In this study, an efficient method of lead recovery from lead sulfate in spent lead-acid batteries assisted by ultrasonic is developed using the citric acid–sodium citrate solution. Ultrasonic-assisted technology is employed to enhance the kinetics of lead sulfate leaching. Initially, the predominance area of the lead citrate complexes was analyzed. The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of ultrasonic-assisted technology on the kinetic behavior of lead sulfate within the citric acid–sodium citrate solution, thereby unveiling the differences between ultrasonic-assisted leaching and the non-ultrasonic-assisted leaching. Kinetic study indicated that the employment of ultrasonic-assisted technology could effectively reduce the apparent activation energy during the desulfurization process, decreasing the energy initially required from 43.27 kJ/mol to 35.15 kJ/mol. Furthermore, the ultrasonic-assisted leaching led to successful preparation of lead citrate precursor, characterized by a smaller particle size and larger specific surface area. Systematic investigations were performed on the thermal decomposition process of these precursors and the effects of calcination temperature and holding time on the properties of calcination products. It was revealed that pure porous lead oxide powder with a purity of 99.9% could be produced successfully under the conditions of calcination temperature at 350°C and holding time of 1 h. Additives are very important to enhance the performance of lead-acid batteries. In this paper, formic acid is used as an electrolyte additive to study its effect on battery performance. The results show formic acid has an opposite effect on the electrochemical properties of pure lead at positive and negative potentials. Besides, formic acid can make more active materials participate in the reaction, increase the rate of conversion of lead to lead sulfate, and reduce the internal resistance of the battery. Moreover, formic acid batteries exhibit better rate performance and higher specific discharge capacity than the blank. Especially, when the 0.5 wt% formic acid is used, the discharge capacity can reach 87.0 mAh g−1 when it is discharged at 400 mA g−1. After 1200 cycles of charge and discharge at a current density of 100 mA g−1, the specific discharge capacity is still 68.1 mAh g−1, which is 1.42 times higher than that of blank cells. The electrochemically active lead dioxide (β-PbO2) contains the hydrogen (H) species inside the bulk and on the surface. The loss of the surface H species is proposed to be one of the factors in lead-acid battery failure. In this study, water adsorption on β-PbO2 has been investigated using theoretical approaches to reveal the chemical forms of the surface H species and identify a probable cause of H loss mechanisms. For the single water–β-PbO2, density functional theory (DFT) calculations present intact water molecular adsorption on β-PbO2 (100) and dissociative water adsorption on β-PbO2 (110), (101), and (001) surfaces. The geometric distances and the number of hydrogen bonds contribute to the adsorption energy reduction of single water adsorption. For the liquid water–β-PbO2 slab models, DFT-based molecular dynamics simulations observe that the surface lead sites are fully occupied by a hydroxyl group or intact water molecule, and some of the surface oxygens are protonated at 300 K. On the β-PbO2 (110) termination, dissociative water adsorption and intact molecular water adsorption occur competitively, leading to about 50% dissociation of adsorbed water molecules. On the β-PbO2 (100), (101), and (001) terminations, the water molecules adsorb preferably in the dissociative form. The surface dependence of water dissociation is explored in terms of hydrogen bonding interactions relevant to adsorbed aqueous species. It is indicated through the Wulff crystal shape that the increase in the β-PbO2 crystallite size may be one of the H loss mechanisms associated with the electrochemically inactive β-PbO2. Background: Lead, a potent neurotoxin, causes irreversible damage to the nervous system, and low- and middle-income countries face huge health and economic productivity losses due to childhood lead exposure. In Bangladesh, informal Used Lead Acid Battery (ULAB) recycling sites are an important source of lead pollution. Little is known about lead awareness among communities exposed to ULAB recycling. Therefore, this study aims to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to lead pollution among caregivers of young children and adolescents living adjacent to informal ULAB sites. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 732 mothers of young children and adolescents in 4 districts of Bangladesh (survey and observation). Simple and multiple linear regression was conducted to describe patterns and predictors of lead-related knowledge and practices. Results: 60% of respondents had heard the name 'lead' ("shisha"). The mean knowledge score was low (19 out of 44). Residents of high-risk districts, male respondents, and those with more than 5 years of schooling were significantly more likely to have higher knowledge scores than others. In terms of attitude, 52% of respondents perceived lead to be risky for human health but 43% thought lead pollution was controllable. Observation of households for lead exposure revealed that 63% of children and adolescents play or pass by ULAB sites, 29% ate non-food items, 41% of households had visible paint chips on the walls, 59% households used polished turmeric and 15% used lead-soldered cans to store foods. Among protective practices, 70% reported cleaning floors, 84% consumed iron-rich foods, and 48% consumed calcium-rich foods. Conclusions: The population had a high potential for lead exposure. Their knowledge about lead was limited, and risk perception was moderate. To reduce lead exposure and increase knowledge and awareness among the at-risk population, it is crucial to take measures such as mass awareness campaigns through media and schools. It is important to strengthen the implementation of existing policies, such as policies on leaded gasoline, paints, and lead-acid batteries, that can address the sources of lead exposure for the community. Anthropogenic activities predominantly affect environmental Pb pollution, especially during waste lead-acid battery (LAB) recycling operations. In this study, the presence of Pb and nine other potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in the soil at an abandoned LAB recycling site was investigated. The focus was on spatial and vertical distributions and potential health issues related to PTEs. Average concentrations of Cd, As, Hg, Pb, Al, Zn, Cu, and Sb were elevated at all investigated soil depths, whereas the concentrations of Zn, Cu, and Sb were significant only on the soil surface. Positive matrix factorization, correlation and cluster analyses, as well as self-organizing maps, identified four primary pollution sources: recycling activities (Cd, Hg, Pb, and Sb), mixed anthropogenic sources (Zn and Cu), the soil parent material (As, Cr, and Ni), and surface runoff combined with sand application (Al and pH). While the non-carcinogenic risk results revealed a negligible risk for adults, the hazard index (HI) values for children were greater than one in 26% of the samples. For adults and children, the total carcinogenic risk (TCR) values were acceptable for 98% and 94% of the samples, respectively. Geospatial analysis identified the main hotspot in the battery disposal area. Source-specific non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks were most influenced by recycling activities. Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) of total HI for children showed that the risk value exceeded the threshold level (HI > 1) at the 10th percentile, whereas the maximum value of total HI for adults was 0.2. Regarding carcinogenic risk, the TCR values at the 95th percentile of all four sources for adults and children were below the limit value (1 × 10−4), indicating a low probability of cancer development. The accurate prediction of a lithium-ion battery's State of Health is of critical importance for efficient battery health management. Existing data-driven estimation methodologies grapple with issues such as high model complexity and a dearth of guidance from prior knowledge, which impose constraints on their efficacy. This work introduces a novel cross-modal distillation network for battery State of Health estimation, structured around a TransformerEncoder as the teacher network and a Convolutional Neural Network as the student network. Initially, the teacher model is pre-trained offline using State of Health degradation data to learn the degradation patterns. The directly measurable feature data (such as voltage, temperature, and current) is subsequently fed into the student network for online training and computation of a hard loss. the student network's output is then directed into the pre-trained the teacher network to compute a soft loss, thereby offering prior knowledge of degradation laws and steering the optimization process of the student network. Rigorous experiments are conducted utilizing various datasets, with the outcomes validating the superior estimation accuracy and degradation rule adherence of the model. Notably, among five different models, this model demonstrates the best performance on almost all datasets, achieving an RMSE of 0.0097 and an MAE of 0.0065 on Cell1 of the Oxford dataset. Moreover, the model also demonstrates robust performance across different usage scenarios, inclusive of multi-battery estimation. Furthermore, this paper also introduces a fine tuning method for State of Health predictions only using the first half of the data. To tackle the carbon emission problem, the exploitation of renewable energy resources (RESs) with zero emissions has gained much importance. In this context, hydrogen has become an important resource to involve itself in distributed energy resources (DERs) to generate electricity, energize vehicles, and heat our living areas. The utilization of hydrogen technologies is indispensable due to their procurement, environmental friendliness, and high efficiency for DERs. A challenging area in the field of hydrogen energy technologies is extracting efficient power and integration to DERs. This paper investigates how to model and operate a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stack in a DER application to establish a living lab facility for educational and research purposes by covering Power-to-X (P2X). The PEMFC model of the studied system is designed in a MATLAB/Simulink environment and implemented in an experimental testbed. Thus, a fuel cell (FC) unit as a complementary source is preferred to be used near a photovoltaic (PV) array, a small-scale wind turbine (WT), and a lead acid battery energy storage system (BESS) by creating a P2X concept to form a living lab platform. Beyond the model, regarding the experimental part, a PV array, a WT, and a BESS are combined with a PEMFC module that is rated output of 1200 W. Expect for all systems, the FC part is emphasized in this study. Here, we proposed a new ultrafast, low carbon footprint, green recycling high-purity PbO process with histidine+CO 2 dual cycles for direct Rotating Liquid Film (RLF) reactor intensification leaching of spent lead paste without desulfation from the perspective of the whole recycling lead chain, which achieves the leaching rate of 99.14% within 60 s, high-purity of PbO (99.99%) and ultra-fine BaSO 4 products. Parameter optimizations and kinetic calculations show the leaching time is shortened from 40 min to 60 s with 99.14 % leaching rate and 99.99 % PbO purity by internal diffusion control, where the RLF reactor promotes mass transfer and reaction rates by instantly renewing the surface of crude 2PbO·PbSO 4. Furthermore, all 5 batches reveal that the separation of SO 4 2− ions from the regenerated mother liquid with Ba(OH) 2 significantly improves the recycling rate of the mother liquid and high-purity PbO product. Widespread use of lead acid batteries (LABs) is resulting in the generation of million tons of battery waste, globally. LAB waste contains critical and hazardous materials, which have detrimental effects on the environment and human health. In recent times, recycling of the LABs has become efficient but the collection of batteries in developing countries is not efficient, which led to the non-professional treatment and recycling of these batteries in the informal sector. This paper proposes a blockchain-enabled architecture for LAB circularity, which ensures authentic, traceable and transparent system for collection and treatment of batteries. The stakeholders—battery manufacturers, distributors, retailers, users, and validators (governments, domain experts, third party experts, etc.)—are integrated in the circular loop through a blockchain network. A mobile application user interface is provided to all the stakeholders for the ease of adoption. The batteries manufactured and supplied in a geographical region as well as the recycled materials at the battery end-of-life are traced authentically. Abstract-In recent years, electric vehicles have garnered significant attention, with lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) being central to their operation. Researchers and scholars have prioritized the accurate estimation of the state of charge (SOC) within the battery management system (BMS) as a key area of study. In this paper, by analyzing different equivalent circuit models, we choose to use the second-order RC model, elaborate the Kalman filter (KF) principle, and propose the adaptive extended Kalman filter (AEKF) to construct the estimation model of SOC. MATLAB validates the AEKF estimation model under two different operating conditions, UDDS and LA92, and the results show that the designed model can efficiently and accurately estimate the battery charge state with high competitiveness and accurately predict the real SOC direction regardless of the initial state, AEKF is more competitive than KF in terms of SOC prediction accuracy, Despite the different initial values of SOC, the roof-mean-square error of prediction was able to be controlled around one percent. This paper presents a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the environmental impacts (EI) produced by novel nickel-zinc battery (RNZB) technology, which is a promising alternative for energy storage applications. The paper develops mathematical models for estimating the life cycle environmental impacts of RNZB from cradle to grave, based on an extensive literature review and the ISO standards for life cycle costing and life cycle analysis. The paper uses the ReCiPe 2016 method of life cycle analysis (LCA) to calculate the EI of RNZB in terms of eighteen Midpoint impact categories and three Endpoint impact categories: damage to human health, damage to ecosystem diversity, and damage to resource availability. The paper also compares the EI of RNZB with those of other battery technologies, such as lead-acid and lithium-ion LFP and NMC. The paper applies the models and compares results with those provided by the software openLCA (version 1.11.0), showing its reliability and concluding that NiZn batteries contribute approximately 14 MJ for CED and 0.82 kg CO2 eq. for global warming per kWh of released energy, placing them between lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries. This study suggests that NiZn battery technology could benefit from using more renewable energy in end-use applications and adopting green recovery technology to reduce environmental impact. Estimation of cost and duration of grading a particular area provides important information for contractors and construction machine manufacturers. In this study, cost and duration of excavation by dozer is estimated by simulating the movements of the dozer. Specifications of the dozer, soil conditions and site conditions are defined to the simulator. The simulation considers tire penetration, rolling, grade, hauling, as well as cutting resistances and estimates the necessary force to be applied. The simulation implements an autonomous grading algorithm established for electric powered dozers which starts grading from a local highest point to prevent uphill excavation and hauling. The algorithm determines the necessary maneuvers to reach local highest point, excavate or haul the earth pile to the dump area. The simulation runs until the objected elevation is obtained at each portion of the excavation site. The simulator calculates the consumed energy, time, and total cost of the excavation. The excavations of 30x45 square meter area by one existing electric dozer and five updated versions of it are simulated. The simulation of the excavation is computed in 23 seconds for the smallest and 10 seconds for the largest dozer. The cost of grading and pushing the excavated material at most 20 meters away is estimated as less than 5 cents/m3 for the lead-acid battery powered dozer and 8 cents/m3 in the average for the lithium-ion battery powered dozers. The simulation revealed that electric powered dozers have less unit excavation cost than diesel powered ones, also larger dozers consumes less energy than the smaller ones. The developed simulation technique is implemented without any numerical errors and the technique can be beneficial for the construction machine manufacturers to optimize their designs and for the contractors to select the most suitable construction machine among the present alternatives. The efficacy of electrolytes significantly affects battery performance, leading to the development of several strategies to enhance them. Despite this, the understanding of solvation structure remains inadequate. It is imperative to understand the structure–property–performance relationship of electrolytes using diverse techniques. This review explores the recent advancements in electrolyte design strategies for high capacity, high-voltage, wide-temperature, fast-charging, and safe applications. To begin, the current state-of-the-art electrolyte design directions are comprehensively reviewed. Subsequently, advanced techniques and computational methods used to understand the solvation structure are discussed. Additionally, the importance of high-throughput screening and advanced computation of electrolytes with the help of machine learning is emphasized. Finally, future horizons for studying electrolytes are proposed, aimed at improving battery performance and promoting their application in various fields by enhancing the microscopic understanding of electrolytes. This article proposes a novel battery management system (BMS) to ensure uninterruptible power delivery to a 48 V DC bus used for electric vehicle charging stations, data centers, telecommunication systems, and critical care units such as hospitals. The proposed BMS facilitates constant current and constant voltage charging to maintain optimal battery performance during normal operation. This BMS is designed for effective control, monitoring and protection of two lead‐acid battery units to form battery energy storage system (BESS). Furthermore, it is capable of isolating batteries in abnormal conditions and operates them independently to provide reliable supply at output terminals with full capacity. The system utilizes a 30 V DC source derived from AC mains or solar photovoltaic system. This supply is used to charge the BESS and also supply to the load. In the event of failure of 30 V supply, it seamlessly transits to BESS mode to supply power to boost converter to maintain constant 48 V DC output at load terminal. The proposed system architecture not only enhances power reliability but also improves overall system efficiency, making it well‐suited for critical applications require continuous and stable power supply. Simulation studies using Matlab/Simulink and analytical results using TINA (Tool kit for Interactive Network Analysis) are presented to show that 48 V DC supply is maintained at output terminals during failure of input 30 V DC source or failure of one battery unit. Soil heavy metal pollution poses a serious threat to the eco-environment. Municipal sludge-based passivators and clay minerals have been widely applied to immobilize heavy metal contamination in soils. However, little is known about the immobilization effect and mechanisms of raw municipal sludge and clay in reducing the mobility and bioavailability of heavy metals in soils. Here, municipal sludge, raw clay and mixtures of thereof were used to remediate Pb-contaminated soil from a Pb-acid battery factory. The remediation performance was evaluated through acid leaching, sequential extraction, and plant assay. Results showed that the leachable Pb content in the soil decreased from 5.0 mg kg−1 to 4.8, 4.8 and 4.4 mg kg−1 after 30 d of remediation with MS and RC added at equal weights to give total dosage of 20, 40 wt% and 60 wt %, respectively. The leachable Pb further decreased to 1.7, 2.0 and 1.7 mg kg−1 after 180 d of remediation. Speciation analysis of the soil Pb indicated that the exchangeable and Fe-Mn oxide-bound Pb were transformed into residual Pb in the early stage of remediation, and the carbonate-bound Pb and organic matter-bound Pb were transformed into residual Pb in the later stage of remediation. As a result, Pb accumulation in mung beans decreased by 78.5%, 81.1% and 83.4% after 180 days of remediation. These results indicate that the leaching toxicity and phytotoxicity of Pb in remediated soils were significantly reduced, presenting a better and low-cost method for soil remediation. This paper presents a comprehensive techno–economic and environmental impact analysis of electric two-wheeler batteries in India. The technical comparison reveals that sodium-ion (Na-ion) and lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries outperform lead–acid batteries in various parameters, with Na-ion and Li-ion batteries exhibiting higher energy densities, higher power densities, longer cycle lives, faster charge rates, better compactness, lighter weight and lower self-discharge rates. In economic comparison, Na-ion batteries were found to be ~12–14% more expensive than Li-ion batteries. However, the longer lifespans and higher energy densities of Na-ion and Li-ion batteries can offset their higher costs through improved performance and long-term savings. Lead–acid batteries have the highest environmental impact, while Li-ion batteries demonstrate better environmental performance and potential for recycling. Na-ion batteries offer promising environmental advantages with their abundance, lower cost and lower toxic and hazardous material content. Efficient recycling processes can further enhance the environmental benefits of Na-ion batteries. Overall, this research examines the potential of Na-ion batteries as a cheaper alternative to Li-ion batteries, considering India's abundant sodium resources in regions such as Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and others. Energy supply on high mountains remains an open issue since grid connection is not feasible. In the past, diesel generators with lead–acid battery energy storage systems (ESSs) were applied in most cases. Recently, photovoltaic (PV) systems with lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery ESSs have become suitable for solving this problem in a greener way. In 2016, an off-grid PV system with a Li-ion battery ESS was installed in Paiyun Lodge on Mt. Jade (the highest lodge in Taiwan). After operating for more than 7 years, the aging of the whole electric power system became a critical issue for its long-term usage. In this work, a method is established for analyzing the massive energy data (over 7 million rows), such as daily operation patterns, as well as the C-rate, temperature, and accumulated energy distributions, and estimating the health of the Li-ion battery system. A completed electric power improvement project dealing with power system aging is reported. Based on the long-term usage experience, a simple cost analysis model comparing lead–acid and Li-ion battery systems is built, revealing that expensive Li-ion batteries can compete with cheap lead–acid batteries for long-term usage on high mountains. Partial state of charge (PSOC) is an important use case for lead–acid batteries. Charging times in lead–acid cells and batteries can be variable, and when used in PSOC operation, the manufacturer's recommended charge times for single-cycle use are not necessarily applicable. Knowing how long charging will take and what the variability in time required is allows for better planning of operations and algorithm creation for battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturers. This paper details and demonstrates a procedure for identifying the charging time of cells when different charge throughputs occur prior to reaching full charge. The results showed that the charging time in PSOC operations was highly variable when a charge-factor-controlled full-charge procedure was used. Also noted were that higher voltages for the same state of charge were reached as the number of cycles following reaching full charge increased. None of the regimes tested in this paper caused any significant capacity degradation, which demonstrates that PSOC operations can be performed even on cells not specifically designed for them, provided the correct regime is chosen. Vanadium redox flow batteries are promising energy storage devices and are already ahead of lead–acid batteries in terms of installed capacity in energy systems due to their long service life and possibility of recycling. One of the crucial tasks today is the development of models for assessing battery performance and its residual resource based on the battery's present state. A promising method for estimating battery capacity is based on analyzing present voltage and current values under various load conditions. This paper analyzes the discharge characteristics of a 10 kW all-vanadium redox flow battery at fixed load powers from 6 to 12 kW. A linear dependence of operating voltage and initial discharge voltage on load power is established. It is also determined that the slope of the discharge curve linear section does not increase linearly in absolute value, and the Box–Lucas model can be used to describe it. Models for predicting current VRFB capacity based on different curve fitting functions are proposed. These models can be used to roughly estimate battery capacity at different load powers. In order to improve the accuracy of internal temperature estimation in batteries, a 10-parameter time-varying multi-surface heat transfer model including internal heat production, heat transfer and external heat transfer is established based on the structure of a lithium iron phosphate pouch battery and its three directional anisotropic heat conduction characteristics. The entropy heat coefficient, internal equivalent heat capacity and internal equivalent thermal resistance related to the SOC and temperature state of the battery were identified using experimental tests and the least square fitting method, and were then used for online calculation of internal heat production and heat transfer in the battery. According to the time-varying and nonlinear characteristics of the heat transfer between the surface and the environment of the battery, an internal temperature estimation algorithm based on the square root cubature Kalman filter was designed and developed. By iteratively calculating the estimated surface temperature and the measured value, dynamic tracking and online correction of the internal temperature of the battery can be achieved. The verification results using FUDS and US06 dynamic working condition data show that the proposed method can quickly eliminate the influence of initial temperature deviations and accumulated process errors and has the characteristics of a high estimation accuracy and good robustness. Compared with the estimation results of the adaptive Kalman filter, the proposed method improves the estimation accuracy of FUDS and US06 working conditions by 67% and 54%, respectively, with a similar computational efficiency. Lead-acid batteries need to evolve to keep up with the electrification of vehicles and not lose ground to other technologies. The grid designed using a lead alloy thus plays a very important role in the performance of the battery, as, in the course of the various cycles, this component undergoes a natural corrosion process at positive potential, while immersed in a sulfuric acid solution. The aim of this study is therefore to examine the effect of the addition of calcium and bismuth on the microstructure, mechanical behavior and corrosion resistance of the Pb1.5%Sn alloy, with a view to using this in the positive grid of lead-acid batteries. The alloys developed during this study were evaluated using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Mechanical properties were investigated using universal tensile and hardness tests. Electrochemical tests of cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were carried out in a 5M sulfuric acid solution at 25 °C to simulate the behavior of the alloy when in operation. The composition of the corrosion products formed were subsequently characterized by morphological analysis using scanning electron microscopy and the composition was determined using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The results indicate that the Pb1.5Sn0.12Bi alloy presented better corrosion resistance characteristics than the Pb1.5Sn0.05Ca alloy, making it suitable for inclusion in the composition of the positive electrode of a lead-acid battery. Further investment is however required to compensate for the shortcomings in relation to the mechanical properties of the material.

In this paper, the adsorption behavior of intrinsic black phosphorus (BP) and BP doped with five atoms of O, Si, S, Cu and Zn on Pb 2 + in aqueous solution was investigated by using the first principle of nature. The formation energy was calculated to be the smallest for Si-doped BP at 2.608 eV, indicating the best structural stability. The adsorption energy was calculated and showed that the doped BP is more capable of adsorbing Pb 2 + than the intrinsic BP, with the S-doped BP having the strongest adsorption capacity of 0.151 eV. The density of states was calculated and showed that the bandgaps of the doped BP are all smaller than the 1.3 eV of the intrinsic BP, indicating that the doping can improve electrical conductivity of the adsorption system. The charge transfer was calculated and showed that S doping, O doping, Cu doping and Zn doping enhanced the ionic bonding between BP surface atoms and Pb 2 + , while Si doping weakened the ionic bonding. The charge transfer of S doping was the largest at 1.371 e, indicating that S-doped BP had the strongest ability to adsorb Pb 2 + . [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Solar-based home PV systems are the most amazing eco-friendly energy innovations in the world, which are not only climate-friendly but also cost-effective solutions. The tropical environment of Malaysia makes it difficult to adopt photovoltaic (PV) systems because of the protracted rainy monsoon season, which makes PV systems useless without backup batteries. Large quantities of lithium-ion battery (LIB) trash are being produced by the electric vehicle (EV) sector. A total of 75% of the highest capacity levels have been discarded. By 2035, it is predicted that the wasted LIBs held as a result of expensive recycling and difficult material separation would carry up to 1200 GWh. An economical and sustainable option is offered by our study, which prototypes a replicated LIB pack that is incorporated into a PV home system. This study investigates the transformational power of second-life electric vehicle batteries (SLEVBs) when incorporated into home photovoltaic (PV) systems. The concept entails reusing existing electric vehicle batteries for stationary applications, offering a unique approach to extending the life of these batteries while meeting the growing need for sustainable domestic energy storage. The study looks at the technological feasibility, economic viability, and environmental effect of introducing SLEVBs into household PV systems, giving vital insight into their role in revolutionizing energy storage techniques and promoting sustainability. In comparison to the Lead–Acid Battery (LAB) system, the SLEVB system has a cheaper total cost of ownership, with savings of 12.62% compared with new LABs. A CO2 emission reduction of at least 20% is achieved by using the SLEVB system compared with LABs. Electricity can be provided in houses in rural areas where there is no electricity. As a result, the security and superiority of the life of rural residents will improve. It is anticipated that the suggested strategy will lower EV pricing, enabling EV adoption for M40 and B40 groups. Consequently, the Malaysian and worldwide EV business will remain viable. Continuous in-field robotic and automated systems are challenged by the need for a continuous supply of power. This off-grid power supply can be diesel, gasoline, propane, or alternative energy sources like solar or wind. This study investigates the required solar panel arrays and energy storage capacities for an off-grid solar-battery power supply system. This study used 22 years of historical weather data from Lexington, Kentucky, and processed it with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's System Advisor Model to model hourly energy output from solar panel arrays of 2 kW, 3 kW, 4 kW, 5 kW, 10 kW, 15 kW, and 20 kW. This was combined with an energy storage model (simulated battery capacities of 5 kWh, 10 kWh, 15 kWh, 20 kWh, 30 kWh, 40 kWh, 50 kWh, and 60 kWh) and an energy use model (simulated daily energy demands of 3.6 kWh, 6 kWh, 12 kWh, 18 kWh, and 24 kWh) to determine which systems could operate over the entire 22 years without reaching critical minimum levels. For a 3.6 kWh daily energy demand, 32 combinations of solar panel arrays and battery capacities remained above critical levels, while this was only 12 combinations for a 6 kWh daily energy demand and no combination could support larger energy demands. An example a feasible system to support a 6 kWh energy demand is one that uses a 15 kW panel array (42 standard panels with an approximate system hardware cost of $22,650) and 30 kWh of energy storage capacity (which with lead acid batteries would cost $11,661 and require a volume of 300 L). There is a tradeoff between solar panel array size and battery capacity so other feasible systems can be realized by increasing one to make up for reductions in the other variable. Additionally, limiting system operation to March through October can reduce the size of the required panel array (to between 33% to 67% of the original size) or energy storage capacity (to between 40% to 67% of the original capacity) for a given daily energy load. The size of the solar battery system could be further decreased by adding an emergency generator that uses no more than 50 kg of propane annually. Battery capacities could be reduced by 17% to 38% compared to the original system, and the solar panel arrays could be reduced by 13% to 15% compared to the original. Specific reduction amounts depended on the specific configuration of the original system and the daily load level that had to be supported. A system that only operated from March through October with a backup generator could also support the 12 and 18 kWh daily energy demands, which could not be supported by the original system. Even with limiting operation to March through October and using an emergency generator, the minimal battery capacity was at least 2.5 times larger than the daily energy demand, and the solar panel array had to be large enough that the nominal output would provide the daily energy demand in 3 hours of full sun. However, because of the trade-off relationship, these minimums cannot be attained together. While continuous in-field robotic deployments show promise for improving agriculture, it will be critical to design with energy efficiency in mind and the off-grid power supply for wide-spread use across agricultural lands. This work determined the microstructure and tensile properties of low-calcium Pb-Sn--Ca alloys (with a tin-to-calcium content ratio ranging from 18.4 to 23.5) used to produce positive lead-acid battery grids. Natural aging during storage under atmospheric conditions resulted in a breakdown of the supersaturated alpha-lead solid solution, with (Pb,Sn)3Ca and Sn3Ca strengthening particles precipitating. A noticeable change in grain size was not observed in the tested alloys aged for 32 days. The Pb-Sn-Ca alloys age-strengthened rapidly after casting, requiring 32 days to reach an average of 2.7, 4.9, and 1.3 times greater ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and Young's modulus, respectively. The data obtained showed that the prolongation of aging time produced stronger and stiffer materials, but the average elongation of the alloys became 2.4 times lower. One of the factors that affect the performance of the value‐regulated lead acid (VRLA) battery is gel electrolyte. To address this, a gel polymer electrolyte comprising halloysite nano‐clay in a poly(vinyl alcohol) matrix is formulated and the electrochemical performance is studied. Interaction between halloysite nano‐clay and poly(vinyl alcohol) is confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). To optimize the concentration of gel electrolytes, cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) are utilized. Galvanostatic charge‐discharge (GCD) tests are performed on a prototype battery comprising of an optimized gel electrolyte. The battery shows the highest discharge capacity of 6.858 μAh at 7.5 μA cm−2 current density and achieves admirable discharge capacity retention of 87.5% after 500 cycles. Metal‐organic frameworks recently have been burgeoning and used as precursors to obtain various metal–nitrogen–carbon catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Although rarely studied, Mn–N–C is a promising catalyst for ORR due to its weak Fenton reaction activity and strong graphitization catalysis. Here, we developed a facile strategy for anchoring the atomically dispersed nitrogen‐coordinated single Mn sites on carbon nanosheets (MnNCS) from an Mn‐hexamine coordination framework. The atomically dispersed Mn–N4 sites were dispersed on ultrathin carbon nanosheets with a hierarchically porous structure. The optimized MnNCS displayed an excellent ORR performance in half‐cells (0.89 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) in base and 0.76 V vs. RHE in acid in half‐wave potential) and Zn–air batteries (233 mW cm−2 in peak power density), along with significantly enhanced stability. Density functional theory calculations further corroborated that the Mn–N4–C12 site has favorable adsorption of *OH as the rate‐determining step. These findings demonstrate that the metal‐hexamine coordination framework can be used as a model system for the rational design of highly active atomic metal catalysts for energy applications. Thermal events in lead-acid batteries during their operation play an important role; they affect not only the reaction rate of ongoing electrochemical reactions, but also the rate of discharge and self-discharge, length of service life and, in critical cases, can even cause a fatal failure of the battery, known as "thermal runaway." This contribution discusses the parameters affecting the thermal state of the lead-acid battery. It was found by calculations and measurements that there is a cooling component in the lead-acid battery system which is caused by the endothermic discharge reactions and electrolysis of water during charging, related to entropy change contribution. Thus, under certain circumstances, it is possible to lower the temperature of the lead-acid battery during its discharging. The Joule heat generated on the internal resistance of the cell due to current flow, the exothermic charging reaction, and above all, the gradual increase in polarization as the cell voltage increases during charging all contribute to the heating of the cell, overtaking the cooling effect. Of these three sources of thermal energy, Joule heating in polarization resistance contributes the most to the temperature rise in the lead-acid battery. Thus, the maximum voltage reached determines the slope of the temperature rise in the lead-acid battery cell, and by a suitably chosen limiting voltage, it is possible to limit the danger of the "thermal runaway" effect. The overall thermal conditions of the experimental cell are significantly affected by the ambient temperature of the external environment and the rate of heat transfer through the walls of the calorimeter. A series of experiments with direct temperature measurement of individual locations within a lead-acid battery uses a calorimeter made of expanded polystyrene to minimize external influences. A hitherto unpublished phenomenon is discussed whereby the temperature of the positive electrode was lower than that of the negative electrode throughout the discharge, while during charging, the order was reversed and the temperature of the positive electrode was higher than that of the negative electrode throughout the charge. The mobility sector is considered a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. As a result, many countries have initiated the transition from fossil fuel-powered to electrified powertrains. This transformation of the powertrain concept will lead to a rapid increase in the production of electric vehicles and, therefore, to a high demand for so-called traction batteries. As a production step of the traction batteries, a connection between the cell connector and the terminal of the battery cell has to be manufactured. For this purpose, laser beam welding is a reliable and efficient joining technique. In order to ensure continuous quality of the welding process during production and to detect defects in real time, reliable process monitoring is required. In this study, spectral and acoustic emissions during laser beam welding were recorded using a laser welding monitor and an optical microphone. For determining possible correlations between the signals and weld defects, various failure cases were generated by the systematic placement of disturbance elements. These elements included a contaminated surface, a gap between the cell connector and the battery cell, and a misalignment of the cell connector. Based on the recorded signals, statistical metrics were calculated. The Indonesian government has targeted 2.1 million two-wheeled electric vehicles and 2,200 four-wheeled electric vehicles (EV) by 2025. This is hampered by limited electricity supply and EV charging, which takes long time. Multi device interleaved DC-DC bidirectional converter has been applied and assessed as the most suitable method for battery EV and plug-in hybrid EV because it produces high power >10 kW. For power below 10 kW, it is recommended to use a sinusoidal, Z-Source, and boost amplifier type converter. The smart charging (SC) system will be applied to electric vehicles, which only require a minimum charging power of around 169 W for four lead acid batteries. This paper focuses on an SC system that is capable of charging the battery quickly while still paying attention to the state of health (SoH) of the battery. The SC developed uses a DC-DC boost converter to increase the voltage produced by the switch mode power supply (SMPS). Estimated charging time is less than 30 minutes and still pay attention to the battery SoH. SC will also use pulse width modulation (PWM) as a duty power cycle regulator. This research applies a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) classifier to a neural network (NN). The results of the research show that smart charging can charge up to 600 W with an estimated charging time of around 11 minutes. The charging condition is above 60 % and the power duty cycle setting is 100 %. The power estimation results processed using the ant colony optimization (ACO) based neural network method show a root mean square deviation value of 0.010013430 for charging four lead acid batteries. Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are experiencing a large-scale renaissance to supplement or replace expensive lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and low energy density lead-acid batteries in electrical energy storage systems and other applications. In this case, layered oxide materials have become one of the most popular cathode candidates for SIBs because of their low cost and comparatively facile synthesis method. However, the intrinsic shortcomings of layered oxide cathodes, which severely limit their commercialization process, urgently need to be addressed. In this review, inherent challenges associated with layered oxide cathodes for SIBs, such as their irreversible multiphase transition, poor air stability, and low energy density, are systematically summarized and discussed, together with strategies to overcome these dilemmas through bulk phase modulation, surface/interface modification, functional structure manipulation, and cationic and anionic redox optimization. Emphasis is placed on investigating variations in the chemical composition and structural configuration of layered oxide cathodes and how they affect the electrochemical behavior of the cathodes to illustrate how these issues can be addressed. The summary of failure mechanisms and corresponding modification strategies of layered oxide cathodes presented herein provides a valuable reference for scientific and practical issues related to the development of SIBs. For achieving more appropriate Total Cost of Electricity (TCE), this work discusses a novel approach for optimizing the design of a micro grid generation system. The studied system consists of Wind-PV generation supported by Lead-Acid storage batteries. Taking into account the in-depth modeling of each element of the system, the optimization task is solved based on Multi-Verse Optimization (MVO) algorithm. This combination is essentially elaborated to meet consumer needs, mitigate high current inrush and ensure continuity of service all day in all conditions. For the first time, we treated the electrical quantities statistically at the level of the BESS capacities and the obtained results are converted into statistical models by using the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). The Obtained results show that the best configuration is chosen by MVO approach in accordance with a high penetration of all component of the system. To advance toward the key question of this study, different economic analyzes are elaborated and furthermore the lowest value of the TCE is reached. In this research paper the feasibility of renewable-powered, selfsufficient university campuses was explored by conducting a technoeconomic analysis of standalone PV-Battery systems for the buildings of Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) in Izmir, Turkey. Given the high energy demand and dependence on fossil-based grids by universities, integrating renewables becomes important for minimizing carbon footprints. In this study the campus's solar potential was focused and the techno-economic feasibility of grid-independent operations provided by PV-battery systems was evaluated. Four scenarios were investigated: (i) maximum PV installation for each building (MPVB), (ii) maximum PV installation for the entire campus (MPVC), (iii) necessary PV installation for self-sufficiency of each building (NPVB), and (iv) necessary PV installation for self-sufficiency of the whole campus (NPVC). The first two scenarios considered the maximum achievable rooftop PV installation while the latter two included additional PV installation to cover all electricity needs. For all scenarios both lead-acid and Liion batteries were considered. Mathematical models were developed using PVSol and TRNSYS software, and technoeconomic analysis was conducted using Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) and Net Present Value (NPV) methods. It was found that the NPVC scenario with lead-acid batteries is the most favorable, as it minimizes battery utilization by enabling more PV installation and facilitating energy transfer between buildings. Additionally, the research showed that off-grid PV-battery systems are economically less feasible compared to on-grid counterparts, primarily due to the high cost of batteries. The use of rechargeable batteries for electrical energy storage requires a voltage balancing system. The voltage balancing system requires monitoring in the use of rechargeable batteries so that they can be utilized properly and can improve the electrical energy storage system. In this research, a monitored lead acid battery voltage balancing system was designed so that the management of the battery voltage balance level and the storage of electrical energy in rechargeable batteries can be stored and used optimally. In this research a series of lead acid battery voltage detection and power dissipation circuits were designed. The power dissipation circuit uses the controlled shunt resistor method which is used when the voltage of the lead acid battery being charged exceeds the maximum voltage. This method is easy to implement and can display the value of the lead acid battery voltage and other parameters, so that it can be monitored by the user. The results obtained show that the average voltage error for batteries 1 and 2 is 0.09% and 0.3% respectively. The power dissipation circuit can dissipate lead acid battery power above the reference voltage VREF=±7 V, with a balanced voltage of 6.8 V at 140 minutes and 160 minutes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Water quality monitoring is a critical process in maintaining the well-being of aquatic ecosystems and ensuring growth of the surrounding environment. Clean water supports and maintains the health, livelihoods, and ecological balance of the ecosystem as a whole. Regular assessment of water quality is essential to ensure clean and reliable water is available to everyone. This requires regular measurement of pollutants or contaminants in water that can be monitored in real-time. Hence, this research showcases a system that consists of low-cost sensors used to measure five basic parameters of water quality that are: turbidity, total dissolved solids, temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen. The system incorporates electronics and IoT technology that are powered by a solar charged lead acid battery. The data gathered from the sensors was stored locally on a micro-SD card with live updates that could be viewed on a mobile device when in proximity to the system. Data was gathered from three different bodies of water over a span of three weeks, precisely during the seasonal transition from autumn to winter. We adopted a water sampling technique since our low-cost sensors were not designed for continuous submersion. The results show that the temperature drops gradually during this period and an inversely proportional relationship between pH and temperature could be observed. The concentration of total dissolved solids decreased during rainy periods with a variation in turbidity. The deployed system was robust and autonomous that effectively monitored the quality of water in real-time with scope of adding more sensors and employing Industry 4.0 paradigm to predict variations in water quality. Identification of the operating voltage of a lead acid battery with 30% sulfuric acid electrolyte flow has been carried out. The battery consists of six cells with Pb and PbO as electrodes. The battery is equipped with a 1200 ml reservoir system to collect electrolyte and supply electrolyte to each cell. Each cell has electrolyte inlets and outlets at the top and bottom that circulate through each cell using a peristaltic pump. The battery prototype built was tested for five charge-discharge cycles with a constant current of 2 A for the charging process and 0.5 A for the discharging process using Turnigy Accucell. During the charge-discharge cycle test, monitoring and recording of voltage data is carried out using a Laptop PC. Data processing uses WebplotDigitizer and Microsoft Excel for data graphing. The results are analyzed and used to identify the operating voltage of the battery by taking the average voltage over five charge-discharge cycles. The average voltage is 13.98 V for the charging process and 12.11 V for the discharging process. Six-cell battery with full capacity works at a voltage range of 12.11-13.98 V. In the process of charging with a constant current of 2 A, the battery takes an average of 7.49 hours. So, the charging capacity can be estimated at 14,980 mAh. Whereas the battery discharge process takes an average of 11 hours with a constant current of 0.5 A to a voltage drop of 10.81 V. The resulting capacity of the discharged battery is 5500 mAh. Flooded Lead Acid (FLA) batteries remain a cost-effective choice in various industries. Accurate State of Charge (SOC) estimation is crucial for effective battery management systems. This paper thoroughly examines the behavior of Open-Circuit Voltage (OCV) during hysteresis in FLA batteries, proposing a novel hysteresis modeling approach based on this behavior to enhance the SOC estimation accuracy. Additionally, we introduce an Adaptive Unscented Kalman Filter (AUKF) to further refine the SOC estimation precision. Experimental validation confirms the effectiveness of the proposed hysteresis modeling. A comparative analysis against the traditional Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) under random charge/discharge profiles underscores the superior performance of AUKF, showcasing an improved convergence to the correct SOC value and a significant reduction in the SOC estimation error to approximately 2%, in contrast to the 5% error observed with the traditional UKF.
