1. Temperature dependence of spin resonance in cobalt substituted NiZnCu ferrites

Abstract

Cobalt substitutions were investigated in Ni0.4Zn0.4Cu0.2Fe2O4 ferrites, initial complex permeability was then measured from 1 MHz to 1 GHz. It appears that cobalt substitution led to a decrease in the permeability and an increase in the \mus\timesfr factor. As well, it gave to the permeability spectrum a sharp resonance character. We also observed a spin reorientation occurring at a temperature depending on the cobalt content. Study of the complex permeability versus temperature highlighted that the most resonant character was obtained at this temperature. This shows that cobalt contribution to second order magnetocrystalline anisotropy plays a leading role at this temperature.

Abstract

The temperature dependence of core loss in cobalt substituted Ni-Zn-Cu ferrites was investigated. Co2+ ions are known to lead to a compensation of the magneto-crystalline anisotropy in Ni-Zn ferrites, at a temperature depending on the cobalt content and the Ni/Zn ratio. We observed similar behaviour in Ni-Zn-Cu and it was found that the core loss goes through a minimum around this magneto-crystalline anisotropy compensation. Moreover, the anisotropy induced by the cobalt allowed a strong decrease of core loss, a ferrite having a core loss of 350 mW/cm3 at 80 ^\circ C was then developed (measured at 1.5 MHz and 25 mT). This result represents an improvement of a factor 4 compared to the state of art Ni-Zn ferrites.

Abstract

To reduce the time-to-market of electric vehicles, fast and accurate energetic simulations are needed. This paper aims to propose a fast computational dynamic model that allows a good compromise between accuracy and computation time while respecting the dynamics of the system. Its accuracy and computation time are evaluated compared to conventional static and dynamic models. The results show that the proposed dynamic model estimates the same energy consumption as the traditional dynamic model for a computation time 85 times faster. The computation time of the static model is four times faster than the proposed model, but the accuracy is reduced.

Abstract

International audience; This paper focuses on bats detection, tagged at low frequency (134.2 kHz) with glasstags (typically : length 15 mm and radius1 mm). The physical link is magnetic coupling. We propose thedesign of a reader antenna based on a multi-coil structure.The goal is to obtain the highest surface of detection, at adistance of 10-15 cm, i.e. defining a so called “volume ofdetection”. The cylindrical volume of the glasstags involves ahigh sensitivity to the magnetic field orientation. As the bats areflying, the tags equivalent surfaces are considered with a randomorientation. Using complementary coils principle enables todetect fruitfully the glasstags in two perpendicular orientationsnamed HM (horizontal mode) and VM (vertical mode). Wepropose the design of a flexible reader antenna structure bymeans of an adhesive copper tape fixed on a cloth. The prototypeis designed after CST simulations and empirical formulaevaluations. Measurements show a good agreement with themodelling and tests of detection are performed with theproposed reader antenna. By comparison with a commercialantenna, the prototype reaches the highest volume of detectionin both HM and VM modes and fulfills the targeted distance ofdetection.

Abstract

International audience; This paper deals with the problem of measurement of the losses in Power GaN chips due to almost impossibility to measure the current under the penalty of adding parasitic inductances incompatible with the switching speeds of these components. For this purpose, this paper investigates the steady-state inverse heat conduction model (IHCM) developed from thermal simulations. The main objective is to derive the power dissipation in a GaN chip mounted on or embedded in a PCB from the surface temperature measured by infrared thermography or thermal sensors. In this problem, the power devices losses are the solutions of the inverse problem of the temperature-to-power mapping. IHCM here is based on simple observations from real PCB structures with GaN chip embedded in PCB substrates. The error of the resultant power map with thermal noises is minimized by Least-Square Optimization, which transforms the direct inverse problem into a constrained optimization problem.

16. A model of ferroelectric behavior based on a complete switching density.

Abstract

In this article, a ferroelectric capacitor is characterized by an experimental Preisach density (PD), determined by first order reversal curves (FORC) method. It is experimentally shown that this density, defined under the usual Preisach assumptions, does not allow a complete model of the ferroelectric behavior. Considering the domain walls phenomenon, an extension of the Preisach assumptions is suggested, leading to the complete switching density (CSD) defined on the whole Preisach plane. It is theoretically shown that the experimental PD determined by the FORC method is an exact image of the CSD truncated outside of the so-called Preisach triangle. It is finally verified that the CSD improves the ferroelectric modeling on a wide range of electric field strength, including the Rayleigh zone. © 2004 American Institute of Physics. Abstract

La demande croissante d'énergie électrique dans les transports terrestre et aérien conduit à utiliser massivement des équipements basés sur l'électronique de puissance. Les progrès sur les semiconducteurs de puissance, technologie au cœur de ces dispositifs, permettent d'accroître fortement leur densité volumique d'énergie avec un excellent rendement. Toutefois, la forte dissémination de ces techniques, la montée en fréquence et en vitesse de commutation des semiconducteurs conduisent à une augmentation importante de la pollution électromagnétique qu'ils produisent. Les phénomènes de compatibilité électromagnétique en électronique de puissance sont traités et illustrés par des cas concrets issus des applications industrielles. Partant du concept de cellule de commutation, les émissions de perturbations électromagnétiques sont expliquées, modélisées, puis l'approche est généralisée pour des systèmes plus complexes. Enfin, les moyens spécifiques de réduction des phénomènes parasites sont exposés, plus particulièrement les aspects liés à l'électronique de puissance, au filtrage et au blindage.

Abstract

Le choix d'une architecture de convertisseur puis la conception d'un prototype démonstrateur, pour répondre à une spécification donnée, reste un exercice difficile dans une jungle topologique et technologique. Le développement d'outils d'aide à la conception est donc un passage obligé pour faciliter la tâche des concepteurs mais aussi pour optimiser véritablement les solutions. La puissance sans cesse croissante des plates-formes logicielles et des ordinateurs personnels offre un potentiel largement suffisant pour atteindre des objectifs ambitieux dans cette assistance à la conception. Cela dit, de nombreux problèmes restent à résoudre et parmi eux, la synthèse de modèles réalistes et utilisables dans l'optimisation d'un système complet n'est pas le moindre. Cette contribution propose une philosophie mixant analyses physiques, formulations empiriques issues de bases de données et caractérisations expérimentales pour construire les modèles des principaux acteurs des étages de puissance que sont les composants actifs et passifs, associés selon les cas à des vecteurs de refroidissements.

International audience; Recent research in micro-manufacturing together with new technologies in bioelectronics can lead to neuroscience applications to explore the properties of neural networks. Micro Electrode Arrays correspond to a well suited tool to either stimulate or record large populations of cultured cells and tissues. Based on existing state-of-the-art MEAs, the paper describes original developments to improve either recording or stimulation of neural networks, focusing on action potential discrimination.

Abstract

This paper deals with multilayer magnetic components for power electronics application and specifically for high frequency switching. New formulations based on nickel-zinc-copper spinel ferrites were developed for high power and high frequency applications. These ferrites can be sintered at low temperature (around 900°C) which makes them compatible with the LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics) technology. Metallic parts of silver or gold can be fully integrated inside the ferrite while guaranteeing the integrity of both the ferrite and the metal. To make inductors or transformers with the required properties, it is mandatory to have nonmagnetic parts between the turns of the winding. Then it is essential to find a dielectric material, which can be co-sintered both with the ferrite and the metal. We will present the solution we found to this problem and we will describe the results we obtained for a multilayer co-sintered transformer. We will see that these new components have good performance compared with the state of the art and are very promising for developing high density switching mode power supplies. Abstract

This paper proposes a converter topology dedicated to the interconnection between low voltage and high voltage networks or power sources. This topology uses the interleaving principle whose advantages are well known at this point. Its originality stems from the implementation of an isolating intercell transformer (ICT) that provides isolation, filtering, and intercell coupling through a single magnetic stage. The first section of this paper presents two ways to build bidirectional multicell converters, based on classic buck (or boost) cells on one hand, and buck-boost cells on the other. From the nonisolated versions of these two families, the synthesis of isolated versions is achieved by introducing classic two-winding coupled-inductors or transformers. A nonbidirectional isolated ICT version derived from the buck-boost family, the multicell ICT flyback converter, has already been studied and tested. Therefore, the second section describes the isolated multicell ICT converter derived from the buck (or boost) family and constitutes the main contribution of this paper. Its very interesting features regarding high step-up ratio requirements are emphasized, particularly by considering some limitations of the ICT flyback converter. Finally, a 10-kW test bench is presented. Abstract

A low-input voltage high-power realization is presented with the aim to demonstrate the feasibility and the interest of topologies using intercell transformer. They constitute a promising option to interleave converter stages, and therefore, can answer to the specifications considered in this paper. These specifications require a galvanic insulation and the chosen topology is the Intercell Transformer (ICT) flyback converter, previously proposed by the authors. In a first part, the operating principle of the ICT flyback converter is recalled. The second part presents briefly the main features of the intercell transformer design, more precisely described in a previous paper. This part includes a discussion about the choice of the cell number. The last part presents the design and the implementation of the complete flyback converter using eight cells. A preliminary work concerns the choice, the design, and the test of each cell elements, mainly the transformer and the primary switching stage. In the end, the experimental results are presented and discussed. They demonstrate the potential of this original topology that needs only one level of magnetic components. Abstract

This paper presents an original design option dedicated to output-filtered pulsewidth modulation inverters used in uninterruptible power systems, embedded networks, or motor drives operating on long cables. It is based on the coupling of interleaved inverter cells by means of intercell transformers (ICTs) and is characterized by very good dynamic behavior on load transients, which is an important issue in such applications. ICT solutions are compared with the classical interleaved solutions using separate inductors. A specific design method is developed to achieve this comparison based on toroidal core shapes. The results obtained with a 600 V, 7.5 kW inverter show the usefulness of ICT-based designs, especially when nanocrystalline magnetic material is used; high specific power and very good dynamic performances are obtained. An analytic formulation dedicated to the design of high-frequency power transformers is presented. This approach is based on the area product, and homothetic core shapes are considered. The temperature increase of the transformer is one of the main input data. Winding losses including the effect of eddy currents are calculated as well as core losses. An original model of magnetic losses valid over a wide frequency range of the common ferrite materials is introduced. The analytic formulation is validated by design examples concerning transformers that have been realized and tested. An original converter composed of interleaved flyback is presented. The cells are interconnected through intercell transformers replacing the standard multi-winding inductors used as insulation and storage magnetic device in the flyback. The combination of the interleaving effects and of the intercell transformer characteristics allows eliminating the mains limitations of the standard flyback due to the low performances of multiwindings inductors. In a first part, the different ways to interleave galvanic insulated converters as forward or flyback are briefly recalled. The second part presents the intercell transformers and shows that they can be used to interconnect interleaved converters cells. In the third and last part, this particular magnetic interconnection is applied to inter- leaved flyback cells and leads to create an "intercell transformer fly-back". Interleaved power converters are now used in many different conversion systems involving various topologies (series or parallel) and related to different fields or loads. This paper deals with interleaved parallel commutation cells using coupling transformers with a possibly high number of cells. The first part of the paper is a reminder of the basics of magnetic couplers addressing monolithic as well as distributed implementations. The limits associated with the conventional supply of such couplers (supply voltages forming a direct polyphase system) are described. In the second part of the paper, an optimized voltage supply improving the performances of the system is introduced. Experimental results obtained on a seven-cells test bench validate the approach.
