We present a narrow linewidth frequency-doubled Cr:LiSAF laser with a 450- to 460-nm tunability and maximum repetition frequency (RF) of 63 kHz. Under a pump power of ∼900 mW, the fundamental wavelength could be tuned at the range of 883 to 1020 nm, with a maximum output power of 180 mW at 910 nm. The pulsed operation was achieved by using an acousto-optical modulator. An LBO crystal was adopted for intra-cavity frequency doubling and a maximum output power of 44.8 mW was obtained at 455 nm, indicating a slope efficiency of 11.2%. The spectral linewidth was

Two-line atomic fluorescence (TLAF) is a promising technique for two-dimensional (2D) flame thermometry. However, it suffers either from a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) when excited in the linear regime or a quenching effect and nonlinear behavior in the nonlinear regime. This work aims to develop a new TLAF modality, which can overcome the aforementioned limitations based on a specifically designed laser source that can generate long pulses ( ∼ 400 n s ) with a moderate energy of ∼ 0.9 µ J and operate at a repetition rate up to ∼ 22 k H z . A proof-of-concept experiment was conducted and linearly excited fluorescence images with an SNR up to ∼ 14 were obtained within 1 ms acquisition time by synchronizing the laser with the microchannel plate (MCP) of a 10 Hz-rate intensified camera. The SNR achieved was comparable to that of a traditional nonlinear TLAF implementation and superior to a conventional linear TLAF approach. This approach offers a novel solution for recording linearly excited indium fluorescence images and is expected to make TLAF a temporally resolved and high-precision 2D thermometry for the first time.

We report on an efficient wavelength-tunable gain-switched and gain-switched mode-locked Er3+-doped double-clad fiber laser with a linear cavity. Stable gain-switching and gain-switched mode-locking were achieved with slope efficiencies of 28.6% and 34.5% with respect to launched pump power, respectively. The gain-switched laser pulses were generated with a maximum average output power of around 110 mW, pulse width of 661.2 ns, and calculated peak power of ~16.5 W at a repetition rate of 10 kHz. At the same repetition, the gain-switched mode-locked laser pulses were generated with a maximum average output power of around 514 mW, subpulse repetition rate of ~30.7 MHz, and peak power of higher than 154 W at a repetition rate of 10 kHz when the wavelength was tuned to 2.78 μm. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first demonstration of a gain-switched self-started mode-locked fiber laser near 3 μm.

We demonstrate a laser-diode-pumped gain-switched Er3+-doped ZrF4-BaF2-LaF3-AlF3-NaF (ZBLAN) fiber laser operating in a single transverse mode at 2.8 \( \mu \)m. The laser pulses produced offer high-pulse energies, with repetition rates ranging from 50 Hz to 10 kHz and a slope efficiency of approximately 14.3% with respect to the launched pump power. The average power at the 50 Hz repetition rate is 1.33 W, giving a maximum total output pulse energy of 26.6 mJ per pump pulse. The fiber laser operates in a single mode, with beam quality factor M2 less than 1.2.

We present an all-fiber 1150 nm Yb-doped fiber laser oscillator pumped by a 976 nm laser diode. To suppress amplified spontaneous emission and avoid parasitic laser oscillation, we propose a long-length gain fiber and a high-reflectivity output fiber Bragg grating in the fiber laser oscillator. The 1150 nm band single-mode fiber laser with output power of 20.5 W is demonstrated at room temperature. The optical-to-optical conversion efficiency ranges up to 51.6% at the maximum output. The central wavelength of the fiber laser oscillator is 1150.35 nm, and its 3 dB spectral width is 0.72 nm. No evidence of amplified spontaneous emission, residual pump light, or parasitic laser oscillation were observed in the experiments. The high-power 1150 nm fiber laser oscillator can be used as a pump source in the development of a 3 μm Ho-doped fiber laser.

With both radiation effects and thermal effects taken into consideration, a multiphysics thermal model concerning high-power Yb-doped fiber lasers operated with post-irradiated active fibers is established. Radiation-related parameters, including propagation losses, refractive indexes and lifetime, are considered. And, with the temperature profile of the active fiber, temperature-dependent parameters, including absorption and emission cross-sections, refractive indexes and lifetime, are updated every loop to simulate the output parameters. Simulation results show that radiation induces great changes to the thermal profiles of the active fiber. And severe performance degradation of high-power Yb-doped fiber lasers are recorded, featuring a remarkable drop in output power and an even steeper decline in the transverse mode instability threshold, which is a predominant limitation at high radiation doses. With a deposited radiation of 100 Gy, an output decline of about 50% and a mode instability threshold drop over 85% are observed. And it’s shown that, with the exploited active fiber, it’s hardly possible for the investigated fiber laser to generate stable single-mode output at kilowatt levels with accumulated radiation doses beyond 50 Gy. At low radiation doses within 20 Gy, to maintain safe and stable single-mode operation of the laser system, longer active fibers with lower absorption coefficients are preferred despite a small rollover of the output power.

A passively mode-locked Er3+-doped ZBLAN fiber laser around 3 μm with a wide wavelength tuning range is proposed and demonstrated. The laser cavity was comprised of a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror and a blazed grating to provide a wavelength tunable feedback. The central wavelength of the mode-locked fiber laser can be continuously tuned from 2710 to 2820 nm. The pulse train had a maximum average power of higher than 203 mW, a repetition rate of 28.9 MHz and a pulse duration of 6.4 ps, yielding a peak power of exceeding 1.1 kW. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a wavelength-tunable passively mode-locked mid-infrared fiber laser at 3 μm.

We report on the recent progress on high power pulsed 2.8 μm Er3+-doped ZBLAN fiber laser through techniques of passively and actively Q-switching in our research group. In passively Q-switched operation, a diode-cladding-pumped mid-infrared passively Q-switched Er3+-doped ZBLAN fiber laser with an average output power of watt-level based on a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM) was demonstrated. Stable pulse train was produced at a slope efficient of 17.8% with respect to launched pump power. The maximum average power of 1.01 W at a repetition rate of 146.3 kHz was achieved with a corresponding pulse energy of 6.9 μJ. The maximum peak power was calculated to be 21.9 W. In actively Q-switched operation, a diode-pumped actively Q-switched Er3+-doped ZBLAN fiber laser at 2.8 μm with an optical chopper was reported. The maximum laser pulse energy of up to 130 μJ and a pulse width of 127.3 ns at a repetition rate of 10 kHz with an operating wavelength of 2.78 μm was obtained, yielding the maximum peak power of exceeding 1.1 kW.

We report a continuous wave (CW) all-solid-state Cr:LiSAF laser with a prism-controlled coupled-cavity. Broad-band tuning of 198 nm from 784 nm to 982 nm is demonstrated. The output power is always above 14 mW tuned from 825 nm to 975 nm and reaches the maximum value of 21.4 mW at 900 nm. Dual-wavelength operation is observed at the edge of the tuning range. The coupled-cavity passive loss is discussed and calculated to be 18%.

This paper describes the principle of non-chain pulsed HF laser, and analyzes the reason why the laser energy dropped severely with the accumulation of shots when the HF laser was in repetitive operation. In order to solve this problem, a molecular sieve absorption device was designed and mounted in the recirculation loop of the HF laser. Measurements of flow velocity indicated that the absorption device would just introduce a small decrease of flow velocity which would not influence the laser operation. Several types of molecular sieve (3A,4A,5A,13X) were used in absorbing experiments and the experiment results inferred that 3A molecular sieve was the most effective sorbent. All the experiments showed that the average drop of the output energy was not more than 5% after 1000 shots at 50Hz/20s. Compared to the energy drop of about 40% without the device, the absorption device could significantly improve the stability of the HF laser output energy and prolong the lifespan of laser medium gases.

We report for the first time on a closed-loop cycle narrow linewidth XeF(C-A) blue laser at a repetition rate of up to 10 Hz with each pulse energy of >1 J. A FWHM linewidth of less than 1.5 nm (minimum to 1.1 nm) with a highly stable wavelength centered at 488.3 nm was achieved by employing a polarization-independent custom-designed narrowband optical filter (NBOF) into the cavity. The pulse energy, as well as the repetition rate, to the best of our knowledge, is the highest ever reported in the narrow linewidth XeF(C-A) blue lasers at repetitively-pulsed mode.

The influence of gain fiber length on the operation regime of the fiber laser has been investigated in detail.

The investigations of the XeF laser bumped by ultraviolet radiation have been studied for more than 20 years in Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology (NINT Xi’an China). Up to now, several XeF laser devices were developed and an integrative experimental system has been set up which is comprised of a laser device, an electrical power supply, a high voltage trigger generator and a mixture gas supply device. Many key technologies were studied in detail and have been applied now. These technologies include section surface discharge, XeF2 photodissociation, synchronal trigger generating, double-sides optical pumping from opposite directions, active mixture gases supplying in real time, gases circulation, and so on. The XeF laser system operating on pulse repetition frequency (PRF) is up to 10 Hz. Two kinds of operating modes were applied. For the open gas flowing mode, the pulse energy of 3.2 J and the average power of 32 W at 10Hz is obtained. For the gases circumrotate mode, the average energy of 20 laser pulses is more than 0.5J.

A general model has been developed for the optimization of the end-pumped solid-state lasers by including the effect of beam quality of the pump, and ellipticity of pump and oscillation beam into the overlap integrals. Previous models of mode-matching between oscillation and pump beam just consider of the ellipticity of pump beam, and assume the Gaussian oscillation beam to be circle TEM00 mode. Our model of mode-matching considers not only the ellipticity of the pump and oscillation beam, but also the angle of the long axis of the pump and oscillation beam. To illustrate the utility of the present model, an end-pumped Cr:LiSAF laser pumped is considered and the experimental results fit well with the theoretical results.

SF 6 and C 2 H 6 are the working gas mixture of non-chain HF laser. In our work, we use a simple pumping circuit to study the influence of the electric field uniformity on the discharge characters. Three groups of electrodes with different designs have been manufactured, and different discharge characters have been got. We have analyzed the results qualitatively, and find that without preionization, uniform electric field is not the best choice to form a large volume discharge in strong negative gas such as SF 6 -based mixture; approximate uniform electric field may be its substitution. In such electric field the gap breakdown voltage decreases and discharge can perform much easily. The discharge channels away from the cathode surface can also diffuse together to form a large volume discharge to deposit the electric energy into the laser working gas.

A pulsed Er 3+ -doped ZBLAN fiber laser at 2.8 μm in fundamental-transverse-mode operation is reported. Stable gainswitching is achieved with the repetition rate range from 0.5 to 10 kHz. The maximum laser pulse energy of up to 4.2 μJ and pulse duration of 1.18 μs at a repetition rate of 10 kHz, yielding the maximum peak power of 3.5 W, has been obtained. The maximum slope efficiency with respect to the launched pump power at 975 nm is determined to be 12.2%. Pulse spikes occur by increasing the pump energy of larger than 75 μJ.
