One of the privileged ways of reducing the complexity of communication is through structuring of information flows, which reduces communication to the perspective of the external observer. The present essay is a research work about the scientific production in Digital Preservation through the use of the Web of Science database. A state of the art is established in which the most important milestones in Digital Preservation are collected, as well as the content analysis of definitions and their influence in Spain. The scientific production is analysed by treating the scientific articles retrieved from the Web of Science. This analysis is based on the application of bibliometric laws, the Impact Factor, the SJR, the index-h and trends according to language, country, institutions, research areas, document typology, abstract and descriptors. Finally, a series of conclusions are drawn together with a prospective for future work related to this study.

Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is set of tiny sensors that are used to monitor various functions of human body as well as connect living things to machines. Medium Access Control (MAC) layer on other hand is used to access the medium and establishes communications between sensors and de-vices. In this article, we surveyed various MAC protocols used in WBAN, issues in MAC layer as well as its security challenges. This article also provides a com-prehensive analysis of research work done in recent years.

Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks are the intimidation trials on the Inter-net that deplete the network bandwidth. Researchers have introduced various defense mechanisms including attack prevention, traceback, reaction, detection, and character-ization against DDoS attacks, but the number of these attacks increases every year, and the ideal solutions to this problem have eluded us so far. A classification of detec-tion approaches against DDoS attacks is presented with the aim of giving deep insight into the DDoS problem.

This work reviews the characteristics and features that semantic wikis should offer. To do this, it defines an ideal theoretical model, from which a functionalities analysis matrix is developed. This matrix applies to three applications widely regarded as semantic wikis. The results show that, although they are capable of implementing basic semantic web structures, there are differences in their approaches and performance. Improved processing of ontologies and other vocabularies, and linked data integration are developments needed in future versions of the tools.

Libraries are slowly shifting their role from being custodians of collection-based traditional information resources to being providers of access-based digital information resources. National library being the apex body of a country’s library system really holds a vital part in the whole gamut of knowledge sharing. Library websites play an important role for this purpose. The basic purpose of this study is to analyze the contents of national library websites of Asian countries (45). An evaluation method was carried out for this study to know the how far the websites of national libraries of Asian countries had satisfied the selected parameters as instructed in the respective guidelines. According to findings, 9% of selected national library websites regardless of their characteristics had fallen in the grade of “A++”, 44% had fallen in “A” and remaining 47% had been considered in the grade of “B”.

Therefore, researchers have opportunity to contribute towards well-being smart society easily. E-health on other hand is trying to provide remote access and availability of Wireless BANs (WBANs) facilities. Since, the tiny economical sensors are attached to body (either by implant or wearable fashion) to monitor the health parameters and act accordingly. Therefore, WBAN standards need special attention for optimization. In our previous work, we have proposed relaying protocol, while in this work we aim to extend the relaying protocol to WBANs in order to achieve better performance and safeguard the Master Node (MN). In order to make ubiquity, we propose to extend this work to small world network. This document described the initial proposal in this regards.

Archival institutions are an important source of information for citizens in exercising their rights, not only because they are responsible for the custody, preservation and dissemination of the archival heritage produced by the state, but also as a space for development for scientific, academic and cultural productions. The World Wide Web (WWW), through the websites, has become an essential and privileged resource for the dissemination of information and for the interaction between people and institutions. The archives, as social institutions, are responsible for the promotion, wide and democratic, of access to information under their custody to all users. Digital inclusion is a fundamental theme in the agenda of archival institutions, more precisely in the policies of access to information in their custody, in order to promote the democratization of the services provided by the institution, including the portion of the population with some functional diversity. But to what extent do the websites of archival institutions promote the accessibility of users who have certain functional diversities in accessing information in their custody? In this study, it is seeked to verify whether archival institutions adopt good practices on their websites, regarding the accessibility of people with functional diversity, in order to allow their inclusion in the services rendered, particularly the use of virtual platforms to access the information. This is a descriptive and quality-quantitative research, in which the automatic validator AccessMonitor, which follows the standard Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), evaluates the accessibility conditions of the websites of the national archival institutions of the Ibero-American countries, members of the organization of Ibero-American States (OEI). It is intended that the adopted methodology, as well as the results obtained from the analysis of the already mentioned web pages, can contribute with the analysis and monitoring of the policies of access to information, especially regarding the accessibility of information available through the websites, by people with some functional diversity.

This research is focused on the study of deaf users who have the Brazilian Sign Language - Libras as one of their identity characteristics. The research is part of a study called Deaf Users and accessibility to information on websites of the Brazilian government, whose main objective is to identify the degree of satisfaction of the deaf user in accessing information on Brazilian government websites. Considering the spatial visual characteristic of the deaf people, this paper discusses the alternatives of data collection instruments to be used considering the use of the sign language and the optimization to reach the analysis of the data.

The present research describes the results of an ongoing study and whose objective is to identify the deaf user satisfaction in the accessibility to the information in websites of the Brazilian government. The research is located in the field of Information Users Studies. It presents descriptive characteristic, applied nature, transverse temporal horizon and approach of mixed methods. The users are the deaf people, residing in the Federal District, Brazil, who act in the teaching of the Brazilian Sign Language in higher education institutions. Partial results were obtained by means of pre-tests. The experiences with the users sought to evaluate the accessibility in Web sites, by performing tasks submitted to groups of deaf users and listeners. The results show that listeners and deaf people present similar difficulties in trying to comply with the proposals, which can be understood as the existence of an information barrier that prevents access to information.

Este trabajo pretende monitorizar y controlar la presencia del personal investigador de la UPNA en las principales plataformas de perfiles de investigación, no solo en las más evidentes como Google Scholar Citation, Researcher ID, Scopus ID y ORCID, sino también en otros servicios que, en la práctica, funcionan como perfiles de investigación, como Mendeley, Linkedin, ResearchGate, Academia.edu y Academica-e. También nos parece interesante analizar esa presencia y ver cómo responde a una serie de variables, como son el departamento, el género, la categoría laboral, el grupo de investigación. En este estudio hemos excluido algunas plataformas por diferentes motivos. Los perfiles de Dialnet se introducen desde la biblioteca de la UPNA (BUPNA), lo que quiere decir que estarían todos los que cumplen los requisitos para su inclusión, por lo cual no tiene mucho sentido su análisis, ya que depende de factores ajenos a la voluntad del propio investigador. Otro tanto sucede con el Portal de Producción Científica de la UPNA (PPC): los datos se introducen desde el Vicerrectorado de Investigación y deberían estar todos los miembros del PDI de la UPNA. Usando como base el censo de personal investigador de la universidad suministrado por el Vicerrectorado de Investigación, se ha comprobado, para cada autor o autora, la existencia o no de un perfil en los diferentes servicios estudiados. Los resultados se han ido tabulando en un fichero Excel para poder analizarlos posteriormente. Los datos han sido tomados en marzo de 2018 para Orcid, ResearcherID, ScopusID, Google Scholar Citations y Mendeley. En Noviembre de 2018 se tomaron los datos de Academica-e, Academia.edu, ResearchGate y Linkedin. The article reflects on opportunities and challenges that information and communication technologies have been providing for the context of the organization and preservation of cultural heritage. To this end, it aims to present the result of the analysis of knowledge resources, including metadata standards, vocabularies, models and ontologies aimed at the description of cultural objects in diverse media. The main contribution of this research is to bring to light the existing standards addressed to the description of documents intended for researchers who interpret, manipulate and generate multimedia files, especially for cultural collections available on the Web. Methodologically, the NeOn Methodology guide was used for identification, selection and analysis involving ontological and non-ontological resources available on the Web, namely the ISO MPEG-7, Dublin Core and VRA Core metadata standards and the Media Ontology, COMM and M3 Multimedia ontologies. The results achieved contribute to the prospect of possible solutions for the treatment of the various types of metadata existing for the description of digital cultural collections with multimedia content.

Introduction: this work is based on a historical-sociological approach, with the intention of using the conceptual dialogue of the social sciences with the informational concepts in the reorganization of the culture of the Paiter-Suruí ethnic group in its relation with contemporary culture and the digital world. Far beyond cultural exchanges and impositions, the imperative of acquisition through the social appropriation of technologies, communication and information (ICT) induced the Paiter-Suruí to a cultural adaptation and resistance to the network society. Objective: the paper proposes to present the process of transition from oral memory to digital memory. Methodology: This is a case study with documentary survey of the period of 2006: Paiterey Garah Indigenous Land Management Plan, Ethnozoneament and Oral Transcriptions to the present day of the Paiter-Suruí partnership with Google Inc., bibliographical review of information science, dialoguing with the social sciences. Results: the research reveals the process of cultural transition through social appropriation, reflecting the consequences, pros, cons and perspectives. Conclusions: social appropriation did not replace Paiter-Suruí´s oral tradition. Their expressions extended and the digital media became one of their presentations. The preservation of culture continues to be oral, but virtual sharing with other cultures announces them to the world. Their frontiers expanded beyond the real territory, their virtual expansion allowed them visibility and that, now, their voice echoes.

This article provide analysis about information security using cryptography techniques. After the analyzing different techniques of encryption, we are proposing Advance Encryption Standard (AES). The AES has the better security compared others encryption algorithm and prevent data from Spoofing. It is very efficient in both hardware and software.

Today the objects around us are getting connected with each other in ‘Smart’ ways. Our home, office, industries etc. are connected with each other with the help of latest technologies. Internet of Things is one such technology which is connecting our surroundings very easily. In spite of the successful intervention of IoT in our home automation, office automation, industrial automation etc., the education sector is somewhere laid behind. The educational institutions are very slowly starting understanding the importance and effectiveness of IoT. Use of IoT in daily teaching can completely revolutionize the ways of teaching and learning. The present article emphasizes upon the concept of IoT and how it can very efficiently restructure our traditional education and learning methods.

It discusses the creation and performance of the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System, a Brazilian public agency subordinated to the National Health Foundation. It discusses the aspects related to the right of information to the people assisted, about their own health. It also analyzes the information infrastructure of DATASUS and its relationship with data management in health information. Exploratory-descriptive research, uses bibliographic and documentary procedures for data collection and quantitative and qualitative approach for data analysis. It suggests that Brazilian librarians engage in activities to promote informational competence in health and therefore recommends support in the good practices, models and infrastructures existing in DATASUS.

Infodiversity emerged as a need to encompass and characterize the several information manifestations. On a scenario like an internet, information gets new dimensions, and the discourses can be expanded. Also, the internet can foster freedoms and rights as well as develop new threats and enhance many mechanisms of control, restriction, and surveillance. The first three chapters of the book trace the paths of free access to information on the internet from an infodiversity perspective and examine the different stakeholders that shape free access to information, it also explores the materiality of the internet. The final chapter proposes information policies for the developt of the internet infodiversity.

The purpose of this paper is to explore websites of Social Science Research Institute by Webometrics analysis. This study is based on twenty-nine Social Science Research Institute websites which are sponsored by ICSSR. Webometrics is one of the most important aspects in web era. It is basically a quantitative study of web related phenomena and concerned with measuring aspects of web domains, websites, internal and external links, total age of web pages and social share. Further, this paper also focuses on ranking and metrics of websites of the Social Science Research Institute.This study generalizes that Centre for Policy Research (New Delhi), Gujarat Institute of Development Research (Ahmadabad) and Institute of Developing Studies Kolkata are the most popular websites among the Social Science Research Institutes in India.

Comunicació presentada al 2n Simposi de la Fundació Història del Disseny, celebrat l'any 2018 a Barcelona. En el marco del 50 aniversario de EINA Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona, el Grupo de Investigación en Historia y Estudios de Diseño (GRHED) en colaboración con el Archivo de EINA, han elaborado una cronología que resume los cincuenta años de historia de la entidad, desde su fundación en pleno franquismo, hasta la actualidad. Se trata de un proyecto divulgativo, pero que, sin descuidar el rigor académico, pretende situar a EINA en el contexto histórico-social y cultural de las últimas cinco décadas. El primer bloque de la cronología, correspondiente al periodo 1953-1980, sitúa los antecedentes, la fundación y los primeros años de funcionamiento de la escuela en el contexto de una España franquista que, después de más de una década del final de la Guerra Civil y la fuerte represión inicial, se relaja ligeramente favoreciendo un escenario más propicio para la llegada de nuevas experiencias pedagógicas, que incorporan entre sus principios las ideas de progreso y modernización de la sociedad. Otra de sus principales características es el hecho de haber sido abordada desde la perspectiva de las humanidades digitales. Las humanidades digitales son un área de investigación, docencia y creación en la que convergen los estudios de las diferentes disciplinas relacionadas con la cultura humana y la informática, abordando proyectos como el diseño e implementación de colecciones y repertorios digitales, el análisis y visualización de grandes volúmenes de datos culturales, o la edición digital en nuevos formatos de la producción académica del área de las humanidades. El objetivo de la comunicación es situar el proyecto de cronología de EINA en el contexto de las humanidades digitales, abordando aspectos que van desde la concepción de la propuesta inicial, hasta su diseño final. As part of the 50th anniversary of EINA Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona, the History and Design Studies Research Group (GRHED) and the EINA Archive have produced a chronology that summarises the fifty years of the institution's history, from its foundation at the height of Francoism to the present day. It is an informational project, but one that, without neglecting academic rigour, aims to place EINA in the historical-social and cultural setting of the last five decades. The first part of the chronology, corresponding to the period between 1953 and 1980, places the background, the founding and the early years of the school in the context of a Francoist Spain that, more than a decade after the end of the Civil War and the initial severe repression, has relaxed slightly, favouring a more propitious scenario for the arrival of new educational experiences whose principles incorporate the ideas of progress and modernisation of society. Another of its main characteristics is the fact of having been undertaken from the perspective of the digital humanities. The digital humanities are an area of research, teaching and creation in which the studies of the different disciplines related to human culture and computer science converge, tackling projects such as the design and implementation of collections and digital repertories, the analysis and visualisation of large volumes of cultural data, and digital publishing in new formats of academic production in the humanities. The aim of the paper is to place the EINA chronology project in the context of the digital humanities, addressing aspects that range from the conception of the initial proposal to its final design.

This paper reports on an analysis of the scholarly digital edition of Wittgenstein's Nachlass, produced by the Wittgenstein Archives at the University of Bergen, together with a proposal to extend the ontology currently used to navigate the Nachlass documents, in order to make it conform to the Linked Data principles.

Cultural heritage institutions such as archives, libraries, and museums have the mission of curating and safeguarding societal memories. The patrimonialization and curatorial processes developed by such institutions are continuous value-adding activities. Such institutions are beginning to publish their collections as digital objects on the Web. The representation and publication of cultural heritage records as digital objects using LOD—linked open data—technologies is a new step in patrimonialization and curatorial practices. Many collections are thematically superimposed, complementary, and have synergy. These collections often present culturally relevant relationships between their objects, like a book about a painting or a draft or sketch of a famous painting, etc. This research aims at characterizing such culturally relevant relationships, compiling an inventory, and organizing them in a vocabulary. The implementation of semantic links using LOD technologies can achieve interoperability between digital collections and improve the usability of digital collections, thus empowering heritage institutions.

The Web is the privileged place for seeking information. The potential of the so-called semantic web to enhance retrieval of relevant information seems essential. In Information Science (IS), this idea was developed from the Otlet’s “analogic semantic web”, justifying the connection between the Semantic Web (SW) and the field of IS. We aimed to exam and analyze the presence of subjects related to SW in the output of IS master and PhD courses in Portugal and Brazil (2005-2015). Specifically, we aimed to: identify IS courses, master's dissertations (MD) and PhD thesis (PD) associated to SW; identify the points of confluence between the IS and the SW in these works; characterize the academic profile of these works’ authors and advisors. Based on a qualitative approach, we performed a literature review and an empirical study focused on content analysis of the retrieved works (RCAAP and OASISbr). As results, we have: verified 4 unique records in RCAAP and 40 in OASISbr; identified 4 Master’s and 3 PhD courses (Portugal) and 16 masters and 9 PhD courses (Brazil); retrieved no MD/PD in Portugal, 16 MD and 5 PD in Brazil; identified 3 confluence points: a) mutual contribution (62%), b) WS as an interdisciplinary theme (29%) and c) complementary knowledge (9%); identified 11 works (52%) were the respective researchers have training in IS and Computer Science (CS). The study points to the WS as a field of investigation in IS, although essentially theoretical, insofar as practical interdisciplinary works in CI/CS are incipient and not representative.

The realization of the entry "territorial development" for Wikipedia is described during an editaton of the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), where librarians and researchers participated.

A historical perspective on the development and success of Trove, including the original idea concept, the user centric design principles and social engagement with thousands of volunteers. The Trove service which is now ten years old is used by millions of Australians with the digitised Australian newspapers being the most popular resource. Rose Holley, Special Collections Curator at UNSW Canberra discusses the findings of her research into crowdsourcing based curation. Using the digitised historic Australian Newspapers as an example, she looks at how the functionality and interface was developed in close relationship with the users, and how this led on to text correction of newspaper articles. It is nearly ten years since this pioneering project began and the motivations and achievements of the 50,000 volunteers are examined over this time. She questions how successfully the goal of improving text quality and therefore search has been achieved. She proposes that if a similar project was begun now then artificial intelligence software would be used such as OverProof post OCR correction tool to improve the quality of the text. OverProof has been trained on the manual corrections of the Australian newspaper corpus and trials demonstrate it is able to dramatically improve the quality of the corpus. Volunteer text correction could still continue afterwards for difficult text but the software would do the main donkey work, allowing users to have a better quality search.

The Open Access approach enabled many publishers to make their articles visible for scientists. Although, Open Access publishing many scientists consider as an attractive alternative, the idea was not so fastly and easily accepted in practice. Due to increased visibility many articles are being increasedly cited. But, the quantitative approach to citation and impact factor has been criticized by several authors. Promotion of Open Access to researchers in Serbia has been hard and time-consuming work. Due to a lack of understanding there is a widely-held belief that “free” journals are not rigorously reviewed The main problem is researchers’ doubts about the quality of open scientific journals. However, Open Access is very important approach and it should not be considered as an idea that solves all problems that researchers face in their publishing efforts. The librarians should support researchers to be involved in open access publishing and use existing existing repositories.

Presentation of the differentiated features of SEO when it is applied to the news media sites, considering, among other things, the fact of being content intensive sites and having to manage the double conditioning of SEO and Journalism. There are discussions about the phases of an SEO campaign, presenting the four phases of it. Likewise, the most important positioning factors, both on site and off site, are presented and discussed. In relation to the first, there is also a framework for optimizing news.

The great European libraries devote energies to realize the model of linked data. The analyzed projects cover four countries. France: data.bnf.fr project of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BNF) uses the linked open data to publish and make better use of their data on the Web: the catalogs of the Library and the data of the Gallica digital library. Great Britain: the bnb.data.bl.uk project of the British Library publishes a part of the English national bibliography in linked open data. Germany: Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (DNB) has initiated in 2010 the project of conversion and publication of its authority records in linked open data; in 2012 the Library extended the project to bibliographic records. Spain: the datos.bne.es project of the National Library of Spain reflects the French project, from the three types of treated resources: Composers, Works, Persons.From this brief analysis of the most important European projects of publication of data in linked open data it is possible to draw some reflections: •the FRBR model is strongly recognized in all projects; •they push the limits of existing data, transforming them into linked data; •the same philosophy in all projects: the paradigm of linked data and the Semantic Web; •huge financial investments. The language of the linked data is often accomplished with the simultaneous membership of RDA and BIBFRAME.

The present study is a bibliometric analysis of scholarly researches published on Social Networking Sites (SNSs) and contributed by Library and information Science (LIS) authors across the Globe. The study is based on world’s largest indexing database Scopus. The required data were retrieved from Scopus database to analyze the yearly publication trend, authorship pattern, degree of collaboration, geographical distribution, prolific authors, favoring journals, citation impact and other such facets of literatures published on Social Networking Sites during the starting of the years to 31st of December, 2015. A total numbers of 113 research documents have been retrieved for this study and seen a steady growth of literatures, multi authorship trend, less collaborative intensity, United States as most contributing nation, The Electronic Library as leading journal and good citation impact of the publications etc. As the day to day life of present day human civilization is driven by Social Networking and they expect more from its dynamic implications, the literatures published on it will definitely be helpful for its users as well the researchers.

The National Central Library of Florence takes care of and develops semantic indexing tools which are usable in libraries, archives, museums, and other cultural institutions. In the last few years, the interoperability between Nuovo Soggettario and other knowledge organization systems, accessible for free on the Web, has increased significantly in order to give users the opportunity to search and identify relevant information from among vast collections and other resources. In this context, one of the most interesting experiences has been the mapping between Nuovo Soggettario Thesaurus’s concepts/terms and DDC’s concepts/notations (in WebDewey Italian version) established and maintained by the BNCF. The criteria adopted for the creation of concordances between equivalent concepts are being clarified continually and are in compliance with the latest international standards and suggestions of the EDUG group (European DDC Users Group). Thanks to the collaboration with AIB, the interaction between the two tools is visible not only in the record of Nuovo Soggettario terms but also in the WebDewey (IT) notations in which the Nuovo Soggettario verbal equivalents are next to those of the LCSH.

Linked open data and the semantic Web request an essential ‘preinvestment’, namely in form of an as much as complete and consequent production of standardized metadata and/or the usage of the regarding authority files if possible by all the institutions of memory. In Germany – like in the major part of the other countries of the western hemisphare – the standardized output of metadata or better the usage and the development of the authority files is much more advanced in the library world than in the areas of archives and museums. Consequently the German librarian authority file, the so called ‘Common authority file’ (GND – Gemeinsame Normdatendatei), is growing not only steadly, but dynamicly. The GND is the result of a long lasting cooperation between the DNB – German National Library and the six regional/interregional library networks of today in Germany as well as of the Austrian Library Network (ÖVB) or more precisely of their respective authority file redactions. More and more the relevant authority file is applicated also outside the library world in interdisciplinary projects where also archives and museums are participating. Examples of this type of cooperation are: •the German National Biography in its online-version (key word: beacon) •the German Digital National Library, DDB (key word: Entity Facts-Service of the DNB) •Wikipedia (with the usage of the results of the international project VIAF) •Bavarikon, the cultural portal of Bavaria In the near future or next steps in this field are regarding the visualisation of the search results under various aspects. That will be one of the prior objectives.
