Abstract

This paper concerns the problem on the fuzzy synchronization for a kind of disturbed memristive chaotic system. First, based on fuzzy theory, the fuzzy model for a memristive chaotic system is presented; next, based on H-infinity technique, a multidimensional fuzzy controller and a single-dimensional fuzzy controller are designed to realize the synchronization of master-slave chaotic systems with disturbances. Finally, some typical examples are included to illuminate the correctness of the given control method.

Abstract

The largest uncertainty in the estimation of climate forcing stems from atmospheric aerosols. In early spring and summer of 2009, two periods of in-situ measurements on aerosol physical and chemical properties were conducted within the HaChi (Haze in China) project at Wuqing, a town between Beijing and Tianjin in the North China Plain (NCP). Aerosol optical properties, including the scattering coefficient (σsp), the hemispheric back scattering coefficient (σbsp), the absorption coefficient (σap), as well as the single scattering albedo (ω), are presented. The diurnal and seasonal variations are analyzed together with meteorology and satellite data. The mean values of σsp, 550 nm of the dry aerosol in spring and summer are 280±253 and 379±251 Mm−1, respectively. The average σap for the two periods is respectively 47±38 and 43±27 Mm−1. The mean values of ω at the wavelength of 637 nm are 0.82±0.05 and 0.86±0.05 for spring and summer, respectively. The relative high levels of σsp and σbsp are representative of the regional aerosol pollution in the NCP. Pronounced diurnal cycle of $σsp, σap and ω are found, mainly influenced by the evolution of boundary layer and the accumulation of local emissions during nighttime. The pollutants transported from the southwest of the NCP are more significant than that from the two megacities, Beijing and Tianjin, in both spring and summer. An optical closure experiment is conducted to better understand the uncertainties of the measurements. Good correlations (R>0.98) are found between the values measured by the nephelometer and the values calculated with a modified Mie model. The Monte Carlo simulation shows an uncertainty of about 30 % for the calculations. Considering all possible uncertainties of measurements, calculated σsp and σbsp agree well with the measured values, indicating a stable performance of instruments and thus reliable aerosol optical data.

Abstract

North China Plain (NCP) is one of the most densely populated regions in China and has experienced enormous economic growth in the past decades. Its regional trace gas pollution has also become one of the top environmental concerns in China. Measurements of surface trace gases, including O3, NOx, SO2 and CO were carried out within the HaChi (Haze in China) project at Wuqing Meteorology Station, located between 2 mega-cities (Beijing and Tianjin) in the NCP, from 9 July 2009 to 21 January 2010. Detailed statistical analyses were made in order to provide information on the levels of the measured air pollutants and their characteristics. Gaseous air pollutant concentrations were also studied together with meteorological data and satellite data to help us better understand the causes of the observed variations in the trace gases during the field campaign. In comparison to measurements from other rural and background stations in the NCP, relatively high concentrations were detected in Wuqing, presumably due to regional mixing and transport of pollutants. Local meteorology had deterministic impacts on air pollution levels, which have to be accounted for when evaluating other effects on pollutant concentrations. Trace gas concentrations showed strong dependence on wind, providing information on regional pollution characteristics. O3 mixing ratio also showed clear dependencies on temperature and relative humidity.

Abstract

Measurements of ozone and its precursors conducted within the HaChi (Haze in China) project in summer 2009 were analyzed to characterize volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and their effects on ozone photochemical production at a suburban site in the North China Plain (NCP). Ozone episodes, during which running 8-h average ozone concentrations exceeding 80 ppbv lasted for more than 4 h, occurred on about two thirds of the observational days during the 5-week field campaign. This suggests continuous ozone exposure risks in this region in the summer. Average concentrations of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and VOCs are about 20 ppbv and 650 ppbC, respectively. On average, total VOC reactivity is dominated by anthropogenic VOCs. The contribution of biogenic VOCs to total ozone-forming potential, however, is also considerable in the daytime. Key species associated with ozone photochemical production are 2-butenes (18 %), isoprene (15 %), trimethylbenzenes (11 %), xylenes (8.5 %), 3-methylhexane (6 %), n-hexane (5 %) and toluene (4.5 %). Formation of ozone is found to be NOx-limited as indicated by measured VOCs/NOx ratios and further confirmed by a sensitivity study using a photochemical box model NCAR_MM. The Model simulation suggests that ozone production is also sensitive to changes in VOC reactivity under the NOx-limited regime, although this sensitivity depends strongly on how much NOx is present.

6. Investigation into loss in ferrofluid magnetization

Abstract

Ferrofluids containing γ-Fe2O3/Ni2O3 nanoparticles (not chemically treated) were synthesized using water and mixed water–glycerol as carrier liquid and the ferrofluid viscosity was modified by varying the glycerol content in the carrier liquid. The apparent magnetization of the ferrofluids decreased with increasing glycerol content. The loss in magnetization is described by the ratio of effective magnetic volume fraction to physical volume fraction of nanoparticles in the ferrofluids as a characteristic parameter. We ascribe the loss to the formation of “dead aggregates” having a ring-like structure of closed magnetic flux rather than to any chemical reaction. Such dead aggregates exist in zero magnetic field and do not contribute to the magnetization in the low or high field regime, so that the effective magnetic volume fraction in the ferrofluids decrease. An increase in carrier liquid viscosity is similar to a weakening of the thermal effect, so the number of dead aggregates increases and the magnetization decreases in inverse proportion to the viscosity. This relationship between the apparent magnetization and ferrofluid carrier liquid viscosity can be termed the “viscomagnetic effect”.

Abstract

Mendelian randomization is a causal inference method using genetic variations as instrumental variables, which skillfully takes advantages of the distributive randomness and timing priority of genetic variation, effectively avoiding confounding biases and reverse causalities in traditional observational researches. It has become a research hotspot in recent years. As a complex inflammatory disease, periodontitis is associated with many factors, but the cognitions about these associations are mostly based on traditional observational studies, lacking strong evidences to infer the causality. Abstract

Chinese jujube (Ziziphus jujuba) is an important fruit tree in China. Jujube witches' broom (JWB) disease, caused by JWB phytoplasma (‘Candidatus phytoplasma ziziphi’), is the most devastating infectious disease of the jujube tree. Lipoxygenase (LOX) plays important roles in the jasmonic acid (JA) biosynthesis pathway and plant defense to biotic stresses. In this study, we identified 13 LOX genes in the jujube genome distributed on 5 chromosomes. The ZjLOX proteins were classified into two categories based on phylogenetic analysis. We tracked gene duplication events and found two sets of tandem repeats on chromosome 2. We predicted the promoters of the ZjLOXs using PlantCARE and found a large number of cis elements that may respond to phytohormones, light, and biological stresses. Transcriptomic, proteomic, and qRT-PCR expression analyses showed that ZjLOX02, ZjLOX05, ZjLOX06 and ZjLOX08 may play important roles in the interaction between jujube and phytoplasma. This study provides a foundation for better understanding both the molecular evolution of the jujube LOX gene family and the response of the ZjLOX genes to JWB phytoplasma infection.

Abstract

Circadian rhythm is an internal autonomous timing mechanism formed by the body in response to changes of external environment. It participates in the regulations of various physiological activities, affecting the formation and outcome of various diseases in the human body. This paper summarizes the changes of local tissue rhythms in common disease states, such as oral and maxillofacial malformations, inflammation and malignant tumors. The importance of circadian clock system to the activities of oral and maxillofacial tissues are dialectically analyzed, mainly on the mechanisms of action in maintaining oral health and in affecting the processes of common oral diseases and oral-related systemic diseases. Today, there is greater awareness on the association between oral diseases and respiration diseases after the outbreak of COVID-19. However, confusion regarding the oral health management and medical risk prevention for patients with chronic airway diseases has been remained among dental clinicians. Therefore, the dental experts of the Fifth General Dentistry Special Committee, Chinese Stomatological Association, combined with the experts of respiratory and critical care medicine, undertook the formation of consensus on the oral health management of patients with chronic airway diseases in order to help dental clinicians to evaluate medical risks and make better treatment decision in clinical practice. Abstract

With the aging process of population in the society, the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in China is increasing continuously and the number of dental patients with CVD is increasing gradually too. Due to the lack of guidelines for dental patients with CVD in our country, how to implement standardized preoperative evaluation and perioperative risk prevention remains a problem to be solved for dentists at present. The present expert consensus was reached by combining the clinical experiences of the expert group of the Fifth General Dentistry Special Committee, Chinese Stomatological Association and respiratory and cardiology experts in diagnosis and treatment for CVD patients, and by systematically summarizing the relevant international guidelines and literature regarding the relationship between CVD and oral diseases and the diagnosis and treatment of dental patients with heart failure, hypertension and antithrombotic therapy. Abstract

Terrestrial mud volcanoes (MVs) represent the surface expression of conduits tapping fluid and gas reservoirs in the deep subsurface. Such plumbing channels provide a direct, effective means to extract deep microbial communities fueled by geologically produced gases and fluids. The drivers accounting for the diversity and composition of these MV microbial communities, which are distributed over a wide geographic range, remain elusive. This study characterized the variation in microbial communities in 15 terrestrial MVs across a distance of ∼ 10 000 km on the Eurasian continent to test the validity of distance control and physiochemical factors in explaining biogeographic patterns. Our analyses yielded diverse community compositions with a total of 28 928 amplicon sequence variances (ASVs) taxonomically assigned to 73 phyla. While no true cosmopolitan member was found, ∼ 85 % of ASVs were confined within a single MV. Community variance between MVs appeared to be higher and more stochastically controlled than within MVs, generating a slope of the distance–decay relationship exceeding those for marine seeps and MVs as well as seawater columns. For comparison, physiochemical parameters explained 12 % of community variance, with the chloride concentration being the most influential factor. Overall, the apparent lack of fluid exchange renders terrestrial MVs a patchy habitat, with microbiomes diverging stochastically with distance and consisting of dispersal-limited colonists that are highly adapted to the local environmental context.

Abstract

The transcription factor Wilms’ tumor 1 (WT1) is involved in development, tissue homeostasis, and disease. However, the exact roles and the mechanisms of WT1 in renal carcinoma are not well understood. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the ability of WT1 to block proliferation in renal carcinoma cells in vitro. Experimental analysis showed that WT1 overexpression inhibited the proliferation of renal carcinoma A498 cells and promoted arrest at the G2/M checkpoint. RNA-Seq identified differentially expressed genes, including IL-24, related to both the cell proliferation and the cell cycle. WT1 overexpression upregulated IL-24 expression, and IL-24 overexpression induced G2/M arrest. ChIP-Seq identified JUN as a direct target of WT1 in A498 cells, in which positive regulation was shown by RT-qPCR. It has been shown that the transcription factor JUN can regulate IL-24 expression, and therefore, we hypothesize that WT1 might regulate the IL-24 through JUN. Furthermore, analysis based on TCGA datasets showed that the expression of WT1-regulated genes, including TXNIP and GADD45A, was significantly correlated with the stage and histological grade of tumors, with high levels linked to favorable prognoses. Our results demonstrated that the overexpression of WT1 upregulates IL-24, leading to G2/M checkpoint arrest to reduce proliferation. These results indicate that regulation of IL-24 by WT1 inhibits proliferation and may represent a potential target for treating renal carcinoma.

Abstract

Vitis aestivalis-derived ‘Norton’ is the official grape of the State of Missouri, grown in regions with high disease pressure and cold winter temperatures, where Vitis vinifera is not adapted. It reportedly offers an abundance of traits, including resistance to powdery and downy mildew as well as botrytis bunch rot, which can be used to naturally improve existing V. vinifera germplasm. To identify genetic determinants for resistance to downy mildew caused by Plasmopara viticola and botrytis bunch rot caused by Botrytis cinerea in V. aestivalis-derived ‘Norton’, a mapping population of 182 individuals was constructed from a cross between ‘Norton’ and V. vinifera ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’. A consensus genetic map was constructed with 411 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. In collaboration with VitisGen (http://www.vitisgen.org), approximately 43,320 single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers generated by genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) were identified, and a consensus map of 3825 SNPs was developed. Of these, 1665 SNP and 407 SSR markers were clustered into 19 linkage groups, for a total of 2072 markers spanning a genetic distance of 2203.5 cM. In preparation for placing traits on this integrated high-resolution map, disease progression and resistance reaction in response to P. viticola and B. cinerea were evaluated in this population for 2 years. The quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis indicated major resistance loci on linkage group 18 for downy mildew and linkage group 2 for botrytis bunch rot, respectively. The ultimate goal of this program is to use genetic markers to rapidly deploy favorable alleles and accelerate breeding cycles for new cultivar releases.

Abstract

Surgical treatment for stage IV breast cancer remains controversial. Therefore, we aimed to further explore the impact of surgery on survival in patients with stage IV breast cancer using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. We selected 3,822 patients diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer from 2010 to 2012 in the SEER database who were divided into surgery and non-surgery groups. We assessed the breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) and overall survival (OS) of the two groups using Kaplan-Meier plots and Cox proportional hazard regression models. In addition, we performed stratification analyses of breast subtype, tumor size and status of distant metastasis to identify the effects of these factors on surgical outcomes. The median survival times were 30 and 24 months in the surgery and non-surgery groups, respectively. The Kaplan-Meier curves showed that the surgery group survived longer than the non-surgery group. Abstract

BackgroundIn contrast with the setting of acute myocardial infarction, there are limited data regarding the impact of diabetes mellitus on clinical outcomes in contemporary cohorts of patients with chronic coronary syndromes. We aimed to investigate the prevalence and prognostic impact of diabetes according to geographical regions and ethnicity.Methods and resultsCLARIFY is an observational registry of patients with chronic coronary syndromes, enrolled across 45 countries in Europe, Asia, America, Middle East, Australia, and Africa in 2009–2010, and followed up yearly for 5 years. Chronic coronary syndromes were defined by ≥1 of the following criteria: prior myocardial infarction, evidence of coronary stenosis >50%, proven symptomatic myocardial ischaemia, or prior revascularization procedure.Among 32 694 patients, 9502 (29%) had diabetes, with a regional prevalence ranging from below 20% in Northern Europe to ∼60% in the Gulf countries. In a multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards model, diabetes was associated with increased risks for the primary outcome (cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke) with an adjusted hazard ratio of 1.28 (95% confidence interval 1.18, 1.39) and for all secondary outcomes (all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and coronary revascularization). Differences on outcomes according to geography and ethnicity were modest.ConclusionIn patients with chronic coronary syndromes, diabetes is independently associated with mortality and cardiovascular events, including heart failure, which is not accounted by demographics, prior medical history, left ventricular ejection fraction, or use of secondary prevention medication. This is observed across multiple geographic regions and ethnicities, despite marked disparities in the prevalence of diabetes.ClinicalTrials identifierISRCTN43070564

Thyrotoxic heart disease (THD) is a common and severe complication of hyperthyroidism and the etiology of this complication remains poorly understood. Activation of the rennin-angiotensin- aldosterone system by excess thyroxin is one of the major factors that contribute to the pathogenesis of THD. Several microRNAs such as miR-21, miR-155, miR-208a, and miR-499 are closely related to the rennin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and therefore should be involved in this process. Our study intends to explore whether these miRNAs are involved in the pathogenesis of THD, and if these miRNAs could be secreted into the circulation and serve as sentinel indicators for THD. Though there is a trend of elevation of miR- 155 in THD than in simple hyperthyroidism patients, we did not find statistically significant differences in the expression of these miRNAs in the blood of THD patients, but we found that miR-155 was significantly up-regulated in patients with Graves' disease with or without THD in comparison with healthy controls. Thus, miR-155 can serve as a novel biomarker for Graves' disease and can play important roles in pathogenesis of Graves' disease.

38. Clinical efficacy of ticagrelor combined with aspirin in patients with coronary heart disease angina pectoris and its effects on NT-ProBNP and CK-MB levels

Abstract

This study aims to explore the clinical efficacy of ticagrelor combined with aspirin in patients with coronary heart disease angina pectoris and the effects on N terminal pro B type natriuretic peptide (NT-ProBNP) and creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) levels.A total of 150 patients with coronary heart disease angina pectoris were prospectively analyzed in this study. These patients were admitted to Huaiyin Hospital of Huai'an City from February 2017 to February 2019. The patients were divided into control group and research group according to different treatment methods. The following indicators before and after treatment were observed: therapeutic efficacy, prevalence of adverse reactions, duration and frequency of angina attack, NT-ProBNP and CK-MB levels. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to analyze the predictive value of NT-ProBNP and CK-MB for the curative effect of coronary heart disease angina pectoris.The total effective rate in the research group was higher than that in the control group (p0.05). The prevalence of adverse reactions in the research group was lower than that in the control group (p0.05). The duration and frequency of seizures of the two groups after treatment were lower than those before treatment. The duration and frequency of seizures in the research group were lower than those in the control group (p0.05). The physiological function, physical pain, vital energy score and general health status in the research group were higher than those in the control group (p0.05). The NT-ProBNP and CK-MB levels in both groups after treatment were decreased.Ticagrelor combined with aspirin has definite therapeutic effect on patients with coronary heart disease angina pectoris, with low prevalence of adverse reactions. It can significantly reduce the levels of NT-ProBNP and CK-MB, which is worthy of promotion.

Abstract

This meta-analysis aims to clarify the correlation between N-acetyltransferases 2 (NAT2) polymorphisms and susceptibility of acute leukemia.Articles reporting the correlation between NAT2 polymorphisms and susceptibility of acute leukemia were searched from PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane. Citations in eligible articles were manually reviewed. Only cohort studies and case-control studies which provided odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of the correlation between NAT2 polymorphisms and susceptibility of acute leukemia up to December 1st, 2018 were enrolled. The included data were weighted by an inverse variance and analyzed using the fixed-effects or random-effects model. The data acquisition and the heterogeneity test were conducted. STATA 12.0 was used for statistical analysis.This meta-analysis enrolled 10 independent case-control studies with 1,874 leukemia patients and 2,789 healthy volunteers. No significant difference was found between the fast-acetylator incidence of NAT2 haplotype and the onset risk of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL, OR=0.70, 95% CI=0.45-1.08) or acute myeloid leukemia (AML, OR=0.79, 95% CI=0.46-1.47). The subgroup analysis was conducted based on the sources of controls (SOCs). We did not find statistical difference in population-based (PB) group (OR=0.82, 95% CI=0.47-1.42) and hospital-based (HB) group (OR=0.54, 95% CI=0.27-1.08). In addition, the fast-acetylator incidence of NAT2 haplotype was only observed to be higher in ALL patients compared with HB group (OR=0.52, 95% CI=0.33-0.83), rather than the PB group (OR=0.82, 95% CI=0.47-1.44).Except for ALL patients and those hospital-based controls, no evidence has shown the relationship between NAT2 polymorphisms and the susceptibility of acute leukemia. This conclusion still needs to be further verified in multi-center hospital with a large sample size.

Abstract

Rapid palatal expansion (RPE) is commonly used to correct transverse maxillary deficiencies and recognized as a reliable orthopedic procedure in children and adolescents. For adults, however, conventional RPE has been considered rarely successful and can produce undesirable dental effects. Along with the development of digital techniques and mini-implant anchorage, a novel method called miniscrew-assisted RPE (MARPE) has become available for the treatment of maxillary transverse deficiency in older patients recently. Abstract

The study was to investigate the effects of ligustrazine on rats with cerebral ischemia–reperfusion (I/R) injury and to explore the potential mechanism. Transient focal cerebral ischemia Wistar rat model was established through middle cerebral artery occlusion. The cerebral I/R injury rats were treated with intraperitoneal injection of ligustrazine (1, 3, and 10 mg/kg). Human amniotic epithelial cells (HAECs) were treated with ligustrazine (1, 10, 100 μM) and PI3K inhibitor wortmannin (100 μM), following oxygen–glucose deprivation (OGD) treatment. The expression levels of protein kinase B (PKB or AKT), phospho-Akt (p-Akt), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), and phosphor-eNOS (p-eNOS) in HAECs and brains of rats were measured by Western blot. The levels of nitric oxide (NO) in HAECs were measured by Griess method using NO2−/NO3− Assay Kit. Infarct volume and neurological deficits were evaluated 24 h after reperfusion. The levels of NO, p-Akt/Akt, and p-eNOS/eNOS in HAECs were significantly reduced after OGD, but ligustrazine treatment increased the levels of those factors in a dose-dependent manner, while those increases were reversed by PI3K inhibitor wortmannin. Similarly, p-Akt/Akt and p-eNOS/eNOS in brain tissue of rats with I/R were significantly reduced compared with control group ( p < 0.05), but ligustrazine treatment increased the levels of p-Akt and p-eNOS in a dose-dependent manner ( p < 0.05), while those increases were also reversed by using wortmannin. Ligustrazine also improved the damage of rat brain tissue caused by I/R, but wortmannin reversed the improvement. Ligustrazine plays a neuroprotective role in rats with cerebral I/R injury through the activation of PI3K/Akt pathway.

Abstract

Periodontal disease (PD) is an infection-driven chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the inflammation of tooth-supporting tissues and the destruction of the associated alveolar bone. The immune response of the host to periodontal pathogens infection determines the course and progress of the disease. The effects of secreting cytokines interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) and interleukin-17 (IL-17) of T helper 1 cells (Th1) and T helper 17 cells (Th17) on the development of periodontitis has attracted much attention. IFN-γ is a potential immune-modulatory cytokine and can mediate cellular immune responses by activating various immune cells of the host such as macrophages. As one of the most potential bone physiological regulation mediators, IL-17 is closely related with alveolar bone resorption in periodontitis. Abstract

Periodontal disease is a chronic infectious disease characterized by gingival inflammation and progressive destruction of alveolar bone, and the interaction between plaque microbes and host defense affects the process of the disease. Recent studies have found that autophagy is one of the most primitive host defense responses against pathogenic microbial invasion. Autophagy plays an important role in the development of periodontal disease through such functions as clearing pathogens, regulating inflammatory responses and promoting osteoclast activation to affect bone resorption with inflammatory factors. Takotsubo综合征发病率低，急性期易与急性冠状动脉综合征混淆。本例患者因腹痛入院，检查提示腹腔大量积血、积液，手术中见升结肠动脉瘤破裂出血，行升结肠切除术和回肠造口术，术后心电图、肌钙蛋白呈现急性心肌梗死改变，病情稳定后行冠状动脉造影显示冠状动脉未见狭窄。实时三维超声心动图和左心室造影显示与Takotsubo一致的典型心尖部球样膨出及左心室反常运动，术后1个月复查实时三维超声心动图提示心脏形态及功能恢复，Takotsubo综合征诊断明确。.
