1. Knowledge Transfer in Model-Based Reinforcement Learning Agents for Efficient Multi-Task Learning

Abstract

We propose an efficient knowledge transfer approach for model-based reinforcement learning, addressing the challenge of deploying large world models in resource-constrained environments. Our method distills a high-capacity multi-task agent (317M parameters) into a compact 1M parameter model, achieving state-of-the-art performance on the MT30 benchmark with a normalized score of 28.45, a substantial improvement over the original 1M parameter model's score of 18.93. This demonstrates the ability of our distillation technique to consolidate complex multi-task knowledge effectively. Additionally, we apply FP16 post-training quantization, reducing the model size by 50% while maintaining performance. Our work bridges the gap between the power of large models and practical deployment constraints, offering a scalable solution for efficient and accessible multi-task reinforcement learning in robotics and other resource-limited domains., Comment: Preprint of an extended abstract accepted to AAMAS 2025

2. Balancing Performance and Efficiency in Zero-shot Robotic Navigation

Abstract

We present an optimization study of the Vision-Language Frontier Maps (VLFM) applied to the Object Goal Navigation task in robotics. Our work evaluates the efficiency and performance of various vision-language models, object detectors, segmentation models, and multi-modal comprehension and Visual Question Answering modules. Using the $\textit{val-mini}$ and $\textit{val}$ splits of Habitat-Matterport 3D dataset, we conduct experiments on a desktop with limited VRAM. We propose a solution that achieves a higher success rate (+1.55%) improving over the VLFM BLIP-2 baseline without substantial success-weighted path length loss while requiring $\textbf{2.3 times}$ less video memory. 4. StairNet: Visual Recognition of Stairs for Human-Robot Locomotion

Abstract

Human-robot walking with prosthetic legs and exoskeletons, especially over complex terrains such as stairs, remains a significant challenge. Egocentric vision has the unique potential to detect the walking environment prior to physical interactions, which can improve transitions to and from stairs. This motivated us to create the StairNet initiative to support the development of new deep learning models for visual sensing and recognition of stairs, with an emphasis on lightweight and efficient neural networks for onboard real-time inference. In this study, we present an overview of the development of our large-scale dataset with over 515,000 manually labeled images, as well as our development of different deep learning models (e.g., 2D and 3D CNN, hybrid CNN and LSTM, and ViT networks) and training methods (e.g., supervised learning with temporal data and semi-supervised learning with unlabeled images) using our new dataset. We consistently achieved high classification accuracy (i.e., up to 98.8%) with different designs, offering trade-offs between model accuracy and size. When deployed on mobile devices with GPU and NPU accelerators, our deep learning models achieved inference speeds up to 2.8 ms. We also deployed our models on custom-designed CPU-powered smart glasses. However, limitations in the embedded hardware yielded slower inference speeds of 1.5 seconds, presenting a trade-off between human-centered design and performance. Overall, we showed that StairNet can be an effective platform to develop and study new visual perception systems for human-robot locomotion with applications in exoskeleton and prosthetic leg control.

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the normative and legal aspect of public policy in the field of environmental protection and generalize the relevant legislative basis. Research results. The understanding of the concept of “sphere of the environment” and the content of its legal regulation are generalized. It is substantiated that under the European integration, adaptation of international experience to domestic legal realities, as well as harmonization of national and international legislation the development of the latest forms and methods of environmental protection is an urgent issue. Practical meaning. It is noted that there is a critical need to develop new and improve existing legal acts, taking into account modern trends, since the war unleashed by Russia on the territory of Ukraine causes critical damage to the environment and ecology of Ukraine, and accordingly, such actions must be properly qualified. Value/originality. The perspective of further research is the need to analyze the methods of protection in the field of environmental protection, which are defined as effective tools for the protection of nature from harmful effects. Informative and complementary to research is the question of using international experience in improving the relevant national mechanism.

10. Features of the actors ensuring national security of Ukraine

Abstract

The article aims to elucidate the key features of the actors ensuring the national security of Ukraine. Methodology. The methodological basis for the research is a set of modern general and specific methods and techniques of scientific knowledge, such as logical and semantic, dogmatic, analytical, documentary analysis, classification and systematization, modeling and forecasting methods. Research results. It was stated that these actors possess a specific set of minimal characteristics, which qualifies them as integral components within the structure of entities responsible for ensuring national security. In their activities, they pursue specific goals, thus implementing the function of ensuring national security. Thus, the corresponding circle of actors perform actions that are characterized by a special content, which is based on the rules of current legislation. Practical implementation. A notable feature of the entities under consideration is the performance of an important public meta function – the function of ensuring national security. This function is realized through the implementation of a set of target functions aimed at ensuring the conditions of national security. These target functions include law-making, protective, security, defense, control, coordination, ideological, and educational functions. It is also important to keep in mind that the studied actors are engaged in activities consistent with the principles of ensuring national security and comply with the requirements of current legislation. Value/originality. It is concluded that under current national security doctrine of Ukraine the actors ensuring it appear as subjects of administrative law, which are characterized by certain key features.

Abstract

During the research, the method of geometric modeling of distributed systems and related technological objects was developed. The method is based on the use of functional graphs. In the context of the research, the main differences between such graphs are: modeling of technological objects of distributed systems only by vertices without the use of edges to reproduce the mentioned objects; using the edges exclusively for the reproduction of the connections between the objects. Weighing of the vertices of the specified graphs is performed using the assigned functions or functionals with a complete absence of weights of the edges.In contrast to the closest analogues, the basis of the analytical interpretation of the formed graphic models in the proposed method is formed not by the incidence matrices, but by the parametric-topological adjacency matrices. In such conditions, the principles of assigning weight coefficients of graph elements change significantly: instead of the positional distribution of the weight sets elements between the matrix cells, the assignment of the specified elements as function arguments as a part of functional vertices is used. In the mentioned approach, a diagonal way of prescribing functions or functionals of vertices in the adjacency matrix is used. The assignment of the connections between the graph elements in the analytical interpretation is performed according to the introduced positional principle with the use of positive or negative logic. With this approach, the possibility of analytical formation of multiple connections between the vertices with an arbitrary number and direction, which was not used in the matrix of adjacency previously, is reached. Moreover, assigning functional dependencies to the graph elements allows the reproduction of not only static, but also the dynamic characteristics of the modeled objects in the geometric model.The practical value of the proposed method is increasing the universality and simplifying the automated configuration of software management systems. Achieving this result is possible by reducing the amount of input data and the possibility of introducing additional functions of control objects without the modification of the output code. In addition, the improvement of the formalized drawing up of technical tasks in the development of technical documentation and hardware distribution systems is provided. Furthermore, the integration of the method into existing CAE and CAD systems is possible, which provides opportunities for building up and creating fundamentally new similar systems.Further development of the proposed method consists in solving the problems related to the optimization of the distribution of arguments of vertex functions by cells of parametric-topological matrices., В процессе исследования разработан метод геометрического моделирования распределённых систем и связанных технологических объектов. В основу метода заложено использование функциональных графов. В контексте исследования основными отличительными особенностями данных графов являются: моделирование технологических объектов распределённых систем исключительно вершинами, без применения рёбер для воспроизведения; 2) использование рёбер исключительно для воспроизведения связей между объектами; 3) взвешивание вершин с помощью назначенных функций или функционалов с полным отсутствием взвешенности рёбер.В отличие от ближайших аналогов в основу аналитической интерпретации формируемых графических моделей в предлагаемом методе заложены не матрицы инцидентности, а параметрично-топологические матрицы смежности. При этом существенно изменяется принцип присвоения весовых коэффициентов элементам графа: вместо позиционного распределения элементов весовых множеств между ячейками матриц используется задание указанных элементов в качестве аргументов функций в составе функциональных вершин. При этом применён диагональный способ прописывания функций или функционалов вершин в матрице смежности. Задание связей между элементами графа при аналитической интерпретации выполняется по введённому позиционному принципу с применением положительной либо отрицательной логики. При таком подходе достигается возможность аналитического формирования множественных связей между вершинами с произвольными количеством и направленностью, что ранее не применялось в составе матриц смежности. Кроме этого, присвоение элементам графа функциональных зависимостей позволяет воспроизводить в составе геометрической модели не только статические, но и динамические характеристики моделируемых объектов.Практическая ценность предлагаемого метода состоит в: 1) повышении универсальности и упрощении процедур автоматизированного конфигурирования программного обеспечения систем управления за счёт сокращения объёма вводимых данных и возможности введения дополнительных функций объектов управления без правки исходного кода; 2) совершенствовании формализованного составления технических заданий при разработке технической документации и аппаратного обеспечения распределенных систем; 3) интеграции в существующие системы САЕ и САПР, возможности наращивания возможностей и создании принципиально новых таких систем.Последующее развитие предлагаемого метода состоит в разрешении вопросов, связанных с оптимизацией распределения аргументов функций вершин по ячейкам парамерично-топологических матриц, У процесі дослідження розроблено метод геометричного моделювання розподілених систем і пов'язаних з ними технологічних об'єктів. В основу методу закладено використання функціональних графів. В контексті дослідження основними відмінностями таких графів є: моделювання технологічних об’єктів розподілених систем виключно вершинами, без застосування ребер для відтворення зазначених об’єктів; використання ребер виключно для відтворення зв'язків між об'єктами. Зважування вершин зазначених графів виконується за допомогою призначених функцій або функціоналів з повною відсутністю виваженості ребер.На відміну від найближчих аналогів, в основу аналітичної інтерпретації сформованих графічних моделей в пропонованому методі закладені не матриці інцидентності, а параметрично-топологічні матриці суміжності. В таких умовах істотно змінюється принципи присвоєння вагових коефіцієнтів елементів графа: замість позиційного розподілу елементів вагових множин між комірками матриць використовується завдання зазначених елементів в якості аргументів функцій у складі функціональних вершин. При зазначеному підході застосований діагональний спосіб прописування функцій або функціоналів вершин в матриці суміжності. Завдання зв'язків між елементами графа при аналітичній інтерпретації виконується по введеному позиційному принципу із застосуванням додатної або від’ємної логіки. При такому підході досягається можливість аналітичного формування множинних зв'язків між вершинами з довільною кількістю і спрямованістю, що раніше не застосовувалося в складі матриць суміжності. Крім цього, присвоєння елементам графа функціональних залежностей дозволяє відтворювати в складі геометричної моделі не тільки статичних, але й динамічних характеристик об'єктів, що моделюються.Практична цінність пропонованого методу полягає в підвищенні універсальності і спрощенні процедур автоматизованої конфігурації програмного забезпечення систем керування. Досягнення такого результату можливе за рахунок скорочення обсягу даних, що вводяться, і можливості введення додаткових функцій об'єктів керування без правки вихідного коду. Додатково забезпечується вдосконалення формалізованого складання технічних завдань при розробленні технічної документації та апаратного забезпечення розподілених систем. Крім того, можлива інтеграція методу в існуючі системи САЕ і САПР, що забезпечує нарощування можливостей і створення принципово нових таких систем.Подальший розвиток запропонованого методу полягає у розв'язанні питань, пов'язаних з оптимізацією розподілу аргументів функцій вершин по комірках парамерично-топологічних матриць

Abstract

Мета. З огляду на фактори ризику смерті внаслідок тромбоемболії легеневої артерії (ТЕЛА) визначити методи профілактики тромбоемболічних ускладнень у пацієнтів, оперованих з приводу нейрохірургічних захворювань, у післяопераційному періоді.Матеріали і методи. Проаналізовані дані історій хвороби 163 пацієнтів, оперованих у 2010–2014 рр. з приводу різних нейрохірургічних захворювань. Хворі розподілені на дві групи: 63 з них (перша група) померли після операції внаслідок ТЕЛА; 100 (друга група) — у яких тромбоемболічних ускладнень не було.Результати. Внаслідок тромбоемболічного ускладнення вмирали однаково часто як чоловіки, так і жінки (ВР=1; 95% ДІ 0,68–1,48; p=0,99).Ризик смерті внаслідок ТЕЛА у хворих віком 41–60 років вдвічі вищий, ніж хворих віком 18–40 років (ВР=2,00; 95% ДІ 0,94–4,26; p=0,07), віком старше 60 років — у 2,5 разу вищий, ніж хворих віком 18–40 років (ВР=2,50; 95% ДІ 1,14–5,47; p=0,02).При тромбофлебіті судин нижніх кінцівок хворі вмирають внаслідок ТЕЛА майже втричі частіше, ніж за його відсутності (ВР=2,98; 95% ДІ 2,29–3,8; p=0,00); за гіпертонічної хвороби ймовірність смерті після операції внаслідок ТЕЛА в 2,61 разу вища, ніж за нормального артеріального тиску (ВР=2,61; 95% ДІ 1,64–4,15; p=0,00); наявність фібриляції і миготіння передсердь підвищує ризик смерті внаслідок ТЕЛА більш ніж удвічі (ВР=2,11; 95% ДІ 1,48-2,99; p=0,00).За збільшення гематокриту та наявності цукрового діабету ризик смерті внаслідок ТЕЛА підвищується відповідно в 1,4 та 1,21 разу. Проте, оскільки р-величина (0,09 та 0,56) більша за встановлений рівень значущості (0,05),і нижня межа довірчого інтервалу (0,96 та 0,65) не перетинає межу відсутності ефекту (1,0), можна вважати, що ці чинники справляють деякий вплив, для остаточного висновку потрібне подальше дослідження.Ожиріння не є фактором підвищеного ризику смерті внаслідок ТЕЛА (ВР=0,92; 95% ДІ 0,52–1,61; р=0,77).Висновки. 1. Значущими факторами підвищеного ризику смерті внаслідок ТЕЛА у пацієнтів, оперованих з приводу н, Цель. Проанализированы данные историй болезни 163 пациентов, оперированных в 2010–2014 гг. по поводу различных нейрохирургических заболеваний. Больные распределены на две группы: 63 из них (первая группа) умерли вследствие ТЭЛА после операции; у 100 (вторая группа) — тромбоэмболических осложнений не было.Результаты. Вследствие тромбоэмболических осложнений умирали одинаково часто как мужчины, так и женщины (ОР=1; 95% ДИ 0,68–1,48; p=0,99).Риск смерти от ТЭЛА больных в возрасте 41–60 лет в 2 раза выше, чем в возрасте 18–40 лет (ОР=2,00; 95% ДИ 0,94–4,26; p=0,07), в возрасте старше 60 лет — в 2,5 раза выше, чем в возрасте 18–40 лет (ОР=2,50; 95% ДИ 1,14–5,47; p=0,02).При тромбофлебите сосудов нижних конечностей больные умирают вследствие ТЭЛА почти в 3 раза чаще, чем при его отсутствии (ОР=2,98; 95% ДИ 2,29–3,8; p=0,00); при гипертонической болезни вероятность умереть после операции вследствие ТЭЛА в 2,61 раза выше, чем при нормальном артериальном давлении (ОР=2,61; 95% ДИ 1,64–4,15; p=0,00); наличие фибрилляции и трепетания предсердий повышает риск смерти от ТЭЛА более чем в 2 раза (ОР=2,11; 95% ДИ 1,48–2,99; p=0,00).Увеличение гематокрита и сахарный диабет повышают риск смерти от ТЭЛА соответственно в 1,4 и 1,21 раза. Однако поскольку p-величина (0,09 и 0,56) больше установленного уровня значимости (0,05), и нижняя граница доверительного интервала (0,96 и 0,65) не пересекает границу отсутствия эффекта (1,0), можно считать, что эти факторы оказывают некоторое влияние, окончательно этот вывод требует дальнейшего исследования.Ожирение не является фактором повышенного риска смерти от ТЭЛА (ОР=0,92; 95% ДИ 0,52–1,61; р=0,77).Выводы. 1. Мета роботи: навести аргументи, що дозволили б наблизити оцінку тяжкості черепно-мозкової травми (ЧМТ), існуючу сьогодні в судовій експертизі, до клінічної практики.Матеріали і методи дослідження. Проведений ретроспективний аналіз 280 історій хвороби потерпілих, яких лікували з приводу ЧМТ, та 131 патологоанатомічного дослідження померлих від тяжкої травми голови. Тяжкість ЧМТ оцінювали за шкалою ком Глазго і класифікацією ЧМТ. Статистичну обробку матеріалу здійснювали з застосуванням критерію c2.Результати. Аналіз локалізації переломів черепа свідчив, що за легкої ЧМТ характерний перелом однієї кістки — у 38 (78,9%) потерпілих та склепіння черепа — у 45 (91,8%); за ЧМТ середньої тяжкості і тяжкої відзначали переломи кількох кісток — у 18 (50%) потерпілих, що поширювалися на основу черепа — у 5 (13,8%). У 57,6% спостережень переломи відзначали за легкої ЧМТ. Наявність переломів за легкої ЧМТ при супутніх внутрішньочерепних ушкодженнях зумовлює тривале існування післяконтузійних симптомів (c2=4,9, p=0,026). Проведення комп’ютерної томографії (КТ) обов’язкове при травмі голови, що дає можливість об’єктивізувати причину тривалого існування післяконтузійного синдрому під час експертної оцінки тяжкості ЧМТ.Висновки. 1. Закритий перелом черепа як ушкодження тільки кісткової тканини, у більшості спостережень не можна розглядати як безпосередню причину смерті потерпілих. 2. Лінійній перелом склепіння черепа є фактором ризику можливих внутрішньочерепних ушкоджень, проте, не є предиктором тяжкості ЧМТ. 3. Наявність відкритої проникаючої ЧМТ, множинних і уламкових переломів кісток, переломів основи черепа, а також пневмоцефалії, ліквореї свідчить про формування небезпечного для життя потерпілого стану. 4. Наявність лінійних переломів за легкої ЧМТ при супутніх внутрішньочерепних ушкодженнях зумовлює тривале існування післяконтузійних симптомів., Цель работы: привести аргументы, которые позволили бы приблизить существующую сегодня в судебной медицине оценку тяжести черепно-мозговой травмы (ЧМТ) к клинической практике.Материалы и методы исследования. При ЧМТ средней тяжести и тяжелой переломы локализовались в нескольких костях — у 18 (50%) потерпевших и распространялись на основание черепа — у 5 (13,8%). Переломы черепа наблюдали у 57,6% пострадавших при легкой ЧМТ. Наличие переломов при легкой ЧМТ при сопутствующих внутричерепных повреждениях обусловливает длительное существование постконтузионных симптомов (c2=4,9, p=0,026). Проведение компьютерной томографии обязательно при травме головы, что дает возможность объективизировать причину длительного существования постконтузионного синдрома при экспертной оценке тяжести ЧМТ.Выводы. 1. Закрытый перелом черепа как повреждение только костной ткани у большинства пострадавших нельзя рассматривать как непосредственную причину смерти. 2. Линейный перелом свода черепа является фактором риска возможных внутричерепных повреждений, но не предиктором тяжести ЧМТ. 3. Наличие открытой проникающей ЧМТ, множественных и оскольчатых переломов костей, переломов основания черепа, а также пневмоцефалии, ликвореи свидетельствует о формировании опасного для жизни пострадавшего состояния. 4. Наличие линейных переломов при легкой ЧМТ и сопутствующих внутричерепных повреждений обусловливает длительное существование постконтузионных симптомов., Purpose. To provide arguments that would allow to bring existing today in forensic medicine evaluation of the severity of traumatic brain injury (TBI) to clinical practice.Materials and methods. A retrospective analysis of 280 cases histories of patients been treated for TBI was provided, and 131 autopsy protocols of dead from severe TBI. Clinical evaluation of TBI severity was made according to the Glasgow Coma Scale and TBI classification. The data were statistically processed using c2.Results. The analysis of skull fractures localization showed that mild TBI is characterized by fracture of one bone — in 38 (78.9%) cases and skull vault — in 45 (91.8%). At moderate and severe TBI fractures are localized in several bones — in 18 (50%) cases spreading on the skull base in 5 (13.8%). 57.6% skull fractures were observed in patients with mild TBI. Fractures in patients with mild TBI and concomitant intracranial injuries determines the duration of post-contusion symptoms (c2=4,9; p=0,026). CT is an obligatory examination at head trauma, also it allows to objectify the cause of the prolonged post-contusion syndrome at expert assessment of TBI severity.Conclusions. 1. Closed scull fracture as a damage just of the bones in most cases can not be regarded as the immediate cause of death. 2. Linear scull fracture is a possible risk factor for intracranial lesions, but not a predictor of TBI severity. 3. Open penetrating head injury, multiple and comminuted fractures, skull base fractures, as well as pneumocephalus, liquorrhea indicate forming of life-threatening condition of the victim. 4. Linear fractures at mild TBI and associated intracranial injury cause prolonged existence of post-contusion symptoms.
