The risk of salmonellosis is expected to increase with the rise in the consumption of poultry meat. The aim of this study was to investigate the combination treatment of peroxyacetic acid (PAA) or lactic acid (LA) with UV-C against Salmonella Enteritidis biofilms formed on food contact surface (stainless steel [SS], silicone rubber [SR], and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene [UHMWPE]) and chicken skin. The biofilm on food contact surface and chicken skin was significantly decreased (P 0.05) by combination treatment of PAA or LA with UV-C. Gastroenteritis infections in humans are mainly associated with consumption of Vibrio parahaemolyticus contaminated shellfish, which causes health and economic loss. Virulence factor production, antibiotic resistance profile, and biofilm-forming capacity of Vibrio parahaemolyticus isolates on food and food contact surfaces at 30 °C were investigated to evaluate the antibiotic sensitivity and pathogenic level. Strains of V. parahaemolyticus were isolated from shellfish (e.g., Crassostrea gigas, Venerupis philippinarum, Mytilus coruscus, Anadara kagoshimensis) in Korea. When examined for 17 virulence factor-encoding genes, 53.3, 73.1, 87.1, 87.9, and 90.9% of the isolates were positive for genes encoding TDH, T6SS, T3SS1, T3SS2, and Type I pilus, respectively. All isolates showed resistance to vancomycin, tetracyclines, penicillin, nalidixic acid, and doxycycline, among 26 antibiotics tested, with most isolates resistant to kanamycin (93.5%), ampicillin (96.8%), clindamycin (96.8%), tobramycin (88.7%), amikacin (83.97%), and minocycline (80.7%). Biofilm formation, cell–cell attachment, and motility were high in most isolates. These findings may assist in monitoring the epidemics of the pathogen. Continuous monitoring could help to decrease V. parahaemolyticus infections and improve seafood safety.

The effects of 3 ethanol levels (30, 50, and 70%) with and without thiamine dilaurylsulfate (TDS; 1,000 ppm) were evaluated for the reduction of natural mesophilic aerobic bacteria (MAB), coliforms, and inoculated Salmonella Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) in chicken skin. The chicken skin was inoculated with a 7 log cfu/mL suspension of S. Typhimurium. Loosely, intermediately, and tightly attached cells were recovered from chicken skin through shaking at 200 rpm for 5 min, stomaching for 1 min, and blending for 1 min, respectively. Increasing the ethanol concentration reduced the number of MAB, coliforms, and S. Typhimurium on the chicken skin, whereas TDS treatment without ethanol was not effective. Intermediately and tightly attached microorganisms (total MAB, coliforms, and S. Typhimurium) were more resistant to chemical disinfectants than loosely attached microorganisms. The combination of 70% ethanol with TDS was most effective than the combination of TDS with lower concentrations of ethanol in reducing populations of loosely, intermediately, and tightly attached MAB (by 1.88 log cfu/g, 1.21 log cfu/g, and 0.84 log cfu/g, respectively), coliforms (by 1.14 log cfu/g, 1.04 log cfu/g, and 0.67 log cfu/g, respectively), and S. 최근 전 세계적으로 메티실린내성 황색포도알균(methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus [MRSA])에 의한 감염성 심내막염의 빈도가 증가하는 추세이다. 저자들은 12세 여아가 침습적 치과 치료 이후에 발생한 MRSA에 의한 감염성 심내막염 1예를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. 환아가 경부 강직을 나타내어 시행한 뇌척수액 검사상 세포 증가증 소견이 보였고 세균성 수막염을 의심하여 항생 제 치료를 시작하였으며, 입원 3병일째 혈액 배양검사에서 MRSA가 검출되었다. 심장 초음파상 승모판막의 전엽에 붙어있는 증식조직이 증명되어 항생제 치료후 호전되어 퇴원하였다. 개정된 심내막염 예방을 위한 가이드라인에서는 오직 고위험군에서만 치과 처치 전에 예방적 항생제 요법을 권장하고 있다. 본 증례는 승모판 탈출증 이외에 고위험군이 없었던 환아에서 잇몸의 출혈을 유발하는 치과 치료를 받은 이후에 발병한 감염성 심내막염의 경우로서, 이후 12개월간 감염성 심내막염의 재발은 없었다.

A silicon based micro-fluxgate sensor with a cobalt based amorphous soft magnetic core for electronic compass is presented in this paper, and effects of magnetic field annealing were tested under 3 different field directions (length, width, and rotation) for improving the sensor's performance.

This paper presents a micro fluxgate sensor fabricated by Si-based Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS). To measure X- and Y-axis magnetic fields, two fluxgate sensing elements were perpendicularly aligned. The fluxgate sensor was composed of rectangular-ring shaped magnetic core, solenoid excitation and pick-up coils. The 2 /spl mu/m thick Ni/sub 0.8/Fe/sub 0.2/ (permalloy) magnetic core layer was electroplated with photoresist frame using sputtered Ni/sub 0.8/Fe/sub 0.2/ seed layer. The fabricated fluxgate chip size was 4.5/spl times/2.7 mm/sup 2/. Excellent linear response over the range of -100 /spl mu/T to +100 /spl mu/T was obtained with 210 V/T sensitivity at excitation square wave of 2.8 V/sub p-p/ and 1.2 MHz. When two-axis fluxgate sensing element was rotated in terrestrial field, induced second harmonic voltages from X-and Y-axis were sine and cosine wave without distortion, respectively. It is very useful to commercialize the portable navigation system including north-up and map matching, military research, medical research, and space research.
