Intensive lifestyle intervention (ILI) is essential for diabetes management. The Weight Achievement and Intensive Treatment (Why WAIT) program is a 12-week multidisciplinary weight management program that has been implemented in real-world clinical practice and has shown long-term maintenance of weight reduction for 5 years. During COVID-19 pandemic, the program went virtual using telemedicine and mobile-applications (Healthimation and Good Measures™). We evaluated the outcomes of virtual program (VP) in comparison to in-person physical program (PP). Sixteen subjects were enrolled in VP and were compared to 22 subjects who completed the last 2 PPs. Body weight decreased by -16.49±8 lbs. (-7 % ± 0.3%) from baseline in VP (p In conclusion, virtual multidisciplinary ILI is as effective as the in-person physical program in improving body weight, A1C, BP, lipid profile and in reducing the number of anti-hyperglycemic medications. These results suggest that scaling the Why WAIT program in a virtual format to a larger population of patients with diabetes and obesity is potentially as successful as the costly in-person program. This is a report on the third in a series of petascale workshops co-sponsored by Blue Waters and TeraGrid to address challenges and opportunities for making effective use of emerging extreme-scale computing. This workshop was held to discuss fault tolerance on large systems for running large, possibly long-running applications. The main point of the workshop was to have systems people, middleware people (including fault-tolerance experts), and applications people talk about the issues and figure out what needs to be done, mostly at the middleware and application levels, to run such applications on the emerging petascale systems, without having faults cause large numbers of application failures. The workshop found that there is considerable interest in fault tolerance, resilience, and reliability of high-performance computing (HPC) systems in general, at all levels of HPC. The only way to recover from faults is through the use of some redundancy, either in space or in time. Redundancy in time, in the form of writing checkpoints to disk and restarting at the most recent checkpoint after a fault that cause an application to crash/halt, is the most common tool used in applications today, but there are questions about how long this can continue to be amore » good solution as systems and memories grow faster than I/O bandwidth to disk. There is interest in both modifications to this, such as checkpoints to memory, partial checkpoints, and message logging, and alternative ideas, such as in-memory recovery using residues. We believe that systematic exploration of these ideas holds the most promise for the scientific applications community. Fault tolerance has been an issue of discussion in the HPC community for at least the past 10 years; but much like other issues, the community has managed to put off addressing it during this period. There is a growing recognition that as systems continue to grow to petascale and beyond, the field is approaching the point where we don't have any choice but to address this through R&D efforts.« less

Measurements of inclusive cross sections at 100 GeV/c are presented for the double-charge-exchange reactions a/sup +/p ..-->.. ..pi../sup -/X with a = ..pi.., K, or p. The measurements covered a kinematic range in the Feynman x variable of 0.3 < or = x < or = 0.9 at transverse momenta of 0.3 and 0.5 GeV/c. A model summing the contributions from resonance production and from inclusive central-region ..pi../sup -/ production is used to fit the data and demonstrates the importance of resonance production via one-pion exchange for large values of the Feynman x.

We present high-statistics results on the reactions a + p ..-->.. c + X where a and c can be any of ..pi../sup +/, K/sup + -/, p, or p-bar. The data were taken at 100 and 175 GeV/c incident momenta using the Fermilab Single-Arm Spectrometer operated over the kinematic range 0.2 < x < 1.0 and p/sub t/ < or = 1.0 GeV/c. Investigating the x dependence of the data, we find agreement with a quark-parton picture, namely the cross sections have a power-law behavior in 1 - x independent of p/sub beam/ and p/sub t/.

Pseudorapidity distributions for proton-nucleus interactions are presented. The data cover twelve nuclei ranging from carbon to uranium and three incident proton momenta, 50, 100, and 200 GeV/c.

Average multiplicities and pseudorapidity distributions for 100-GeV/c p-, K/sup +/-, and ..pi../sup +/-nucleus collisions are presented. The average multiplicities increase with nuclear thickness. The fractional increase is independent of incident particle species, provided that nuclear thicknesses are calculated in units of mean free path of the incident hadron. This scaling behavior suggests that the immediate product of a hadron-nucleon collision is a state similar to the incident hadron.

Quark structure functions have been extracted from low-p/sub T/ inclusive hadron production data for the pion and kaon with use of the recombination model. n/sup ..pi../=1.0 +- 0.1 and n/sup K/=2.5 +- 0.6 is obtained, where n is the leading (1-x) power of the nonstrange--valence-quark distribution. Both the pion and kaon nonstrange--sea-quark functions have napprox. =3.5.

An experiment using the Fermilab Single Arm Spectrometer (SAS) facility and an associated nonmagnetic vertex detector studied the reactions a+p→c+X, where a and c were π±, K±, p, or p¯. Extensive measurements were made at 100 and 175 GeV/c beam momenta with the outgoing hadrons detected in the SAS covering a kinematic range 0.12

Results are presented on the inclusive scattering process a+p→c+X where a and c are any of π±, K±, p or p. The data were taken at 100 and 175 GeV/c incident momentum using the Fermilab Single Arm Spectrometer. A vertex detector was also used to measure the associated charged multiplicity. The x dependences of the inclusive cross section exhibit the power law behavior expected from various fragmentation models.

Most of the analytical work on slotted Aloha has been concerned with maximizing the utilization. The delay experienced by a transmission has not been a primary issue. In this note we take the opposite point of view. It is assumed that the system is operating far below capacity (as is typical in practice), and we concern ourselves with the problem of minimizing packet delay in the event of a collision. The retry distribution that minimizes the average delay is derived. Surprisingly, the optimal retry distribution has finite support, and in fact, one never waits more than three slots before retransmitting.
