In gravity-powered sports, more mass at the same drag area results in a shorter finish time. Based on the body mass data and the finish times of the Skeleton and Luge competitions at the 2018 Winter Olympics, this study investigated the fairness of rules, by establishing trends between finish time and body mass or simulated system mass. A glide model served for the assessment of the sensitivity of mass, drag area and coefficient of friction, and for determining how much mass were required to tie with the next higher rank of the first four athletes of each competition. The rules of Skeleton and Luge competitions permit the use of ballast mass as a function of the athletes' body mass, but the reference mass was up to 10 kg too low. When correlating the finish time with the body mass, all trends were significant (p ≤ 0.032; α = 0.05) which indicated that the finish times were mass dependent. Correlating the finish time with the simulated system mass reveals the same result except for the men's Luge competition. The sensitivity analysis showed that 15% change of an input parameter resulted in about 1% change of the finish time. Despite the low sensitivity, the masses required to tie with the next highest rank ranged from 0.02 to 20 kg, with a median of 0.7 kg. The skeleton rules were improved in 2020 which now provide equal conditions across a wide range of body masses; however, the current Luge rules still disadvantage lighter athletes even when using the permitted ballast mass. Background: There is a research gap in the survey of injuries and illnesses in the sport of luge., Objective: To analyse the type, frequency and burden of injuries and illnesses that occurred over a preparation period and a competition period in elite luge athletes., Methods: In total 40 elite luge athletes, who were all part of a national team and competed internationally, self-reported acute injuries, overuse injuries and illnesses weekly using the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre Questionnaire on Health Problems., Results: The most frequently stated health problems were illnesses with 41.9% (n=75), followed by acute injuries at 31.9% (n=57). Overuse injuries accounted for 24.0% (n=43). Illnesses represented the greatest burden with a median severity score of 60.0 (IQR: 23.63), followed by acute injuries with 42.0 (IQR: 26.83) and overuse injuries with 35.0 (IQR: 23.95). In the case of acute injuries, the anatomical regions most affected were the hand (n=8, 14.0 %), foot (n=8, 14.0 %), head (n=7, 12.3 %) and neck (n=6, 10.5 %). In the case of overuse injuries, the shoulder (n=9, 20.9 %) and lumbar spine (n=7, 16.3 %) were most frequently reported. Strains (n=15, 26.3 %) and contusions (n=14, 24.6 %) were the predominant types of acute injuries. Four concussions were recorded, with none of the athletes taking a break from normal training of more than 3 days. This stands in contrast to the current recommendations for the return to sport after concussion., Conclusion: The results of this study represent the current incidence rates and health burden of acute and chronic injuries in this constantly evolving sport. 95% of all athletes reported at least one health problem during the observation period. Allen 3 Sportarten ist die grundsätzlich niedrige Verletzungshäufigkeit während des Sportbetriebs gemeinsam. Durch wiederkehrende Vibrationen und/oder direkten Kontakt des Helmes mit dem Eis oder dem Sportgerät können jedoch teils langfristige Beschwerden im Kontext einer Concussion auftreten. Die Symptome (u. a. Kopfschmerz, Unwohlsein, Desorientiertheit) müssen ernst genommen und weiter abgeklärt werden. Das Ausmaß der Beschwerden hängt dabei von vielen möglichen Faktoren ab – nach derzeitigem Erkenntnisstand von der körperlichen Fitness, der Halsmuskulatur und der Geometrie/Beschaffenheit der Bahn. Aktuell werden Untersuchungen und Studien zu diesem Thema, die sich mit der Anwendung der bekannten Testverfahren (u. a. SCAT oder ImPACT) beschäftigen, durchgeführt. So soll eine zu frühe Rückkehr in die Sportart und damit wiederholte Verletzungen ausgeschlossen werden. Information on all 3 sports, injury patterns and advices for supervision are given. Common to all 3 sports is the generally low frequency of injuries during sports activities. Recurring vibrations and/or direct contact of the helmet with the ice or sports equipment can lead to long-term complaints in the context of a concussion. The symptoms (including headache, malaise/discomfort and disorientation) must be taken seriously and further diagnosed. The extent of the discomfort depends on many possible factors - according to the current state of knowledge, on the physical fitness, the neck muscles and the geometry/state of the track. Examinations and studies on this topic are currently being carried out, which deal with the application of the known test procedures (including SCAT or ImPACT). Studies about the three Olympic sliding sports are sparse, little is known other than factors related to start performance. Therefore, this study aimed to add to the current literature by analysing the race characteristics of the nine different events. A non-experimental retrospective method was applied to analyse all races of the 2018/2019 season. A total of 3371 race trials sampled across the sports of bobsleigh (n = 1105), luge (n = 1401) and skeleton (n = 865). Split rankings were correlated to finish rankings using Pearson product-moment correlation to analyse the relationship of sectional rankings and race outcome throughout the race. The results exhibited sequentially increasing correlation coefficients in all events. Yet, there were distinctive characteristics differentiating the sports. Bobsleigh illustrated correlations coefficients that at a minimum were very large (r = .71) among all split rankings. Luge and skeleton depicted lower correlations for split 1 (r = .30 - .68) and thereafter substantially increasing as the race progressed. Thus, sliding performance can potentially have a greater impact in luge and skeleton than in bobsleigh. The differentiating race characteristics show the need for different training methods. Der Wert der Wahrheit (wenn schon sie als die Beachtung des Tatbestands verstanden) wird - dank auch den Medien - in unseren postmodernistischen Zeiten, die durch den fortschreitenden Populismus charakterisiert werden, ernstlich in Frage gestellt. Es ist wichtig nur die Űberzeugung dadurch die fremde Interessen als eigene dargestellt werden; das einzige relevante Kriterium wird die Effizienz. Deswegen verschwanden die Unterschieden zwischen Wahrheit und Schwindel, Gerechten und Ungerechten, Sinnlichen und Sinnlosen. In diesem Kontext wird eine dramatische Frage aufgehoben: stellt es der Menschkeit zu Verfűgung űberhaupt irgendeine Mittel gegen die Barbarisierung, die durch die Veraltung der Wahrheit produziert wird.

In unserem Artikel möchten wir anregen, das Labor zum Bestandteil der osteopathischen Kultur zu entwickeln. Im Labor geht es darum, klinisch relevante Erfahrung zu ermöglichen, gemeinsam Ergebnisse zu produzieren und darüber zu reflektieren. Wir beschreiben Vorgehensweisen und Konzepte der Laborarbeit und wir weisen auf die Wichtigkeit gemeinsamer Arbeits- und Entscheidungsprozesse für die Entwicklung der Osteopathie hin. With this article we would like to encourage the osteopathic community to develop a culture of hands-on laboratory work. The aim of the laboratory is to develop clinically relevant experience. The osteopathic lab is a group process, were we treat and reflect on the outcomes. In our article we describe procedures and concepts of laboratory work and we point to the importance of collective decision-making processes – like jury deliberation and decernment – for the development of osteopathy.
