The friction and wear performance, wear morphology and friction-induced subsurface microstructural characteristics of 18Cr-8Ni austenitic stainless steels with coarse-grained (CG), heterogeneous ultrafine-grained (HUFG), and nano/ultrafine-grained (NG/UFG) microstructures after dry sliding wear under room temperature were studied. The results reveal that HUFG steel with a good match between hardness and plasticity exhibits the best wear performance, followed by CG steel, while NG/UFG steel with the highest hardness exhibits the poorest wear performance. From the element distribution map, the contents of O and Si in the delamination and wear debris are relatively high. O is relatively evenly distributed on the whole wear surface of HUFG steel, and there is a continuous oxide layer on its wear surface. After the wear test, the hardness increment near the wear surface of the CG sample is the largest, and the depth affected by sliding is the largest, followed by the HUFG sample, and those of the NG/UFG steel are the smallest. The repeated frictional shear stress causes the formation of cracks between the mechanical mixed layer and the plastic deformation layer, and the continuous expansion of cracks can help oxygen elements diffuse deeply, causing the deformation layer materials to fall off.

- Abstract
Although several studies have focused on why school climate is important, the timing of the collection of climate measures should be considered. This is of particular interest to schools that gauge school improvement efforts within a school year and are interested in how climate changes from the beginning to the end of the academic year. We show that there is a tendency for school-level climate measures to fluctuate in a predictable, nontrivial manner (ds = 0.25-0.47). Findings are based on data from 26 secondary schools (using over 20,000 student responses) that had school climate measures taken in fall and spring over 18 months. We show that in the fall, on average, students consistently had a more favorable outlook of the school based on five climate measures. - Abstract
The present study investigated the relationship between teacher stress and job satisfaction, and examined the role of coping as a moderator. Based on the transactional and Coping-Competence-Context models of stress we expected that coping would serve as a protective factor in the relationship between teacher stress and their job satisfaction. Stress, coping, and satisfaction were measured using single-item scales which are cost-effective and practical instruments for measuring and monitoring teacher stress. A total of 2347 teachers from 93 schools formed the sample for this study. Regression analysis with job satisfaction as the outcome, and stress, coping, and their interaction entered separately were used to test the primary hypothesis. Results showed that there was a negative correlation between stress and job satisfaction, and coping had a significant moderating effect. Increasing levels of stress had less of a negative impact on job satisfaction for teachers with high coping ratings compared to those with average or low coping ratings. Overall, our results suggest that the development of coping skills could be beneficial for mitigating the effects of stress on job satisfaction. Picoplankton abundance and biomass in Sanggou Bay, China, were investigated in 4 successive seasons (April, August and October 2011, January 2012). Different distribution patterns of picoplankton abundance and biomass were observed according to season and culture areas (bivalves or macroalgae). Synechococcus, picoeukaryotes and heterotrophic prokaryotes exhibited higher abundance and biomass in warm seasons (summer and autumn) than in cold seasons (spring and winter). Over all 4 seasons, picoplankton abundance was higher in the bivalve culture area than in the macroalgae culture area. Among picoplankton, picoeukaryotes contributed most to the carbon standing stock in summer and autumn. In spring and winter, the heterotrophic component biomass exceeded that of the autotrophic picoplankton. Picoeukaryotes were an important contributor (21-27%) to total phytoplankton carbon biomass in spring to autumn. In spring, heterotrophic prokaryote biomass accounted for more than 56% of total phytoplankton biomass, and even exceeded phytoplankton biomass at some stations. As revealed by multiple stepwise regression analysis, physicochemical factors and protist grazing were the most important variables that controlled picoplankton distribution and variation. The reduction in grazing pressure, as well as phosphorus release by bivalves, is likely to explain the higher abundance of picoplankton in the bivalve culture area of Sanggou Bay.

- Abstract
The use of large-scale assessments (LSAs) in education has grown in the past decade though analysis of LSAs using multilevel models (MLMs) using R has been limited. A reason for its limited use may be due to the complexity of incorporating both plausible values and weighted analyses in the multilevel analyses of LSA data. We provide additional functions in R that extend the functionality of the WeMix (Bailey et al., 2023) package to allow for the automatic pooling of plausible values. In addition, functions for model comparisons using plausible values and the ability to export output to different formats (e.g., Word, html) are also provided.

Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) is a synthetic chemical substance that has become a ubiquitous environmental contaminant. It has been used in both industrial and consumer applications for over 50 yr, resulting in high levels of contamination worldwide. The potential ecotoxicity of PFOS has recently become a focus of interest and concern. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of PFOS on risk recognition and escape performance of juvenile qingbo Spinibarbus sinensis. Fish were exposed to a range of PFOS concentrations (0, 0.32, 0.8, 2 and 5 mg l-1) at different temperatures (18 and 28°C) for 4 wk, at which point their antipredator behavior and fast-start swimming performance were assessed. We found that PFOS exposure caused qingbo to increase the time they spent in the ‘risky area’ (the area of the experimental aquarium closest to the predator tank) and reduce their average distance from the predator, as well as resulting in a noticeable increase in latency time and a significant decline in maximum linear velocity, maximum linear acceleration and escape distance. Many of these effects were more pronounced at the higher temperature. Our results indicate that exposure to PFOS could have deleterious effects on survival-related behavior in fish.

Sungo Bay in northern China has been used for rearing bivalves and macroalgae for several decades. The bivalve culture areas (B-area) are located in the bay head, and the macroalgae culture areas (M-area) are located outside of the B-area. In field investigations, we compared the nanoflagellates (NF) in the B-area and the M-area during 4 seasons. After the field investigations, enclosure experiments were conducted during summer to study the effects of mariculture (bivalves and macroalgae) on NF. In the warm seasons (summer and autumn), during which there was an obvious freshwater input to the bay (especially during summer), NF abundance was negatively related to salinity and was higher in the B-area than in the M-area. In the enclosure experiments, an increase in NF abundance was observed after Day 4 in the bivalve enclosure, but not in the macroalgae enclosure. Considering that the B-area was the area of lower salinity, and the season of largest freshwater input was also the optimal growth season for bivalves, we suggest that the spatial distribution of NF in the warm seasons in Sungo Bay may be influenced by both freshwater input and mariculture.

With the pioneering fabrication of graphene the field of relativistic quantum chaos emerged. We will focus on the spectral properties of massless spin-1/2 particles confined in a bounded two-dimensional region, named neutrino billiards by Berry and Mondragon in 1987. A commonly used method for the determination of the eigenvalues is based on a boundary integral equation originating from Green’s theorem. Yet, in the quantization one might face problems similar to those occurring for non-relativistic quantum billiards. Especially in cases where the eigenvalue spectrum contains near degeneracies the identification of complete sequences of eigenvalues might be extremely elaborate, if not unfeasible. We propose an expanded boundary integral method, which yields complete eigenvalue sequences with a considerably lower numerical effort than the standard one. Actually, it corresponds to an extension of the method introduced in Veble et al (2007 New J. Phys. 9 15) to relativistic quantum billiards. To demonstrate its validity and its superior efficiency compared to the standard method, we apply both methods to a circular billiard of which the eigenvalues are known analytically and exhibit near degeneracies. Finally, we employ it for the quantization of a neutrino billiard with a hole, of which the spectrum contains many close lying levels and exhibits unusual fluctuation properties.

Background Intraoperative hypotension is a risk factor for postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI). Elderly patients are susceptible due to reduced responses to acute hemodynamic changes.Aims Determine the association between hypotension identified from anesthetic charts and postoperative AKI in elderly patients. Methods Retrospective cohort study of elective noncardiac surgery patients ≥65 years, at an Australian tertiary hospital (December 2019–March 2021), with the primary outcome of AKI ≤48 h of surgery. Factors of interest were intraoperative hypotension determined from anesthetic charts (mean arterial pressure 10 min) but vasopressors were used in 84.7% of cases. The incidence of postoperative AKI was 13.9%. Systolic hypotension >20 min was associated with AKI (OR, 3.88; 95% CI: 1.38–10.9), which was not significant after adjusting for vasopressors, creatinine, American Society of Anesthesiologists class, and hemoglobin drop. The cumulative dose of any specific vasopressor >20 mg (or >10 mg epinephrine) was independently associated with AKI (adjusted OR, 2.47; 95% CI: 1.34–4.58). Every 5 mg increase in the total dose of all intraoperative vasopressors used during surgery was associated with 11% increased odds of AKI (95% CI: 3–19%).Conclusions High vasopressor use was associated with postoperative AKI in elderly patients undergoing noncardiac surgery, independent of hypotension identified from anesthetic charts.

Abstract Early restoration of oxygen delivery to end organs in paediatric patients experiencing shock states is critical to optimizing outcomes. However, obtaining central access in paediatric patients may be challenging in non-intensive care settings. There is limited literature on the use of peripheral vasoactive infusions in the initial resuscitation of paediatric patients in the emergency department. The aims of this study were to report the associated complications of peripheral vasoactive infusions and describe our local experience on its use. This was a single-centre, retrospective study on all paediatric patients who received peripheral vasoactive infusions at our paediatric emergency department from 2009 to 2016. 65 patients were included in this study. No patients had any local or regional complications. The mean patient age was 8.29 years old (± 5.99). The most frequent diagnosis was septic shock (45, 69.2%). Dopamine was the most used peripheral vasoactive agent (71.2%). The median time to central agents was 2 h (IQR 1–4). 16(24.2%) received multiple peripheral infusions. We reported no complications of peripheral vasoactive infusions. Its use could serve as a bridge till central access is obtained. Considerations on the use of multiple peripheral vasoactive infusions in the emergency department setting needs further research.

In this paper, a novel high-sensitivity broadband rectifier is proposed aiming at ambient radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting. Traditionally, voltage doubling rectifying circuit is used to design high-sensitivity rectifier. But when the input power is lower, the rectifying efficiency is significantly reduced. Therefore, a improved parallel half-wave rectifying circuit is proposed in this article which can convert RF energy in the whole period. And the proposed rectifying circuit can work better in lower power environment and has a higher efficiency level. Besides, the impedance match is also important component of rectifier. Due to the nonlinearity and complexity of rectifying circuit, achieving wideband matching network is a challenge. Thus, a design approach of broadband impedance circuit is given in this study. Combining with the proposed high-sensitivity rectifying circuit, a high-sensitivity wideband rectifier can be generated, when the input power is -15dBm, -20dBm, -25dBm, the efficiency is 43%, 32%, 20%, respectively. Finally, a second-order wideband rectifier with high sensitivity is realized, and the range of bandwidth can cover four main frequency bands of GSM 900 MHz, GSM 1800 MHz, UMTS 2100 MHz, WLAN 2400 MHz. To verify the validity, the rectifier is fabricated and measured, and the measurement has a good agreement with simulation results.

The important Qinghai–Tibet Engineering Corridor (QTEC) covers the part of the Highway and Railway underlain by permafrost. The permafrost on the QTEC is sensitive to climate warming and human disturbance and suffers accelerating degradation. Retrogressive thaw slumps (RTSs) are slope failures due to the thawing of ice-rich permafrost. They typically retreat and expand at high rates, damaging infrastructure, and releasing carbon preserved in frozen ground. Along the critical and essential corridor, RTSs are commonly distributed but remain poorly investigated. To compile the first comprehensive inventory of RTSs, this study uses an iteratively semi-automatic method built on deep learning to delineate thaw slumps in the 2019 PlanetScope CubeSat images over a ∼ 54 000 km2 corridor area. The method effectively assesses every image pixel using DeepLabv3+ with limited training samples and manually inspects the deep-learning-identified thaw slumps based on their geomorphic features and temporal changes. The inventory includes 875 RTSs, of which 474 are clustered in the Beiluhe region, and 38 are near roads or railway lines. The dataset is available at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6397029 (Xia et al., 2021a), with the Chinese version at DOI: https://doi.org/10.11888/Cryos.tpdc.272672 (Xia et al. 2021b). These RTSs tend to be located on north-facing slopes with gradients of 1.2–18.1∘ and distributed at medium elevations ranging from 4511 to 5212 m a.s.l. They prefer to develop on land receiving relatively low annual solar radiation (from 2900 to 3200 kWh m−2), alpine meadow covered, and loam underlay. Our results provide a significant and fundamental benchmark dataset for quantifying thaw slump changes in this vulnerable region undergoing strong climatic warming and extensive human activities.

In this paper, we first obtained the temporal-spatial changes of surface subsidence in Ganzhou area based on SBAS-InSAR technology using 24 scenes Sentine-1A images covering the Ganzhou area from 2018 to 2020. Then we studied the surface subsidence characteristics in the study area. Finally, the relationship between surface subsidence and factors such as precipitation, human engineering activities, groundwater extraction, and sediment accumulation were analyzed in Ganzhou area. The results showed that : 80% of the sedimentation rate was −5.4–3.0 mm/a in the study area; serious subsidence areas were mainly located in Ganxian District, which annual average subsidence rate reached −26.4mm/a, and the time series of surface subsidence was accompanied by certain seasonal changes; the seasonal changes in surface subsidence were related to rainfall and groundwater extraction, in addition, the surface subsidence was obviously affected by human engineering activities and river sediment accumulation.

The oil and gas (O&G) sector is a significant source of methane (CH4) emissions. Quantifying these emissions remains challenging, with many studies highlighting discrepancies between measurements and inventory-based estimates. In this study, we present CH4 emission fluxes from 21 offshore O&G facilities collected in 10 O&G fields over two regions of the Norwegian continental shelf in 2019. Emissions of CH4 derived from measurements during 13 aircraft surveys were found to range from 2.6 to 1200 t yr−1 (with a mean of 211 t yr−1 across all 21 facilities). Comparing this with aggregated operator-reported facility emissions for 2019, we found excellent agreement (within 1σ uncertainty), with mean aircraft-measured fluxes only 16 % lower than those reported by operators. We also compared aircraft-derived fluxes with facility fluxes extracted from a global gridded fossil fuel CH4 emission inventory compiled for 2016. We found that the measured emissions were 42 % larger than the inventory for the area covered by this study, for the 21 facilities surveyed (in aggregate). We interpret this large discrepancy not to reflect a systematic error in the operator-reported emissions, which agree with measurements, but rather the representativity of the global inventory due to the methodology used to construct it and the fact that the inventory was compiled for 2016 (and thus not representative of emissions in 2019). This highlights the need for timely and up-to-date inventories for use in research and policy. The variable nature of CH4 emissions from individual facilities requires knowledge of facility operational status during measurements for data to be useful in prioritising targeted emission mitigation solutions. Future surveys of individual facilities would benefit from knowledge of facility operational status over time. Field-specific aggregated emissions (and uncertainty statistics), as presented here for the Norwegian Sea, can be meaningfully estimated from intensive aircraft surveys. However, field-specific estimates cannot be reliably extrapolated to other production fields without their own tailored surveys, which would need to capture a range of facility designs, oil and gas production volumes, and facility ages. For year-on-year comparison to annually updated inventories and regulatory emission reporting, analogous annual surveys would be needed for meaningful top-down validation. In summary, this study demonstrates the importance and accuracy of detailed, facility-level emission accounting and reporting by operators and the use of airborne measurement approaches to validate bottom-up accounting.

This empirical research aims to propose and examine an online teaching approach that embeds modeling-eliciting activities (MEA). The approach guides teachers to create a well-interactive online learning environment and improve the conceptual learning and professional skills of engineering undergraduates. The professional skills are defined as critical thinking and collaboration. A structured teaching procedure was implemented sequentially by task introduction, problem description, performance analysis, structural optimization, and solution discussion. The six principles of MEA were organically integrated with the teaching procedure, creating a inspiring, open-ended, and teamwork learning environment. The instruments used to collect data included conceptual learning tests, design report evaluations, learning reflection analyses, and interaction statistics. The findings suggested that the MEA-embedded online courses have significant advantages for improving learners’ conceptual learning and professional skills. The proposed approach guides the learners to make appropriate decisions and practical actions, enhancing their critical thinking. The MEA inspires learners’ positive attitudes and high participation, providing an emotional basis for group collaboration. The discussions on the open topics and thought process reflections create a collaborative environment. Besides, the statistics on the online teaching platform show that the MEA has a significant role for interaction promotion in the online course.

Meteorological conditions play important roles in the formation of ozone (O3) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5). China has been suffering from serious regional air pollution problems, characterized by high concentrations of surface O3 and PM2.5. In this study, the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model was used to quantify the sensitivity of surface O3 and PM2.5 to key meteorological parameters in different regions of China. Six meteorological parameters were perturbed to create different meteorological conditions, including temperature (T), wind speed (WS), absolute humidity (AH), planetary boundary layer height (PBLH), cloud liquid water content (CLW) and precipitation (PCP). Air quality simulations under the perturbed meteorological conditions were conducted in China in January and July of 2013. The changes in O3 and PM2.5 concentrations due to individual meteorological parameters were then quantified. T has a great influence on the daily maximum 8 h average O3 (O3-8 h) concentrations, which leads to O3-8 h increases by 1.7 in January in Chongqing and 1.1 ppb K−1 in July in Beijing. WS, AH, and PBLH have a smaller but notable influence on O3-8 h with maximum change rates of 0.3 ppb %−1, −0.15 ppb %−1, and 0.14 ppb %−1, respectively. T, WS, AH, and PBLH have important effects on PM2.5 formation of both in January and July. In general, PM2.5 sensitivities are negative to T, WS, and PBLH and positive to AH in most regions of China. The sensitivities in January are much larger than in July. PM2.5 sensitivity to T, WS, PBLH, and AH in January can be up to −5 µg m−3 K−1, −3 µg m−3 %−1, −1 µg m−3 %−1, and +0.6 µg m−3 %−1, respectively, and in July it can be up to −2 µg m−3 K−1, −0.4 µg m−3 %−1, −0.14 µg m−3 %−1, and +0.3 µg m−3 %−1, respectively. Other meteorological factors (CLW and PCP) have negligible effects on O3-8 h (less than 0.01 ppb %−1) and PM2.5 (less than 0.01 µg m−3 %−1). The results suggest that surface O3 and PM2.5 concentrations can change significantly due to changes in meteorological parameters, and it is necessary to consider these effects when developing emission control strategies in different regions of China.

In the past 40 years after China adopted the reform and open-up policy, China’s expediting industries spatial agglomeration has resulted in severe damage to the environment. In China, the one whether the pollution haven hypothesis (PHH) is true or not is the hot issue under the research of academic circles. By establishing the mechanism model of industries spatial agglomeration and environmental pollution in this paper, we discovered upon our empirical study that China’s industrial spatial agglomeration process had apparent threshold characteristics for environmental pollution, those direct investment and scientific innovation of foreign merchants apparently improved environmental pollution, so PHH is not true in China and such conclusion provides empirical support for China’s industrial agglomeration and environmental policymaking. At the end of the paper, the policy proposals for improving environmental pollution in future are made, which have important significance for China’s high-quality economic development.

This study used the Time Series Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (TS-InSAR) technology and the ENVISAT ASAR dataset obtained between 2007 and 2010 and the Sentinel-1A dataset from 2017 to 2019 to determine the subsidence in the Shenzhen reclamation area, and used ASTER GDEM V2 to remove the phase jump caused by spectral decorrelation between bursts. Based on the time series of land subsidence of the reclamation area, a three-dimensional subsidence model of the reclamation area was established. By comparing and analyzing the subsidence results of two sets of satellite time series in the reclamation area, the temporal and spatial evolution of land subsidence and the cause of land subsidence in the reclamation area were analyzed. The results show that the test results of time series ENVISAT ASAR and Sentinel-1A have good continuity in subsidence spatialtemporal variation: From 2007 to 2010, the land subsidence in most areas of Shenzhen reclamation area is relatively stable, and the area where subsidence occurs is mainly distributed in Baoan District, the maximum subsidence rate in Baoan District is −23.12 mm/year. From 2017 to 2019, land subsidence in the reclamation area showed a tendency to spread and spread from west to east. The subsidence characteristics of Nanshan District are the most obvious, and the maximum subsidence rate is −17.52 mm/year.

In many famous tourist cities, there is a lack of big data analysis and perception of tourist behavior, which reflected in the existence of a large number of basic data in the scenic area. Through the traditional and/or non-special sensors of the Internet of Things, a large amount of special -temporal change data is collected, including video monitors data, RFID, WIFI, temperature and humidity, water depth sensors and other big data of the Internet of Things(IoT)that can perceive the location and environmental resource information of tourists. In addition, the thermodynamic data of the distribution location of tourists' mobile phones, although these data include the behavior data of tourist groups and individuals in the scenic spot, which can be most shown by supplying, lack of in-depth analysis and intelligent service application. As we all know, Guilin, Guangxi is a famous tourist attraction in the word. In this tourism city, the big data processing methods of location service include establishing a data processing framework, information extraction, fusion and batch processing technology. As a result of the location data of tourists in the scenic spot are constantly created over time, the location service data will be processed by stream mode. At the same time, dimension reduction analysis of big data is an important link in processing as it has a large volume but a low-value density. The analysis methods of location service include kernel density analysis, GIS spatial and temporal analysis, artificial intelligence deep learning, two-dimensional mapping, visualization processing results, and extraction of hot spots or scenic spots, etc. Spatial and temporal index technology is used to manage the big data of scenic spot location service and to improve the efficiency of data query and access. At the same time, a reasonable predictive analysis of data processing results is an important research method. The main system structure of an intelligent service platform includes platform, data processing sing, and analysis end, mobile management end. The platform includes a general user service module, location service module, a communication module, etc, which is responsible for providing reasonable service to customers. The data processing and analysis end include a data receiving module and a data processing and analysis module. Responsible for receiving and processing the location service data returned by the client. The mobile management end includes the scenic spot management module. Responsible for providing the manager with the distribution of tourists in the scenic area, the location information of the staff, the location of the emergency situation and other contents, and providing great help for the manager to maintain the order of the scenic area, reasonably dispatch personnel, and launch rescue in time. Development and design to show users good models and development concepts and typical artificial intelligence products, to improve the scenic spot tourist's playing efficiency and humanized experience and reduce the management cost.

The arrangement of electrodes in an electrohydrodynamic (EHD) gas pump inside a square channel is experimentally examined for its effective use in thermal management. Particularly, the study looks into modifying the characteristics of flow produced by an EHD gas pump through the arrangement of its electrodes. The aim is to produce swirl flow, which can effectively increase the flow mixing inside the channel and leads to the desired outcome. To this end, a two-stage gas pump powered by direct-current voltages ranging from 24 to 26 kV with electrodes flush mounted on two neighboring walls is devised. In addition to the volume flow rate produced, the performance of the pump is evaluated using an energy efficiency factor, which is defined as the volume flow rate delivered by a unit power input. It is found that the EHD gas pump with offset electrodes can not only produce more volume flow rate but also has a larger value for energy efficiency, which may be more favorable for the application in thermal management. The present results reveal that the EHD gas pump has great potential for applications in thermal management and can be more energy efficient when operated with uneven applied voltages.

The nearby radio galaxy M87 is a prime target for studying black hole accretion and jet formation^{1,2}. Event Horizon Telescope observations of M87 in 2017, at a wavelength of 1.3 mm, revealed a ring-like structure, which was interpreted as gravitationally lensed emission around a central black hole^3. Here we report images of M87 obtained in 2018, at a wavelength of 3.5 mm, showing that the compact radio core is spatially resolved. High-resolution imaging shows a ring-like structure of 8.4_{-1.1}^{+0.5} Schwarzschild radii in diameter, approximately 50% larger than that seen at 1.3 mm. The outer edge at 3.5 mm is also larger than that at 1.3 mm. This larger and thicker ring indicates a substantial contribution from the accretion flow with absorption effects in addition to the gravitationally lensed ring-like emission. The images show that the edge-brightened jet connects to the accretion flow of the black hole. Close to the black hole, the emission profile of the jet-launching region is wider than the expected profile of a black-hole-driven jet, suggesting the possible presence of a wind associated with the accretion flow., 50 pages, 18 figures, 3 tables, author's version of the paper published in Nature

General Medicine - Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze the role of virtual simulation in teaching Chinese medicine pharmacology experiments. Starting from the current situation of teaching Chinese medicine pharmacology experiments, this article analyzes the advantages of virtual simulation technology in experiment teaching under the concept of “student-centered” and its application effect. The analysis of students’ learning effects after the actual application of virtual simulation teaching in our school shows that virtual simulation experiment teaching can enhance students’ interest in active learning, improve their practical ability, and improve the overall level of experiments. It shows that virtual simulation technology has a wide application prospect in teaching Chinese medicine pharmacology experiments.

Recent changes in the landscape of endocrine surgery include a shift from total thyroidectomy for almost all patients with papillary thyroid cancer to the incorporation of thyroid lobectomy for well-selected patients with low-risk disease; minimally invasive parathyroidectomy with, and potentially without, intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitoring for patients with well-localized primary hyperparathyroidism; improvement in the management of parathyroid cancer with the incorporation of immune checkpoint blockade and/or targeted therapies; and the incorporation of minimally invasive techniques in the management of patients with benign tumors and selected secondary malignancies of the adrenal gland.

Site-specific incorporation of unnatural amino acids (Uaas) in living cells relies on engineered aminoacyl-transfer RNA synthetase-tRNA pairs borrowed from a distant domain of life. Such heterologous suppressor tRNAs often have poor intrinsic activity, presumably due to suboptimal interaction with a non-native translation system. This limitation can be addressed in Escherichia coli using directed evolution. However, no suitable selection system is currently available to do the same in mammalian cells. Here we report virus-assisted directed evolution of tRNAs (VADER) in mammalian cells, which uses a double-sieve selection scheme to facilitate single-step enrichment of active yet orthogonal tRNA mutants from naive libraries. Using VADER we developed improved mutants of Methanosarcina mazei pyrrolysyl-tRNA, as well as a bacterial tyrosyl-tRNA. We also show that the higher activity of the most efficient mutant pyrrolysyl-tRNA is specific for mammalian cells, alluding to an improved interaction with the unique mammalian translation apparatus.

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
The crystal characteristics of the diamond samples that are synthesized by several dynamic loading methods, i.e., explosion and impact, have been characterized by XRD and TEM and compared with the diamonds synthesized by static high-temperature and high-pressure method. The crystal lattice integrity of the diamonds synthesized by the dynamic loading methods is poor, and the diamonds possess the characteristic of polycrystalline coalescence. Similar to the static diamonds, the diamonds synthesized by the methods of plane shock wave and detonation products are also single cubic crystal, while the diamonds synthesized by the methods of axial symmetry shock wave and direct detonation have different proportions of cubic and hexagonal crystal structures. The reasons for the formation of these properties have been studied by analyzing the synthesis process and technical characteristics. The results are helpful for the reasonable application of these diamond products, and also have some significance in deepening the understanding of the synthesis mechanism of different dynamic loading methods.
