Climate change is a major concern for the near future and for livestock breeding. Cattle breeding, due to its greenhouse gas emissions, is one of the most implicated industries. Consequently, the main future goals are to breed animals resilient to climate change, with the aim of lowering the livestock impact on the environment and selecting animals that will be able to resist different, unsuitable, and changing climates. The aim of this literature review is to compare the most recent studies on the response and adaptation of beef cattle breeds to extreme environments, in terms of genes and pathways involved. Beef breeding is just starting to implement genomics in its selection plans, and shedding light on the genomic responses to extreme climates could speed up and simplify the adaptation of these breeds to climate change. This review discusses the genes involved in climatic stress responses, including those related to extremely cold climates, in beef and dual‐purpose cattle breeds. Genes were associated with productive traits, coat and skin structure and development, thermotolerance, cellular physiology and DNA repair mechanisms, immune system, and fertility traits. The knowledge of genes and pathways involved in climate resilience should be taken into consideration for further selection in beef cattle breeding and could promote the valorization of local breeds adapted to extreme environmental conditions. The use of local or resilient breeds could enhance the environmental and social sustainability, animal welfare, and production, compared with the introduction of cosmopolitan breeds with uncertain adaptation in uncontrolled environmental areas. China's unsustainable agricultural production activities have caused severe agricultural non-point source pollution (ANPSP), particularly nitrogen source pollution (NSP), which impacts farmland ecological environments. Understanding NSP is important for managing ANPSP and improving environmental water quality. Thus, inventory analysis methods were used to assess county-level total nitrogen (TN) loads in large-scale agricultural areas, analyze spatial and temporal variations in TN loads, examine the major sources of TN loads and identify the driving factors of DITN using Pearson correlation and random forest (RF) methods. The results showed that (1) TN loads and discharge intensity decreased by 4.59% and 12.7%, respectively, increasing and then decreasing via market regulations, policy incentives, and policy constraints. The eastern and northern Henan Province plain areas were highly discharged. (2) The major pollution sources varied, with the total contributions of mineral fertilizers and livestock and poultry breeding to TN being 73.53% and 81.78%, respectively. Farmland solid waste contributed minimally but increased yearly from 10.84 to 19.74%. (3) The discharge intensity of TN was highly significantly negatively correlated with the urbanization rate, economic development and slope; neither was significantly correlated with arable land. The RF results showed that total mineral fertilizer consumption and total livestock and poultry production were the major factors controlling the NSP in Henan Province. China's agricultural policies have slightly reduced pollutant discharge intensities, but the situation remains grim. This study provides a scientific basis for the development of differentiated TN control measures in Henan Province, which is important for improving pollution prevention and control capabilities. Transformation of agricultural land into urban areas causes negative impacts on the livelihood of people in rural areas and affects their overall condition. To maintain or increase the opportunities for living and well-being during any disturbance resulting from a development project is called livelihood resilience. This research presents a comprehensive assessment of the effects of urban development-induced displacement and resettlement on the livelihood resilience of rural households. The sustainable livelihood approach (SLA), proposed by the Department for International Development (DFID), has been utilized to achieve these objectives. This research designed a measurement model through a systematic selection of indicators under five livelihood assets. The measurement model was verified by interviewing 348 households and applying a confirmatory factor analysis. Then, through a pairwise comparison of three scenarios of households (already displaced, economically displaced, and to-be-displaced) applying Mann–Whitney U-tests, the study evaluated the livelihood resilience of the households of Atal Nagar-Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India. The findings show variability in physical assets across the scenarios, while there is no significant difference in social assets. The economic assets are significantly different for economically displaced and to-be-displaced households. Moreover, the result also shows that economically displaced households suffer the most, while the already displaced households get accustomed to the situation with time. The research reveals that rather than only providing monetary compensation, intensifying agricultural or farming activities, along with providing various supports for maintaining social and human assets, can better ensure the sustainable development of affected people and the efficacy of urban development projects. Moreover, it highlights the critical role of well-structured resettlement programs in mitigating negative impacts and bolstering livelihood resilience. With a novel methodological approach and the obtained results, this research provides valuable insights for policymakers and urban planners that can help craft urban development strategies that prioritize the welfare of the affected people from rural areas and improve their livelihood resilience. Practical Applications: Urban development, through the transformation of agricultural land, negatively impacts the lives and livelihoods of the people in rural areas. This research endeavors to mitigate the risks by strengthening the livelihood resilience of the households in rural areas impacted by a new city/town development. This research identified four livelihood assets, namely, physical, social, economic, and human, to understand the nature of livelihood resilience. The research reveals that rather than only providing monetary compensation, intensification of agricultural or farming activities, livestock breeding, and accessibility of irrigation facilities are more crucial for people in rural areas. Moreover, the physical infrastructure, although improved after resettlement, may not ensure long-term resilience for displacees and resettlers due to the loss of regular income and employment. In addition, providing necessary information related to displacement and resettlement and various government schemes and assessing and planning by local government, institutions to enhance communication with neighbors and friends are important for making the deprived people resilient. This study seeks a comprehensive exploration of genome-wide selective processes impacting morphometric traits across diverse cattle breeds, utilizing an array of statistical methods. Morphometric traits, encompassing both qualitative and quantitative variables, play a pivotal role in characterizing and selecting livestock breeds based on their external appearance, size, and physical attributes. While qualitative traits, such as color, horn structure, and coat type, contribute to adaptive features and breed identification, quantitative traits like body weight and conformation measurements bear a closer correlation with production characteristics. This study employs advanced genotyping technologies, including the Illumina BovineSNP50 Bead Chip and next-generation sequencing methods like Reduced Representation sequencing, to identify genomic signatures associated with these traits. We applied four intra-population methods to find evidence of selection, such as Tajima's D, CLR, iHS, and ROH. We found a total of 40 genes under the selection signature, that were associated with morphometric traits in five cattle breeds (Kankrej, Tharparkar, Nelore, Sahiwal, and Gir). Crucial genes such as ADIPDQ, DPP6, INSIG1, SLC35D2 in Kankrej, LPL, ATP6V1B2, CDC14B in Tharparkar, HPSE2, PLAG1 in Nelore, PCSK1, PRKD1 in Sahiwal, and GNAQ, HPCAL1 in Gir were identified in our study. This approach provides valuable insights into the genetic basis of variations in body weight and conformation traits, facilitating informed selection processes and offering a deeper understanding of the evolutionary and domestication processes in diverse cattle breeds. Aneuploidy is a genetic condition characterized by the loss or gain of one or more chromosomes. Aneuploidy affecting the sex chromosomes can lead to infertility in otherwise externally phenotypically normal cattle. Early identification of cattle with sex chromosomal aneuploidy is important to minimize the costs associated with rearing infertile cattle and futile breeding attempts. As most livestock breeding programs routinely genotype their breeding populations using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) arrays, this study aimed to assess the feasibility of integrating an aneuploidy screening tool into the existing pipelines that handle dense SNP genotype data. A further objective was to estimate the prevalence of sex chromosome aneuploidy in a population of 146,431 juvenile cattle using available genotype intensity data. Three genotype intensity statistics were used: the LogR Ratio (LRR), R‐value (the sum of X and Y SNP probe intensities), and B‐allele frequency (BAF) measurements. Within the female‐verified population of 124,958 individuals, the estimated prevalence rate was 0.0048% for XO, 0.0350% for XXX, and 0.0004% for XXY. The prevalence of XXY in the male‐verified population was 0.0870% (i.e., 18 out of 20,670 males). Cytogenetic testing was used to verify 2 of the XXX females who were still alive. The proposed approach can be readily integrated into existing genomic pipelines, serving as an efficient, large‐scale screening tool for aneuploidy. Agricultural non-point source pollution (ANP) had become an important source of water pollution, which seriously restricted the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. As the primary agricultural production base in the region of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Hebei had serious ANP. In order to clarify the current status of ANP in Hebei and figure out the main pollution source and areas, ANP load of Hebei from 2000 to 2021 were evaluated by the export coefficient modeling (ECM) and spatial-temporal characteristics were carried out using geographic information system (GIS). In addition, ANP severity and emission characteristics of Hebei in 2021 were evaluated. The results showed that the environmental impact of ANP in southwest area was obviously more serious than that in northeast area of Hebei. Especially, ANP emissions in Hebei showed significant decreasing inflection points in 2007 and 2017, respectively, reaching a minimum by 2021. The TN and TP emissions of ANP in Hebei were 315,026.1 t and 50,323.76 t in 2021, respectively. The contribution of agricultural land, livestock and poultry breeding and rural life to TN and TP emissions were 37%, 34%, 29% and 20%, 61% and 18%, respectively. The ANP pollution mainly came from livestock and poultry breeding in Hebei Province. Natural antibodies are used to compare immune systems across taxa, to study wildlife disease ecology, and as selection markers in livestock breeding. These immunoglobulins are present prior to immune stimulation. They are described as having low antigen specificity or polyreactive binding and are measured by binding to self-antigens or novel exogenous proteins. Most studies use only one or two antigens to measure natural antibodies and ignore potential effects of antigen specificity in analyses. It remains unclear how different antigen-specific natural antibodies are related or how diversity among natural antibodies may affect analyses of these immunoglobulins. Using genetically distinct lines of chickens as a model system, we tested the hypotheses that (1) antigen-specific natural antibodies are independent of each other and (2) antigen specificity affects the comparison of natural antibodies among animals. We used blood cell agglutination and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays to measure levels of natural antibodies binding to four antigens: (i) rabbit erythrocytes, (ii) keyhole limpet hemocyanin, (iii) phytohemagglutinin, or (iv) ovalbumin. We observed that levels of antigen specific natural antibodies were not correlated. There were significant differences in levels of natural antibodies among lines of chickens, indicating genetic variation for natural antibody production. However, line distinctions were not consistent among antigen specific natural antibodies. These data show that natural antibodies are a pool of relatively distinct immunoglobulins, and that antigen specificity may affect interpretation of natural antibody function and comparative immunology. Given the current emphasis on the analysis of genome-wide association studies and metabolome genome-wide association studies as a focal point of scientific research, our aim in publishing this review is to provide a resource for fellow scientists to efficiently grasp the advancements within our domain. In recent years, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and metabolome genome-wide association studies (mGWAS) have emerged as crucial methods for investigating complex traits in animals and plants. These have played pivotal roles in research on livestock and poultry breeding, facilitating a deeper understanding of genetic diversity, the relationship between genes, and genetic bases in livestock and poultry. This article provides a review of the applications of GWAS and mGWAS in animal genetic breeding, aiming to offer reference and inspiration for relevant researchers, promote innovation in animal genetic improvement and breeding methods, and contribute to the sustainable development of animal husbandry. The Yak (Bos grunniens) is a special breed of livestock predominantly distributed in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau of China. Intramuscular fat (IMF) content in beef cattle is a vital indicator of meat quality. In this study, RNA-Seq and Protein-Seq were respectively employed to sequence the transcriptome and proteome of the longissimus dorsi (LD) tissue from 4-year-old yaks with significant differences in IMF content under the same fattening conditions. Five overlapping genes (MYL3, ACADS, L2HGDH, IGFN1, and ENSBGRG00000000-926) were screened using combined analysis. Functional verification tests demonstrated that the key gene ACADS inhibited yak intramuscular preadipocyte (YIMA) differentiation and proliferation, promoted mitochondrial biogenesis gene expression, and increased the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). Furthermore, co-transfection experiments further demonstrated that interfering with ACADS reversed the effect of PPARα agonists in promoting lipid differentiation. In conclusion, ACADS potentially inhibits lipid deposition in YIAMs by regulating the PPARα signalling pathway. Introduction: Indigenous chickens are very important to households for income and protein. However, their performance is usually poor, especially under small-scale farmer management, despite their potential to perform better. The performance of these chickens can be improved by selective breeding. However, for this to be a success, there is a need to understand the phenotypic and production characteristics of these chickens fully. Hence, this study aimed to characterize the phenotypes of these chickens and their production system among small-scale farmers. Method: A structured questionnaire was administered to 177 small-scale farmers. A total of 538 chickens whose mean weight was 1.66 kg were individually phenotyped in Luapula, Muchinga, and Northern provinces of Zambia. Results: Ownership of the indigenous chickens was dominated by females (65.37%), with most (64.31%) having attained primary education. Most housed their chickens in family houses (42.03%). All the farmers let their chickens scavenge for their feed, with 45.58% of them providing basic supplementation. Most (84.10%) farmers bought their breed stock from within their community and had a mean flock size of 12.5 chickens/household, which they mostly (78.09%) kept as free-range. The majority (77.39%) practiced culling, with low productivity being the most common reason for culling (84.45%). Only 59.01% of farmers practiced selective breeding, while 86.22% practiced uncontrolled mating. The age at first mating for cocks and hens was 6.8 months and 6.34 months, respectively, with 6.73 months being the age at first egg. It takes 15.43 days to reach a mean clutch size of 13 eggs. The hatchability and mortality at 8 weeks were 83.44% and 67.57%, respectively. All chickens were sold as live chickens, and the majority (51.59%) of the farmers sold their chickens within the community at 7.23 months. Diseases and predators were the most common challenges affecting farmers in the study area. Consultations with veterinarians, vaccinations, and deworming were uncommon while treating sick chickens mostly using ethnoveterinary medicines was common. The most common qualitative traits were brown (27.88%) and mixed (26.77%) plumage color, white skins (91.45%) and shanks (48.70%), single comb type (91.08%), red earlobe (55.76%), and orange eyes (78.07%). All linear body measurements positively and significantly correlated with the body weight averaging 1.66kgs, an indicator that selection for any of them would result in a corresponding increase in body weight. Principal Component Analysis extracted two components with 69.38% of the total variation. Introduction: Claw lesions significantly contribute to lameness, greatly affecting sow welfare. This study investigated different factors that would impact the severity of claw lesions in the sows of Brazilian commercial herds. Methods: A total of 129 herds (n = 12,364 sows) were included in the study. Herds were in the Midwest, Southeast, or South regions of Brazil. Inventory sizes were stratified into 250-810 sows, 811-1,300 sows, 1,301-3,000 sows, and 3,001-10,000 sows. Herds belonged to Cooperative (Coop), Integrator, or Independent structures. The herd management was conducted either maintaining breeds from stock on-site (internal), or through purchase of commercially available genetics (external). Herds adopted either individual crates or group housing during gestation. Within each farm, one randomly selected group of sows was scored by the same evaluator (two independent experts evaluated a total of 129 herds) from 0 (none) to 3 (severe) for heel overgrowth and erosion (HOE), heel-sole crack (HSC), separation along the white line (WL), horizontal (CHW) and vertical (CVW) wall cracks, and overgrown toes (T), or dewclaws (DC) in the hind legs after parturition. The study assessed differences and similarities between herds using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering (HAC) analysis. The effects of factors (i.e., production structure, management, housing during gestation, and region) were assessed using the partial least squares method (PLS). Results and discussion: Heel overgrowth and erosion had the highest prevalence, followed by WL and CHW, while the lowest scores were observed for T DC, and CVW. Herds were grouped in three clusters (i.e., Cl, C2, and C3). Heel overgrowth and erosion, HSC, WL, CHW, CVW, and T were decreased by 17, 25, 11, 25, 21, and 17%, respectively, in C3 compared to CI and 2 combined. Independent structure increased the L-lndex in all three clusters. Furthermore, individual housing increased the L-lndex regardless of the cluster. The results suggest that shifting toward larger, more technologically advanced herds could potentially benefit claw health. Additionally, adopting group gestation housing appears to mitigate the adverse effects on claw health, although further validation is necessary, as Brazil has only recently transitioned from individual housing practices. Indigenous food sovereignty (IFS) is pivotal in enhancing food security and nutritional well-being and preserving governance systems and cultural practices within indigenous communities. Despite its significance, the literature on food sovereignty practices within Indian tribal communities and strategies for bolstering them remains limited. The present study draws upon primary data collected from 97 households in Manipur, Northeast India to address this gap. This study employs a mixedmethods research approach and systematically investigates the intricate dynamics of shifting cultivation (SC), agrobiodiversity and their collective contributions to IFS. Empirical findings underscore that SC provides culturally relevant food resources, thereby amplifying dietary diversity and contributing significantly to IFS. The indigenous SC system in the present study site encompasses 32 crop species and 4 local livestock breeds, featuring numerous landraces that ensure nutritional security and preserve food culture. Integrating wild edible plants from forests and fallow lands supplements the traditional food basket, reinforcing indigenous food culture and promoting biodiversity conservation. This study emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between SC-based agrobiodiversity and dietary diversity and highlights their critical role in fortifying IFS resilience, particularly in the context of climate change. The water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) is susceptible to bovine tuberculosis (TB), which receives increased attention in areas where buffalo breeding is prevalent, such as in Southern Italy, especially in the Campania region, where 70% of the buffalo stock is bred. Since 2012, TB testing in buffalo herds has been conducted using the Single Intradermal Test (SIT), with the Comparative Intradermal test (CIT) used in cases of inconclusive results. From 2012 to 2016, the interferongamma (IFN-γ) test was occasionally employed experimentally in herds with TB outbreaks to expedite eradication efforts. A local TB eradication program was implemented in officially TB-free buffalo herds between 2017 and 2019. This program involves initial screening with SIT, followed by confirmatory tests, including CIT and IFN-γ, for positive reactions. Since June 2019, the IFN-γ test has replaced the CIT in officially TB-free herds upon positive SIT reactions. Additionally, in suspected and confirmed TB-outbreak herds, the IFN-γ test was used at the discretion of the competent authority. Between 2017 and 2019, approximately 295,000 buffaloes in Campania were screened annually with in vivo tests provided by TB eradication programs. During this period, 32,040 animals from 855 herds were tested using the IFN-γ test and 4,895 tested positive. Since 2020, the use of IFN-γ testing has increased, and has become a prerequisite for the acquisition of TB-free status and is being systematically applied for TB outbreak-extinction procedures. The test was performed in all breeding buffaloes in cases of doubtful SIT results in TB-free herds and when TB lesions are detected at slaughter in animals from TB-free herds. This combined approach helped detect more TB outbreaks, and thereby led to a reduction in the TB prevalence and incidence rates. By 2022, the prevalence had decreased to 1.56%, and the incidence had decreased to 0.73%, after the increased use of the IFN-γ test. This study highlights the effectiveness of implemented strategies in reducing TB in this region. Overall, the data demonstrate the successful impact of TB eradication measures and surveillance activities in reducing bubaline TB prevalence and incidence in the Campania region. The excessive use of antibiotics, disinfectants, and drugs in livestock and poultry breeding has resulted in a rise in the presence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and ARGs have been widely found in animal feces, farm wastewater, and farm air. ARGs can not only spread across media through adsorption and migration, but also transfer resistance across bacterial genera through horizontal gene transfer. Livestock breeding has become a fixed and unavoidable source of ARGs in the environment. Existing technologies for controlling ARGs, such as composting, disinfection, and sewage treatment, are not efficient in removing ARB and ARGs from waste. Furthermore, the remaining ARGs still possess a strong capacity for dissemination. At present, antibiotics used in animal husbandry are difficult to replace in a short period of time. The growth and potential risks of resistance genes in livestock and poultry breeding sources in the receiving environment are not yet clear. In this paper, we summarize the current situation of ARGs in the livestock and poultry breeding environment. We also explain the key environmental processes, main influencing factors, and corresponding ecological risks associated with ARGs in this environment. The advantages and disadvantages of current technologies for the removal of ARGs are primarily discussed. There is a particular emphasis on clarifying the spatiotemporal evolution patterns and environmental process mechanisms of ARGs, as well as highlighting the importance and urgency of developing efficient pollution control technologies. Climate change due to natural human activity is a significant global phenomenon affecting the sustainability of most countries' livestock industries. Climate change factors such as ambient temperature, relative humidity, direct and indirect sun radiation, and wind have significant consequences on feed, water, pasture availability, and the re-emergence of diseases in livestock. All these variables have a considerable impact on livestock production and welfare. However, animals' ability to respond and adapt to changes in climate differs within species and breeds. Comparatively, small ruminants are more adaptive to the adverse effects of climate change than large ruminants in terms of reproduction performance, survival, production yield, and resistance to re-emerging diseases. This is mainly due to their morphological features against harsh climate effects. Tropical breeds are more adaptive to the adverse effects of climate change than small temperate ruminants. However, the difference in morphological characteristics towards adaptation to the impact of climate change will guide the development of suitable policies on the selection of breeding stock suitable for different regions in the world. The choice of breeds based on morphological features and traits is an essential strategy in mitigating and minimizing the effects of climate change on small ruminants' production and welfare. Simple Summary: Skeletal muscle growth and development are closely related to the growth performance of livestock and poultry, and miRNAs are involved in skeletal muscle growth and development by negatively regulating target genes. In this study, the Gannan yak and the Tianzhu white yak which have large differences in production performance were used as research subjects. The difference of muscle fibers was analyzed by fiber staining. A total of 254 differentially expressed (DE) miRNAs were screened by transcriptome sequencing. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that the target genes were significantly enriched in muscle growth-related terms and pathways. By constructing a DE miRNA- DE mRNA interaction network, 18 key miRNAs related to muscle growth and development such as miR-3968-z, miR-2478-z, novel-m0143-3p, novel-m0024-3p, novel-m0128-5p, and novel-m0026-3p were screened. These results help us to explore the key influencing factors of skeletal muscle development in different breeds of yaks, and lay a foundation for further research on the molecular regulatory mechanisms of muscle growth and development. The Gannan yak, a superior livestock breed found on the Tibetan Plateau, exhibits significantly enhanced body size, weight, and growth performance in comparison to the Tianzhu white yak. MiRNAs play a pivotal role in regulating muscle growth by negatively modulating target genes. In this study, we found the average diameter, area, and length of myofibers in Gannan yaks were significantly higher than those of Tianzhu white yaks. Further, we focused on analyzing the longissimus dorsi muscle from both Gannan yaks and Tianzhu white yaks through transcriptome sequencing to identify differentially expressed (DE)miRNAs that influence skeletal muscle development. A total of 254 DE miRNAs were identified, of which 126 miRNAs were up-regulated and 128 miRNAs were down-regulated. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the target genes of these DE miRNAs were significantly enriched in signaling pathways associated with muscle growth and development. By constructing a DE miRNA- DE mRNA interaction network, we screened 18 key miRNAs, and notably, four of the candidates (novel-m0143-3p, novel-m0024-3p, novel-m0128-5p, and novel-m0026-3p) targeted six genes associated with muscle growth and development (DDIT4, ADAMTS1, CRY2, AKIRIN2, SIX1, and FOXO1). Abstract—The current stage of genetic certification of horses of cultural and local breeds based on microsatellite analysis makes it possible to quite effectively carry out identification and genetic examination of the origin of breeding animals, as well as solve the problem of assessing and preserving genetic resources. With a reduction in the number of breeding stock to 200–300 mares observed in a number of breeds, the threat of a decrease in the genetic diversity of populations and the accumulation of genetic load increases, which necessitates the need to study and monitor the genetic structure of horse breeds. In this regard, our comparative genetic analysis of polymorphism of 17 microsatellite loci in 20 541 horses of 29 cultural and local breeds allows us to certify the basic part of the genetic resources of the horse breeding of the Russian Federation. including riding, trotter, draft, and local breeds. During the genetic population analysis of the studied breeds, basic parameters were assessed: the total number of allele variants (Na), the effective number of alleles (Ae), the average number of alleles per locus (MNA), the level of observed (Ho) and expected heterozygosity (He), as well as the coefficient of intrapopulation inbreeding Fis. Phylogenetic relationships of breeds were assessed using the R and R Studio software packages. Among horse breeds of different specializations, the highest values of all indicators of genetic diversity (Ae, Ho, He, and Na) were determined in aboriginal populations. In the allele pool of local horse breeds, there were rare alleles ASB2T, HMS7S, HMS6J, HMS6H, HMS2T, HMS1O, HTG7L, HTG6L, HTG6H, VHL20S, ASB17Z, ASB17X, ASB17U, LEX3S, LEX3R, and CA425E, which were absent in horses of stud breeds. Among the riding horse breeds created in Russia, the Budennovskaya, Donskaya, and Kabardian horse breeds stood out due to the presence of rare alleles. Alleles ASB2G, ASB2F, HMS2F, HTG7Q, and ASB23O were found in trotter horses, which were not identified in the genetic structure of other breeds. The phylogenetic analysis showed the division of horse breeds into two clear subclusters, the first of which included only stud breeds. The second cluster united all the native breeds, as well as the Orlov Trotter and a group of draft breeds, which were used for many years as improvers of the local horse population. The analysis of the genetic structure of domestic horse breeds revealed a fairly high reserve of diversity even in small populations, which is an indispensable condition for successful selection in horse breeding. The meat of local livestock breeds often has unique qualities and flavors. In this study, three Shanghai native pig breeds (MSZ, SWT, and SHB) exhibited better meat quality traits than globalized commercial pig breeds (DLY). Subsequently, metabolomic and lipidomic differences in the longissimus dorsi (L) and gluteus (T) muscles of the Shanghai native pig breeds and DLY pig breed were compared using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS). The results demonstrated that the metabolites mainly consisted of (28.16%) lipids and lipid-like molecules, and (25.87%) organic acids and their derivatives were the two most dominant groups. Hundreds of differential expression metabolites were identified in every compared group, respectively. One-way ANOVA was applied to test the significance between multiple groups. Among the 20 most abundant differential metabolites, L-carnitine was significantly different in the muscles of the four pig breeds (p-value = 7.322 × 10−11). It was significantly higher in the L and T muscles of the two indigenous black pig breeds (MSZ and SWT) than in the DLY pigs (p-value < 0.001). Similarly, lipidomic analysis revealed the PA (18:0/18:2) was significantly more abundant in the muscle of these two black breeds than that in the DLY breed (p-value < 0.001). These specific metabolites and lipids might influence the meat quality and taste properties and lead to customer preferences. Pastoral communities in Ethiopia's Bale Zone face a constant threat: drought. The Bale lowlands are Particularly vulnerable due to unpredictable rainfall patterns. A 4-year drought cycle had gripped the region, as reported by the pastoralists themselves. Rising temperatures and declining rainfall painted a concerning picture, leading to a cascade of problems: crop failures, food insecurity, outbreaks of diseases, and increased child school dropout rates. This in-depth study aimed to shed light on the impact of drought on these communities and their remarkable capacity to adapt. By bridging the knowledge gap on drought's influence and local coping mechanisms, the study hoped to inform future interventions. The objectives were to identify the impact of drought on Bale's pastoral communities and to identify the coping mechanisms employed by these communities. The study utilized a mixed-methods approach to capture both qualitative and quantitative data. Data collection techniques included: Engaging with knowledgeable community leaders provided valuable insights into historical trends, community perceptions, and local decision-making processes, Facilitating group discussions allowed community members to share their experiences, concerns, and coping mechanisms in a collaborative setting and administering standardized surveys to a representative sample of households allowed for the quantification of drought's impact and the prevalence of various adaptation strategies. The Results shows all study locations experienced drought for four consecutive years (100%), Pastoralists reported rising temperatures and declining rainfall. The drought resulted in, Crop failures, Food insecurity, Livestock deaths, increased human and livestock diseases increased child school dropout rates. The study concluded that despite the challenges, the study revealed a heartening story of resilience. Bale's pastoral communities have not succumbed to despair. Instead, they have developed a multifaceted approach to cope with drought, including: Utilizing existing water sources and creating communal grazing areas for better water conservation, Splitting herds to reduce grazing pressure, implementing early morning grazing to capitalize on dew, diversifying livestock breeds, and strategically destocking herds before droughts to ensure long-term herd sustainability, Diversifying income through trade, transportation services, and petty trade to reduce dependence on livestock production during droughts. Leveraging the enduring strength of traditional social safety nets ("hirpa," "dare," and "hameessa") for crucial support and assistance during hardships. The study underscores the importance of supporting these existing strategies. Policymakers and NGOs can play a vital role by strengthening social safety nets, promoting the adoption of droughtresistant agricultural practices, investing in research on improved water management techniques and drought-resistant crop varieties. In recent years, the poultry breeding industry has been converted into a large-scale, intensive, and intelligent production mode. The Internet of Things (IoT) is under rapid development, which promotes the development of precision livestock farming. In this study, we developed an intelligent service platform for a facility environment based on the IoT structure, utilizing the capabilities of Platform as a Service (PaaS). The platform consists of four layers, including an information perception layer, network layer, management service layer, and application layer. By using the cloud service model with a distributed network architecture, asynchronous data transmission, and a distributed file system, the platform can centrally manage multiple farm's data. The intelligent service platform includes the following functions: displaying environmental data, water and electricity consumption, data analysis, and managing production data. Over a 500-day trial period in a live poultry house, the platform demonstrated high data integrity (>87%) and resilience against network disruptions and power outages. The data validity of each environmental element exceeded 94%, among which the validity of the temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide concentration exceeded 99%. The overall accuracy of the dataset remained relatively high, providing a robust data foundation for further research. Key features included audio analysis, environmental monitoring, and production data management. The platform's operational status was efficiently communicated via data statistics and email alerts, facilitating timely system recovery. The demonstrated modules included sound recognition, psychrometric charts for visual alerts, and financial analysis tools, offering versatile solutions for integrating PLF models and advanced analytics. Simple Summary: Assisted reproductive technology including in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes, in vitro fertilization (IVF), and in vitro culture (IVC) of embryos is widely used both for humans and animals. In animal science and veterinary medicine, it is particularly important for livestock breeding. Although numerous efforts have been made, the development rates obtained with these techniques are still limited, especially in cattle. Vitamin C is a key nutrient that has multiple functions. To procure high-quality bovine oocytes, the effects of vitamin C on the IVM of bovine oocytes and embryo development at an early stage were investigated. We found that vitamin C supplementation at a tuned concentration improved bovine oocyte maturation and its combination in the media of IVM and IVC can potentially change the quality of bovine embryos. To obtain high-quality bovine oocytes, the effects of vitamin C (VC) on the IVM of bovine oocytes and early embryo development were investigated. The results showed the following. (1) The IVM medium containing 50 µg/mL VC improved the oocyte maturation rate but did not affect the parthenogenetic embryo development. (2) The IVC medium containing 20 µg/mL VC improved the cleavage rate of the IVF embryos and enhanced the mRNA transcriptions of pluripotency gene Oct4, Sox2, Cdx2, and Nanog in the blastocysts but had no effects on the blastocyst rate. (3) Combining supplementation of 50 µg/mL VC in IVM medium + 20 µg/mL VC in IVC medium (named as VC 50/20, similar hereinafter) elevated the cleavage rate of IVF embryos and enhanced the mRNA expressions of Oct4, Sox2, Cdx2, and Nanog in the blastocysts. (4) Combination of VC 0/20 and VC 50/20 enhanced the transcription of anti-apoptotic gene Bcl-2 and VC 50/0 weakened the transcription of pro-apoptotic gene Bax, while VC 0/40 and VC 0/60 increased Bax expression and diminished the Bcl-2/Bax ratio in blastocysts. Together, employing 50 µg/mL VC improves the IVM of bovine oocytes and combination of VC 50/20 potentially changes bovine embryo quality by enhancing the expressions of the pluripotency genes and regulating the expressions of apoptosis-related genes. Although evidence is sporadic it is becoming clear that haymaking and hay meadow management were likely indispensable elements of practices related to animal husbandry during the Roman period. As large towns begin to emerge, success in breeding large livestock such as cattle and horses would have required good quality fodder. Yet, how we distinguish fodder or other animal associated plant remains in the archaeological record can be problematic for many reasons. This paper explores this issue through the context of Roman Mursa, located in modern day Osijek, Croatia. Two pits dating to c. AD133, contained relatively large quantities of grassland and wet ground species, such as Trifolium/Melilotus sp. Prunella vulgaris and the grasses Poa sp. and Phleum sp., as well as chaff and other remains, such as dung, eggshells, and fish scales. By examining the proportion of species grouped into habitat types, we see that the composition of sample SU391 is indictive of hay meadows and could indicate nearby animal stabling in the centre of the early Roman colony. Introduction: Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (APP) is a serious pathogen that affects the development of livestock breeding. Due to excessive use of antimicrobial drugs, many multidrug-resistant bacteria have emerged and spread, which have threatened the livestock industry. Therefore, we established a peristaltic pump infection model (PPIM) to evaluate the susceptibility change and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) integration of tulathromycin against APP during the mutant selection window (MSW) for preventing the emergence of mutant-resistant bacteria. Methods: The 99% minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC99) and mutant prevention concentration (MPC) of tulathromycin against APP were measured using the agar-plate method. After the model of dynamic infection had been established based on tulathromycin data in lungs, different dosages were administered to make the drug concentrations located in different parts of the MSW. The population and sensitivity of APP were monitored. Tulathromycin concentrations were measured by high-performance liquid chromatographytandem mass spectrometry. Finally, a sigmoid Emax model was used to analyze the relationships between PK/PD parameters and antibacterial effects. Results and discussion: The values of MIC, MIC99, and MPC of tulathromycin against APP were 2, 1.4, and 44.8 µg/mL, respectively. The PPIM was stable. An elimination effect without regrowth was observed at 5.6 to 44.8 µg/mL (-4.48 to -7.05 Log10 CFU/mL, respectively). The MIC of APP increased 32-fold at 8 MIC99. AUC168 h/MIC99 had the best fit with the antibacterial effect (R2 = 0.9867). The AUC168 h/MIC99 required to achieve bacteriostatic, bactericidal, and clearance effects were 1.80, 87.42, and 198 h, respectively. In livestock breeding, single nucleotide polymorphism arrays have become a cornerstone of modern livestock breeding. SNP arrays facilitate the identification of genetic markers linked to economically important traits and provide a powerful tool for predicting breeding values. However, conventional breeding programs often overlook additional genomic features contained in the SNP array data that can provide valuable insights into the genetic diversity, copy number variation, inbreeding levels and potential challenges in breeding lines. Here we present genomeprofile, a tool using SNP array‐based genomic data, offering a comprehensive profile of breeding animals including the identification of copy number variants and runs of homozygosity, and screening for aneuploidy. By integrating these features into the breeding landscape, genomeprofile enables a more comprehensive picture of genomic variation, ultimately enhancing precision breeding strategies. To illustrate the practicality and efficacy of genomeprofile, we applied the tool to a dataset of four pig breeding lines. The genomeprofile tool is a user‐friendly tool that processes genotype data in finalreport or plink ped format efficiently into useful output. The output contains copy number variations, runs of homozygosity, selection signatures, aneuploidy and inbreeding per individual and across populations. Simple Summary: The yak (Bos grunniens) is a unique breed in the pastoral areas of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. It has the ability to adapt to the extremely low oxygen environment in the plateau and is one of the important livestock breeds in the plateau. Yaks can live in an extremely low-oxygen environment for a long time and avoid pulmonary hypertension caused by hypoxia. However, little is known about the molecular regulatory mechanisms of how yaks avoid pulmonary hypertension. In this study, the dynamic regulation of the TGF-β/BMP signal in yak pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells has positive significance in maintaining homeostasis and adapting to hypoxic environments. To survive in low-oxygen environments, yaks effectively avoid hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension through vascular remodeling. The TGF-β/BMP signaling pathway plays a key role in maintaining the homeostasis of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). However, little is known about the molecular regulatory mechanisms by which the TGF-β/BMP signaling pathway contributes to the proliferation of yak PASMCs. In this study, yak PASMCs were cultured in vitro, and a hypoxia model was constructed to investigate the effect of TGFβ/BMP signaling on yak PASMC proliferation. Hypoxia treatment increased the proliferation of yak PASMCs significantly. As the duration of hypoxia increased, the expression levels of TGF-β1 and the phosphorylation levels of Smad2/3 were upregulated significantly. The BMP signaling pathway was transiently activated by hypoxia, with increases in BMPR2 expression and Smad1/5 phosphorylation, and these changes were gradually reversed with prolonged hypoxia exposure. In addition, exogenous TGF-β1 activated the TGF-β signaling pathway, increased the phosphorylation levels of the downstream proteins Smad2 and Smad3, and increased the proliferation and migration rates of yak PASMCs significantly. Finally, treatment with noggin (an inhibitor of BMP signaling) significantly reduced BMPR2 protein expression levels and Smad1/5 phosphorylation levels and increased yak PASMC proliferation and migration rates. Simple Summary: Turano-Mongolian cattle breeds are known for adaptation to extreme environmental conditions and for outstanding production traits. The Buryat and Wagyu Turano-Mongolian breeds are characterised by adaptation to harsh climates and poor forage, and top-quality marbled meat, respectively. In our study, we explored the genomes of these breeds to learn about the selection underlying these traits. A set of scans for genetic signatures of selection using complementary approaches allowed us to reveal candidate genes and variants likely shaping the biology of Buryat and Wagyu breeds. These findings could help with livestock improvement efforts. Past and ongoing selection shapes the genomes of livestock breeds. Identifying such signatures of selection allows for uncovering the genetic bases of affected phenotypes, including economically important traits and environmental adaptations, for the further improvement of breed genetics to respond to climate and economic challenges. Turano-Mongolian cattle are a group of taurine breeds known for their adaptation to extreme environmental conditions and outstanding production performance. Buryat Turano-Mongolian cattle are among the few breeds adapted to cold climates and poor forage. Wagyu, on the other hand, is famous for high productivity and unique top-quality marbled meat. We used hapFLK, the de-correlated composite of multiple signals (DCMS), PBS, and FST methods to search for signatures of selection in their genomes. The scans revealed signals in genes related to cold adaptation (e.g., STAT3, DOCK5, GSTM3, and CXCL8) and food digestibility (SI) in the Buryat breed, and growth and development traits (e.g., RBFOX2 and SHOX2) and marbling (e.g., DGAT1, IQGAP2, RSRC1, and DIP2B) in Wagyu. Several putatively selected genes associated with reproduction, immunity, and resistance to pathogens were found in both breed genomes. Increasing levels of inbreeding with the loss of genetic diversity have been observed since years and are therefore the subject of scientific research for many decades and the resulting consequences for the economically important performance, health and functional traits in dairy cattle breeding. The aim of this study was therefore to review methods and previous findings on inbreeding effects in dairy cattle populations based on pedigree data from the literature. Negative effects of inbreeding (inbreeding depression) are well documented for breeding traits in livestock populations. An increase in the inbreeding coefficient based on pedigree data by 1% was associated with a decrease in the phenotypic trait value by 0.13% of the mean or by 0.59% of the phenotypic standard deviation. A reduction of inbreeding depression (purging) can occur when, as a result of selection, the individuals affected by stronger inbreeding depression in their survival and reproductive rate are increasingly impaired or used less frequently in breeding and thus alleles with negative effects on fitness are lost in the population. If sufficiently deep pedigree data are available, it becomes possible to show effects of reduced inbreeding depression using ancestral inbreeding coefficients. Across all studies, the estimated value for the ancestral inbreeding depression Fa_Kal according to Kalinowski et al. (2000) was -1.272% of the phenotypic standard deviation, for the new inbreeding Fa_New according to Kalinowski et al. (2000) -0.866% of the phenotypic standard deviation and the interaction between F and Fa_Bal (Ballou, 1997) -7.063% of the phenotypic standard deviation. This shows that purging of the inbreeding depression by selection was not detectable for all traits investigated, as the inbreeding depression was higher for ancestral inbreeding than for new inbreeding or the inbreeding depression associated with the interaction of the classical inbreeding coefficient with Fa_Bal. For the 305-day milk yield traits of the cows, there was clear evidence of purging of inbreeding depression in the Holsteins in the Netherlands and a reduction of inbreeding depression in the Holsteins in Ireland. However, for fertility and longevity traits, there was no reduction in inbreeding depression due to selection. It is therefore important to minimize the increase in ancestral and new inbreeding. Several factors can modify productivity in sheep flocks; one of them is gastrointestinal (GI) parasitosis by nematodes, which can cause weight loss, growth retardation, and, in extreme situations, death. Parasite infections involve the immune system for resistance or susceptibility; therefore, strategies are currently being sought that will currently be efficient in the long term to reduce this affectation. One of these strategies is precision livestock breeding, which consists in the identification and selection of genetically resistant animals, using molecular markers. The objective of this review is to gather novel information on quantitative traits (IQT) and genome-wide association studies (GWAS), which confirm the relevance of certain regions or genes in resistance to ovine gastrointestinal parasitosis. Likewise, the potential relevance of new regions was analyzed to perform finer mappings and find sets of polymorphisms that may allow a more efficient selection, while also considering the particular conditions of the sheep herds. The first record of captive-bred red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) dates to 1896 when a breeding enterprise emerged in the provinces of Atlantic Canada. Because its domestication happened during recent history, the red fox offers a unique opportunity to examine the genetic diversity of an emerging domesticated species in the context of documented historical and economic influences. In particular, the historical record suggests that North American and Eurasian farm-bred populations likely experienced different demographic trajectories. Here, we focus on the likely impacts of founder effects and genetic drift given historical trends in fox farming on North American and Eurasian farms. A total of 15 mitochondrial haplotypes were identified in 369 foxes from 10 farm populations that we genotyped (n  = 161) or that were previously published. All haplotypes are endemic to North America. Although most haplotypes were consistent with eastern Canadian ancestry, a small number of foxes carried haplotypes typically found in Alaska and other regions of western North America. The presence of these haplotypes supports historical reports of wild foxes outside of Atlantic Canada being introduced into the breeding stock. These putative Alaskan and Western haplotypes were more frequently identified in Eurasian farms compared to North American farms, consistent with historical documentation suggesting that Eurasian economic and breeding practices were likely to maintain low-frequency haplotypes more effectively than in North America. Contextualizing inter- vs. intra-farm genetic diversity alongside the historical record is critical to understanding the origins of this emerging domesticate and the relationships between wild and farm-bred fox populations. Simple Summary: Aesthetic traits are major components of modern feline breeds. Each breed is defined by a standard specifying morphology; coat length, texture, and colour; and eye colour. Considering the coat and eye colour may help breeders in managing their breeding stocks to optimise their mating, but it also has an impact on the health and well-being of cats. Indeed, some colours and patterns may be associated with deleterious traits. Recently, a new coat and eye pattern has been described in cats. It has been called "dominant blue eyes (DBE)" and includes one or two blue eyes or particolored eyes and minimal white spotting. Different feline breeding lines were developed for DBE, and in some lineages, deafness has been identified as being associated with this trait. The Altai and Topaz breeds were created using DBE founding cats found in Kazakhstan and Russia. The Celestial breed, recognised in France, was created using a DBE outbred male from Kazakhstan and British shorthair and longhair cats. Other breeds, including the Maine Coon, British, Persian, Siberian, Sphynx, and Munchkin cats, introduced DBE. We have previously identified two variants associated with DBE, and here, we report the discovery of a third DBE variant. Finally, we review the presence of the three DBE variants in 14 feline breeding lines. During the last twenty years, minimal white spotting associated with blue eyes was selected by feline breeders to create the Altai, Topaz, and Celestial breeds. Additionally, certain breeders introduced this trait in their lineages of purebred cats. The trait has been called "dominant blue eyes (DBE)" and was confirmed to be autosomal dominant in all lineages. DBE was initially described in outbred cats from Kazakhstan and Russia and in two purebred lineages of British cats from Russia, as well as in Dutch Maine Coon cats, suggesting different founding effects. We have previously identified two variants in the Paired Box 3 (PAX3) gene associated with DBE in Maine Coon and Celestial cats; however, the presence of an underlying variant remains undetermined in other DBE breeding lines. Using a genome-wide association study, we identified a single region on chromosome C1 that was associated with DBE in British cats. Within that region, we identified PAX3 as the strongest candidate gene. Whole-genome sequencing of a DBE cat revealed an RD-114 retrovirus LTR (long terminal repeat) insertion within PAX3 intron 4 (namely NC_018730.3:g.206975776_206975777insN[433]) known to contain regulatory sequences. Using a panel of 117 DBE cats, we showed that this variant was fully associated with DBE in two British lineages, in Altai cats, and in some other DBE lineages. We propose that this NC_018730.3:g.206975776_206975777insN[433] variant represents the DBEALT (Altai Dominant Blue Eye) allele in the domestic cat. Finally, we genotyped DBE cats from 14 lineages for the three PAX3 variants and showed that they were not present in four lineages, confirming genetic heterogeneity of the DBE trait in the domestic cat. In the postantibiotic era, the pathogenicity and resistance of pathogens have increased, leading to an increase in intestinal inflammatory disease. Bacterial infections remain the leading cause of animal mortality. With increasing resistance to antibiotics, there has been a significant decrease in resistance to both inflammation and disease in animals, thus decreasing production efficiency and increasing production costs. These side effects have serious consequences and have detracted from the development of China's pig industry. Microcin C7 (McC7) demonstrates potent antibacterial activity against a broad spectrum of pathogens, stable physicochemical properties, and low toxicity, reducing the likelihood of resistance development. Thus, McC7 has received increasing attention as a potential clinical antibacterial and immunomodulatory agent. McC7 has the potential to serve as a new generation of antibiotic substitutes; however, its commercial applications in the livestock and poultry industry have been limited. In this review, we summarize and discuss the biosynthesis, biochemical properties, structural characteristics, mechanism of action, and immune strategies of McC7. We also describe the ability of McC7 to improve intestinal health. Our aim in this study was to provide a theoretical basis for the application of McC7 as a new feed additive or new veterinary drug in the livestock and poultry breeding industry, thus providing a new strategy for alleviating resistance through feed and mitigating drug resistance. Furthermore, this review provides insight into the new functions and anti-infection mechanisms of bacteriocin peptides and proposes crucial ideas for the research, product development, and application of bacteriocin peptides in different fields, such as the food and medical industries. The article provides an overview of IBR testing in Irish beef herds as part of the National Beef Welfare Scheme (NBWS) 2023. The study found that IBR remains endemic in the Irish beef cattle sector, but at a lower prevalence than previously reported. The herd-level prevalence was 48.8%, and the animal-level prevalence was 11.4%. The study suggests that targeted interventions in herds with a within-herd prevalence below 20% could lead to containment and potentially facilitate the eradication of IBR on a broader scale. The activity level of newborn lambs is one of the most important indicators to assess the vitality of the lambs and the reproductive capacity of ewes. In this study, a novel multi-object tracking (named state vector-enhanced ByteTrack) was proposed to automatically calculate the vitality of newborn lambs. This innovative approach integrates advanced tracking algorithms to analyze lamb movement with high precision detection. According to the activity of lambs, the breeding performance of ewes was evaluated, and the lambs with low vitality were detected in time. Traditional multi-object tracking (i.e., ByteTrack) tends to cause identity switching, when the occlusions occurred. Furthermore, the state vectors that only contained the position and shape information were not sufficient to accurately distinguish between occluding and occluded lambs. Specifically, the higher confidence scores were received in the lambs that were occluding, while the occluded lambs received the lower confidence scores. The confidence information was used to better distinguish between overlapping newborn lambs, thereby improving tracking accuracy. Once the tracking target was lost, the linear Kalman filter was led to accumulate the errors in the predicted trajectory. The cubic spline interpolation was used to reconstruct the virtual trajectory during the target loss period. The state vector of the lost target's trajectory was then re-updated, according to the reconstructed virtual trajectory. The accuracy of the trajectory state vector was improved, and the cumulative error in the predicted trajectory is corrected. The state vector-enhanced ByteTrack was used to track the activities of newborn lambs, thereby obtaining the movement trajectory for each lamb. According to the movement trajectory, the displacement between adjacent frames was calculated for each lamb, and then summed to represent the activity level of the lamb. The performance of the state vectorenhanced ByteTrack was tested on the video dataset of lamb activity collected at the Jiangsu Haimen Goat Research and Development Center. The extensive testing phase ensured the reliability and accuracy of the tracking system under various conditions. The experimental results show that the proposed multi-target tracking achieved the remarkable performance on several key indexes. Specifically, the high-order tracking accuracy (HOTA) was 80.8%, the multi-target tracking accuracy (MOTA) was 86.1%, the multi-target tracking precision (MOTP) was 84.5%, and the recognition F1 score (IDF1) was 92.2%. The indexes were 2.7, 0.2, 2.3, and 3.9 percentage points higher than those of current mainstream methods, respectively. The state vector-enhanced ByteTrack demonstrates robustness under different birthing conditions, providing consistent and reliable tracking performance that can be effectively deployed in real-world farming scenarios. In summary, the state vector-enhanced ByteTrack algorithm innovatively uses the confidence information and track state vector to re-update, and realizes the stable tracking of newborn lambs. The scheme provides data and technical support for automatic calculation of lamb vitality and evaluation of ewe breeding performance. The practicability and effectiveness of the model were verified to monitor the animal health and reproductive performance. Management of inbreeding is one of the crucial parts of breeding programs in livestock populations. Traditionally, the inbreeding coefficient is calculated using pedigree data; however, it can also be estimated from genomic data. Nowadays, various approaches to estimating genomic-based inbreeding coefficients are increasingly integrated into research and breeding practices. These genomic estimators can supplement or replace pedigreebased coefficients. Each genomic-based inbreeding coefficient has its own properties and different ranges of values, and some of them need specific settings for calculation. Moreover, depending on the methodological approach, genomic estimators are sensitive to the population structure, genotyping technology applied, and the quality control of obtained genomic data. It is important to consider all these factors when calculating and especially when interpreting the final genomic inbreeding values. For these reasons, using genomic-based inbreeding coefficients can be more challenging than using pedigree-based ones. In this review, we comprehensively evaluate the most commonly used genomic estimators of individual inbreeding in livestock, providing an in-depth analysis of their advantages and limitations while offering insights into the methodological considerations and best practices for their accurate calculation and interpretation. At present, most of the environmental control systems of pigsties use direct control methods; when factors, such as temperature and humidity, exceed the set threshold value, the corresponding actuator is turned on for regulation. However, such methods have problems such as low control accuracy, high energy consumption, and untimeliness. In order to save on energy consumption and improve control accuracy, this paper takes the predicted value, set value, and current detection value of the internal environment of a pigsty as input, and combines fuzzy control and direct control methods to realize the predictive control of the pigsty environment. The test results show that, compared with the direct control method, the fuzzy predictive control method can make fluctuations in the internal temperature and humidity of the pigsty less close to the set threshold value, while the ammonia concentration hardly exceeds the set threshold value. The results show that predictive control can more accurately control the internal environment of the pigsty and reduce energy costs by about 20%. Therefore, this method can provide scientific and effective environmental control methods for agricultural production processes, such as livestock breeding and greenhouse cultivation, in semi-confined spaces. Simple Summary: The Inner Mongolia white Cashmere goat is a breed of goat formed by long-term breeding that is used for mutton and cashmere and can be divided into the Arbas type, Erlangshan type, and Alashan type. The growth and development traits of livestock are affected by many factors, which can be roughly divided into two categories: genetic factors and non-genetic factors. Non-genetic factors generally include sex, birth month, birth type, birth year, group, and some other environmental factors and their interaction effects. To study their effects on different traits is to analyze the reasons for the differences in livestock production performance and put forward major suggestions so as to provide a theoretical basis and reference for the selection breeding of livestock and improve the economic benefits of livestock breeding. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a collection method used to compare multiple mean values of different groups. This study analyzed the influence of non-genetic factors on the growth, development, and cashmere production performance traits of Inner Mongolia white cashmere goats (Erlangshan type) and finally identified the non-genetic factors affecting growth, development, and cashmere production traits of Inner Mongolia white cashmere goats (Erlangshan type). The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of non-genetic factors on the growth and development performance of Inner Mongolia white cashmere goats (Erlanghan type), such as birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), 6-month weight (6 WT), 12-month weight (12 WT), body height (BH), and body length (BL), and wool production performance, such as cashmere fineness (CF), cashmere thickness (CT), and cashmere yield (CY). The research objects were 4654 kids produced by 45 buck goats and 2269 doe goats in the Erlang Mountain Ranch of Beiping Textile Co., Ltd., Inner Mongolia, from 2020 to 2023. Based on the generalized linear model, ANOVA was used to analyze the effects of non-genetic factors, such as birth year (Y), birth month (M), sex (S), birth type (T), birth herd (H), assay flock (F), age at measurement (MA), and the age of doe goats at lambing (DLA), on growth and development traits and cashmere traits. The results show that the birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), 6-month weight (6 WT), 12-month weight (12 WT), body length (BL), body height (BH), chest depth (CD), chest width (CW), chest circumference (CC), cannon circumference (CNC), wool length (WL), and cashmere yield (CY) of buck goats were significantly higher than those of doe goats (p < 0.01), and the fineness of the cashmere produced by doe goats was significantly finer than that produced by buck goats (p < 0.01). The birth weight, weaning weight, and 6-month weight of single kids were significantly higher than those of multiple kids (p < 0.01), but the effect on the 12-month weight was not significant (p > 0.05). The age of doe goats at lambing had significant effects on birth weight, weaning weight, and 6-month weight (p < 0.01). Assay flock and age at measurement had significant effects on cashmere fineness, cashmere thickness, and cashmere yield (p < 0.01). This study will provide a basis for the scientific breeding and management of cashmere goats and lay a foundation for the setting of fixed effects in the genetic evaluation model of Inner Mongolia white cashmere goats (Erlangshan type). Studies of livestock dynamics and productivity is an effective mechanism to monitor the possible risks to the breeding of animals of different species and a timely response to strengthen the food security of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The research aims to conduct an analytical review of the state of livestock breeding on the main species of animals that are bred in its territory and the forecast of development soon. The materials for the analysis were reports from the Bureau of National Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as information in Kazakh and foreign periodicals on the state of livestock breeding and current news in the agricultural sector of the country. The statistical materials on the number of animals of different species, gross output received from them, investment activities, and other indicators directly or indirectly related to the dynamic indicators in animal husbandry were used. The results of the analytical review revealed positive annual dynamics of increasing the number of livestock of most species of farm animals in the country. Thus, the growth of cattle population is 2-4% from year to year, a similar situation is observed in sheep (2-4%) and poultry (4-10%); the only exception is a decrease in pig population by 5-9%. Populations of cattle, sheep and goats, horses, and camels are mainly concentrated in small farms and individual households, so a significant part of products from them does not get to industrial processing, which leads to the need to import them to meet the needs of the urban population. The main mass of poultry, although represented by the livestock of specialized agricultural enterprises, the volume of output does not provide the necessary volume, which is reflected in an increase in purchases abroad. Therefore, to date, there are no visible prerequisites for reducing the number of animals of all species that are bred in Kazakhstan, and the state support of livestock breeding can contribute to the further growth of livestock

Background: Linear models that are commonly used to predict breeding values in livestock species consider paternal influence solely as a genetic effect. However, emerging evidence in several species suggests the potential effect of non-genetic semen-mediated paternal effects on offspring phenotype. This study contributes to such research by analyzing the extent of non-genetic paternal effects on the performance of Holstein, Montbéliarde, and Normande dairy cows. Insemination data, including semen Batch Identifier (BI, a combination of bull identification and collection date), was associated with various traits measured in cows born from the insemination. These traits encompassed stature, milk production (milk, fat, and protein yields), udder health (somatic cell score and clinical mastitis), and female fertility (conception rates of heifers and cows). We estimated (1) the effects of age at collection and heat stress during spermatogenesis, and (2) the variance components associated with BI or Weekly aggregated BI (WBI). Results: Overall, the non-genetic paternal effect estimates were small and of limited biological importance. However, while heat stress during spermatogenesis did not show significant associations with any of the traits studied in daughters, we observed significant effects of bull age at semen collection on the udder health of daughters. Indeed, cows born from bulls collected after 1500 days of age had higher somatic cell scores compared to those born from bulls collected at a younger age (less than 400 days old) in both Holstein and Normande breeds (+ 3% and + 5% of the phenotypic mean, respectively). In addition, across all breeds and traits analyzed, the estimates of non-genetic paternal variance were consistently low, representing on average 0.13% and 0.09% of the phenotypic variance for BI and WBI, respectively (ranging from 0 to 0.7%). These estimates did not significantly differ from zero, except for milk production traits (milk, fat, and protein yields) in the Holstein breed and protein yield in the Montbéliarde breed when WBI was considered. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that non-genetic paternal information transmitted through semen does not substantially influence the offspring phenotype in dairy cattle breeds for routinely measured traits. It is believed that the combined effects of pluripotent transcription factors, pivotal signaling pathways, and epigenetic regulation contribute to maintaining their pluripotent state, forming a comprehensive regulatory network. Local livestock breeds play a crucial role in global biodiversity, connecting natural and human-influenced environments and contributing significantly to ecosystem services. While commercial breeds dominate industrial systems, local livestock breeds in developing countries, like Barbarine sheep in Tunisia, are vital for food security and community maintenance. The Tunisian Barbarine sheep, known for its adaptability and distinctive fat-tailed morphology, faces challenges due to historical crossbreeding. In this study, the Illumina Ovine SNP50K BeadChip array was used to perform a genome-wide characterization of Tunisian Barbarine sheep to investigate its genetic diversity, the genome structure, and the relationship within the context of Mediterranean breeds. The results show moderate genetic diversity and low inbreeding. Runs of Homozygosity analysis find genomic regions linked to important traits, including fat tail characteristics. Genomic relationship analysis shows proximity to Algerian thin-tailed breeds, suggesting crossbreeding impacts. Admixture analysis reveals unique genetic patterns, emphasizing the Tunisian Barbarine's identity within the Mediterranean context and its closeness to African breeds. Current results represent a starting point for the creation of monitoring and conservation plans. In summary, despite genetic dilution due to crossbreeding, the identification of genomic regions offers crucial insights for conservation. Zinc and cadmium ions are usually found in livestock breeding wastewater, and the mixed ions will have an impact on the biological nitrogen removal. Nitrification performance plays an important role in biological nitrogen removal. In order to investigate the combined effect of zinc and cadmium ions on nitrification performance and to reveal the interactions between zinc and cadmium ions, three concentration ratios of zinc and cadmium ions, as well as 18 different concentration gradients were designed with the direct equipartition ray and the dilution factor method. The effect of pollutants on the nitrification performance of biological nitrogen removal was analyzed by the nonlinear regression equation, and the concentration-addition model was conducted to probe into the relationship between the mixed pollutants and the nitrification performance. The results showed that the effect on nitrification performance increased significantly with the increase of reaction duration and pollutant concentration, which indicated that the effects are concentration-dependent and time-dependent. The concentration-addition model suggested that the interactions between zinc and cadmium ions with different concentration ratios were mainly antagonistic, and as the percentage of cadmium ions in the mixtures increased, the antagonism between the mixtures became stronger. This study will provide a relevant theoretical basis for the regulation of the ratios and concentrations of heavy metal ions during the biological treatment of livestock breeding wastewater. Algeria hosts seven species of the Columbidae family, including pigeons and doves, the majority of which have been the subject of numerous studies, but none have been conducted on the Stock Dove (Columba oenas). Data on this species are still scarce, and its distribution is limited only to Kabylie in northern Algeria. Species occurrence data were collected from September 2022 to August 2023 using the point count method. However, the species was recently recorded in several new localities (20 stations) in West Algeria, at Sidi Bel Abbès and Tlemcen. All our observations were made in a semi-arid bioclimatic area at an altitude ranging between 750 and 1,216 m. Nesting sites were located on woodland and forest edges, not far from water sources, and feeding sites were located in open, natural, or agricultural environments where cereal seeds, grasses, flower buds, and young green shoots were consumed. Simple Summary: Simple Summary: The prevention of the spread of poultry diseases within and among farms largely depends on the adoption of good biosecurity practices. Through the process of profiling European poultry producers, we were able to identify the particular aspects that influence the adoption of biosecurity practices. The results suggest a wide and varied attitude towards biosecurity in the poultry farming community. Generally, most producers appear to be aware of the risks associated with poor biosecurity and the outcomes of carrying out or not carrying out certain practices. Yet, compared with producers of laying hens or parent breeding stock, meat poultry producers (broiler, turkeys, and ducks) appear to have more blocking components with regard to biosecurity. The education level had a positive effect on perception about biosecurity. Poultry producers are not a homogeneous group, and to change their attitudes and actions, approaches must consider the producers' mindset and need to be tailored to the specific needs of the producers. Poultry producers' attitudes towards biosecurity practices were assessed by using the ADKAR® (Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and Reinforcement) behavioral change model. Conventional poultry producers (n = 155) from different production types including broilers (n = 35), layers (n = 22), breeders (n = 24), turkeys (n = 19), ducks (n = 23), free-range broilers (n = 11), free-range layers (n = 11), and hatcheries (n = 10) from seven European countries were scored for each ADKAR element (1 = total absence to 5 = perfect fulfilment). Each country performed selected interventions (e.g., coaching, participatory meetings, etc.) to improve biosecurity compliance. After the interventions, significant change was observed in three of the four attitude elements. The overall mean scores ( x ¯ ± SD) obtained during the initial assessment (n = 130) were 4.2 ± 0.6 for Awareness, 4.1 ± 0.7 for Desire, 3.8 ± 0.8 for Knowledge, and 4.0 ± 0.7 for Ability, whereas after intervention, the scores were A = 4.3 ± 0.6, D = 4.2 ± 0.7, K = 4.1 ± 0.7, and Ab = 4.1 ± 0.7. The Reinforcement component was only evaluated after the change and obtained a score of 3.7 ± 0.7 on average. Identifying the elements influencing poultry producers and their behavior related to farm management decisions was useful in guiding our educational interventions to effectively change their behavior.
