1. Path-Integral-Based Reinforcement Learning Algorithm for Goal-Directed Locomotion of Snake-Shaped Robot

Abstract

This paper proposes a goal-directed locomotion method for a snake-shaped robot in 3D complex environment based on path-integral reinforcement learning. This method uses a model-free online Q-learning algorithm to evaluate action strategies and optimize decision-making through repeated “exploration-learning-utilization” processes to complete snake-shaped robot goal-directed locomotion in 3D complex environment. The proper locomotion control parameters such as joint angles and screw-drive velocities can be learned by path-integral reinforcement learning, and the learned parameters were successfully transferred to the snake-shaped robot. Simulation results show that the planned path can avoid all obstacles and reach the destination smoothly and swiftly.

Abstract

An ideal proton exchange membrane should only permeate protons and be leak tight for fuels. Graphene is impermeable to water and poorly conducting to protons. Here, we chemically functionalized monolayer graphene to install sulfophenylated sp3 dislocations by diazotization. Selective to protons, transmembrane areal conductances are up to ~50 S/cm2, which is ~5000 fold higher than in pristine graphene. Mounted in a direct methanol fuel cell, sulfophenylated graphene resulted in power densities up to 1.6 W/mg or 123 mW/cm under standard cell operation (60 C), a value ~two-fold larger than micron-thick films of Nafion 117. The combination of sp3 dislocations and polar groups, therefore, allow the creation of hydrophilic ion paths through graphene and unveils a novel route to rationalize transmembrane hydron transport through 2D materials.

35. Extraction of the second and fourth radial moments of nuclear charge density from the elastic electron-nucleus scattering

Abstract

The expression for the radial moments $\left\langle r^{n}\right\rangle_{c}$ of the nuclear charge density has been discussed under the plane wave Born approximation (PWBA) method recently, which is significant to investigate the nuclear surface thickness and neutron distribution radius. In this paper, we extend the studies of extracting second-order moment $\left\langle r^{2}\right\rangle_{c}$ and fourth-order moment $\left\langle r^{4}\right\rangle_{c}$ from the Coulomb form factors $|F_{C}(q)|^2$ by the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) at the small momentum transfer $ q $ region. Based on the relativistic mean-field (RMF) calculations, the DWBA form factors $F_{C}^{DW}(q)$ are expanded into $ q^4 $, where the corresponding charge distributions are corrected by the contributions of neutron and spin-orbit densities. In the small $ q $ region, it is found that the experimental $|F_{C}(q)|^2$ can be well reproduced by considering the contributions of the $\left\langle r^{4}\right\rangle_{c}$ at the small $ q $ region. Through further analyzing the second-order and fourth-order expansion coefficients of the $F_{C}^{DW}(q)$, the relationship between the expansion coefficients and proton number $ Z $ is obtained. By the relationship, we extract the $\left\langle r^{2}\right\rangle_{c}$ and $\left\langle r^{4}\right\rangle_{c}$ from the limited experimental data of form factors at the small $ q $ region. Within the permissible range of error, the extracted $\left\langle r^{n}\right\rangle_{c}$ are consistent with the experimental data in this paper.

Abstract

This study aimed to shed light on how school principals' motivating style (need-supportive and need-thwarting) influences teachers' job crafting (approach and avoidance crafting). Drawing on the dual-process model within self-determination theory as an explanatory framework, we examined the mediating role of psychological needs (need satisfaction and frustration) and work motivation (autonomous and controlled motivation) as motivational mechanisms in these relationships. Data were collected from 453 Chinese primary and secondary school teachers. Structural equation modeling analyses showed that need satisfaction and autonomous motivation partially mediated the relationship between school principals' need-supporting styles and teachers' approach job crafting ('bright' motivating pathway). Need frustration and controlled motivation fully mediated the relationship between school principals' need-supporting styles and teachers' avoidance job crafting (a cross-path). Moreover, school principals' need-thwarting styles are positively and indirectly related to teachers' avoidance job crafting through need frustration and controlled motivation ('dark' motivating pathway) and indirectly related to teachers' approach job crafting through need satisfaction and autonomous motivation (a cross-path). Abstract

Many promising optoelectronic devices, such as broadband photodetectors, nonlinear frequency converters, and building blocks for data communication systems, exploit photoexcited charge carriers in graphene. For these systems, it is essential to understand, and eventually control, the cooling dynamics of the photoinduced hot-carrier distribution. There is, however, still an active debate on the different mechanisms that contribute to hot-carrier cooling. In particular, the intrinsic cooling mechanism that ultimately limits the cooling dynamics remains an open question. Here, we address this question by studying two technologically relevant systems, consisting of high-quality graphene with a mobility >10,000 cm$^2$V$^{-1}$s$^{-1}$ and environments that do not efficiently take up electronic heat from graphene: WSe$_2$-encapsulated graphene and suspended graphene. We study the cooling dynamics of these two high-quality graphene systems using ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy at room temperature. Cooling via disorder-assisted acoustic phonon scattering and out-of-plane heat transfer to the environment is relatively inefficient in these systems, predicting a cooling time of tens of picoseconds. However, we observe much faster cooling, on a timescale of a few picoseconds. We attribute this to an intrinsic cooling mechanism, where carriers in the hot-carrier distribution with enough kinetic energy emit optical phonons. During phonon emission, the electronic system continuously re-thermalizes, re-creating carriers with enough energy to emit optical phonons. We develop an analytical model that explains the observed dynamics, where cooling is eventually limited by optical-to-acoustic phonon coupling. These fundamental insights into the intrinsic cooling mechanism of hot carriers in graphene will play a key role in guiding the development of graphene-based optoelectronic devices.
