Based on the implementing grain security projects and instituting other relevant grain security policies, China has promoted the process of digitalization and intelligence of grain storage and built the world's largest grain Internet of Things, since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. But, the resulting large amount of grain data, mainly based on temperature, can not effectively support decision-making and management on grain storage. Based on the study of the multi-field coupling theory of grain pile ecosystem, our research team further extracted the continuity principle, periodicity principle, and coordination principle of digital supervision of grain reserves, and proposed a series of intelligent strategies such as AID, ABC, 6R, SIN, CAE, O, and U. However, the application of these strategies directly faces the original data, which has some problems such as low efficiency and large error. To apply the intelligent strategies efficiently and correctly, the basic data manual of intelligent analysis of grain condition has been developed, according to the original grain condition data of typical granaries and main grain varieties in different grain storage ecological regions in China. The development of this manual is expected to consolidate the foundation of intelligent analysis of grain situation, which could promote the digital monitoring of grain storage quantity and quality, and realize the transformation from "manual defense" to “technical defense”.

Chemical pesticides play crucial roles in the management of crop diseases and pests. However, excessive and irrational use of pesticides has become a major concern and obstacle to sustainable agriculture. As a result, the quality and security of agricultural products are reduced, and the ecological and environmental integrities are threatened. Recently, environment-friendly pest management measures have been introduced and adopted to manage rice insect pests and reduce the use of insecticides. This paper reviewed the advancements in development and application of non-chemicaltechnologies for insect pest management during rice production in China.

This paper reviews 20-years of research on the management of insect pests of cotton in China since the beginning of the 21st century. Three aspects are covered: population succession, the evolution of resistance in target pests to Bt cotton, and chemical communication between cotton plants, insect pests and natural enemies. Key prevention and control technologies, such as forecasting, the utilization of insect-resistant crops, ecological regulation, physical trapping, chemical attractants, biological control and chemical control, are summarized. The innovative application of green control technology systems is discussed focusing on two major pests, the cotton bollworm and mirid bugs. Finally, the outlook for future research on the management of insect pests of cotton is discussed based on the development of the layout of cotton plantations in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rice is the most important food crop in China and is of great significance for China's food security. This paper reviews the main achievements in rice pest management since the beginning of the 21st Century, from determining the population dynamics of major rice pests in China and the main factors influencing population growth and the development of non-chemical control technologies and emergency control technologies for rice pests over the past 20 years. Future prospects for rice pest management, such as improving prediction and forecasting, accelerating the cultivation and application of resistant varieties, strengthening the development, integration and innovation of green pest management technologies, improving the ability and service level of professional service organizations and strengthening policy support, are also discussed. Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is a key pest in cotton crops, notably owing to its increasing resistance to commonly used pesticides. Such resistance prompts for the development of integrated pest management (IPM) programs that include novel pesticides being effective against the aphid. In the present study, we assessed lethal and sublethal effects of cycloxaprid, a novel chiral neonicotinoid pesticide developed in China, on A. gossypii. The lethal concentration at 50% (LC50) value of cycloxaprid on A. gossypii was estimated, using the dipping method, at 7.73 mg/L. The impact of a sublethal concentration (LC10) and a lethal concentration (LC40) of cycloxaprid on A. gossypii population growth and feeding behavior (using electrical penetration graph technique [EPG]), and its transgenerational effect were further assessed. Adult longevity and fecundity significantly decreased after exposure to LC40 or LC10 of cycloxaprid. Cycloxaprid with sublethal concentrations (especially LC40) had negative effects on phloem ingestion by A. gossypii. Additionally, the offspring of the adults exposed to LC40 of cycloxaprid had shorter nymphal development duration and adult longevity than the control, and those from LC10 and LC40 treatments had lower adult fecundity and net productive rate. We demonstrated that cycloxaprid is a pesticide showing both lethal and sublethal activities, and transgenerational effects on A. gossypii; it may be useful for implementation in IPM programs against this aphid pest.
