27. ZnS:Mn2+ Quantum Dots as Efficient Photocatalyst for Organic Dye Decolorization

Abstract

Fluorescent zinc blende structured pure and Mn2+ doped ZnS quantum dots were prepared by simple aqueous based technique at room temperature. Under UV-excitation the quantum dots show photoluminescence bands at 2.1 and 3.0 eV corresponded to Mn2+ and ZnS intrinsic defect emission, respectively. The photocatalytic activity was tested for the photodegradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution. The influence of the Mn2+ concentration on the dye decolorization efficiency was studied. The highest photocatalytic degradation rate of methylene blue was obtained for ZnS quantum dots in glutathione shell doped with 0.5 at.% of Mn2+. The mechanisms of photoluminescence and photocatalytic activity were discussed.

Abstract

The microstructure of LaFe11.6Si1.4 compound under itinerant-electron metamagnetic transition was investigated by means of optical microscopy. It was found that the field-induced phase transition observed in LaFe11.6Si1.4 compound preceded via nucleation and growth of the ferromagnetic phase.

29. Self-Assembly of Ag 2 S Colloidal Nanoparticles Stabilized by MPS in Water Solution.

Abstract

Self-assembly of colloidal Ag 2 S nanoparticles (NPs) was studied in the presence of (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPS). Solutions with different molar ratios of Ag 2 S/MPS were prepared. The appearance of nano- and microtubes was detected. Self-organized NPs were studied with optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Silicon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ( 29 Si NMR) was used to study polycondensation of MPS molecules. Geometrical parameters of the nano- and microtubes depended on the molar ratio of Ag 2 S/MPS. The scheme and mechanism of self-assembly of Ag 2 S NPs in nanotubes in the presence of MPS were proposed.
