The aim of this paper was to explore the perception of public information officers (PIOs) toward the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2013. For the said purpose the researchers explored: (a) perception of PIOs toward usefillness of the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2013; (b) level of satisfaction of public information officers toward implementation of this Act; and (c) perception of PIOs toward constraints in implementation of the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2013. The paper used quantitative approach and questionnaire was source of data collection. All (350) public information officers designated in the Lahore district were the targeted sample of this study. Response rate was 63٠/o (221/350). The study established that public information officers (PIOs) perceived the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act as a useful tool for transparency, openness, and good governance in public fonctionaries. The study found low level of satisfaction of public irrformation officers toward the implementation of this Act in Punjab, Pakistan. The study highlighted that the key constraint in implementation of PTRIA, 2013 was unawareness about the RTI Act among citizens. The study also found that usefolness of the Freedom of Information Act and satisfaction toward implementation of this Act is diverged with different salary scales of public information officers. Nowadays, electronic portal has become the main tool to provide the resources of knowledge and information in the institutes of higher educational. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the usefulness of such electronic portals. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to investigate the usefulness of library services provided through the library portal to the faculty members of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Lahore Campus. The faculty members ftom all the departments participated in this study including Managements Sciences, Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Architecture and Design, Humanities, Physics and Mathematics. For data collection, a questionnaire-based survey that is a standard approach was conducted. Among the total 214 distributed questionnaires some 150 faculty members submitted their responses which were in usable form. The total response rate was 70 %. All the received data was entered in the SPSS and analyzed. The responses revealed that majority of the faculty considered library portal as effective and were satisfied. Publishing houses can play vital role in the mindset of readers. Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Karachi became the hubs of the publishing industry after partition. These cities of Pakistan have rich history of publishing houses. These publishing houses played very important part in the state of mind of Pakistani readers. The objective of this research study was to make an appraisal of the trends of publishing in the field of Language and Linguistics in two decades of 21 ؟'century (2000-2015) in Pakistan. To achieve tliese goals a mixed mode of research was used. The data were collected from National Bibliography of Pakistan (2000-2015). Based on the findings of the study it was found that the ratio of published material in the field of language and Linguistics recorded very low only 1% to total published material. Results also reveals the high ratio of male writer (90%) as compare to female writers (10٥/o). The outcomes of the research study expose that big cities Lahore (29٥%) Karachi (28%) Islamabad (25٥/o) holds the 82% of overall published material. The ratio of publislred material in the subject area of teaching of languages is high almost 36% books related to the branch of langue teaching. Marketing has become widely applicable in libraries and information services (LIS), it revolves around client satisfaction. The present study aims to explore the perception of the University of Punjab (PU) librarians about LIS marketing and to explore the status of application of extended 3ps of service marketing mix i.e. people, process and physical evidence in the University of Punjab's departmental libraries (PULs). The population consisted of in charge Librarians of the University of Punjab. Survey research based mainly on questionnaires along with observation record sheets, and discussion was used. The instruments were developed based on previously published literature and were reviewed by LIS experts. Data collected through questionnaires and observations were analyzed using SPSS. Descriptive statistics i.e. Frequency, Percentage, and Mean were used for data analysis. The findings revealed that most of the librarians have an idea of applying marketing techniques for promotion purposes. There was a communication gap between in charge librarians and their heads. Furthermore, little attention has been paid towards the interior of libraries to make them attractive and alive. The Auraria Library, which serves the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver and the Community College of Denver, collaborated with several academic courses on its campus to investigate some aspects of Participatory Action Research and Service Learning. The goal was to have students (the largest library user group) formulate questions, analyze data and provide suggestions that would help the library make evidence based decisions. The projects would provide student produced information that would be used to renovate the library. How can an academic library most effectively participate and expand its contributions to program reviews at the institutional level? By becoming involved in undergraduate reviews, college and university libraries can articulate new and enhanced roles for themselves on campus. Academic libraries have always contributed to a variety of institutional review processes. However, by embracing a more holistic view of its support, the library can expand beyond collection-related metrics to encompass all the ways the library interconnects with the program. Furthermore, by becoming proactively involved with the committee(s) responsible for managing institutional program reviews, libraries can contribute to the governance of this essential activity on campus. This paper describes one academic library's experience and efforts in becoming involved with undergraduate reviews at both the program and institutional levels. A content analysis was conducted of status messages posted by academic libraries on seventeen Facebook pages. In addition to being informational, libraries attempt to engage and establish rapport with students through Facebook. Since the 1990s, the assessment of learning outcomes in academic libraries has accelerated rapidly, and librarians have come to recognize the necessity of articulating and assessing student learning outcomes. Initially, librarians developed tools and instruments to assess information literacy student learning outcomes. Now, academic librarians are moving to a larger scale assessment approach: the articulation and demonstration of library impact on institutions of higher education. Joint-use libraries have identified staff integration as a problem. Using focus groups, this project investigated the culture, professional ethics, and attitudes of staff in a public-tertiary joint-use library in Auckland, New Zealand. This exploratory study assesses the differences and similarities between how instruction librarians in Western Canada use Google and how they instruct students to use it. University students living in rural, regional, and remote (RRR) areas of Australia face unique challenges including geographical isolation, lack of access to face-to-face support, and technological barriers. Additionally, RRR students from low-socioeconomic (low-SES) backgrounds experience multiple forms of disadvantage compared to their on-campus peers, and require additional study, learning, and social support. Partnerships between universities and local public libraries can enhance RRR low-SES student success through increased access to face-to-face support, reliable technologies, and study facilities. This exploratory research, led by five regional universities, presents the first national-level empirical data exploring how Australian public libraries and universities can work together to facilitate success for RRR low-SES students. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with public librarians from RRR low-SES communities across Australia. Thematic analysis findings explore themes of librarians' perceptions of students as persons; the role of regional librarians in supporting RRR low-SES students; RRR low-SES students' access to learning support; and the critical elements of sustainable partnerships between RRR public libraries and universities. Key recommendations are provided to guide future partnerships between public libraries and universities, including building the foundations of partnerships; professional development to support partnerships; and recommendations for good partnership practices. As universities seek new ways to engage and support students in their learning, in Australia, students from regional and remote areas pose a challenge for universities given their geographical, social and technological isolation compared with their metropolitan counterparts. Much of the literature that address challenges associated with distance learning focus on teaching, course design and ways of accessing learning materials. Little is known about the provision of learning support services. Public libraries are well placed within their communities to assist university students with their learning needs. The aim of this research was to explore the idea of universities and public library services working together to support regional student success. The University of Southern Queensland provided the context for this study. Semi-structured interviews with representatives from public library services in regional areas of Queensland were conducted to find out what service is currently being provided to students; challenges, opportunities and related issues. Thematic analysis was used to identify themes that told the ‘story’ within the data. Findings suggest there is an opportunity for universities and public libraries to work together to support regional student success, and that this opportunity is worthy of further discussion and exploration. These narratives chronicle the authors' journeys to collaborate and discover the transformative impact that stories have on library culture and library staff. This study describes a research collaboration between York County Libraries and Penn State York. In Phase I, we collected stories from library staff as the library system was being challenged to reimage public libraries for the future. The major themes and types of organizational stories identified in the initial narrative project were presented during a county-wide all- staff in-service training. The library District Consultant (first author) and the Penn State professor (second author) then facilitated a workshop designed to lead staff in their exploration of these topics and generate a written record of their storytelling/discussions. The purpose of this study was to explore the information literacy (IL) practices, methods and techniques being implemented in China’s university and research libraries. The study selected a concurrent mixed-methods research design. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and in-depth interviews with professionals from 10 universities and research libraries in Beijing, China. Convenience sampling was used to collect data from the library professionals. The results show that university libraries are in far better positions than research libraries but that there is still a need for improvements. The findings indicate that IL training through library orientations and tours and introductory information skills are frequently and successfully being used in both types of libraries. For orientation, face-to-face delivery was used in 80 percent of university libraries and 60 percent of research libraries. IL programs were integrated into some subject units and available in 100 percent of the university libraries and 60 percent of the research libraries. University libraries performed better in implementing IL programs compared with the research institutes’ libraries. A number of gaps exist between university and research libraries in terms of information literacy practices. These gaps can be filled by overcoming barriers such as the absence of inactivity of professional library associations, the lack of government interest, the lack of faculty collaboration, and the failure to promote IL programs among the user community. This article investigates the value, and perceptions of value, of academic libraries to teaching and research staff by examining working relationships between libraries and academic departments in universities. Eight case studies were undertaken in the US, the UK and Scandinavia. Primary findings were analysed and triangulated with a series of short surveys to ascertain whether they resonated with other librarians’ experiences. The article offers examples of good practice in the area of partnership building for academic libraries to improve their value to, or perceptions of value by, teaching and research staff, as well as raise their profile and better market their services to this category of users. The article discusses a study that examined the use of library resources by Kwara State University (KWASU) students at the University Library in Malete, Kwara State in Nigeria. Topics covered include use of the simple random technique in the questionnaire survey of 520 KWASU student and statistical analysis using frequencies and percentages. Conclusions indicated average library users from 15-25 years old, seldom use of reference materials and 75.8% saying information needs are met.

The article discusses a study that identified requirements of a 24-hour library service and funding sources for developing a model framework for implementation at university libraries in Nigeria. The present article has made an attempt to study the faculty perception on Library faculties in Autonomous Arts and Science Colleges in one of the biggest cities in Tamil Nadu, India. A number of research studies have been conducted related to information literacy in universities. The findings indicated the roles of libraries in information literacy education by means of the arrangement of information literacy activities for students, such as orientation, short training programme, teaching at the reference desk, online self learning programme and co-teaching in class. This research was aimed at studying the roles of university libraries in the support of information literacy integration in the course instruction. Two research approaches, a survey and a focus group were used. Data were collected from 42 academic librarians by using the questionnaires and then confirming the data by conducting a focus group interview with 15 experts in the field of library and information science, curriculum and instruction, and general education. The findings indicate that university libraries are the important organisation with the roles to teach and support the integration of information literacy in the instruction of various undergraduate courses. Libraries have 4 major roles, namely, (a) preparation of resources and learning sources, (b) supporting the teaching of information literacy of educators and librarians, (c) organising learning and teaching activities that develop students' information literacy, and (d) organising activities to develop educators' information literacy. It is suggested that library administrators take the roles to prepare library infrastructures and resources necessary for the integration of information literacy. Librarians should be trained to be able to effectively teach in courses and organise the activities to promote knowledge and understanding of information literacy among educators and students. Discussions have been carried out in recent years regarding the emergence of iSchools in the field of library and information science (LIS). One theme in the discussions centres on whether those iSchools, deriving from LIS programs, are indeed different from other non-iSchools of the field. To address this question, five iSchools and five non-iSchools that host the ALA-accredited master's program are compared in terms of program requirements, core courses, concentrations/specializations, and other related parameters. Few distinctive differences are observed between the two groups except for more course offerings by the iSchools and higher number of concentrations/specializations among the non-iSchools. This study also examines issues concerning the iSchool movement (e.g., exclusiveness) based on the findings obtained. Although branding is a common practice, it is the collaboration and interaction among all the schools, with or without the "i" prefix, that would truly advance the information field in general and facilitate information education in particular. The author spent six months in Bhutan in 2010 at the request of the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB). Her brief was to advise how to improve the standard of the libraries of the ten constituent RUB colleges, particularly relating to library services for users. The original study investigated the current state of RUB academic libraries. Once this state was identified and evaluated, it was necessary to decide what should, and realistically could, be done to improve the constituent libraries and align them more closely to western academic libraries. Very little has been written or published about academic libraries in Bhutan. The main method utilised was situational analysis, involving the design of a rubric for identifying common factors of libraries, followed by time spent working in each library to gather information. In most libraries, this consisted of at least a week spent working with staff and assessing the library. Observation was used and recorded photographically. Also, library staff was interviewed informally, as was staff in the Office of the Vice Chancellor (OVC) of the RUB. At the conclusion of each library visit, a brief report making specific recommendations pertaining to that library was presented to the library staff member in charge; both to provide feedback prior to the final report, and to give library staff documentation to pass on to the campus Director and Dean of Academic Affairs who facilitated the visit. In addition to the brief memoranda provided to each library, a final report was presented to the OVC in a workshop setting with opportunities for stakeholders to ask questions. A more detailed report with supporting appendices was also provided to the OVC. Seven main recommendations were contained in the report with the seventh recommendation having several sub-sections relating to a number of staffing issues. This paper introduces readers to an area of academic librarianship about which little has been written or known outside of Bhutan. For-profit schools constitute the fastest-growing sector of higher education institutions in the United States.[1] Yet accompanying the phenomenal growth of these proprietary colleges and universities has been considerable controversy over the role that the profit motive should play in higher education.2 The literature of higher education contains increasingly more works about proprietary schools. The library literature, however, offers little in this arena. Through this article, the authors seek to introduce the library readership to U.S. for-profit colleges and universities. We summarize their history and their characteristics, and we explore reasons for their success and present areas in which these schools appear to excel. With regard to their library services and resources, we focus on issues of concern based specifically on our experience with academic libraries in proprietary schools operating in the state of Ohio. The authors have started to create an AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language)-based Hungarian-language chat robot to assist researchers in submitting scientific manuscripts, especially to journals in computer science. Their broader aim for the future is to analyse the experience with the knowledge base under development. Using this chatterbot in library reference service is worth considering, as regards both the online catalogue and the library homepage. The chat bot was named after a Hungarian king, Könyves Kálmán (Coloman, the Book-lover). It could help to transmit general, library-related information and could present library services via an interactive interface; thus patrons could contact a virtual librarian on a 24/7 basis. Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to discuss the convergence of the academic library and the information technology departments regarding whether this is, as has been suggested, "an arranged marriage" or a synchronous melding of two related services, and to establish an awareness of the various models resulting from this concept. Design/methodology/approach -- The approach takes the form of a literature review and commentary on this topic that has been addressed by colleagues. The article offers the author's view on the library as a neutral zone for everyone who can come together and get equal access to work in the U.S. He mentions the potentiality of libraries to improve both collaboration and communication between different academic fields and considers it as a place that offers aid and resources to every person on campus. Purpose - Online information vendors currently offer a variety of additional services; among these are alert services which present requested information on recent publications to registered users. This paper aims to investigate a variety of alert services provided by four online information vendors. Design/methodology/approach - A comparison of the alert services of major online information providers (Ebsco, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, and Scopus) used by the Central Library of Tarbiat Modares University in Iran was undertaken. These alert services were evaluated using a check-list and their structure and service were compared with regard to the quantity and quality of received alerts. The subject area of library and information science was used for the study. Findings - No relative significance was found between the total alerts' relevance and the size of the databases of journal articles. ProQuest was found to have a more reliable alert system and it provided more relevant alert results than the other services. Users should recognise that additional services, such as alert services, are a useful help to their information-seeking behaviour. Library managers should regard alert services as an effective tool for current awareness purposes. However, careful attention should be given to the differences and structures of the services offered. Alert quantity does not necessarily mean good performance. Originality/value - University libraries and information centres pay a lot of money annually to online information providers. Alert systems could reduce the time users spend seeking for information by providing quick access to new information. The article presents a research study about the increasing library services at Ohio State University (OSU). The main purpose of this study is to identify patterns within the record of canceled interlibrary requests that could point out some reasons why OSU Libraries' patrons still request interlibrary services for documents that are already available for them. The study will utilize the patterns among OSU groups of users, items requested, and the citations used and patterns of navigating searches navigations of searching links for the desired items.

With decreased funding and personnel reductions in many libraries across the United States, local librarians are searching for innovative methods to create sustainable partnerships in the community. Using Mississippi State University's Day One Leadership Community as a case study, this article illustrates how service-learning provides a dynamic connection between a public library and a local university. Establishing such a partnership proved beneficial for student learning, helpful in accomplishing projects in a local library, and through the resulting publicity provided greater interest in and access to library materials for the local community. Because the mission of smaller academic libraries serving fewer than 10,000 full-time enrolled students is mainly to serve the curriculum-based needs of students and faculty, collection management in these libraries needs to be directly related to changes in the curriculum of the parent institution. A look into applicable collection management literature, combined with one library's experience, offers insights about effective curriculum-based collection building in a smaller academic library setting. To achieve efficiency, collection managers must maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing instructional and research needs at their institutions, the needs new programs have for library materials, appropriate collection assessment tools, and the tasks involved in a focused expansion project. By optimizing consultations with faculty and evaluation procedures scaled to its needs, the library at North Georgia College & State University, a modestly sized academic institution, established a model for becoming an active participant in new course and program planning during the application stage, ensuring appropriate library support for new courses and programs of study.
