Aim: This study purposed to evaluate thyroid hormone levels and work-related factors in workers.Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was perfomed at 475 workers who applied to the outpatient clinic of occupational diseases between November 2015-February 2020. Sociodemographic variables, work-related factors and laboratory records were retrospectively evaluated. Student’s t-test was performed to compare mean values. Multiple linear regression analysis was used, including independent variables that were found to be statistically significantly related in binary analysis of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) value.Results: Of the 475 participants, 433 (91.2%) were male and 173 (36.4%) worked night shifts, 293 (61.7%) were exposed to silica dust, 23 (4.8%) to plastic fumes, and 80 (16.8%) to solvent. Study participants who were over 40 years of age, night shift workers, and workers with exposure to silica dust had significantly lower TSH values (p=0.026, p=0.023, p=0.002, respectively); male workers, workers under 40 years of age, and workers with body mass index (BMI), Amaç: Meslek hastalıkları polikliniğine başvuranlarda tiroid hormon düzeyleri ile işle ilişkili faktörlerindeğerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya üniversite hastanesi meslek hastalıkları polikliniğine Kasım 2015- Şubat 2020 tarihleri arasında başvuran 475 çalışan dahil edildi. Çalışanların verilerine; meslek hastalıkları poliklinik muayene formları ve laboratuvar kayıtları retrospektif olarak incelenerek ulaşıldı. Ortalama değerleri karşılaştırmak için Student t testi kullanıldı. İkili analizlerde tiroid stimulan hormon (TSH) değeri ile istatiksel olarak anlamlı ilişkili saptanan bağımsız değişkenler için çoklu lineer regresyon analizi yapıldı.Bulgular: i475 çalışanın 433'ü (%91,2) erkek ve 173'ü (%36,4) gece vardiyasında çalışıyordu. İşyerinde 293’ü (%61,7) silika tozuna, 23'ü (%4,8) plastik dumana ve 80'i (%16,8) solvente maruz kaldığını ifade etti. 40 yaş üzeri olanlarda (p=0.026), gece vardiyalı çalışanlarda (p=0.023), silika tozuna maruz kalanlarda (p=0.002) daha düşük TSH değerleri; erkek çalışanlarda (p=0.017), 40 yaş altı olanlarda (p=0.042), vücut kitle indeksi (VKİ) 25’den küçük olanlarda (p=0.026) serbest T4 düzeyleri daha yüksek olarak bulundu. Regresyon analizinde VKİ, silika tozu maruziyeti, gece vardiyası çalışması ile azalmış TSH düzeyi arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu görüldü (sırasıyla p=0.033, p=0.028, p=0.045).Sonuç: Meslek hastalıkları polikliniğine başvuran çalışanlarda gece vardiyalı çalışma ve silika tozuna maruziyetin azalmış TSH seviyeleri ile ilişkili olduğu bulundu. Silika tozu maruziyeti ve gece vardiyalı çalışma önlenebilir risk faktörleri arasında yer almaktadır. Bu nedenle çalışma ortamı yeniden düzenlenmeli, periyodik sağlık muayeneleri yapılmalı, çalışanların iş sağlığı ve güvenliği kurallarına uymaları sağlanmalıdır.

Background: Occupational diseases can be prevented by implementing the appropriate occupational health and safety measures against occupational hazards in the workplace. Unfamiliarity with and mis-management of occupational diseases by physicians is often linked to inadequate medical training. This study aims to investigate medical students' awareness of, knowledge and attitudes towards oc-cupational health, exposure to occupational hazards, and preventive measures.Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with medical students between March and June 2021. Due to the introduction of online education during the COVID-19 pandemic, the questionnaire was sent to the students in the electronic medium. The data analysis was performed with SPSS (version 21). Pearson chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used for the comparison of the categorical variables for two independent groups.Results: Of the 547 medical students who participated in the study, 56.7% (n= 310) were female, and 43.3% (n=257) were male. The median age was 22 (18-30) years. Of the students, 29.4% (n=161) were attending the preclinical classes, 27.8% (n=152) were 6th-year, 21.9% (n=120) were 4th-year, and 20.8% (n=114) were 5th-year. Of the participants, 12.2% (n=67) scored their level of knowledge about the perceived occupational diseases 1 out of 5, 40% (n=219) scored 2 out of 5, 38.6% (n=211) scored 3 out of 5, 9.1% (n=50) scored 4 out of 5. It was found that the level of knowledge increased with the class level.Conclusions: This study showed that the medical students' knowledge about occupational diseases is at a moderate level, and it is essential to offer a dedicated course on occupational diseases during medical training in order to increase their knowledge about these diseases., Amaç: Mesleki tehlikelere karşı işyerinde gerekli iş sağlığı ve güvenliği önlemlerinin alınması ve uygulanması ile meslek hastalıkları önlenebilmektedir. İşle ilgili hastalıkların tanınmaması ve yanlış yönetilmesi genellikle yetersiz tıp eğitimiyle bağlantılıdır. Tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin mesleki tehlikelere maruz kalma konusundaki ve önleyici tedbirler hakkındaki farkındalıklarını, bilgilerini ve iş sağlığına yönelik tutumlarını araştırmayı amaçlamaktadır.Materyal ve Metod: Kesitsel nitelikte olan bu çalışma, Mart 2021-Haziran 2021 tarihleri arasında tıp fakültesi öğrencileri arasında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Pandemi sürecinde online eğitim olması nedeniyle çalışmanın anketi, öğrencilere elektronik ortamda gönderildi.Verilerin analizi için SPSS v21.0 paket programı kullanıldı. İki bağımsız grubun karşılaştırılmasında kategorik değişkenler için Pearson ki-kare testi ve Fischer Exact Testi kullanıldı.Bulgular: Çalışmamıza katılan 547 öğrencinin %56.7’si kadın, %43.3’ü erkek ve yaş median değeri 22(18-30) idi. Öğrencilerin %29.4’ü preklinik sınıf, %27.8’i 6. sınıf, %21.9’u 4. sınıf, %20.8’i 5. sınıfa devam etmekteydi.Tıp fakültesi öğrencileri, algıladıkları meslek hastalıkları hakkındaki bilgi düzeyini 5 puan üzerinden %12.2’si 1, %40’ı 2, %38.6’sı 3, %9.1’i 4 olarak tanımladılar ve sınıf düzeyi artması ile birlikte bilgi düzeyinin arttığı saptandı.Sonuç: Bu çalışma, tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin meslek hastalıkları hakkındaki bilgi düzeyinin orta düzeyde olduğunu ve daha fazla bilgi sahibi olmak için tıp fakültesi eğitimi boyunca meslek hastalıkları dersinin ayrıca verilmesi gerekli olduğunu göstermektedir.

Amaç: Yaşam kalitesi; bireyin fiziksel fonksiyonu, iş ve kişisel yaşamı, psikolojik durumu, aile içindeki ve dışındaki sosyal ilişkileri ve kişinin yaşadığı çevreden, sağlık ve istihdam politikalarından etkilenebilen çok boyutlu bir yapıdır. Çalışmamızda meslek hastalıkları polikliniğine başvuranlarda yaşam kalitesini değerlendirmeyi, ilişkili sosyodemografik, mesleki özellikler, sağlık durumlarını ortaya koymayı amaçladık. Yöntem: Kasım 2018–Kasım 2019 tarihleri arasında meslek hastalıkları polikliniğine başvuran 168 katılımcı çalışmaya dahil edildi. Yaşam kalitelerini değerlendirmek için Dünya Sağlık Örgütü, Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği Kısa Formu (WHOQOL-BREF) kullanıldı. Bulgular: Katılımcıların %87.5’i erkek, yaş ortalaması 40.46(±0.7) idi. WHOQOL-BREF alt parametre alan ortalamaları sırasıyla çevre alanı (58.6±16.8), psikolojik alan (56.4±18.9), sosyal ilişkiler alanı (56.2±22.7), fiziksel sağlık alanı (47.9±20.6) idi. Çalışmamızda kadınlarda, işsiz olanlarda, vardiyalı çalışan, aylık geliri düşük, meslek hastalığı ve komorbid hastalığı olanlarda yaşam kalitesi puanlarının anlamlı düzeyde daha düşük olduğu gözlenmiştir(p

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) is a common, preventable and treatable disease that is characterizedby persistent respiratory symptoms and air flow limitation that is due to airway and/or alveolar abnormalities usuallycaused by significant exposure to harmful particles or gases. The main risk factor for COPD is smoking but other environmental exposures such as biomass fuel exposure and air pollution may contribute. Besides exposures, host factorspredispose individuals to develop COPD. These include genetic abnormalities, abnormal lung development and aging.Our case is a 34 years old, male patient with complaints of dispnea with exercise. No pathological findings were foundon physical examination. There was no history of smoking. It was learned that the patient worked as a baker for a totalof nine years in the occupational history. While working in the bakery, there was biomass exposure and graindust exposure as indoor air pollutants. A mild degree of obstruction was detected in the pulmonary function test. Bronchodi lator reversibility response was negative.There was no abnormality on the chest X-ray and High-resolution computedtomography (HRCT). The ?-1 antitrypsin and cystic fibrosis sweat test levels were within normal limits, and the cysticfibrosis gene test was negative. Occupational COPD due to occupational biomass and grain dust exposure was considered in the patient who had no smoking history and congenital risk factors. This case, which is currently working in theweapons industry but has been exposed to occupational COPD risk factors in the past, shows the importance of takinga detailed occupational history while taking an anamnesis.

Various chemicals are known to cause aplastic anemia due to bone marrow toxicity. Long-term exposure to benzene in the workplace has been associated with hematological disorders (thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, acute myeloid leukemia, lymphoma). Although the use of pure benzene was banned and substituted with other solvents, benzene is still used in the form of mixtures. The automotive painting sector, in particular, is one of the areas where benzene and its derivatives are used more frequently. Benzene and its derivatives are used to increase the fluidity of paints and are included in paints, thinners, and varnishes. Hematotoxicity of benzene is related to the amount and duration of exposure. In Turkey, there are serious difficulties in the implementation of occupational health and safety measures in small-scale enterprises. In this case report, it was described how aplastic anemia developed in a patient who had worked in a small-size automotive painting business with inadequate occupational health and safety measures for 23 years might be related to occupational benzene exposure. It is recommended that such businesses should be inspected concerning occupational health and safety and necessary precautions should be taken in order to prevent such serious, preventable occupational diseases. © 2020 Kare Publishing. WOS: 000443459600003, OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the level of knowledge about radiation safety, the frequency of the use of protective equipment, and the reasons for not using it among healthcare workers. METHODS The data were collected by administering a standard cross-sectional survey via the internet to 443 healthcare workers exposed to radiation. The chi-square test was used to compare groups. RESULTS The median age of participants was 30 years, and 52.8% were females. Participants comprised radiology (61.4%), radiation oncology (21.4%), cardiology (7.2%), fluoroscopy use (5.9%), and nuclear medicine (4.1%) workers. In total, 90.1% of the workers had dosimeters. Of those who used fluoroscopy, only 11.5% had dosimeters. A total of 20.3% of the workers stated that dosimetry is reliable, and 89.7% of the workers in the cardiology and fluoroscopy use groups knew that they had to wear lead aprons (p
