Hydrogen is increasingly recognized as a clean and reliable energy vector for decarbonization in the future. In the marine sector, marine solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) that employ hydrogen as an energy source have already been developed. In this study, a multi-channel plate-anode-loaded SOFC was taken as the research object. A three-dimensional steady-state computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model for anode-supported SOFC was established, which is based on the mass conservation, energy conservation, momentum conservation, electrochemical reactions, and charge transport equations, including detailed geometric shapes, model boundary condition settings, and the numerical methods employed. The polarization curves calculated from the numerical simulation were compared with experimental results from the literature to verify the model's accuracy. The curved model was applied by enlarging the flow channels or adding blocks. Numerical calculations were employed to obtain the current density, temperature distribution, and component concentration distribution under the operating conditions of the SOFC. Subsequently, the distribution patterns of various physical parameters during the SOFC operation were analyzed. Compared to the classical model, the temperature of the curved model was reduced by 1.3%, and the velocities of the cathode and anode were increased by 4.9% and 5.0%, respectively, with a 2.42% enhancement in performance. As a subdivision of the hydrogen energy application field, ship-borne hydrogen fuel cell systems have certain differences from vehicle or other application scenarios in terms of their structural type, safety, environmental adaptability, and test verification. The connection method of the ship-borne hydrogen storage cylinder (SHSC) is very important for the hydrogen fuel cell ship, and the structural parameters of the SHSC are particularly important in the hydrogen refueling process. To ensure the safe and reliable operation of the hydrogen-powered ship, research on the filling of the SHSC under different connection modes was carried out during refueling. In our study, a thermal flow physical model of the SHSC was established to research the hydrogen refueling process of the series and parallel SHSCs. The influence of series and parallel modes of the SHSCs on the hydrogen refueling process was explored, and the evolution law of the internal flow field, pressure, and temperature of series and parallel SHSCs under different filling parameters was analyzed by numerical simulation. Our results confirmed the superiority of the parallel modular approach in terms of thermal safety during refueling. The results can supply a technical basis for the future development of hydrogen refueling stations and ship-board hydrogenation control algorithms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Against the backdrop of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality," the hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle industry are rapidly developing. Within the on-board hydrogen supply system, the hydrogen circulation pump serves as an essential component of the hydrogen fuel cell system. The spiral disk, as a core part of the hydrogen fuel cell system's vortex hydrogen circulation pump (VHCP), plays a crucial role in determining the performance of the hydrogen circulation system in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. To meet the requirements for high-performance and high-reliability development of the hydrogen circulation pump, the VHCP scheme is adopted as the choice for the hydrogen pump solution. Through the magnetic suspension and no connection shaft structural design, the feasibility of applying the high speed and high flow hydrogen turbine was initially validated. Utilizing Fluent analysis software and high precision performance test bench, a comprehensive three-dimensional numerical simulation of the turbine design under various operating conditions was conducted and performance test verification, demonstrating that the performance meets the required specifications. By conducting research in both strength optimization design and performance requirement, two major technical challenges in turbine pump application were overcome. Combined with the experimental results of the turbine medium, it is concluded that the vortex pump can meet the flow and pressure rise under the premise of low power consumption in the hydrogen circulation system so as to perfectly increase the hydrogen return amount. Based on these findings, recommendations are proposed for the future development direction of hydrogen supply systems in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Pavlovian fear conditioning, the lateral amygdala (LA) has been highlighted as a key brain site for association between sensory cues and aversive stimuli. However, learning-related changes are also found in upstream sensory regions such as thalamus and cortex. To isolate the essential neural circuit components for fear memory association, we tested whether direct activation of presynaptic sensory inputs in LA, without the participation of upstream activity, is sufficient to form fear memory in mice. Photostimulation of axonal projections from the two main auditory brain regions, the medial geniculate nucleus of the thalamus and the secondary auditory cortex, was paired with aversive footshock. Twenty-four hours later the same photostimulation induced robust conditioned freezing and this fear memory formation was disrupted when glutamatergic synaptic transmission was locally blocked in the LA. Therefore, our results prove for the first time that synapses between sensory input areas and the LA, previously implicated as a crucial brain site for fear memory formation, actually are sufficient to serve as a conditioned stimulus. Our results strongly support the idea that the LA may be sufficient to encode and store associations between neutral cue and aversive stimuli during natural fear conditioning as a critical part of a broad fear memory engram.

Memory is thought to be sparsely encoded throughout multiple brain regions forming unique memory trace. Although evidence has established that the amygdala is a key brain site for memory storage and retrieval of auditory conditioned fear memory, it remains elusive whether the auditory brain regions may be involved in fear memory storage or retrieval. To investigate this possibility, we systematically imaged the brain activity patterns in the lateral amygdala, MGm/PIN, and AuV/TeA using activity-dependent induction of immediate early gene "zif268" after recent and remote memory retrieval of auditory conditioned fear. Consistent with the critical role of the amygdala in fear memory, the zif268 activity in the lateral amygdala was significantly increased after both recent and remote memory retrieval. Interesting, however, the density of zif268 (+) neurons in both MGm/PIN and AuV/TeA, particularly in layers IV and VI, was increased only after remote but not recent fear memory retrieval compared to control groups. Further analysis of zif268 signals in AuV/TeA revealed that conditioned tone induced stronger zif268 induction compared to familiar tone in each individual zif268 (+) neuron after recent memory retrieval. Taken together, our results support that the lateral amygdala is a key brain site for permanent fear memory storage and suggest that MGm/PIN and AuV/TeA might play a role for remote memory storage or retrieval of auditory conditioned fear, or, alternatively, that these auditory brain regions might have a different way of processing for familiar or conditioned tone information at recent and remote time phases.

The fast refueling of compressed hydrogen has an important influence on the efficiency and safety of the filling process. Precision measurements of the thermodynamic characteristics of hydrogen under the filling process are becoming more important as hydrogen energy is developed and used. One of the key elements of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is the on-board hydrogen storage cylinder (HSC). Due to the compression of the hydrogen during filling, there could be a fast increase in temperature. The tank's maximum temperature and maximum fueling pressure are both restricted to less than 358.15 K and 125% of the tank's design pressure for safety reasons. This study revealed the hydrogen temperature rise during refueling and developed a theoretical model for computing the temperature rise in the HSC during the high-pressure refueling procedure. The HSC filling procedure was examined using a theoretical approach. Also, the relationship between the refueling procedure and the temperature change of hydrogen in the type IV tank was investigated. The temperature evolution mechanism of various HSCs was explained, and predictions were made for the minimum precooling temperature needed for hydrogen under various filling scenarios. The results of the theoretical analysis gave a theoretical foundation to the present method for controlling the hydrogen temperature of the gas source in the hydrogenation station, which then enables us to determine the optimum amount of energy needed for cooling hydrogen in the hydrogen refueling station.
