Many lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or gender diverse, or queer-identifying (LGBTQ) people provide informal support to peers experiencing mental ill health. This reflects both the high prevalence of mental ill health in their communities – often a product of discrimination – and barriers to accessing formal services. In this article, we explore how LGBTQ people who help peers with their mental health seek to cope with the stress of providing such support. Drawing on interviews with 25 LGBTQ people in Melbourne, Australia, we consider how community members being 'leant on' engage in self-care practices and seek help from their communities to cope with the stress of their support roles. We demonstrate that participants' ways of coping, even when similar, can vary in effectiveness and often come with limitations. Thus, we conclude that LGBTQ people providing informal support to peers should be better assisted to do so, in ways that acknowledge the diversity of support provided in LGBTQ communities. A need exists to examine the strengths and limitations of literature on LGBTQ + student mental health since higher education and helping professionals use it to support LGBTQ + college students. A summative content analysis of LGBTQ + student mental health research from 2009 to 2019 yielded three themes: (1) how authors frame research, including decisions on methodology, frameworks, and samples; (2) mental health issues explored as involving descriptions and attributions of mental distress, together with the (lack of) systemic analysis; (3) implications provided to enhance LGBTQ + student well-being, such as more resources, structural changes, and training. Abstract: To better understand the relationship between faith and LGBTQ+ identity, we conducted a qualitative analysis of 86 respondents to a general question posed through the Dear Abby column. Responses were anonymized and analyzed using a grounded theory approach. Analysis revealed six themes, reflecting a diversity of lived experience from community rejection to acceptance, and self-rejection to feelings of acceptance by God. Despite frequent media portrayals of conflict between faith and LGBTQ+ identity, the reality is more complex, and faith and LGBTQ+ identity development can be complementary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We explored how perceived discrimination and mental illness change as a function of mono vs non-monosexual minority identity. Archival data gathered through the Healthy Minds Network was used to examine these relationships between 249 mono and 554 non-monosexual minority individuals. Results indicated no differences in perceived discrimination between mono and non-monosexual minority individuals. Non-monosexual individuals evidenced significantly higher rates of mental health problems. Moderation analyses suggested perceived discrimination was a significant predictor of mental illness symptoms only for non-monosexual minority individuals.
