We present the results of simultaneous spectroscopic and photometric observations of the cataclysmic variable star (hereafter CVs) V455 Andromedae, belonging to the WZ Sge sub-class, in quiescence. Using the spectroscopic data we computed time-resolved Doppler tomograms of the system demonstrating its behavior at different orbital phases. In the tomograms one can see the periodic brightening of different regions within one orbital cycle. We interpret this brightening as being due to the interaction of four phase-locked shock waves in the disk with a specific internal precessing density wave that develops inside the disk, because of the tidal influence of the secondary star, and this density wave propagates up to the disk's outer regions. When the outer part of the density wave in its precessional motion reaches a shock wave the local density grows, which amplifies the shock (by increasing $\rho V^{2}/2$). This results in an additional energy release in the shock and can be observed as a brightening. Analysis of the tomographic results and the photometric data shows that two main sources contribute to the light curves of the system: the radiation of the "hot line" and the bow-shock gives us two major orbital humps, located approximately at the orbital phases $\phi=0.25$ and $\phi=0.75$; the amplification of the four shock waves may give us up to four "superhumps" shifting over the light curve with the precessional period. These two effects, when overlapping, change the shape of the light curves, shift the hump maxima, and they sometimes produce more than two humps in the light curve. We should emphasize that when saying "superhumps" we imply an effect that is observed in quiescent light curves of WZ Sge stars, as opposed to "classical" superhumps usually observed in outbursts.

V1094 Tau is bright eclipsing binary star with an orbital period close to 9 days containing two stars similar to the Sun. Our aim is to test models of Sun-like stars using precise and accurate mass and radius measurements for both stars in V1094 Tau. We present new spectroscopy of V1094 Tau which we use to estimate the effective temperatures of both stars and to refine their spectroscopic orbits. We also present new, high-quality photometry covering both eclipses of V1094 Tau in the Stroemgren uvby system and in the Johnson V-band. The masses, radii and effective temperatures of the stars in V1094 Tau are found to be M$_A$ = 1.0965 $\pm$ 0.0040 M$_{\odot}$, R$_A$ = 1.4109 $\pm$ 0.0058 R$_{\odot}$, T$_{\rm eff,A}$ = 5850 $\pm$ 100 K, and M$_B$ = 1.0120 $\pm$ 0.0028 M$_{\odot}$, R$_B$ = 1.1063 $\pm$ 0.0066 R$_{\odot}$, T$_{\rm eff,B}$ = 5700 $\pm$ 100 K. An analysis of the times of mid-eclipse and the radial velocity data reveals apsidal motion with a period of 14500 $\pm$ 3700 years. The observed masses, radii and effective temperatures are consistent with stellar models for an age $\approx$ 6 Gyr if the stars are assumed to have a metallicity similar to the Sun. This estimate is in reasonable agreement with our estimate of the metallicity derived using Stroemgren photometry and treating the binary as a single star ([Fe/H] $= -0.09 \pm 0.11$). The rotation velocities of the stars suggest that V1094 Tau is close to the limit at which tidal interactions between the stars force them to rotate pseudo-synchronously with the orbital motion., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures. Aims. We search for transiting circumbinary (CB) planets around eclipsing binaries (EBs). Methods. CB-BLS is a recently-introduced algorithm for the detection of transiting CB planets around EBs.We describe progress in search sensitivity, generality and capability of CB-BLS, and detection tests of CB-BLS on simulated data. We also describe an analytical approach for the determination of CB-BLS detection limits, and a method for the correct detrending of intrinsically-variable stars. Results. We present some blind-tests with simulated planets injected to real CoRoT data. The presented upgrades to CB-BLS allowed it to detect all the blind tests successfully, and these detections were in line with the detection limits analysis. We also correctly detrend bright eclipsing binaries from observations by the TrES planet search, and present some of the first results of applying CB-BLS to multiple real light curves from a wide-field survey. Conclusions. CB-BLS is now mature enough for its application to real data, and the presented processing scheme will serve as the template for our future applications of CB-BLS to data from wide-field surveys such as CoRoT. Being able to put constraints even on non-detection will help to determine the correct frequency of CB planets, contributing to the understanding of planet formation in general. Still, searching for transiting CB planets is still a learning experience, similarly to the state of transiting planets around single stars only a few years ago. The recent rapid progress in this front, coupled with the exquisite quality of space-based photometry, allows to realistically expect that if transiting CB planets exist - then they will soon be found., Comment: A&A accepted. We present photometric observations in B and V as well as spectroscopic observations of the detached, eccentric 6.6-day double-lined eclipsing binary GG Ori, a member of the Orion OB1 association. Absolute dimensions of the components, which are virtually identical, are determined to high accuracy (better than 1% in the masses and better than 2% in the radii) for the purpose of testing various aspects of theoretical modeling. We obtain M(A) = 2.342 +/- 0.016 solar masses and R(A) = 1.852 +/- 0.025 solar radii for the primary, and M(B) = 2.338 +/- 0.017 solar masses and R(B) = 1.830 +/- 0.025 solar radii for the secondary. The effective temperature of both stars is 9950 +/- 200 K, corresponding to a spectral type of B9.5. GG Ori is very close to the ZAMS, and comparison with current stellar evolution models gives ages of 65-82 Myr or 7.7 Myr depending on whether the system is considered to be burning hydrogen on the main sequence or still in the final stages of pre-main sequence contraction. We have detected apsidal motion in the binary at a rate of dw/dt = 0.00061 +/- 0.00025 degrees per cycle, corresponding to an apsidal period of U = 10700 +/- 4500 yr.
