Previous studies have reported cross‐site relationships between stem diameter at breast height (DBH) and whole‐tree transpiration (Qt) across a variety of species and locations. These relationships enable us to estimate canopy transpiration rates using DBH data from forest inventory networks worldwide. However, transpiration responses to environmental conditions such as soil moisture often depend on tree species and age, suggesting that the DBH–Qt relationship varies with soil moisture conditions. In the present study, we collated Qt of 41 ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa Dougl. ex P. Laws.) trees in young (23‐year‐old), mature (90‐year‐old) and old‐growth (250‐year‐old) forests using the sap flow technique. Sap flux density considering the radial decline (u) was three times higher in young trees than mature and old‐growth trees under wet soil conditions. The largest declines in u were observed in young trees and then mature trees when soil moisture condition changed from wet to dry. Decreases in u were smaller for old‐growth trees than for young and mature trees. The DBH–Qt relationship differed with soil moisture conditions, showing a strong linear correlation under wet condition across all four age groups but a non‐linear correlation under dry condition. u was overestimated by up to 50%, particularly in the young trees when neglecting differences in the response of u to soil water deficit among different ages. These results suggest that differences in u and its responses to soil water deficit among stand ages should be considered when applying the DBH–Qt relationship for other tree species. The purpose of this study was to verify the structural relationship among trust in coach, coach–athlete fit, and coach–athlete relationship. It verified the mediating effect trust in coach on relationships, in relation to coach–athlete fit and coach–athlete relationship. A total of 190 soccer players (N = 190, male; 135, female; 55) registered with the Korea Football Association responded to the survey; and their career in soccer about 6.8 years. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, structural equation modeling. As expected, coach–athlete fit and trust in coach were significantly related to coach–athlete relationship; in addition, the structural relationship among the three variables was significant. Finally, mediating effect of trust in coach between coach–athlete fit and coach–athlete relationship was showed significantly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

13. Improved gross primary production estimation in rice fields through integrated multi‐scale methodologies.

Understanding productivity in agricultural ecosystems is important, as it plays a significant role in modifying regional carbon balances and capturing carbon in the form of agricultural yield. This study in particular combines information from flux determinations using the eddy covariance (EC) methodology, process‐based modeling of carbon gain, remotely (satellite) sensed vegetation indices (VIs), and field surveys to assess the gross primary production (GPP) of rice, which is a primary food crop worldwide. This study relates two major variables determining GPP. The first is leaf area index (LAI) and carboxylation capacity of the rice canopy (Vcuptake), and the second being MODIS remotely sensed vegetation indices (VIs). Success in applying such derived relationships has allowed GPP to be remotely determined over the seasonal course of rice development. The relationship to VIs of both LAI and Vcuptake was analyzed first by using the regression approaches commonly applied in remote sensing studies. However, the resultant GPP estimations derived from these generic models were not consistently accurate and led to a large proportion of underestimations. The new, alternative approach developed to estimate LAI and Vcuptake uses consistent development curves for rice (i.e., relies on consistent biological regulations of plant development). The modeled GPP based on this consistent development curve for both LAI and Vcuptake agreed with R2 from 0.76 to 0.92 (within the 95% confidence interval). The results of this study demonstrate that improved linkages between ground‐based survey data, eddy flux measurements, process‐based models, and remote sensing data can be constructed to estimate GPP in rice paddies. This study suggests further that the conceptual application of the consistent development curve, such as the combining of different scale measurements, has the potential to predict GPP better than the common practice of utilizing simple linear models, when seeking to estimate the critical parameters that influence carbon gain and agricultural yields. The following authors were omitted from the original version of this Data Descriptor: Markus Reichstein and Nicolas Vuichard. Both contributed to the code development and N. Vuichard contributed to the processing of the ERA-Interim data downscaling. Furthermore, the contribution of the co-author Frank Tiedemann was re-evaluated relative to the colleague Corinna Rebmann, both working at the same sites, and based on this re-evaluation a substitution in the co-author list is implemented (with Rebmann replacing Tiedemann). Finally, two affiliations were listed incorrectly and are corrected here (entries 190 and 193). The following authors were omitted from the original version of this Data Descriptor: Markus Reichstein and Nicolas Vuichard. Both contributed to the code development and N. Vuichard contributed to the processing of the ERA-Interim data downscaling. Furthermore, the contribution of the co-author Frank Tiedemann was re-evaluated relative to the colleague Corinna Rebmann, both working at the same sites, and based on this re-evaluation a substitution in the co-author list is implemented (with Rebmann replacing Tiedemann). Finally, two affiliations were listed incorrectly and are corrected here (entries 190 and 193). The author list and affiliations have been amended to address these omissions in both the HTML and PDF versions.

The FLUXNET2015 dataset provides ecosystem-scale data on CO2, water, and energy exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere, and other meteorological and biological measurements, from 212 sites around the globe (over 1500 site-years, up to and including year 2014). These sites, independently managed and operated, voluntarily contributed their data to create global datasets. Data were quality controlled and processed using uniform methods, to improve consistency and intercomparability across sites. The dataset is already being used in a number of applications, including ecophysiology studies, remote sensing studies, and development of ecosystem and Earth system models. FLUXNET2015 includes derived-data products, such as gap-filled time series, ecosystem respiration and photosynthetic uptake estimates, estimation of uncertainties, and metadata about the measurements, presented for the first time in this paper. In addition, 206 of these sites are for the first time distributed under a Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0) license. This paper details this enhanced dataset and the processing methods, now made available as open-source codes, making the dataset more accessible, transparent, and reproducible. The Moderate Resolution Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor has provided near real-time estimates of gross primary production (GPP) since March 2000. We compare four years (2000 to 2003) of satellite-based calculations of GPP with tower eddy C[O.sub.2] flux-based estimates across diverse land cover types and climate regimes. We examine the potential error contributions from meteorology, leaf area index (LAI)/fPAR, and land cover. The error between annual GPP computed from NASA's Data Assimilation Office's (DAO) and tower-based meteorology is 28%, indicating that NASA's DAO global meteorology plays an important role in the accuracy of the GPP algorithm. Approximately 62% of MOD15-based estimates of LAI were within the estimates based on field optical measurements, although remaining values overestimated site values. Land cover presented the fewest errors, with most errors within the forest classes, reducing potential error. Tower-based and MODIS estimates of annual GPP compare favorably for most biomes, although MODIS GPP overestimates tower-based calculations by 20%-30%. Seasonally, summer estimates of MODIS GPP are closest to tower data, and spring estimates are the worst, most likely the result of the relatively rapid onset of leaf-out. The results of this study indicate, however, that the current MODIS GPP algorithm shows reasonable spatial patterns and temporal variability across a diverse range of biomes and climate regimes. So, while continued efforts are needed to isolate particular problems in specific biomes, we are optimistic about the general quality of these data, and continuation of the MODI7 GPP product will likely provide a key component of global terrestrial ecosystem analysis, providing continuous weekly measurements of global vegetation production. High latitude ecosystems were thought to enhance CH_4 emission in relation to the current arctic warming. However, we have little information about this potential feedback mechanisms on climate change, thus, model parameterization is insufficient and the observational data are required. We observed CH_4 flux at several types of tundra in Alaska over the growing seasons since 1995. From these observed data, we examined current CH_4 emission and its controlling factors on Alaskan tundra. Then we discussed about spatial and temporal differences in CH_4 flux. Daily trend of half hourly CH_4 flux had little relation with soil temperature, but the seasonal trend of daily flux changed with soil or water temperature. Cumulative CH_4 fluxes during the growing seasons were 8.1gCH_4m^(-2) on wet sedge tundra at Happy Valley in 1995, 3.3gCH_4m^(-2) on non-acidic moist tundra in 1996, and 3.58-8.24gCH_4m^(-2) on wet sedge tundra at Barrow between 1999-2003. Non-acidic tundra had low CH_4 emission with low CO_2 accumulation. There was large spatial difference in CH_4 flux caused by tundra type, and the large temporal difference at the wet sedge tundra reflected yearly weather variability.
