2. VIPE: A new interactive classification framework for large sets of short texts - application to opinion mining

Abstract

This paper presents a new interactive opinion mining tool that helps users to classify large sets of short texts originated from Web opinion polls, technical forums or Twitter. From a manual multi-label pre-classification of a very limited text subset, a learning algorithm predicts the labels of the remaining texts of the corpus and the texts most likely associated to a selected label. Using a fast matrix factorization, the algorithm is able to handle large corpora and is well-adapted to interactivity by integrating the corrections proposed by the users on the fly. Experimental results on classical datasets of various sizes and feedbacks of users from marketing services of the telecommunication company Orange confirm the quality of the obtained results., Comment: 8 pages

4. Characterisation of spatial network-like patterns from junctions' geometry

Abstract

We propose a new method for quantitative characterization of spatial network-like patterns with loops, such as surface fracture patterns, leaf vein networks and patterns of urban streets. Such patterns are not well characterized by purely topological estimators: also patterns that both look different and result from different morphogenetic processes can have similar topology. A local geometric cue -the angles formed by the different branches at junctions- can complement topological information and allow to quantify the large scale spatial coherence of the pattern. For patterns that grow over time, such as fracture lines on the surface of ceramics, the rank assigned by our method to each individual segment of the pattern approximates the order of appearance of that segment. We apply the method to various network-like patterns and we find a continuous but sharp dichotomy between two classes of spatial networks: hierarchical and homogeneous. Abstract

National audience; While Multi-label classification has been widely studied, few works considered the Multi-label streaming problem. To address this issue, we propose a new algorithm: Online Memory k-Means (OMk). OMk is based on a K-nearest neighbors' strategy which integrates two types of memories with limited size: a short-term and a long-term memory. The short-term memory is a FIFO window containing only the recent concept while the long-term memory, embedding previous concepts, relies on a tree-structure using a reservoir sampling strategy. The designed memories allow us to manage streams with concept drifts and resist to catastrophic forgetting. The experimental study compares the proposal to the current state-of-the-art algorithms using seven real-world and four artificial multi-label data streams on three multi-label metrics and evaluation time. OMk shows competitiveness and low time complexity, in both stationary and concept drift scenarios.; La classification multi-labels, dans laquelle un texte, une image ou une cyber-attaque, par exemple, peuvent être associés à plusieurs labels simultanément devient de plus en plus nécessaire dans les applications récentes. Lorsque les besoins de réactivité sont eux-mêmes cruciaux, la classification de flux de données devient un enjeu important. Nous proposons dans cet article un nouvel algorithme, Online Memory k-means (OMk), pour traiter la problématique de la classification en flux. OMk est un modèle de type k-plus-proches-voisins qui utilise deux types de mémoire, l'une court-terme basée sur une fenêtre glissante FIFO, et l'autre long-terme, basée sur un échantillonnage en réservoir. Ces deux mémoires permettent de gérer les flux de données avec des dérives de concepts et de pouvoir résister au phénomène d'oubli catastrophique. En utilisant ces structures de données simples avec des tailles de mémoire relativement limitées et en considérant l'information portée par les corrélations entre labels, notre algorithme est compétitif avec les algorithmes actuels de l'état de l'art, EaHTps et MLSAMPKNN, à la fois en qualité de prédiction et en temps de réponse. La faible complexité d'OMk et les performances obtenues nous permettent d'envisager son extension à la classification multi-labels extrême de données en flux, qui est un problème encore peu exploré.

International audience; La profusion des données en provenance des appareils mobiles et de la numérisation de nos vies, conjuguée au besoin des sociologues et des chercheurs en général d'analyser ces données ne cesse de stimuler la création d'outils d'exploration et de visualisation des données temporelles multi-dimensionnelles communément appelées traces. Nous proposons dans cet article une nouvelle approche qui associe la métaphore d'exploration à base de facettes "Elastic List" à une visualisation du nombre d'événements en "streamgraph" afin de fournir une exploration manuelle intuitive des données brutes. Le modèle de données de type facettes, et particulièrement celui lié à "Elastic List", et son adéquation avec la production de "streamgraphs" associés est ainsi mise en avant.

Abstract

International audience; La profusion des données en provenance des appareils mobiles et de la numérisation de nos vies, conjuguée au besoin des sociologues et des chercheurs en général d'analyser ces données ne cesse de stimuler la création d'outils d'exploration et de visualisation des données temporelles multi-dimensionnelles communément appelées traces. Nous proposons dans cet article une nouvelle approche qui associe la métaphore d'exploration à base de facettes "Elastic List" à une visualisation du nombre d'événements en "streamgraph" afin de fournir une exploration manuelle intuitive des données brutes. Le modèle de données de type facettes, et particulièrement celui lié à "Elastic List", et son adéquation avec la production de "streamgraphs" associés est ainsi mise en avant.
