Intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) is the most common cause of ischemic stroke among Asian population, and its predilection site is middle cerebral artery. Symptomatic middle cerebral atherosclerotic stenosis (sMCAS) has a high risk of stroke recurrence and needs active interventions, but the choice of intervention strategy is controversial. This article reviews the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, imaging evaluation and intervention strategies of sMCAS, aiming to provide reference for individual selection of intervention strategies.

Recent studies of immigrant families have called for a reconceptualizing of the influence of social class on education, articulated by the one social class model: White middle-class families possess the cultural capital to foster their social mobility. Focusing on three undocumented and mixed-status Chinese immigrant families in New York City for 3.5 years, we found those who arrived in the United States with the most social class resources fared the worst, whereas those who had less in China were able to persist better. We argue the mechanism underlying this reversal of expected social class patterns is the cultural practice of saving face, which reflects the intersection of social class status, documentation status, and intergenerational acculturation. From this article, we demonstrate understandings of social class among immigrants, especially those of precarious legal status, must expand and incorporate social status experiences prior to immigration, notions of belonging in the United States and being undocumented, and changes through acculturation influence practices that can directly affect mobility.

With the increasing numbers of immigrant and refugee students across the US K--12 system, the xenophobia of the current political climate, and the effects of COVID19 on the immigrant community, it is critical to examine schools that serve immigrant students and their families. Drawing on case studies of two public high schools that exclusively serve immigrant students, authors Adriana Villavicencio, Chandler Patton Miranda, Jia-Lin Liu, and Hua-Yu Sebastian Cherng examine how educators frame the current political context and how this frame informs their collective approach to engaging with and supporting families. The study finds that these schools shifted norms of parental engagement by proactively forging relationships with families, cultivating alliances with community partners, and mediating within families around challenges related to work and higher education to benefit the communities they serve. In so doing, these school actors have shifted the norms of parental engagement to center the perspectives, voices, and experiences of immigrant families.

Introduction: Severe spinal cord injury results in the loss of neurons in the relatively intact spinal cord below the injury area and skeletal muscle atrophy in the paralyzed limbs. These pathological processes are significant obstacles for motor function reconstruction. Objective: We performed tail nerve electrical stimulation (TNES) to activate the motor neural circuits below the injury site of the spinal cord to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of the excitatory afferent neurons in promoting the reconstruction of locomotor function. Methods: Eight days after T10 spinal cord transection in rats, TNES was performed for 7 weeks. Behavioral scores were assessed weekly. Electrophysiological tests and double retrograde tracings were performed at week 8. Results: After 7 weeks of TNES treatment, there was restoration in innervation, the number of stem cells, and mitochondrial metabolism in the rats' hindlimb muscles. Double retrograde tracings of the tail nerve and sciatic nerve further confirmed the presence of synaptic connections between the tail nerve and central pattern generator (CPG) neurons in the lumbar spinal cord, as well as motor neurons innervating the hindlimb muscles. Conclusion: The mechanisms of TNES induced by the stimulation of primary afferent nerve fibers involves efficient activation of the motor neural circuits in the lumbosacral segment, alterations of synaptic plasticity, and the improvement of muscle and nerve regeneration, which provides the structural and functional foundation for the future use of cutting‐edge biological treatment strategies to restore voluntary movement of paralyzed hindlimbs. This article is a response to the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's claims regarding a study on health inspector ratings of Asian restaurants during the early COVID-19 pandemic. The authors address the methodological claims made by the DOHMH and argue that their statistical analyses support the finding of inequalities in inspectors' ratings for Asian-cuisine restaurants. They refute the DOHMH's claims about the use of data, stating that their analysis controls for unobserved variables and focuses on trends of cuisines rather than specific restaurants. The authors also respond to other points raised by the DOHMH, including collaboration and the use of open data. The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated the restaurant industry, with Asian restaurants having perhaps suffered the most, as many reported business losses well before shelter-in-place orders were announced. Media outlets argue that this decline in business reflects biases that are linked to the China- and food-related origin of COVID-19. However, discrimination against Asian Americans and their cuisine is not new, as it is rooted in a long and history of assimilation and racism. Overlooked in this body of literature, as well as in conversations on the impacts of COVID-19 on Asian restaurants, is the role of how government institutions shape these biases against a cuisine that has hundreds of years of history in the US yet remains distinctly 'foreign'. In this study, we use 3-years of New York City restaurant health inspection data to examine trends in citation scores before and after the onset of the news of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a synthetic control approach, we find that Asian restaurants uniquely received more citations after news of the pandemic became pervasive in the US. We end by discussing the implications of this finding for the history of Asian cuisine in the US, theoretical frameworks to understand assimilation, and the restaurant industry. The progression of prostate cancer (PCa) leads to poor prognosis. However, the molecular mechanism of PCa is still not completely clear. This study aimed to elucidate the important role of centromere protein A (CENPA) in PCa. Large numbers of bulk RNA sequencing (RNA‐seq) data and in‐house immunohistochemistry data were used in analysing the expression level of CENPA in PCa and metastatic PCa (MPCa). Single‐cell RNA‐seq data was used to explore the expression status of CENPA in different prostate subpopulations. Enrichment analysis was employed to detect the function of CENPA in PCa. Clinicopathological parameters analysis was utilised in analysing the clinical value of CENPA. The results showed that CENPA was upregulated in PCa (standardised mean difference [SMD] = 0.83, p = 0.001) and MPCa (SMD = 0.61, p = 0.029). CENPA was overexpressed in prostate cancer stem cells (CSCs) with androgen receptor (AR) negative compared to epithelial cells with AR positive. CENPA may influence the development of PCa through affecting cell cycle. Patients with nodal metastasis had higher expression level of CENPA. And patients with high CENPA expression had poor disease‐free survival. Taken together, Overexpression of CENPA may influence the development of PCa by regulating cell cycle and promoting metastasis. A growing body of work that has examined Chinese immigration to the US has coined the term "culture of remittances": money that is sent home not only provides economically but also elevates the "face" of the family. However, using qualitative data from a multiyear ethnographic study of three undocumented and mixed-status Chinese families in the US and their families in China, we find that garnering face for the family is less of a motivator than the fear of losing it. This dynamic plays a role at all stages of immigration and amplifies existing norms in a way that perpetuates disadvantage experienced by Chinese immigrants. As these undocumented Chinese immigrants craft an idealized narrative of their lives in the US, more members from their sending communities are motivated to immigrate, leading to precarious consequences.
