Articles published in 22 counseling journals from 2010-2019 were compared on 26 author and article characteristics. Women now constitute majorities of authorship and counseling journals are publishing larger proportions of research articles, 63% of which used quantitative approaches and about 11% of which studied counseling interventions.

In this consensual qualitative research study, we investigated the role of refugees' Christian faith in meaning‐making coping. High percentages of religiosity in refugee populations support the need to understand the role of religion in their coping processes. Interviews with 20 Christian refugees from 10 African and Asian countries revealed that participants drew heavily from their faith resources to cope with their experiences. Specifically, refugees reported coping practices that included trust in God, prayer, intimacy with God, spiritual surrender, lament, worship, and social support. Although many participants described spiritual struggles, including doubting God, feeling distant from God, and questioning God, most found meaning amid refugee‐related suffering and reported perspective shifts, a deepening of faith, seeing suffering as part of God's plan, experiencing a deepened sense of purpose, and growing in the likeness of Christ. Refugees also reported growth through suffering in the form of gratitude, altruism, testimony, and humility. Article content and author characteristics were analysed in the articles published in the British Journal of Guidance and Counselling (BJGC) from 2000–2019 to determine trends over time. The BJGC publishes more total articles and guidance and counselling research articles annually than any other guidance and counselling journal except the Journal of Counseling & Development. The University of Leeds was the leading institutional contributor. The proportion of UK and non-university-affiliated lead authors declined, while the proportion of women authors and collaboration increased. More research-based articles are being published, about 55% of which use qualitative approaches, and 12% of which evaluate guidance and counselling interventions. In this study, the researchers examined the relationship among an orientation toward multicultural counseling competence, multicultural competent behaviors, and the working alliance from the perspective of 574 client participants across various therapeutic dyads. There was a positive relationship between clients' perspectives on counselors' multicultural orientation, counselors' multicultural competent behavior, and working alliance. Multicultural competent behaviors mediated the relationship between an orientation toward multicultural competence and working alliance. However, the mediated effect was inconsistent across cross and similar racial/ethnic therapeutic dyads.
