Introduction Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a procedure performed under general anaesthesia involving triggering an intentional brief seizure through small electrical currents through the brain. The anaesthetic depth should be adequate prior to shock and measured with BIS, a processed electroencephalogram (EEG) monitor. Adjusting the hypnotic dose allows to decrease the ictal threshold and thus improve the response to treatment and decrease side effects. Objectives Our goal is detecting elements such as spontaneous epileptiform activity after ECT without tonic-clonic activity with the spectral density matrix (SDM). Methods Our patient: an 87-year-old woman, diagnosed with F20.2 catatonic schizophrenia and under antipsychotic treatment since her youth. She has required multiple hospital admissions due to psychopathological decompensations until starting monthly maintenance ECT sessions in 2014. Since then she no new hospital admissions have been required. Results Images 1D and 1E shows the SDM, a spectrogram of the EEG. The X axis show time (minutes), the Y axis shows the frequency (Hz) and the Z axis shows the energy or intensity of that electrical activity in the frequency bands replaced by colors: warm colors (red) reflecting high intensity electroencephalographic activity and cool colors (yellow, blue and green), low activity. Images 2 and 3’s EDM shows spontaneous epileptiform activity after electroconvulsive therapy without tonic-clonic activity. We observed an initial EDM of an awake patient, with warm colours in practically all frequency bands, including the beta band (13-30 Hz), characteristic of waking states. Around 9:50 anaesthetic induction occurs, activity increases in slow frequencies (red colours in alpha, theta and delta), plus an increase of cold colours in beta, reflecting the disappearance of brain activity in that frequency. The asterisk reflects the EEG response to the electrical discharge, followed by a postcritical state with brain activity exclusively in slow waves and high amplitude (delta and some theta) and absence of activity in other frequencies (blue colour in the beta and alpha bands) around 9:57. At about 10:00 there is an abrupt appearance of high intensity brain activity (warm colours) in beta and alpha and delta, mainly, reflecting spontaneous epileptiform activity after treatment and clinically reflected as a patient absent and disconnected from the environment, but without tonic-clonic activity. New postcritical state in which blue colour predominates, reflecting little brain activity, and warmer colours reappear in all frequency bands, including beta, reflecting the progressive recovery of wakefulness. Image: Image 2: Image 3: Conclusions Psychiatric pathology can be reflected in the SDM, which allows to observe changes in the EEG, correcting the electrical stimulus of the shock and the dose of anesthetic appropriate to the patient to trigger an intentional brief seizure under general anesthesia. A model has been developed to characterize the cavitation phenomenon in dredging centrifugal pumps. The operating parameters of a cutter type dredger: swing speed, dredging depth, and inclination, impeller rpm, as well as slurry characterizations such as density and velocity, are introduced, to determine how they influence the operation of the dredge pump. The geometric characterization of the hydraulic transport system of the dredger was performed. With the dredge operationaĺs parameters, along with the geometric characterization, the pump is modeled in CFD turbomachinery software. To validate the operational points, the CFD model considers the RNG k-ε model and the cavitating-multiphase flow. Through the central composite experiment design, the operating conditions range of the dredger is determined, in which the pump can operate and cavitate. This allows validating the model for different operational points. Finally, multiple regression shows the influence of each of the variables in the response obtained. Furthermore, the regression allows an understanding that operating conditions of the dredger must be adjusted to mitigate the phenomenon of cavitation in the dredging process. The Extreme Universe Space Observatory on a Super Pressure Balloon 1 (EUSO-SPB1) was launched in 2017 April from Wanaka, New Zealand. The plan of this mission of opportunity on a NASA super pressure balloon test flight was to circle the southern hemisphere. The primary scientific goal was to make the first observations of ultra-high-energy cosmic-ray extensive air showers (EASs) by looking down on the atmosphere with an ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence telescope from suborbital altitude (33~km). After 12~days and 4~hours aloft, the flight was terminated prematurely in the Pacific Ocean. Before the flight, the instrument was tested extensively in the West Desert of Utah, USA, with UV point sources and lasers. The test results indicated that the instrument had sensitivity to EASs of approximately 3 EeV. Simulations of the telescope system, telescope on time, and realized flight trajectory predicted an observation of about 1 event assuming clear sky conditions. The effects of high clouds were estimated to reduce this value by approximately a factor of 2. A manual search and a machine-learning-based search did not find any EAS signals in these data. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a Nuclear Medicine technique that creates images that allow the study of metabolic activity and organ function using radiopharmaceuticals. Continuous improvement of scintillation detectors for radiation in PET as well as improvement in electronic detectors (e.g., SiPMs) and signal processing, makes the field of PET a fast and changing environment. If industry desires to build new systems implementing these technological improvements, it is of its interest to develop modelling strategies that can provide information on how to build them, reducing time and material costs. Bearing this in mind three different PET configurations, were simulated in Geant4, to determine which one presented the best performance according to quality parameters such as spatial resolution (SR), coincident time resolution (CTR) and acceptance value (A). This was done with three different (in size) pairs of LYSO crystals + SiPM detectors. It was found that the 2 Modules system presented worst results than the two Ring detector configurations. Between the Ring configurations the first was marginally better than the second.

16. Evaluation of the Production of Starch from Bitter Cassava (Manihot utilissima) using Different Methodologies

Cassava is a shrub belonging to euphorbiaceous family, widely cultivated in South America, Africa and the Pacific because of its roots with starches of high nutritional value. There is a variety called Manihot utilissima or bitter cassava, which contains high concentrations of cyanogenic elements that make it unusable and poisonous raw material which avoided for human consumption, while the high concentrations of carbohydrates place it as a potential source of starch mainly for industrial use. The wet extraction method was used to get starch from bitter cassava (Manihot utilissima). A factorial (2x3) design was implemented for the experimental set up, with 2 levels of time and mincer speed and 2 for the temperature of H2O, with 2 independent replicates. The comparison with the dry extraction method was also studied, this method consists in drying the bitter cassava over night at 50°C. The yield of starch obtained in wet method ranged from 17.2 to 39.4 g of starch (mean of 26.6 g) obtained from the original samples of 250 g of wet bitter cassava, yielding yields ranging from 6.88 to 15.76% (average 10.64%) of the dry mass. The results were then analysed using PAST software v3.16 for ANOVA statistical evaluation, trend and Pareto were used to determine optimal conditions for the extraction of starch by wet and dry methods. Once the assumptions for analysis of variance (ANOVA) were made, it was concluded that a higher yield of starch is obtained from lower speeds and time, whereas the temperature of H2O is not significant for the process, giving as optimal value for wet method = 0.0678762 for 1/x of the yield of starch obtained, with a starch purity of 64.90% ± 1.21% ranging up to 85.37% ± 1.42%. The extraction of bitter cassava starch has demonstrated its potential for the use of this variety of cassava which generates an added value to the product.

En la producción de celulosa bacteriana por el método estático, el factor de rendimiento Yp/s es afectado por la concentración de glucosa inicial y el tiempo de fermentación. Bajas concentraciones dan valores altos de Yp/s al inicio de la fermentación, mientras que altas concentraciones requieren tiempos largos para lograr valores comparables. El área superficial aumenta la producción de celulosa, pero existe una relación (área interfacial/volumen de medio) límite a partir de la cual la celulosa producida por unidad de área comienza a descender. Existe una relación lineal entre el espesor relativo de película, definido como (altura de película húmeda/altura de líquido), y el área por unidad de volumen de medio. El espesor relativo límite (altura de película = altura de líquido) se encontraría para una relación área- volumen teórica de 1,1 cm-1, pero en la práctica se determinó que este valor es de 0,8 cm-1 para no afectar el rendimiento de celulosa.

23. Quantum backreaction of $O(N)$-symmetric scalar fields and de Sitter spacetimes at the renormalization point: renormalization schemes and the screening of the cosmological constant

We consider a theory of $N$ self-interacting quantum scalar fields with quartic $O(N)$-symmetric potential, with a coupling constant $\lambda$, in a generic curved spacetime. We analyze the renormalization process of the Semiclassical Einstein Equations at leading order in the $1/N$ expansion for different renormailzation schemes, namely: the traditional one that sets the geometry of the spacetime to be Minkowski at the renormalization point, and new schemes (originally proposed in [1,2]) which set the geometry to be that of a fixed de Sitter spacetime. In particular, we study the quantum backreaction for fields in de Sitter spacetimes with masses much smaller than the expansion rate $H$. We find that the scheme that uses the classical de Sitter background solution at the renormalization point, stands out as the most appropriate to study the quantum effects on de Sitter spacetimes. Adopting such scheme we obtain the backreaction is suppressed by $H^2/M_{pl}^2$ with no logarithmic enhancement factor of $\ln{\lambda}$, giving only a small screening of the classical cosmological constant due to the backreaction of such quantum fields. We point out the use of the new schemes can also be more appropriate than the traditional one to study quantum effects in other spacetimes relevant for cosmology., Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures; v2 agrees with the published version; in v2 we introduced new clarifications and we replaced the figures by new ones in order to fix a mistake in v1 and to provide additional details of the results

Les marchés publics représentent un enjeu économique important (200 à 300 milliards de francs par an). En France, ces marchés sont encadrés par une ré-glementation complexe régie en particulier par le code des marchés publics. Le nombre des marchés (150 à 200 000 par an) ainsi que la diversité des documents et des procédures qui s'y rattachent, justifient le développement de logiciels spécifiques. Après une analyse du contexte particulier des marchés publics, l'auteur de ce dossier décrit les fonctionnalités des différents logiciels développés pour le compte des services du ministère de l'Equipement ; ces logiciels étant par ailleurs utilisés par différents services privés ou publics, des collectivités territoriales, des services de l'Etat et notamment des DDAF. Un chapitre particulier est consacré aux nouvelles perspectives ouvertes par le développement des systèmes d'échanges de données informatisées (EDI).

EUSO-Balloon is a pathfinder mission for the Extreme Universe Space Observatory onboard the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM-EUSO). It was launched on the moonless night of the 25$^{th}$ of August 2014 from Timmins, Canada. The flight ended successfully after maintaining the target altitude of 38 km for five hours. One part of the mission was a 2.5 hour underflight using a helicopter equipped with three UV light sources (LED, xenon flasher and laser) to perform an inflight calibration and examine the detectors capability to measure tracks moving at the speed of light. We describe the helicopter laser system and details of the underflight as well as how the laser tracks were recorded and found in the data. These are the first recorded laser tracks measured from a fluorescence detector looking down on the atmosphere. Finally, we present a first reconstruction of the direction of the laser tracks relative to the detector., Comment: 18 pages, 14 figures

We report on the magnetic and structural properties of ferromagnetic-insulating La$_2$CoMnO$_6$ thin films grown on top of (001) STO substrates by means of RF sputtering technique. Careful structural analysis, by using synchrotron X-ray diffraction, allows identifying two different crystallographic orientations that are closely related to oxygen stoichiometry and to the features (coercive fields and remanence) of the hysteresis loops. Both Curie temperature and magnetic hysteresis turn out to be dependent on the oxygen stoichiometry. In situ annealing conditions allow tailoring the oxygen content of the films, therefore controlling their microstructure and magnetic properties.

Working in the Hartree truncation of the two-particle irreducible (2PI) effective action, we compute the vacuum expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor of the scalar field, which act as a source of the SEE. We obtain the renormalized SEE by implementing a consistent renormalization procedure. The quantum effects are taken into account nonperturbatively using the Hartree approximation to the 2PI effective action. Although this approximation has been considered in many previous works, we reconsider it using a consistent nonperturbative renormalization procedure, which we extend to general curved spacetimes. We obtain the renormalized equations for the mean field and for the propagator of the fluctuations, showing explicitly their independence on the arbitrary scale introduced by the regularization scheme. We apply our results to the particular case of de Sitter spacetime and discuss spontaneous symmetry breaking. Herein, we determined if a multi-ingredient supplement (NAD3; 312 mg of combined Wasabia japonica extract, theacrine, and copper (I)niacin chelate) versus a placebo (CTL) affected peripheral blood mononuclear (PMBC) transcriptomic, DNA methylation, and sirtuin activity profiles in middle-aged adults after 12 weeks of supplementation. Several mRNAs demonstrated interactions (n = 148 at ±1.5-fold change, p < 0.01), and more stringent filtering indicated that 25 mRNAs were upregulated and 29 were downregulated in the NAD3 versus CTL group. Bioinformatics on these 64 mRNAs suggested that DNA conformational alterations may have been promoted with NAD3 supplementation, and this was corroborated with more CpG sites being hypermethylated (p < 0.001) in the CTL versus the NAD3 group when examining pre- to post-intervention changes (369 versus 35). PBMC SIRT activity decreased in CTL participants (p < 0.001), but not in NAD3 participants (p = 0.289), and values at 12 weeks trended higher in NAD3 participants (p = 0.057). Interestingly, the pre- to post- changes in SIRT activity values significantly correlated with changes in PBMC NAD+: NADH values obtained from a previous investigation in these participants (r = 0.534, p = 0.015). In conclusion, the current mRNA and DNA methylation data indirectly suggest that NAD3 supplementation may affect PBMC DNA conformation, while other direct assays suggest that NAD3 supplementation maintains SIRT activity through the potential maintenance of NAD+: NADH levels. However, these results are preliminary due to limited n-sizes and the study being performed in middle-aged adults.

We consider an interacting Lifshitz field with z=3 in a curved spacetime. We analyze the renormalizability of the theory for interactions of the form lambda phi^n, with arbitrary even n. We compute the running of the coupling constants both in the ultraviolet and infrared regimes. We show that the Lorentz violating terms generate couplings to the spacetime metric that are not invariant under general coordinate transformations. These couplings are not suppressed by the scale of Lorentz violation and therefore survive at low energies. We point out that in these theories, unless the effective mass of the field is many orders of magnitude below the scale of Lorentz violation, the coupling to the four dimensional Ricci scalar xi (4)R phi^2 does not receive large quantum corrections xi >> 1., Comment: 17 pages. 48. Instabilities in dark coupled models and constraints from cosmological data

Coupled dark matter-dark energy systems can suffer from non-adiabatic instabilities at early times and large scales. In these proceedings, we consider two parameterizations of the dark sector interaction. In the first one the energy-momentum transfer 4-vector is parallel to the dark matter 4-velocity and in the second one to the dark energy 4-velocity. In these cases, coupled models which suffer from non-adiabatic instabilities can be identified as a function of a generic coupling Q and of the dark energy equation of state. In our analysis, we do not refer to any particular cosmic field. We confront then a viable class of models in which the interaction is directly proportional to the dark energy density and to the Hubble rate parameter to recent cosmological data. In that framework, we show that correlations between the dark coupling and several cosmological parameters allow for a larger neutrino mass than in uncoupled models., Comment: To be published in the proceedings of the Invisible Universe International Conference (Paris, 29 June - 3 July 2009)

An anomalous (inverse) spin accumulation in the nonmagnetic spacer may build up when the spin valve consists of magnetic films having different spin symmetries. This leads to wavy-like dependence of spin-transfer torque on the angle between magnetizations, as predicted by spin-dependent diffusive transport model, and also confirmed experimentally. Making use of these predictions, we have numerically studied the magnetization dynamics in presence of such a wavy-torque in Co(8 nm)/Cu(10 nm)/Py(8 nm) nanopillar, considering geometry with extended and etched Co layer. In both cases we specify conditions for the out-of-plane precession to appear in absence of external magnetic field and neglecting thermal fluctuations. We prove the assumption of wavy-like torque angular dependence to be fully consistent with experimental observations. We also show that some features reported experimentally, like nonlinear slope of frequency vs. current behavior, are beyond the applicability range of macrospin approximation and can be explained only by means of full micromagnetic analysis., Comment: 9 pages, 11 figures

We perform a systematic study of the phenomenology associated to models where the dark matter consists in the neutral component of a scalar SU(2)_L n-uplet, up to n=7. If one includes only the pure gauge induced annihilation cross-sections it is known that such particles provide good dark matter candidates, leading to the observed dark matter relic abundance for a particular value of their mass around the TeV scale. We show that these values actually become ranges of values -which we determine- if one takes into account the annihilations induced by the various scalar couplings appearing in these models. This leads to predictions for both direct and indirect detection signatures as a function of the dark matter mass within these ranges. Both can be largely enhanced by the quartic coupling contributions. We also explain how, if one adds right-handed neutrinos to the scalar doublet case, the results of this analysis allow to have altogether a viable dark matter candidate, successful generation of neutrino masses, and leptogenesis in a particularly minimal way with all new physics at the TeV scale., Comment: 43 pages, 20 figures
