This report presents and discusses the available data and information on the thermal conductivity of the elements and contains the recommended reference values resulting from critical evaluation, analysis and synthesis of the available data and information. It also gives estimated values, at least for normal temperature, for all those elements for which no thermal conductivity information is available. Experimental thermal conductivity data are available in the world literature for 82 elements and estimated values for four other elements. Estimated values for the remaining 19 elements are given here, although only rough estimates are given for the trans-plutonium elements. Thus, this work provides recommended or estimated thermal conductivity values for all the 105 elements. This work is published in two companion versions: this comprehensive volume and an abridged version. In addition to the recommended and estimated thermal conductivity values for elements, the comprehensive volume presents the original data, specimen characterization, and measurement information for the 5200 sets of raw data compiled; contains a detailed discussion for every element reviewing the individual pieces of available data and information together with the considerations involved in arriving at the final assessment and recommendations, and with the theoretical guidelines or semi-empirical correlations on which the critical evaluation, analysis, and synthesis are based; and includes also the complete bibliographic citations for the 1658 references., Pub. in Jnl. of Physical and Chemical Reference Data, v3 suppl 1 pI-1 - I-796 1974.

Covering data and information on 19 nonmetallic fluid elements, this volume provides comprehenisve, up-to-date knowledge on 4 major properties-specific heat at constant pressure, thermal conductivity, viscosity, and Prandtl number-as well as the values of a number of selected physical constants-critical compressibility factor, critical pressure, critical temperature, density, dielectric constant, heat of fusion (at NMP), heat of vaporization (at NBP), molecular weight, normal boiling point (NBP), normal melting point (NMP), and vapor pressure (at NMP)-all 15 properties indexed at the end of the volume. The critical discussion of the presented data contains and indication of accuracy. Whenever possible, all physical states are treated (gas, vapor, saturated states, dilute gas, and pressure-dependent states). (Author)

This report presents calculated values of the viscosity, thermal conductivity, and Fickian diffusion coefficient for gases and gas mixtures of interest to laser technology. Tables of viscosity, thermal conductivity, and diffusion coefficient have been prepared for one hundred seven binary mixtures and for nine pure substances, the latter being helium, atomic and molecular hydrogen, atomic and molecular deuterium, atomic and molecular fluorine, hydrogen fluoride, and deuterium fluoride. Most of the binary mixtures are combinations of these substances. The temperature range was from 100 to 3000 K. For the pure substances, the most recent recommendations were used and for the mixtures, the Lennard-Jones 6-12 potential was used for viscosity and diffusion, and a linear mixing rule was employed for thermal conductivity. The precision of the tabulated values is reviewed. The present state-of-the-art in predicting these properties is briefly surveyed. It is concluded that significant discrepancies can still exist between theoretical and experimental quantities., Supersedes AD-757 528 and report dated Dec 1973, AD-782 024.

Tables of viscosity, thermal conductivity, and diffusion coefficient have been prepared for sixty-nine binary mixtures. The temperature range was from 100 to 3000 K. For the substances comprising the binary mixtures recent recommendations were used, some of these being taken from our earlier report (Part 1). For the mixtures the Lennard-Jones 6-12 potential was used for viscosity and diffusion, and a linear mixing rule was employed for thermal conductivity. The work presented in this report comprises the critical evaluation, analysis, and synthesis of the available thermal conductivity data and the generation of recommended values for twelve metallic elements, mainly for the solid state, for a range of graphites, and for three fluids in the gaseous state. These are cadmium, chromium, lead, magnesium, molybdenum, nickel, niobium, tantalum, tin, titanium, zinc, zirconium, Acheson graphite, ATJ graphite, pyrolytic graphite, 875S graphite, 890S graphite, acetone, ammonia, and methane. For each of the materials recommended values are given over a wide range of temperature. (Author)

The work presented in this report consists of the critical evaluation and analysis of the available thermal conductivity data on eleven metals and nine nonmetals mainly for the solid state, on seven fluids for both the liquid and gaseous states and on two for the liquid state only. The materials studied were selected primarily for their potential applicability as reference standards or because of their technical importance. The temperature range for which values are given often exceeds that for which these values are known with a high degree of certainty. While TPRC assumes full responsibility for the recommendations of these reference data, it also reserves the right to revise these recommendations in the light of better or more complete information that may become available subsequently.

The TPRC Data Series published in 13 volumes plus a Master Index volume constitutes a permanent and valuable contribution to science and technology. This 17,000 page Data Series should form a necessary acquisition to all scientific and technological libraries and laboratories. These volumes contain an enormous amount of data and information for thermophysical properties on more than 5,000 different materials of interest to researchers in government laboratories and the defense industrial establishment. Volume 3 in this 14 volume TPRC Data Series covers nonmetallic pure substances and mixtures which are in the fluid state at normal temperature and pressure, including 12 elements (plus two isotopes of hydrogen), 10 inorganic compounds, 33 organic compounds, 82 binary systems, 23 ternary systems, and eight systems with more than three components. For the elements, recommended thermal conductivity values are presented for solid, saturated liquid, saturated vapor, and gaseous states. For the other pure substances, recommended values are presented for saturated liquid and gaseous states for fluid mixtures, graphically smoothed values are given in addition to the original experimental data., See also Volume 4, ADA951938. This is the abridged version of a comprehensive volume on the thermal conductivity of the elements. It contains recommended reference values resulting from critical evaluation, analysis, and synthesis of all the available data. It also gives estimated values for those elements for which no thermal conductivity data are available. Thus, the work provides recommended or estimated thermal conductivity values for all the elements over the full temperature ranges where experimental data are available or reliable extrapolations or estimations can be made. The results on each element are presented in both graphical and tabular forms. Summary graphs arranged by group in the periodic table are also given.
