As a critical component for pool-type Sodium cooled Fast Reactor (SFR), the main vessel plays a major role in holding the entire sodium in the pool. While the Reactor Vessel Cooling System (RVCS) would contribute to the cooling of the main vessel. This paper develops a one-dimensional code and the numerical analysis has been conducted to evaluate the thermal-hydraulic characteristics for RVCS for China Experimental sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (CEFR). Firstly, the code is applied to the analysis on the steady characteristics of RVCS and the results are compared with the design value. The simulation results show that the main vessel is cooled effectively and the comparison results are in good agreement with the design value. Then, in order to study the transient characteristics of RVCS, the code is coupled with the Transient Thermal-Hydraulic Analysis Code for Sodium-cooled fast reactors (THACS). The simulation finds that a reverse flow in RVCS shows up and RVCS could take the decay heat out effectively, which contributes a lot to the core cooling. The code evaluated the thermal-hydraulic characteristics as well as the decay heat removal capacity of RVCS. The results are very promising but further experimental data is still needed to validate the code.

This study was designed to investigate mast cell activation and related TLR4-NF-κB/TNF-α pathway variation in 3 and 7 days' rats intestinal I/R injury, and TXL's intervention effect. Rat intestine I/R injury was carried out using superior mesenteric artery occlusion model with 30 min ischemia followed 3 or 7 days' reperfusion. Rats were administered TXL ultrafine power of 0.4, 0.8 and 1.6g/kg/d respectively for 3 or 7 days after modeling. Mast cell activation was determined by immunofluorescent double staining. TLR4, ANGPTL4 and microRNA126 were determined by RT-PCR. PECAM-1, NF-κB p65, TNF-α and VE-Cadherin were determined by immunohistochemical staining. Intestine I/R induced massively mast cell activation and overexpressed TLR4, NF-κB, TNF-α, PECAM-1, miR126 in 3 and 7 days. VE-cadherin and ANGPTL4 expression was reduced. TXL treatment attenuated mast cell activation and inhibited TLR4, NF-κB, TNF-α, PECAM-1 over-expression in 3 and 7 days, protected VE-cadherin and ANGPTL4 protein. Inflammation boomed in rats' intestine I/R injury for 3 and 7 days, characterized by mast cell and related TLR4-NF-κB/TNF-α pathway activation, accompanied with endothelial barrier dysfunction and enhanced vascular permeability. TXL treatment attenuated inflammation, protected endothelial barrier function. TXL treat intestine I/R injury, according with "Treat different diseases with the same method" in TCM theory.

Objective To investigate the influence of acute blood stasis on nitric oxide (NO), angiotensin II (Ang II), angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4) mRNA, neuregulin 1 (NRG-1) mRNA, and platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1) in rats with stasis induced by high-molecular-weight dextran (HMWD). Methods Seventy-five Sprague Dawley rats were divided randomly into five groups (n = 15 in each group): control group, immediate group, 1 h group, 3 h group, and 6 h group. A model of acute blood stasis was established via injection of HMWD into the tail vein. After performing electrocardiogram at the predetermined times according to the grouping, we collected blood and cardiac samples for hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and histopathological examination via transmission electron microscopy. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect plasma levels of NO, Ang II, and fibrinogen. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the expression of ANGPTL4 mRNA and NRG-1 mRNA. Immunohistochemical methods were used to detect PECAM-1 protein expression. Results The rat model of blood stasis showed blood retention in the capillary lumens. The ST segment showed gradual elevation, and was still elevated at 3 and 6 h after induction of blood stasis. HE staining showed myocardial cell necrosis and dissolution after modeling, along with basement membrane rupture and mitochondrial structural damage. Transmission electron microscopy showed endothelial cell swelling and an increase in absorption vesicles immediately after modeling. Endothelial cell apoptosis was increased at 3 and 6 h after modeling. Cardiac muscle fibers were disordered and intercalated discs were blurred immediately after modeling. There were massive numbers of dissolved cardiac muscle fibers, ruptured basement membranes, and mitochondrial structural damage at 3 and 6 h after modeling. NO plasma concentration was significantly reduced immediately and 1 h after modeling, while it was increased at 3 and 6 h. Ang II plasma concentration was decreased immediately after modeling, but increased at 1, 3, and 6 h. Fibrinogen plasma concentration was significantly increased at immediate, 1, 3, and 6 h after modeling. PECAM-1 protein expression was obviously increased immediately after modeling, at 1, 6 h was found mild augment. Expression of AngPTL4 mRNA was increased at immediate, 1, 3, and 6 h after modeling, and was found further augment at 3, and 6 h. Expression of NRG-1 mRNA was increased at immediate, 1, 3, and 6 h after modeling, and the strongest expression was at 1 h. Conclusion The pathological manifestation of acute blood stasis is characterized by microvascular blood retention. Prolonged blood stasis leads to worsening endothelial cell and cardiomyocyte damage, along with imbalances in the expression of vasomotor factors and increased vascular tone. The pathological damage caused by blood stasis also promotes the expression of cell protection factors.

The effects of interficial shear between liquid film and flowing-steam cannot be neglected during the steam condensation process in vertical tubes, and the Nusselt condensation model should be modified. In this paper, the heat transfer characteristics of steam condensation in vertical tube were investigated by experiments. Both the Nusselt theoretical model and the modified model considering interficial shear effects were adopted and compared with the experimental measurements. The results show that interfacial shear stress have significant influence on the liquid film flow state and thin liquid film thickness, which further results in higher condensation heat transfer coefficient. As the modified model considers interficial shear correctly, and its calculation results agree well with the experimental results.

In the pipeline system of nuclear industry, shock wave pressure in a pipe will be caused by the fast closing check valve after the pumping stops. This phenomenon is known as water hammer, which brings hidden danger to the security and reliability of the pipeline system. Specially, water hammer may cause serious damage on the pipeline system by the valve misoperation, by the valve malfunction, or by other unexpected events. A vortex diode is used as a highly reliable check-valve in nuclear applications, where it mainly benefits from the intrinsic properties of no moving parts and no leakage. In this paper, we proposed a novel method based on a vortex diode to protect water hammer. In the traditional analysis, a simple one-dimensional (1D) model is often used to simulate the water hammer. However, it is difficult to get the transient flow characteristics in a vortex diode using a 1D model. Thus, a three-dimensional (3D) model using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is proposed to analyze water hammer in a pipeline system with a vortex diode. The 3D model was firstly verified by comparing the numerical results of CFD with experimental results of a water hammer test. Based on the 3D model, the water hammer was simulated at different inlet conditions in a pipeline system with a vertex diode. In order to investigate the vortex diode used as a leaky check-valve, the inlet pressure was decreased by the corresponding value of pump head to simulate the pump stop after the quasi-steady state was achieved in the vortex diode. It is found that the pressure fluctuation of water hammer is comparable to the pump value, which is not varying with initial velocity in the pipeline system. Thus, we have proved that a vortex diode in the pipeline system acts significantly in suppressing pressure fluctuation of water hammer. This study presents a CFD-based numerical method for water hammer and could be useful in protecting water hammer in nuclear industry.

OBJECTIVE To examine the microvascular pathological characteristics and changes in related injury factors in a rat model of acute blood stasis. METHODS A total of 75 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided randomly and equally into a control group and four experimental groups assessed at different times after the induction of stasis (0, 1, 3 or 6 h after stasis) (n = 15). The acute blood stasis model was established through rat tail-vein injection of high-molecular-weight dextran. After Electrocardiograph (ECG) detection at predetermined times (0, 1, 3 and 6 h after induction of stasis), the rats were sacrificed and blood and cardiac samples were harvested for analysis. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and transmission electron microscopy were used for histopathological detection; an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect thromboxane B2 (TXB2) and 6-keto-prostaglandin F1α (6-Keto-PGF1α) concentrations; a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) reaction system was used to detect intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule1 (VCAM-1) mRNA expression; western blotting was used to detect vascular endothelial cadherin (VE-cadherin) protein expression. RESULTS The ST segment in the ECG showed gradual elevation after induction of stasis and continued elevation at a high level at 3 and 6 h. The HE staining showed changes in myocardial cell necrosis and tissue dissociation after the induction of stasis, along with inflammatory infiltration. Results of transmission electron microscopy showed immediate changes in blood stasis and lumen occlusion in the microvasculature, along with endothelial cell swelling. After the induction of stasis, TXB2 concentrations gradually increased while 6-Keto-PGF1α concentrations were immediately significantly reduced. The TXB2/6-Keto-PGF1α ratio was maintained at a high level. ICAM-1 mRNA expression showed an unstable elevation while VCAM-1 mRNA expression was significantly reduced after the induction of stasis. Compared with the control group, VE-cadherin protein expression increased at 0 and 3 h after the induction of stasis, while no change occurred at 1 and 6 h. CONCLUSION The pathological manifestations of acute blood stasis are microvascular blood retention, lumen stenosis and even occlusion. The condition is also called “blood coagulation and weep” in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The blood stasis model resulted in the injury and necrosis of endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes, along with the presence of an imbalance of vasomotor factor levels, platelet activation, and increases in the expression of adhesion molecules and endothelial barrier dysfunction, which corresponds to “blood failed to nourish” in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Background: Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease, while its mechanism is still unclear. Long-term levodopa-based treatment leads to decreased response or loss of response, as well as severe side effects. Our previous study has proved that Bushenhuoxue Granules have effects on Parkinson’s disease, but the underlying mechanism is still need to be explored. Our research is to investigate the mechanisms of Bushenhuoxue Granules on Parkinson’s disease (PD) by examining changes in the expression of the adenosine A2A receptor、vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2)、divalent metal transporter 1（DMT1） and nuclear factor E2 related (Nrf2) in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease (PD) .Materials and Methods: Changes in the apomorphine (APO)-induced rotational behavior of rats were observed after treatment. Immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry were performed to investigate changes in adenosine A2A receptor 、VMAT2、DMT1 and Nrf2 expression in the rat striatum and substantia nigra.Results: Rotations after treatment were199.11 ± 27.16, which significantly decreased compared with that before treatment ( 273.0 ± 44.61, p < 0.01). Adenosine A2A receptor expression in the striatum was 3.10 ± 0.34 significantly increased in the model group and decreased in the normal control group, whereas the expression level in the Bushenhuoxue group was 1.13 ± 0.23,p < 0.05 between the two control groups. No adenosine A2A receptor expression was observed in the substantia nigra. VMAT2 expression in the rat striatum was 23.20 ± 2.68 and substantia nigra was 15.98 ± 0.70 increased in the normal control group. They were 8.99 ± 0.48 in the rat striatum and 8.45 ± 0.59 substantia nigra significantly decreased in the model control group, whereas the expression level in the Bushenhuoxue group was 15.36 ± 0.89 in the rat striatum and 11.69 ± 1.17 in the rat substantia nigra (p < 0.05), also between the two control groups. DMT1 expression in the rat striatum was 3.30 ± 0.30 and substantia nigra was 6.56 ± 0.64 decreased in the normal control group. They were 7.92 ± 0.52 in the rat striatum and 12.76 ± 0.86 substantia nigra significantly increased in the model control group, whereas the expression level in the Bushenhuoxue group was 6.17 ± 0.27 in the rat striatum and 9.13 ± 0.44 in the rat substantia nigra (p < 0.05), also between the two control groups. Nrf2 expression in the rat striatum was 7.90 ± 0.29 and substantia nigra was 15.22 ± 1.22 increased in the normal control group. They were 3.09 ± 0.43 in the rat striatum and 8.57 ± 0.54 substantia nigra significantly decreased in the model control group, whereas the expression level in the Bushenhuoxue group was 5.00 ± 0.34 in the rat striatum and 12.46 ± 0.62 in the rat substantia nigra (p< 0.05), also between the two control groups.Conclusion: Bushenhuoxue Granules significantly improved the rotational behavior of PD’s rats, decreased adenosine A2A receptor expression, and increased VMAT2 expression; decreased DMT1 expression, and increased Nfr2 expression.Keywords: Parkinson’s disease; Traditional Chinese Medicine; Bushenhuoxue Granules; Striatum and Substantia nigra; Rats.

Jet pumps have the advantages in reliable operation, none of moving components and simple construction etc, which makes it applicable in a wide range of industry situations. The cavitation easily occurs within jet pumps and it turns to be a bottleneck for the jet pump design. In this paper, the cavitation flow inside the jet pump would be investigated by 2-D axisymmetric CFD simulations. Firstly, the single liquid phase flow in the jet pump would be simulated and the grid independence test would be carried out. The simulation results show that both the pressure ratio (h) and the efficiency (n) would reach to convergence values with 143,484 meshes, which would be adopted in the following simulations. By comparing with the experimental data of single phase flow in literatures, it was found that the Reynolds stress model offered better predictions. Then the cavitation flow in the jet pump was simulated. It could be found that the cavitation phenomenon trends to occur in the shear layer and the wall detached regions of the throat. At last, the influence of saturated vapor pressure model, the outlet pressure and the nozzle-to-throat clearance would be evaluated. It was found that different from the single phase flow, the optimal nozzle-to-throat clearance would vary with the operation conditions.

A vortex diode is used as a highly reliable check-valve in nuclear applications, where it mainly benefits from the intrinsic properties of no moving parts and no leakage. Its basic principle is similar to the diode in an electric circuit. The typical structure of a vortex diode consists of a chamber with axial and tangential ports. When the fluid is injected through the axial port, a simple radial flow in the chamber leads to a relatively low flow resistance. On the other hand, in the reverse flow mode, a strongly swirling vortex can be set up in the chamber, resulting in a very high flow resistance. Several experimental studies found vortex-induced vibration of a vortex diode in the reverse flow mode, where it indicated that the flow was unstable in the vortex diode. This phenomenon may affect the reliability of the vortex diode. However, the mechanism has not been investigated systematically and profoundly. In this paper, 3-D simulations are carried out to help understand the related flow characteristics in the vortex diode. Standard k-ε model was selected for forward flow, while Reynolds stress model was selected for reverse flow. We have found that the results from transient simulations are in good agreement with experimental data. The transient simulations also capture the periodic pressure fluctuation in the vortex diode. Vortex diodes with different structures and geometrical parameters are simulated at different Reynolds number conditions. It is found that the characteristics of the pressure fluctuation are determined by the structure parameters and working conditions of the vortex diode. The flow instability is mainly caused by the asymmetry of the vortex diode. The work presented in this paper will be useful to give better understanding of flows in vortex diodes and to provide some guidance for optimizing the vortex diode.

In the pipeline system of nuclear power plant (NPP), the transfer of pump induced vibration is quite noticeable, which will not only affect the operation stability of the equipment, but also cause the noise pollution problem. In this paper, an active vibration control (AVC) device is designed to reduce the pipeline system vibration induced by condensate water pump operation. This device consists of controller, sensor, actuator and conditioning circuit, and an adaptive control strategy is adopted. The pump rotating speed detected by the tachometer is transferred to the controller as the reference input signal, which is used to excite the actuator to generate an opposite force acting on pipelines and attenuating the vibration passing to foundation structures. To avoid the influence on pipeline system compactness, the structure design of actuator is adaptive to pipe clamp. Then a prototype is manufactured and a verification experiment about the vibration control effect is carried out on the stimulant bench of feed water system. At the design speed of condensate pump, the pipe vibration characteristics at various flux conditions are compared and analyzed. The results indicate that the vibration response of pipe clamp is well restrained when the AVC device is installed. Especially, the outstanding characteristic line spectrums of pump source are significantly declined; therefore, the total vibration level of the pipe clamp is effectively controlled.
