Context: There is a well-established increased risk of lower-extremity (LE) musculoskeletal (MSK) injury following a sport-related concussion (SRC). Neuromuscular training programs improve biomechanics associated with LE MSK injury and reduce LE MSK injury incidence, but their relative effectiveness in athletes with history of SRC is unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate LE MSK injury incidence in female adolescent athletes with history of SRC following a neuromuscular training intervention. Design: Prospective case-control. Methods: Seventy-seven adolescent female athletes aged 12–18 years who participated in soccer, volleyball, or basketball were recruited from a single institutional sports medicine research and performance center to complete a 6-week neuromuscular training program prior to competitive athletic season. Group (Control, History of SRC) comparisons of athlete exposure and relative LE MSK injury risk and rates during the competitive athletic season were assessed. Results: Ten injuries were recorded by 9 athletes. Female athletes who reported history of SRC had increased injury risk (Risk Ratio 3.9, 95% CI, 1.1–13.8, P =.01) and increased injury rate (rate ratio 4.1, 95% CI, 1.1–15.8, P =.03) compared with female athletes without history of SRC. Conclusions: Female adolescent athletes with history of SRC showed a greater risk of LE MSK injury compared with athletes with no history of SRC. Assessment of player's postural control following a lower limb injury is of interest to sports medicine practitioners due to its fundamental role in daily tasks and sporting activities. The aim was to longitudinally monitor professional rugby union players' postural control during each phase of the rehabilitation program (acute, middle, and late) following a lower limb injury. Seven male rugby union players (height 1.80 [0.02] m; mass 100.3 [11.4] kg; age 24 [4] y) sustained a time loss, noncontact lower limb injury. Static postural control was assessed via sway path (in meters), and dynamic postural control was assessed via vertical postural stability index. Group differences (P <.05) were reported across the acute, middle, and late phase. Smaller magnitudes of sway path were observed for eyes-open sway path, and for the middle and late phase smaller magnitudes of vertical postural stability index (P <.05) at the end session compared with first session. Whereas larger magnitudes of vertical postural stability index were found between baseline and the last session (P <.05). Large interindividual and intraindividual variation was apparent across the 3 phases of rehabilitation. Postural control improvements were identified during rehabilitation. Context: Current lower-extremity return to sport testing primarily considers the physical status of an athlete; however, sport participation requires continuous cognitive dual-task engagement. Therefore, the purpose was to develop and evaluate the reliability of a visual-cognitive reactive (VCR) triple hop test that simulates the typical sport demand of combined online visual-cognitive processing and neuromuscular control to improve return to sport testing after lower-extremity injury. Design: Test–retest reliability. Methods: Twenty-one healthy college students (11 females, 23.5 [3.7] y, 1.73 [0.12] m, 73.0 [16.8] kg, Tegner Activity Scale 5.5 [1.1] points) participated. Participants performed a single-leg triple hop with and without a VCR dual task. The VCR task incorporated the FitLight system to challenge peripheral response inhibition and central working memory. Maximum hop distance, reaction time, cognitive errors, and physical errors were measured. Two identical testing visits were separated by 12 to 17 days (14 [1] d). Results: Traditional triple hop (intraclass correlation coefficients: ICC(3,1) =.96 [.91–.99]; standard error of the measurement = 16.99 cm) and the VCR triple hop (intraclass correlation coefficients(3,1) =.92 [.82–.97]; standard error of the measurement = 24.10 cm) both demonstrated excellent reliability for the maximum hop distance, and moderate reliability for the VCR triple hop reaction time (intraclass correlation coefficients(3,1) =.62 [.09–.84]; standard error of the measurement = 0.09 s). On average, the VCR triple hop resulted in a hop distance deficit of 8.17% (36.4 [5.1] cm; P <.05, d = 0.55) relative to the traditional triple hop. Conclusions: Hop distance on the VCR triple hop had excellent test–retest reliability and induced a significant physical performance deficit when compared with the traditional triple hop assessment. Introduction Musculoskeletal injuries (MSKIs) among active duty soldiers result in more than 10 million limited duty days each year and account for more than 70% of the medically nondeployable population. Overuse injuries in lower limbs from running, foot marching long distances with heavy loads, and lifting heavy objects are the most common types of injuries in the military. Physical training and rehabilitation exercises for greater resiliency through aerobic, muscle strength, endurance, and agility conditioning programs can prevent or reduce the effects of MSKIs if Soldiers adhere to proper biomechanics and training techniques. We are introducing a three-dimensional (3D) camera-based platform for Optical Screening and Conditioning for Injury Resilience (OSCIR) that is designed to identify and correct high-risk movement patterns based on quantifiable biomechanical measurements in clinical or field settings. Our goal is to improve resilience to MSKI by offering greater access to quality of movement skills in warfighters through an autonomous device that can be used in Sports Medicine and Reconditioning Team (SMART) clinics and High-Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) sites. Materials and Methods OSCIR fuses four pairs of Kinect Azure cameras into a concise footprint to achieve suitable sampling rates and an unobstructed field of view for accurate dynamic movement tracking using a custom point cloud solution. We designed a unique multistage 3D joint tracking algorithm architecture to methodically isolate the human body point cloud from the background, identify individual limb segments, and perform iterative joint optimization at the global and local joint levels. We evaluated the feasibility of our prototype system among N  = 12 control participants (6 M/6 F; 21-37 years) in compliance with the Western Institutional Review Board (Tracking #20225920, approved on November 4, 2022). Five task-specific MSKI outcome metrics identified by end-user physical therapists and athletic trainers as indicators for movement quality were assessed across 7 lower-extremity exercises derived from standardized MSK assessment/conditioning batteries used in the military. Data were recorded concurrently by OSCIR and a reference standard Vicon motion capture system for validating system accuracy. Results Task-specific MSKI indicators for knee flexion and hip flexion range of motion achieved an average error of 4.05 ± 2.34°, while 3D position-based postural outcomes of left-right foot distance, left-right hand distance, and step length obtained mean absolute errors of 2.58 ± 2.30 cm. Results support the feasibility of our system in achieving outcomes that are comparable to currently accepted laboratory standards. Conclusions Our study describes the integration process for a 3D camera-based clinical system for MSKI conditioning and rehabilitation. The impact of our system will enable key stakeholders in the military to manage MSKIs in warfighters by automating key assessment and rehabilitation test batteries; making tests more readily accessible, and interpretations more accurate by providing objective biomechanical measures. Background: Equestrian sports, also referred to as equestrianism, is practiced all over the world and a popular leisure activity in Sweden. Equestrianism is the country's second-largest youth sport, and previous studies indicate that accidents are common in equestrianism. However, few previous studies have examined acute equestrian injuries leading to permanent medical impairment (PMI). Methods: By using nationwide insurance data comprising all injured equestrians registered in the Swedish Equestrian Federation, the aim was to analyse characteristics of equestrian accidents and particularly injuries leading to PMI, both in general and by age, gender, incident type, injury type and injured body region. Injury incidence and injuries leading to PMI were examined. All equestrians injured during 2017–2021 were included (n = 6,876), however, only injuries occurring in 2017 and 2018 were used to analyse the risk and the injury distribution of injuries leading to PMI. Injury incidence was calculated separately for males and females, as well as for different age groups, by dividing the number of insurance claims by the number of members multiplied by 1,000. Risk Ratio (RR) was calculated between gender. Pearson's chi-squared test was used to analyse differences in distribution for categorical variables. Results: The majority of injuries affected females, correlating to approximately three times higher risk, compared to males. The age group 21–40 years were associated with the highest injury risk (14.26/1,000 registered riders). In total 12% of all injuries led to PMI. Injuries to the upper and lower extremities, along with fractures, had a higher risk of resulting in a PMI. The risk of injury leading to PMI was higher among riders over 20 years of age. This article from the Journal of Raptor Research examines orthopedic injuries in Andean Condors and their impact on their ability to walk and fly. The study presents four cases of leg injuries in condors from Chile, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Hereditary factor VII (FVII) deficiency is an uncommon autosomal recessive disorder associated with mutations in the F7 gene, and laboratory investigations usually reveal isolated prolongation in prothrombin time (PT)/international normalized ratio (INR). Venom-induced consumptive coagulopathy (VICC) is distinguished by the activation of the coagulation pathway, which is triggered by procoagulant toxins in snake venom. Diagnosing snakebites in patients with hereditary FVII deficiency presents a challenge because prolonged time PT/INR is considered the most valuable diagnostic method for VICC. Therefore, it is possible that certain patients may not promptly receive an accurate diagnosis of hereditary FVII deficiency. Soccer is considered the most popular sport in the world. The game involves frequent agile maneuvers, such as rapid accelerations/decelerations and pivoting, and carries an inherent risk of high-speed collisions, which can lead to lower extremity injury. Knee and meniscus injuries can cause significant pain and disability, precluding participation in the sport. Understanding the diagnosis and management of meniscal injuries in soccer players is essential to the care of these athletes. Instinctive response was produced for protecting drivers from injury when facing incoming collisions. This study investigated the influence of instinctive response on lower extremity and knee airbag parameters. The change of posture, musculoskeletal characteristic and vehicle control parameters resulting from instinctive response were introduced in injury analysis. The key parameters of knee airbag were optimized based on a multi-object optimization algorithm of response surface method and NSGA-II. Results showed that the increased influence of musculoskeletal characteristic happened when the emergency level varied little. Injury in some cases might increase resulting from the early contact between airbag and lower extremity. It decreased in different levels after the optimization of parameters, with maximum 20%. Introduction Sport and tactical populations are often impacted by musculoskeletal injury. Many publications have highlighted that risk is correlated with multiple variables. There do not appear to be existing studies that have evaluated a predetermined combination of risk factors that provide a pragmatic model for application in tactical and/or sports settings. Purpose To develop and test the predictive capability of multivariable risk models of lower extremity musculoskeletal injury during cadet basic training at the U.S.Military Academy. Materials and Methods Cadets from the class of 2022 served as the study population. Sex and injury history were collected by questionnaire. Body Mass Index (BMI) and aerobic fitness were calculated during testing in the first week of training. Movement screening was performed using the Landing Error Scoring System during week 1 and cadence was collected using an accelerometer worn throughout initial training. Kaplan–Meier survival curves estimated group differences in time to the first musculoskeletal injury during training. Cox regression was used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) was used to compare model fit. Results Cox modeling using HRs indicated that the following variables were associated with injury risk : Sex, history of injury, Landing Error Scoring System Score Category, and Physical Fitness Test (PT) Run Score. When controlling for sex and history of injury, amodel including aerobic fitness and BMI outperformed the model including movement screening risk and cadence (AIC: 1068.56 vs. 1074.11) and a model containing all variables that were significant in the univariable analysis was the most precise (AIC: 1063.68). Conclusions In addition to variables typically collected in this tactical setting (Injury History, BMI, and aerobic fitness), the inclusion of kinematic testing appears to enhance the precision of the risk identification model and will likely continue to be included in screening cadets at greater risk. Purpose: Vascular injuries are rarely associated with severe knee injuries; nonetheless, it is imperative to efficiently detect this condition and plan for either immediate or definitive treatment at later stages. The diagnosis and management of multiligament knee injuries still present unresolved issues, particularly in the early detection of vascular issues and the sequential stabilisation of ligaments. High-energy trauma is a frequently encountered cause, however, even low-energy trauma in those who are morbidly obese might pose a significant risk. Advancements in detection and management methods have greatly decreased the occurrence of vascular complications and amputation rates over time. MLKIs after transient knee dislocations are frequently misdiagnosed for vascular injuries, underscoring the necessity for improved diagnostic techniques to avoid avoidable amputations. Methods: This article is a new conceptual review of vascular injuries associated with MLKIs. It provides a full overview of these conditions and includes a review of the most recent literature. We have included pertinent citations from the literature, together with suggestions derived from the latest studies. This review article had additional evaluation by proficient specialists with commendable outcomes and more than a decade of expertise in surgical techniques. Results: This article offers a detailed overview of orthopaedic management, including new definitions and summaries of the causes, evaluation of patients, clinical assessment, identification of vascular injuries, and initial management in patients with vascular impairment following major limb and joint injuries (MLKIs). Conclusion: MLKIs (patients with lower limb ischaemia) who have vascular damage necessitate meticulous physical assessment and sophisticated treatments in order to decrease amputation rates. Prompt identification and timely treatment of vascular lesions, namely in the popliteal artery, can substantially reduce the occurrence of amputations. Emerging research suggests that there is a heightened risk in low-energy situations, particularly amongst individuals who are extremely obese. Progress in vascular intervention has led to a reduction in amputation rates, whilst the implementation of new guidelines has enhanced identification. Marching band is both a sport and a performance art. Organized athletics like American football, soccer, and cheerleading all have established epidemiologic trends of injury, including stigmata from head trauma. Despite the potential for mild to severe injury, there is a paucity of data on marching band-related morbidity. We examined the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System from 2012 to 2021 to describe demographic information and injury patterns. There were an estimated 20 335 marching band injuries (95% confidence interval: 12 892-27 777). The majority of injuries occurred in females (70%), and those aged 14 to 18 years (85%). Fifty percent of all injuries occurred in the lower extremity, and soft tissue injuries were the most frequently observed diagnosis (49%). Mild traumatic brain injury accounted for 6% of all injuries. Of marching band injury, 98% did not require escalation of care. This study assessed the impact of integrated neuromuscular training (INT) on athletes' jumping performance and lower limb injury prevention. A thorough search across multiple databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Science Direct, and the Cochrane Library, identified a sample of 19,805 athletes aged between 8.5 and 27.7 years. Results showed that INT led to a significant improvement in jumping ability (SMD = 0.45, 95% CI 0.30–0.60, P = 0.000) and a reduction in lower limb injuries (SMD = 0.68, 95% CI 0.62–0.74, P = 0.000). The most effective interventions lasted at least 25 minutes, conducted 2-5 times per week, for a minimum of 9 weeks. Here, we report about a patient with a full-thickness burn injury of the left lower extremity with approximately 8% of total BSA affected. Initial therapy consisted of necrosectomy and wound coverage with split-thickness graft. The patient developed a wound infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa , resulting in the failure of the skin graft to achieve complete healing. The case was further complicated by the patient's concurrent presentation of anemia, characterized by a hematocrit level of 19.8% on 11th day after admission. Additionally, the patient refused acceptance of any blood transfusion, adding a significant layer of complexity to the management strategy. In summary, the patient's critical state required an immediate intervention. Due to the contraindication for a further surgical debridement and autograft, we changed the treatment strategy to a conservative approach. First, the wound was debrided employing maggot therapy 17 days after admission. Subsequently, free soft tissue coverage was accomplished using decellularized fish skin dressings on 45th day. This approach yielded satisfactory wound closure. High vertical ground reaction forces (VGRF) during landings following acrobatic elements in artistic gymnastics is associated with trunk and lower extremity injury risk. As similar data regarding injury risk factors in cheerleading are scarce, the purpose of this study was to assess VGRF in pop-off dismounts of rested and fatigued flyers in cheerleaders. Fifteen German cheerleaders were recruited for this study, including seven female flyers and eight male bases. It was expected that performance would change in fatiguing athletes, potentially increasing the risk for injuries. However, neither the mean VGRF (rested: 6.0 ± 1.9BW, fatigued: 6.2 ± 1.3 BW, overall range: 2.1-14.9 BW) nor the individual VGRF-time courses of the flyers changed significantly after the workout. Background: Ultimate Frisbee (Ultimate) has gained significant popularity. However, a comprehensive understanding of injury characteristics, including sex differences in injury location and onset, remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the injury profile of male and female athletes using data from the Japanese University Athletic Association survey. Methods: Data were collected through a web-based survey conducted between June and October 2022, focusing on injuries sustained within the past year. Athletes provided detailed information, including injury location, severity, and onset pattern. This study utilized data collected through the UNIVAS survey, offering insights into the injury landscape among female Ultimate athletes. The study examined factors influencing lower limb injuries, including training days and the nature of contact during play. Results: A total of 116 athletes participated in the survey with 57 (49.1%) reporting injuries, of which 42 injuries involved the lower limbs. Lower-extremity injuries exhibited a higher likelihood of occurrence in female compared to male athletes (p = 0.05, φ = 0.18). Athletes with lower limb injuries demonstrated significantly more training days (p = 0.01, Cohen's d = 0.76). Non-contact injuries were more prevalent than contact injuries (p < 0.01, φ = 0.53), with non-contact injuries often causing prolonged interruptions in competition. Conclusions: Female Ultimate athletes experienced a high frequency of severe lower extremity injuries, particularly those stemming from non-contact incidents. Background: Patients with lower extremity burn injuries have decreased gait function. Gait dysfunctions are compensated by activation of executive areas such as the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Although robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) can improve gait function, the training mechanisms of RAGT are unknown. We aimed to determine the clinical effects of RAGT in patients with burns and investigate their underlying mechanisms. Methods: This single-blind, randomized controlled trial involved 54 patients with lower extremity burns. The RAGT group underwent RAGT using SUBAR® and conventional training. The control (CON) group underwent only conventional training. The primary outcome was cortical activity measured using a functional near-infrared spectroscopy device before and after 8 weeks of training to confirm the compensatory effect of gait dysfunction. The secondary outcomes were the functional ambulation category (FAC) to evaluate gait performance, 6-min walking test (6 MWT) distance to measure gait speed, isometric force and range of motion (ROM) of lower extremities to evaluate physical function, and the visual analog scale (VAS) score to evaluate subjective pain during gait. Results: PFC activation during the gait phase in the RAGT group decreased significantly compared with that of the CON. The VAS score decreased and FAC score improved after 8 weeks of training in both groups. The 6 MWT scores, isometric strengths (the left knee flexor and bilateral ankle plantar flexors), and the ROMs (the extensions of bilateral hip and bilateral knee) of the RAGT group were significantly improved compared with those of the CON. RAGT improved gait speed, lower extremity ROMs, and lower extremity muscles strengths in patients with burns. Conclusions: The improvement in gait speed and cerebral blood flow evaluation results suggests that the automatization of gait is related to the treatment mechanism during RAGT. Aim: This study aimed to examine the clinical outcomes of patients presenting with gunshot wounds who were hospitalized in the orthopedic clinic in the last five years. Material and Method: The study is a retrospective study with 41 patients. Gender, age, length of hospitalization, injured extremities and regions, presence of fractures and distribution of fractured bones, need for surgery, need for other specialties, distribution of different specialties, additional injuries and complications, and their distribution were investigated. Results: The mean age of the patients was 39.76±12.77. 92.70% (n=38) of the patients were male, and 7.30% (n=3) were female. The mean duration of hospitalization among the patients was 5.68±3.38 days. It was observed that 80.50% (n=33) of the patients had the most injuries in the lower extremities. 70.70% (n=29) of the patients had a fracture accompanying the firearm injury. The femur was the most commonly fractured bone. Surgery was required in 82.90% (n=34) of the patients. 53.70% (n=22) of the patients had additional injuries and complications. Conclusion: Firearm injuries are an increasingly frequent and severe orthopedic injury, especially with the increase in individual armament. To assess the effectiveness of exercise-based injury-prevention programs in preventing sports injuries in team handball players. Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, and CINAHL from inception until April 2023. Studies were included if they were randomized controlled trials or prospective cohort studies, contained a population of competitive team handball players, included an intervention designed specifically to prevent or reduce the risk of team handball injuries, and reported injury incidence rates specific to team handball players. Two researchers independently evaluated studies for inclusion and assessed their methodological quality. Study design, intervention details, participant characteristics, and the number of injuries in each group were extracted from each study by 2 independent researchers. The outcome of interest was the incidence rate of injury. Injury data were classified into 5 groups: shoulder injuries, lower extremity injuries, knee injuries, anterior cruciate ligament injuries, and ankle injuries. Extracted data were analyzed using a random-effects model to compute the overall effect estimates of injury-prevention programs in reducing the risk of injuries. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% CIs were calculated based on the number of injuries in each group. Meta-analyses were conducted independently for each injury classification. Results indicated that prevention programs reduced the risk of shoulder injuries (OR = 0.60; 95% CI = 0.42, 0.85; P =.004), lower extremity injuries (OR = 0.59; 95% CI = 0.37, 0.95; P =.03), knee injuries (OR = 0.53; 95% CI = 0.35, 0.78; P =.002), anterior cruciate ligament injuries (OR = 0.66; 95% CI = 0.45, 0.96; P =.03), and ankle injuries (OR = 0.57; 95% CI = 0.40, 0.81; P =.002) in team handball players. Objective: To determine the match injury incidence for a New Zealand amateur domestic female soccer team over two consecutive seasons. Methods: A descriptive, epidemiological observational study was conducted to determine match injury incidence for 49 players over two domestic seasons. Match exposure and injury burden were calculated. Results: A total of 84 match-related injuries resulted in a match injury incidence of 145.5 (95% confidence interval (CI): 117.4 to 180.1) per 1000 match h. Attackers had a higher incidence of injuries for total (200.0 per 1000 match h) and missed matches (152.4 per 1000 match h). The lower limbs had the highest injury incidence (105.6 per 1000 match h), with ankle injury being the most reported (43.3 per 1000 match h) lower limb injury. Over three quarters (75.3%) of the injuries recorded were missed match injuries. Sprains/strains were the most recorded total (86.6 per 1000 match h) injury type. Fractures were recorded as having the highest mean injury burden (68.7 ± 70.4 days). Discussion: Historically, there was a paucity of injury burden data for female football; however, the data presented within this study can be utilised to support the identification of injury patterns and areas to be included within injury reduction programmes. Introduction: Orthopedic injuries to the foot constitute a significant portion of lower extremity injuries, necessitating an understanding of trends for effective preventive strategies and resource allocation. Demographic shifts, improved traffic safety, and lifelong physical activity may alter incidence rates, trauma mechanisms, and fracture distribution. This study explores the prevalence of foot fractures in Sweden using publicly available data. Methods: Utilizing data from the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare (SNBHW) spanning 2008–2022, retrospective study focuses on foot fractures in Sweden. Analysis includes calculating annual incidence rates per 100,000 person-years, assessing temporal trends, and exploring seasonal variations. Poisson regression analysis was used for projections into 2035. Results: Between 2008–2022, the average annual foot fracture incidence was 11,942, with notable fluctuations influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Age and sex disparities impact rates, and seasonal variance highlights increased incidence in summer. By 2035, foot fractures will decreasae amongst several demographic groups. Conclusion: This study provides insights into temporal trends, sex differences, and seasonal variations foot fracture patterns in Sweden. The identified trends suggest the utilization of targeted preventive strategies, efficient resource allocation, and informed healthcare planning. Introduction: Many military service members and civilians suffer from lower extremity trauma. Despite recent advancements in lower limb bracing technology, it remains unclear whether these newer advanced braces offer improved comfort and functionality compared to conventional options. The IDEO (Intrepid Dynamic Exoskeletal Orthosis), a type of "advanced" orthosis was developed to assist in maintaining high functional performance in patients who have experienced high-energy lower extremity trauma and underwent limb salvage surgeries. Methods: A cross-sector multi-site initiative was completed to study the efficacy of advanced ankle foot orthoses (AFO) for lower limb trauma and injury compared to a conventional AFO. Following fitting, training, and accommodation, the subjects were assessed in each AFO system for mobility, self-reported function, safety and pain, and preference. Results: They preferred the advanced over the conventional AFO and the mobility and exertion perception improved with the advanced AFO with no difference in pain or overall health status scores. Discussion: Thus, an advanced AFO is an option for trauma affecting the lower limb. Purpose: Major orthopedic surgeries of the lower extremities, which heavily injure the metaphyseal region, are strongly associated with the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This study aims to investigate the role of metaphyseal trauma as an independent risk factor for DVT. Methods: Patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery of the hip and knee had their existing DVT risk factors recorded. Metaphyseal trauma was defined by the extent of bone injury during these surgeries. The samples were categorized into three surgery groups: total arthroplasty group (TA), hemiarthroplasty group (HA), and the open reduction internal fixation group (ORIF). Logistic regression test between significant existing risk factors and surgery groups determines the independent association between risk factors and DVT. Result: The study found a 24.8% incidence of asymptomatic DVT in patients undergoing major orthopedic surgeries, with the highest prevalence (37.2%) in TA, which had the largest extent of metaphyseal trauma and the least existing DVT risk factors. TA showed 6.2 OR and 95% CI (p = 0.036) compared to the other existing risk factor in relation to DVT incidence. Purpose: This study investigates baseline patient demographics and predictors of vascular injury, blood transfusion, and compartment syndrome in patients with orthopaedic fractures secondary to GSWs at two high-volume Level I trauma centres. Methods: A retrospective chart review of all GSW-related trauma patients at two Level I trauma centres between July 2019 and September 2021 was conducted. Chi-squared and two-tailed independent t tests were used for data analysis, and logistic regression with odds ratios (OR) determined predictors of primary outcomes. Results: Among 478 GSW patients, 94 (19.7%) sustained 130 orthopaedic fractures, most commonly at the lower extremity (77.7%). Orthopaedic fracture patients showed significantly higher rates of vascular injury (29.8 vs. 4.7%, p < 0.001), transfusion (27.7 vs. 12.8%, p = 0.006), and compartment syndrome (3.2 vs. 0.3%, p = 0.011) compared to non-orthopaedic injury patients. Univariable analysis identified ankle (OR = 47.50, p < 0.001) and hip/femur fractures (OR = 5.31, p < 0.001) as predictors of vascular injury. Multivariable logistic regression revealed lower extremity vascular injury (OR = 54.69, p = 0.006) and anatomic fracture sites of the humerus (OR = 15.17, p = 0.008), clavicle/scapula (OR = 11.30, p = 0.009), and acetabulum/pelvis (OR = 7.17, p = 0.025) as predictors of blood transfusion. Univariable analysis showed lower extremity vascular injury (OR = 30.14, p = 0.007) as a predictor of compartment syndrome. Conclusion: These findings underscore the importance of diagnosing and managing vascular injuries and compartment syndrome in GSW-related orthopaedic fractures, emphasizing the necessity for targeted transfusion strategies in such cases. Objectives: The orientation of the quadriceps femoris can be represented by the quadriceps angle (Q‐angle) has not yet been approved because of the high incidence of patellar instability. In this study, the correlations among components of the quadriceps femoris and the Q‐angle using the plain radiographic technique were assessed. This retrospective study aims to use the radiographic technique to clarify these doubts from anatomic viewpoints. Methods: One hundred consecutive young adult patients (50 men and 50 women; aged, 34 ± 5 and 33 ± 6 years, respectively) who sustained chronic unilateral lower extremity injuries (unilateral femoral, tibial nonunions or malunions) were enrolled. The contralateral intact lower extremity was used for the study. The full‐length standing scanogram (FLSS) was used to evaluate the rectus Q‐angle (R‐Q angle), vastus Q‐angle (V‐Q angle), and clinical Q‐angle (C‐Q angle; i.e., known as the Q‐angle). The three Q‐angles were compared statistically. The Mann–Whitney U test and the Kruskal–Wallis test were used for comparison among groups. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the degree of relationship between two groups. Results: The C‐Q angle or the V‐Q angle was statistically different from the R‐Q angle (p < 0.001). The C‐Q angle between sexes was not different (p = 0.25). High correlation occurred among the C‐Q angle, the R‐Q angle, and the V‐Q angles (correlation coefficient, 0.886–0.979). The multiple linear regression revealed of C‐Q angle = 0.72; R‐Q angle, p < 0.001 + 0.21; and V‐Q angle, (p = 0.009) + 2.61° in 100 patients. Conclusion: Orientation of the quadriceps femoris can be represented by the Q‐angle. Injury surveillance data indicate that collegiate athletes are at greater risk for lower extremity (LE) injuries following sports‐related concussion (SRC). While the association between SRC and LE injury appears to be clinically relevant up to 1‐year post‐SRC, little evidence has been provided to determine possible mechanistic rationales. Thus, we aimed to compare collegiate athletes with a history of SRC to matched controls on biomechanical and cognitive performance measures associated with LE injury risk. Athletes with a history of SRC (n = 20) and matched controls (n = 20) performed unanticipated bilateral land‐and‐cut tasks and cognitive assessments. Group‐based analyses (ANOVA) and predictive modeling (C5.0 decision tree algorithm) were used to compare group differences on biomechanical and cognitive measures. Collegiate athletes with a history of SRC demonstrated approximately six degrees less peak knee flexion on both dominant (p = 0.03, d = 0.71) and nondominant (p = 0.02, d = 0.78) limbs during the land‐and‐cut tasks compared to controls. Verbal Memory, knee flexion, and Go/No Go total score (C5.0 decision tree algorithm) were identified as the strongest indicators of previous SRC injury history. Reduced knee flexion during sport‐specific land‐and‐cut tasks may be a mechanism for increased LE injury risk in athletes with a history of SRC. There appears to be multiple biomechanical and cognitive predictors for identifying previous SRC in collegiate athletes, providing evidence to support a multifactorial SRC management strategy to reduce future injury risk. Introduction The aims of this project were to assess (1) the prevalence and timing of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) after a traumatic lower limb injury, (2) the risk of PTOA based on injury type, and (3) the association of PTOA with psychological health and quality of life (QoL). Materials and Methods The Wounded Warrior Recovery Project (WWRP) database and the Expeditionary Medical Encounters Dataset were queried to identify service members injured during deployment. The Military Health System Data Repository was utilized to extract medical record data to identify individuals with PTOA. Data on PTSD, depression symptoms, and QoL were extracted from the WWRP. Results Of the 2,061 WWRP participants with lower limb injuries, 124 (6%) were diagnosed with PTOA, with first PTOA diagnosis occurring 3.8 ± 3.1 years after injury. Of the injury categories identified, only fractures were associated with high odds of lower limb PTOA (adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 3.92, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.38, 6.44). Individuals with PTOA diagnoses reported lower QoL scores relative to those without PTOA (F (1,2057) = 14.21, B  = −0.05, P  < .05). Additionally, rates of PTSD and depression symptoms were high but not different between those with or without PTOA. Conclusions Despite a low prevalence of lower limb PTOA in our study, fractures increased the risk of PTOA after deployment-related injuries. Additionally, those with PTOA reported lower QoL scores relative to those without PTOA. Biological measurements that predict injury risk are crucial diagnostic tools. Yet, research on improving diagnostic accuracy in detecting accidents is insufficient. Combining multiple predictors and assessing them via ROC curves can enhance this accuracy. This study aimed to (1) evaluate the importance of lower limb muscle mass asymmetry and body composition (BMI and FMI) as predictors of injuries, (2) explore the role of the most effective body composition index in the relationship between muscle asymmetry and injury, and (3) assess the prognostic potential of combined predictors. Cross-sectional sampling was used to select students from a university. The sample included 237 physically active young adults (44% males). The independent variables were inter-limb muscle mass asymmetry (absolute asymmetry, AA), BMI, and FMI; the dependent variable was the number of injuries in the past year. Using zero-inflated Poisson regression, we examined the relationships, including a moderation analysis (moderated multiple ZIP regression). The mediation by body composition was tested using ZIP and logistic regression. The predictive power was assessed via ROC curves. The significance level was set at an α-value of 0.05. No significant difference in injury incidence between males and females was found (χ2 = 2.12, p = 0.145), though the injury types varied. Males had more muscle strains, while females had more bone fractures (χ2 = 6.02, p = 0.014). In males, the inter-limb asymmetry and FMI predicted injuries; in females, the BMI and FMI did, but not asymmetry. No moderating or mediating effects of body composition were found. In males, combined asymmetry and the FMI better predicted injuries (AUC = 0.686) than separate predictors (AA: AUC = 0.650, FMI: AUC = 0.458). For females, the FMI was the best predictor (AUC = 0.662). The most predictive factors for injuries in males were both muscle asymmetry and the FMI (as combined predictors), while in females, it was the single FMI. The hypothesis regarding the mediating role of body composition indicators was rejected, as no moderation or mediation by the FMI was detected in the relationship between absolute asymmetry (AA) and injuries. For clinical practice, the findings suggest that practitioners should incorporate assessments of both muscle asymmetry and body composition into routine screenings for physically active individuals. Identifying those with both high asymmetry and an elevated FMI can help target preventative interventions more effectively. Tailored strength training and conditioning programs aimed at reducing asymmetry and managing body composition may reduce the risk of injury, particularly in populations identified as high-risk. Introduction: Volleyball is a dynamic sport that places high demands on an athlete’s ability to move quickly and efficiently. Kettlebell training utilises a unique offset weight, challenging core stability, and multijoint coordination, potentially mimicking movements in volleyball. Plyometric training, on the other hand, focuses on rapid muscle contractions to develop power. Despite their popularity, limited research directly compares the effectiveness of these methods for enhancing the skills crucial for volleyball players. Need of the study: Lower limb injuries are common in volleyball players, and improving agility and balance can help in reducing the risk of these injuries. The purpose of the research is to bridge this information disparity by investigating the effects of both kettlebell training and plyometric training. By analysing the results, the authors can gain valuable insights into how each training approach influences these fundamental movement skills. This knowledge can ultimately help in the development of targeted training programs specifically designed to enhance performance and training strategies for volleyball athletes. Aim: To assess the subjects’ agility, static balance, and dynamic balance in volleyball players treated with kettlebell training and plyometric training. Materials and Methods: This two-arm parallel randomised experimental study will be conducted at the Department of Sports Physiotherapy of Ravi Nair Physiotherapy College, Wardha, Maharashtra, India, from July 2023 to July 2024. A total of 50 participants will be assigned to 2 groups, with one group receiving kettlebell training (Group-A) and the other group receiving plyometric training (Group-B). Assessments will be conducted on the first day of intervention and at the end of the sixth week of treatment, respectively. To evaluate the inequality in effect size between the groups, statistical significance will be assessed using either a parametric test or non parametric test at a 5% level of significance. For normally distributed values, a t-test (Unpaired) will be used and for non normally distributed data, non-parametric tests (Chi-square, Mann-Whitney U, and Wilcoxon’s test) will be utilised. Athletes with a history of concussion are at a greater risk for lower extremity musculoskeletal injury. Female athletes may be at an even greater risk than male athletes. Previous researchers on postconcussion landing biomechanics have focused on the lower extremities, but the trunk plays a crucial role as an injury risk factor. To compare lower extremity and trunk biomechanics during jump-landing and cutting maneuvers between female athletes with and those without a concussion history. Cross-sectional study. Biomechanics laboratory. A total of 26 athletes (mean ± SD age = 19.0 ± 1.3 years, height = 1.68 ± 0.07 m, mass = 64.02 ± 6.76 kg, body mass index = 22.58 ± 1.97 kg/m2; median [interquartile range] time since most recent concussion = 37.5 months [25.0 months, 65.8 months]) with a concussion history and 38 athletes (age = 19.0 ± 1.1 years, height = 1.71 ± 0.08 m, mass = 64.72 ± 9.45 kg, body mass index = 22.14 ± 1.80 kg/m2) without a concussion history. Peak kinetics (vertical ground reaction force, vertical loading rate, external knee-abduction moment, and external knee-flexion moment) and kinematics (trunk-flexion angle, trunk lateral-bending angle, ankle-dorsiflexion angle, knee-flexion angle, knee-abduction angle, and hip-flexion angle) were obtained during the eccentric portion of jump-landing and cutting tasks. Separate 2 (group) × 2 (limb) between- and within-factors analyses of covariance were used to compare outcomes between groups. We covaried for time since the most recent concussion and the limb that had a history of musculoskeletal injury. Athletes with a concussion history displayed a greater peak knee-abduction angle in their nondominant limb than their dominant limb (P =.01, ηp2 = 0.107) and the nondominant limb of athletes without a concussion history (P =.02, ηp2 = 0.083) during jump landing. They also had less trunk lateral bending during cutting compared with athletes without a concussion history (P =.005, ηp2 = 0.126). Our results indicated landing biomechanics are different between female athletes with and those without a concussion history. This finding may be due to impairments in neuromuscular control postconcussion that may ultimately increase the risk of subsequent lower extremity injury, although further research is warranted given the cross-sectional nature of our study. Gymnastics has the highest injury rate of all women's collegiate sports, most occurring to the lower extremity. Preventative training programs (PTPs) effectively reduce lower-extremity injury rates. This study aimed to determine the perceptions and beliefs of female collegiate gymnasts regarding PTPs. Participants reported that they would be more likely to participate in a PTP if it resulted in fewer injury risk factors (p <.001), less likely to suffer an anterior cruciate ligament injury (p <.001), and fewer leg injuries (p <.001). This study aims to systematically identify studies that evaluate lower extremity burn injury in the diabetic population, evaluate their clinical course and patient outcomes, and present a treatment algorithm tailored to diabetic burn patients. Our systematic review of the PubMed and Web of Science databases yielded 429 unique articles. After exclusion and inclusion criteria were applied, 59 articles were selected for evaluation. In diabetic patients, the thermal injury was largely a result of decreased awareness and education regarding heat therapies in the context of peripheral neuropathy. All noncase studies found that metrics such as hospital length of stay, ICU admission rates, rates of comorbidity, complication rates, scald injuries, infection rates, and cost of treatment were significantly increased in the diabetic burn population as compared to their nondiabetic counterparts. Where infection was present, microorganisms colonizing diabetic burn wounds were different than those found in the burn wounds of immunocompetent individuals. Operative intervention including split-skin graft, amputation, and debridement were more often utilized in diabetic burn patients. Foot burns in diabetic patients pose unique clinical risks to patients, and as such need to be an alternate treatment protocol to reflect their pathology. Education and training programs are crucial in the prevention of diabetic foot burns to avoid complications, protracted healing, and adverse outcomes. Context: Measures of side-to-side asymmetry in body composition may help identify players who are predisposed to lower limb injuries (LLI) or lower back pain (LBP). This study aimed to examine (1) side-to-side asymmetry in college rugby players according to sex and position and (2) whether side-to-side asymmetry is associated with LBP or LLI. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Thirty-six rugby players (61% female) underwent a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry assessment for total and regional (appendicular, truncal) outcomes of fat mass, lean mass, and bone mass. A subsample (n = 23) of players had a second dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry assessment 2 months postbaseline. Two-way analysis of variance was used to assess the effect of position (forward and backs) and sex on body composition asymmetry. Student paired t tests were used to assess side-to-side difference in body composition and compare baseline and follow-up measures. Logistic regression was used to assess possible associations between LLI, LBP, and the degree of side-to-side asymmetry in body composition. Results: Male players had greater asymmetry in arm bone mass compared with female players (P = .026), and trunk fat mass asymmetry was greater in forwards as compared with backs (P = .017). Forwards had significantly greater fat mass (P = .004) and percentage of fat (P = .048) on the right leg compared with the left. Backs had significantly greater bone mass in the right arm compared with the left (P = .015). From baseline to postseason, forwards had a significant increase in side-to-side asymmetry in arm lean mass (P = .006) and a significant decrease in side-to-side asymmetry in leg fat mass (P = .032). In backs, side-to-side asymmetry at baseline compared with postseason was significantly different (P = .011) for trunk fat mass. There were no significant associations between body composition asymmetry, LLI, or LBP by sex or position. Conclusion: Our results revealed the presence of side-to-side asymmetries in body composition in university rugby players between sex and position. The rehabilitation of patients after lower extremity injuries is focused on creating conditions for active participation in daily life by influencing their motor, mental and social skills. The aim is to analyze the recovery process in patients after lower limb injuries with impaired locomotor activity, which determines their social functioning. A survey was conducted among patients with impaired locomotor activity, which included five groups of questions assessed on a four-point scale. The ability to locomote in the environment, carrying out activities of daily life, emotional state and their social functioning are explored. 37 patients aged 18 to 88, divided into four groups by age and gender were included in the survey on a voluntary basis. After rehabilitation courses, at the end of the observed period, a significant improvement was noticed in the ability to walk without the use of aids on flat terrain, on stairs and outside the home. A maximal functional recovery was observed for carrying out the activities of daily life related to self-care as a result of improving the ability to locomote in the environment. Questions related to communication in a family and close friendship environment for all groups of respondents showed higher values, both at baseline (1,3 – 2,25) and at the end of the follow-up (2,43 – 3). Patients of all groups experience the greatest difficulty when it is necessary to use public transport. As a result of the rehabilitation, walking without aids is restored and the state of anxiety is overcome almost to degree 2,5. Despite the fact that the rehabilitation process is slow and prolonged, the results give reason to assume that the efforts of the multidisciplinary team lead to overcoming the negative aspects in the social functioning of patients after lower limb injury. Background Reduced dorsiflexion range of motion (DFROM) which is commonly seen following lateral ankle sprain (LAS) has the potential to influence lower extremity biomechanics which have been linked to increased injury risk in the female athlete. Current research on the effect of sex and LAS history on DFROM is limited. Hypothesis/Purpose This study had three aims 1) to determine the effect of sex, leg dominance and LAS history on DFROM, 2) to determine the effect of sex and LAS history on magnitude of DFROM symmetry and 3) to examine the association of sex on direction (whether dominant or non-dominant limb had the higher DFROM) of symmetry. Study Design Cross-Sectional Study Methods DFROM was measured bilaterally in 105 recreational athletes all participating in multidirectional sports using the tape measurement method during the weight bearing lunge test (WBLT). A mean of three measurements was used for analysis. A 3-way mixed ANOVA was carried out to determine the interaction between sex, LAS history and leg dominance on DFROM and a 2-way ANOVA for the effect of sex and LAS history on asymmetry. A chi-square test was used to determine the association of sex and direction of asymmetry. Results The results indicate no significant effect of sex, LAS history, and leg dominance on DFROM (p=0.65). Main effects were significant for sex and LAS on DFROM. The mean asymmetry for all participants was reported as 12.25±14.76cm. No significant effect of sex and LAS history on magnitude of asymmetry was reported. There was a significant association of sex and direction of asymmetry (χ²(1) = 11.26, p = 0.00). Sixty-five-point two percent of males were shown to have higher DFROM of their non-dominant limb compared to 75% of females who were higher in their dominant limb. Conclusion Findings from this study suggest that DFROM is affected by sex and LAS history. While females have increased DFROM compared to males, those with LAS history are more likely to have a decreased DFROM on the involved side. The results also indicate that interlimb asymmetries in DFROM are present in athletes, therefore practitioners should exercise caution when using bilateral comparisons in injury and return to play assessments. Sports-related concussion (SRC) in adolescent athletes is associated with an increased risk of subsequent lower extremity injury. Neuromuscular training (NMT) has shown promise for reducing lower extremity injuries following SRC, however, neural adaptations in response to changes in lower extremity biomechanics following NMT in athletes with a history of SRC (HxSRC) remains poorly understood. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify changes in neural activity associated with lower extremity movement adaptations following a six-week NMT intervention in athletes with a HxSRC. Thirty-two right-hand/foot-dominant female adolescent athletes (16 with self-reported HxSRC, 16 age- and anthropometrically-matched controls) completed a bilateral leg press task with 3D motion analysis during functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Movement adaptations were defined as a change in frontal and sagittal plane range of motion (ROM) during the fMRI bilateral leg press task. Significant pre- to post-NMT reductions were observed in the non-dominant (left) mean frontal plane ROM. Whole-brain neural correlate analysis revealed that increased cerebellar activity was significantly associated with reduced mean left-knee frontal ROM for matched controls. Exploratory within group analyses identified neural correlates in the postcentral gyrus for the HxSRC group which was associated with reduced mean left-knee frontal plane ROM. These distinct longitudinal changes provide preliminary evidence of differential neural activity associated with NMT to support knee frontal plane control in athletes with and without a HxSRC. The use of crutches is a common method of assisting people during recovery from musculoskeletal injuries in the lower limbs. There are several different ways to walk with crutches depending on the patient's needs. The structure of crutch gaits or crutch gait patterns varies based on the delay between the aid and foot placement, the number of concurrent points of contact, and laterality. In a rehabilitation process, the prescribed pattern may differ according to the injury, the treatment and the individual's condition. Clinicians may improve diagnosis, assessment, training, and treatment by monitoring and analyzing gait patterns. This study aimed to assess and characterize four crutch walking patterns using spatial and temporal parameters obtained from the instrumented crutches. For this purpose, 27 healthy users performed four different gait patterns over multiple trials. Each trial was recorded using a portable system integrated into the crutches, which measured force, position, and acceleration. Based on the data angle, an algorithm was developed to segment the trials into gait cycles and identify gait phases. The next step was to determine the most appropriate metrics to describe each gait pattern. Several metrics were used to analyze the collected data, including force, acceleration, angle, and stride time. Among 27 participants, significant differences were found between crutch gait patterns. Through the use of these spatial and temporal parameters, promising results were obtained for monitoring assisted gait with crutches.
