Abstract More than 90% of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases develop in the presence of fibrosis or cirrhosis, making the tumor microenvironment (TME) of HCC distinctive due to the intricate interplay between cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and cancer stem cells (CSCs), which collectively regulate HCC progression. However, the mechanisms through which CSCs orchestrate the dynamics of the tumor stroma during HCC development remain elusive. Our study unveils a significant upregulation of Sema3C in fibrotic liver, HCC tissues, peripheral blood of HCC patients, as well as sorafenib-resistant tissues and cells, with its overexpression correlating with the acquisition of stemness properties in HCC. We further identify NRP1 and ITGB1 as pivotal functional receptors of Sema3C, activating downstream AKT/Gli1/c-Myc signaling pathways to bolster HCC self-renewal and tumor initiation. Additionally, HCC cells-derived Sema3C facilitated extracellular matrix (ECM) contraction and collagen deposition in vivo, while also promoting the proliferation and activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Mechanistically, Sema3C interacted with NRP1 and ITGB1 in HSCs, activating downstream NF-kB signaling, thereby stimulating the release of IL-6 and upregulating HMGCR expression, consequently enhancing cholesterol synthesis in HSCs. Furthermore, CAF-secreted TGF-β1 activates AP1 signaling to augment Sema3C expression in HCC cells, establishing a positive feedback loop that accelerates HCC progression. Notably, blockade of Sema3C effectively inhibits tumor growth and sensitizes HCC cells to sorafenib in vivo. In sum, our findings spotlight Sema3C as a novel biomarker facilitating the crosstalk between CSCs and stroma during hepatocarcinogenesis, thereby offering a promising avenue for enhancing treatment efficacy and overcoming drug resistance in HCC.

Abstract Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadly malignancies with a significant mortality rate and there are currently few therapeutic options for it. The tumor microenvironment (TME) in pancreatic cancer, distinguished by fibrosis and the existence of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), exerts a pivotal influence on both tumor advancement and resistance to therapy. Recent advancements in the field of engineered extracellular vesicles (EVs) offer novel avenues for targeted therapy in pancreatic cancer. This study aimed to develop engineered EVs for the targeted reprogramming of CAFs and modulating the TME in pancreatic cancer. EVs obtained from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) were loaded with miR-138-5p and the anti-fibrotic agent pirfenidone (PFD) and subjected to surface modification with integrin α5-targeting peptides (named IEVs-PFD/138) to reprogram CAFs and suppress their pro-tumorigenic effects. Integrin α5-targeting peptide modification enhanced the CAF-targeting ability of EVs. miR-138-5p directly inhibited the formation of the FERMT2-TGFBR1 complex, inhibiting TGF-β signaling pathway activation. In addition, miR-138-5p inhibited proline-mediated collagen synthesis by directly targeting the FERMT2-PYCR1 complex. The combination of miR-138-5p and PFD in EVs synergistically promoted CAF reprogramming and suppressed the pro-cancer effects of CAFs. Preclinical experiments using the orthotopic stroma-rich and patient-derived xenograft mouse models yielded promising results. In particular, IEVs-PFD/138 effectively reprogrammed CAFs and remodeled TME, which resulted in decreased tumor pressure, enhanced gemcitabine perfusion, tumor hypoxia amelioration, and greater sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapy. Thus, the strategy developed in this study can improve chemotherapy outcomes. Utilizing IEVs-PFD/138 as a targeted therapeutic agent to modulate CAFs and the TME represents a promising therapeutic approach for pancreatic cancer.

Abstract Proteins are the keystone for the execution of various life activities, and the maintenance of protein normalization is crucial for organisms. Ubiquitination, as a post-transcriptional modification, is widely present in organisms, and it relies on the sophisticated ubiquitin-proteasome (UPS) system that controls protein quality and modulates protein lifespan. Deubiquitinases (DUBs) counteract ubiquitination and are essential for the maintenance of homeostasis. Ubiquitin specific peptidase 3 (USP3) is a member of the DUBs that has received increasing attention in recent years. USP3 is a novel chromatin modifier that tightly regulates the DNA damage response (DDR) and maintains genome integrity. Meanwhile, USP3 acts as a key regulator of inflammatory vesicles and sustains the normal operation of the innate immune system. In addition, USP3 is aberrantly expressed in a wide range of cancers, such as gastric cancer, glioblastoma and neuroblastoma, implicating that USP3 could be an effective target for targeted therapies. In this review, we retrace all the current researches of USP3, describe the structure of USP3, elucidate its functions in DNA damage, immune and inflammatory responses and the cell cycle, and summarize the important role of USP3 in multiple cancers and diseases.

This work aimed to investigate the inactivation mechanism of lauroyl arginate ethyl (LAE) against Listeria monocytogenes. The antibacterial activity of LAE against L. monocytogenes was evaluated by measuring the minimum antibacterial concentration (MIC). Then, the antibacterial mechanism of LAE against L. monocytogenes was investigated by measuring the cell morphology, cell membrane integrity, intracellular ATP level, cell membrane potential, cell surface hydrophobicity, and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level. The results showed that LAE could effectively inhibit the growth of L. monocytogenes with a MIC value of 10 μg/mL. To investigate the compression-shear behavior of a new circumferential joint based on the sleeve-straight bolt combination type connection of large-diameter shield tunnels, a series of full-scale joint experiments was carried out. In the process of the experiment, more attention was paid to the specimen displacement, bolt stress and joint damage mode. On the basis of these experiment phenomena, this study discussed the compression-shear bearing process of the new connector, analyzed the damage mode of the joint structure, and finally evaluated the performance of the new connector. It is found that the bearing process of the joint can be divided into four stages: the transitional stage for overcoming the friction of the concrete, the sleeve bearing stage for the sleeve bearing shear loads alone, the combined bearing stage for bearing shear loads by the connector system, and the structural damage stage for structural instability and damage. Generally speaking, affected by connector position and hand hole, the positive compression-shear stiffness of the joint is less than the negative compression-shear stiffness, and the positive shear strength of the joint is greater than the negative shear strength. The increase of longitudinal axial force will improve the compression-shear performance of the joint. The relationship between longitudinal axial force and joint stiffness is a logarithmic function. The use of new type of connector can effectively improve the compression-shear stiffness of joints under low shear loads, but the application of straight bolts will lose part of the strength performance.

A generalized reliability model comprising the objective, constraint, and judgment functions is established for the reliability index approach (RIA), taking parameters’ properties of engineering practice and negative reliability index into consideration. Based on this, the reliability-based design (RBD) problem with multiple design variables is translated into the solution to the nonlinear equations, and a simplified method consisting of a simple variant of the Newton iteration method and the finite difference method (FDM) is proposed. Numerical examples are presented to verify the efficiency of the proposed reliability approach and to determine the incremental step size for FDM. RBD of a simply supported beam is illustrated and the variabilities of design variables are investigated considering the uncertainties in the manufacturing process and practical operations. Results reveal that the variations of the design variables should not be ignored. Moreover, analysis results show that the design value might not intuitively increase with the increase of its coefficient of variation (CoV), and it might not increase with the increasing reliability requirement for problems involving multiple variables. The reasons for this phenomenon are very complicated, and it is a systematic problem. One should be aware of this phenomenon, and specific analysis is required for specific problems.

Abstract Background This study aimed to investigate the neuroanatomical subtypes among early-onset schizophrenia (EOS) patients by exploring the association between structural alterations and molecular mechanisms using a combined analysis of morphometric similarity network (MSN) changes and specific transcriptional expression patterns. Methods We recruited 206 subjects aged 7 to 17 years, including 100 EOS patients and 106 healthy controls (HC). Heterogeneity through discriminant analysis (HYDRA) was used to identify the EOS subtypes within the MSN strength. The differences in morphometric similarity between each EOS subtype and HC were compared. Furthermore, we examined the link between morphometric changes and brain-wide gene expression in different EOS subtypes using partial least squares regression (PLS) weight mapping, evaluated genetic commonalities with psychiatric disorders, identified functional enrichments of PLS-weighted genes, and assessed cellular transcriptional signatures. Results Two distinct MSN-based EOS subtypes were identified, each exhibiting different abnormal MSN strength and cognitive functions compared to HC. The PLS1 score mapping demonstrated anterior–posterior gradients of gene expression in EOS1, whereas inverse distributions were observed in EOS2 cohorts. In order to improve the current situation of relying on empirical formulas in the current research on goestress fields, a finite element inversion and regression calculation method of goestresss is proposed based on the geological conditions of Hancheng Block. First, a more accurate three-dimensional geological model is established according to the geological situation of Hancheng Block; the three-dimensional finite element regression analysis method is used to fit the measured data, and finally the distribution law of the goestress field in the study area is obtained. The research results show that the three-dimensional goestress of the coal seam is in descending order: vertical stress, horizontal maximum principal stress, and horizontal minimum principal stress; the overall stress difference of the coal seam is between 2 MPa and 4 MPa, and there is a larger stress in the northwest; the overall stress direction trend of the coal seam is 45 degrees north to east; the error size does not exceed 20%, which meets the actual requirements of the project.

Determining the responses of non-photosynthetic vegetation (NPV) and photosynthetic vegetation (PV) communities to climate change is crucial in illustrating the sensitivity and sustainability of these ecosystems. In this study, we evaluated the accuracy of inverting NPV and PV using Landsat imagery with random forest (RF), backpropagation neural network (BPNN), and fully connected neural network (FCNN) models. Additionally, we inverted MODIS NPV and PV time-series data using spectral unmixing. Based on this, we analyzed the responses of NPV and PV to precipitation and drought across different ecological regions. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) In NPV remote sensing inversion, the softmax activation function demonstrates greater advantages over the ReLU activation function. Specifically, the use of the softmax function results in an approximate increase of 0.35 in the R2 value. (2) Compared with a five-layer FCNN with 128 neurons and a three-layer BPNN with 12 neurons, a random forest model with over 50 trees and 5 leaf nodes provides better inversion results for NPV and PV (R2_RF-NPV = 0.843, R2_RF-PV = 0.861). (3) Long-term drought or heavy rainfall events can affect the utilization of precipitation by NPV and PV. There is a high correlation between extreme precipitation events following prolonged drought and an increase in PV coverage. (4) Under long-term drought conditions, the vegetation in the study area responded to precipitation during the last winter and growing season. This study provides an illustration of the response of semi-arid ecosystems to drought and wetting events, thereby offering a data basis for the effect evaluation of afforestation projects.

This review targets the application of the Verbal Fluency Task (VFT) in conjunction with functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) for diagnosing psychiatric disorders, specifically in the contexts of China and Japan. These two countries are at the forefront of integrating fNIRS with VFT in clinical psychiatry, often employing this combination as a complementary tool alongside traditional psychiatric examinations. Our study aims to synthesize research findings on the hemodynamic responses elicited by VFT task in clinical settings of the two countries, analyzing variations in task design (phonological versus semantic), stimulus modality (auditory versus visual), and the impact of language typology. The focus on China and Japan is crucial, as it provides insights into the unique applications and adaptations of VFT in these linguistically and culturally distinct environments. By exploring these specific cases, our review underscores the importance of tailoring VFT to fit the linguistic and cultural context, thereby enhancing its validity and utility in cross-cultural psychiatric assessments.

Early-onset Schizophrenia (EOS) is a profoundly progressive psychiatric disorder characterized by both positive and negative symptoms, whose pathogenesis is influenced by genes, environment and brain structure development. In this study, the MIND (Morphometric Inverse Divergence) network was employed to explore the relationship between morphological similarity and specific transcriptional expression patterns in EOS patients. This study involved a cohort of 187 participants aged between 7 and 17 years, consisting of 97 EOS patients and 90 healthy controls (HC). Multiple morphological features were used to construct the MIND network for all participants. Furthermore, we explored the associations between MIND network and brain-wide gene expression in EOS patients through partial least squares (PLS) regression, shared genetic predispositions with other psychiatric disorders, functional enrichment of PLS weighted genes, as well as transcriptional signature assessment of cell types, cortical layers, and developmental stages. The MIND showed similarity differences in the orbitofrontal cortex, pericalcarine cortex, lingual gyrus, and multiple networks in EOS patients compared to HC. Moreover, our exploration revealed a significant overlap of PLS2 weighted genes linking to EOS-related MIND differences and the dysregulated genes reported in other psychiatric diseases. Interestingly, genes correlated with MIND changes (PLS2-) exhibited a significant enrichment not only in metabolism-related pathways, but also in specific astrocytes, cortical layers (specifically layer I and III), and posterior developmental stages (late infancy to young adulthood stages). However, PLS2+ genes were primarily enriched in synapses signaling-related pathways and early developmental stages (from early-mid fetal to neonatal early infancy) but not in special cell types or layers. These findings provide a novel perspective on the intricate relationship between macroscopic morphometric structural abnormalities and microscopic transcriptional patterns during the onset and progression of EOS.

Collaboration is a critical skill in everyday life. It has been suggested that collaborative performance may be influenced by social factors such as interpersonal distance, which is defined as the perceived psychological distance between individuals. Previous literature has reported that close interpersonal distance may promote the level of self-other integration between interacting members, and in turn, enhance collaborative performance. These studies mainly focused on interdependent collaboration, which requires high levels of shared representations and self-other integration. However, little is known about the effect of interpersonal distance on independent collaboration (e.g., the joint Simon task), in which individuals perform the task independently while the final outcome is determined by the parties. To address this issue, we simultaneously measured the frontal activations of ninety-four pairs of participants using a functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS)-based hyperscanning technique while they performed a joint Simon task. Behavioral results showed that the Joint Simon Effect (JSE), defined as the RT difference between incongruent and congruent conditions indicating the level of self-other integration between collaborators, was larger in the friend group than in the stranger group. Consistently, the inter-brain neural synchronization (INS) across the dorsolateral and medial parts of the prefrontal cortex was also stronger in the friend group. In addition, INS in the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex negatively predicted JSE only in the friend group. These results suggest that close interpersonal distance may enhance the shared mental representation among collaborators, which in turn influences their collaborative performance.

Abstract The oxygen evolution reactions in acid play an important role in multiple energy storage devices. The practical promising Ru-Ir based catalysts need both the stable high oxidation state of the Ru centers and the high stability of these Ru species. Here, we report stable and oxidative charged Ru in two-dimensional ruthenium-iridium oxide enhances the activity. The Ru0.5Ir0.5O2 catalyst shows high activity in acid with a low overpotential of 151 mV at 10 mA cm−2, a high turnover frequency of 6.84 s−1 at 1.44 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode and good stability (618.3 h operation). Ru0.5Ir0.5O2 catalysts can form more Ru active sites with high oxidation states at lower applied voltages after Ir incorporation, which is confirmed by the pulse voltage induced current method. Also, The X-ray absorption spectroscopy data shows that the Ru-O-Ir local structure in two-dimensional Ru0.5Ir0.5O2 solid solution improved the stability of these Ru centers.

Ready-to-eat meat (RTE) products are potential to contaminate bacteria, yeasts and molds during the processing, transport, storage, and sale periods, causing food spoilage and foodborne diseases. As a new non-thermal sterilization technology, atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) is effective and green and has shown great potential in food sterilization and preservation. This paper summarizes the inactivation effects of ACP on microorganisms as well as the factors influencing the antimicrobial efficacy of ACP. The recent progress in the applications of ACP in the sterilization and preservation of RTE meat products is also reviewed in this article. Meanwhile, the effects of ACP treatments on the lipids, proteins, color parameter and sensory quality parameters of RTE meat products are also well discussed. This paper provides references for the potential application of ACP technology in the sterilization and preservation of RTE meat products.

To achieve the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality under the backgrounds of poor resource endowments, weak theoretical basis and other factors, the development of the coalbed methane industry of China faces many bottlenecks and challenges. This paper systematically analyzes the coalbed methane resources, key technologies and progress, exploration effect and production performance in China and abroad. The main problems are summarized as low exploration degree, low technical adaptability, low return on investment and small development scale. This study suggests that the coalbed methane industry in China should follow the “two-step” (short-term and long-term) development strategy. The short-term action before 2030, can be divided into two stages: (1) From the present to 2025, to achieve new breakthroughs in theory and technology, and accomplish the target of annual production of 10 billion cubic meters; (2) From 2025 to 2030, to form the technologies suitable for most geological conditions, further expand the industry scale, and achieve an annual output of 30 billion cubic meters, improving the proportion of coalbed methane in the total natural gas production. The long-term action after 2030 is to gradually realize an annual production of 100 billion cubic meters. The strategic countermeasure to achieve the above goals is to adhere to “technology+management dual wheel drive”, realize the synchronous progress of technology and management, and promote the high-quality development of the coalbed methane industry. Technically, the efforts will focus on fine and effective development of coalbed methane in the medium to shallow layers of mature fields, effective development of coalbed methane in new fields, extensive and beneficial development of deep coalbed methane, three-dimensional comingled development of coalbed methane, applying new technologies such as coalbed methane displacement by carbon dioxide, microwave heating and stimulation technology, ultrasonic stimulation, high-temperature heat injection stimulation, rock breaking by high-energy laser. In terms of management, the efforts will focus on coordinative innovation of resource, technology, talent, policy and investment, with technological innovation as the core, to realize an all-round and integrated management and promote the development of coalbed methane industry at a high level.

Abstract Background Triterpenoids have shown a wide range of biological activities including antitumor and antiviral effects. Typically, triterpenes are synthesized through the mevalonate pathway and are extracted from natural plants and fungi. In this work, triterpenoids, ganoderic acids (GAs) were discovered to be produced via biotransformation of a diterpene, 15,16-dihydrotanshinone I (DHT) in the liquid cultured Ganoderma sessile mycelium. Results Firstly, the biotransformation products, two rare GAs were isolated and purified by column chromatography, and characterized using HR-ESI-MS spectrometry and NMR spectrometry. The two compounds were Lanosta-7,9(11),24-trien-15α,22,β-diacetoxy-3β-hydroxy-26-oic acid (LTHA) and Lanosta-7,9(11),24-trien-15α,22,β-diacetoxy-3β-carbonyl-26-oic acid (LTCA). Then, transcriptome and proteome technologies were employed to measure the expression of mRNA and protein, which further confirmed that triterpenoid GAs could be transformed from exogenous diterpenoid DHT. At the molecular level, we proposed a hypothesis of the mechanism by which DHT converted to GAs in G. sessile mycelium, and the possible genes involved in biotransformation were verified by RT-qPCR. Conclusions Two rare GAs were obtained and characterized. A biosynthetic pathway of GAs from DHT was proposed. Although the synthetic route was not confirmed, this study provided important insights into omics resources and candidate genes for studying the biotransformation of diterpenes into triterpenes.

Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with high mortality and poor prognoses worldwide. Many studies have reported that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are related to the progression and prognosis of HCC. However, the functions of downregulated liver-elevated (LE) lncRNAs in HCC remain elusive. Here we report the roles and mechanisms of downregulated LE LINC02428 in HCC. Downregulated LE lncRNAs played significant roles in HCC genesis and development. LINC02428 was upregulated in liver tissues compared with other normal tissues and showed low expression in HCC. The low expression of LINC02428 was attributed to poor HCC prognosis. Overexpressed LINC02428 suppressed the proliferation and metastasis of HCC in vitro and in vivo. LINC02428 was predominantly located in the cytoplasm and bound to insulin-like growth factor-2 mRNA-binding protein 1 (IGF2BP1) to prevent it from binding to lysine demethylase 5B (KDM5B) mRNA, which decreased the stability of KDM5B mRNA. KDM5B was found to preferentially bind to the promoter region of IGF2BP1 to upregulate its transcription. Therefore, LINC02428 interrupts the KDM5B/IGF2BP1 positive feedback loops to inhibit HCC progression. The KDM5B/IGF2BP1 positive feedback loop is involved in tumorigenesis and progression of HCC.

IntroductionSepsis is a vitally serious disease leading to high mortality. Nucleated red blood cells (NRBCs) are present in some noninfectious diseases, but the relationship between NRBCs and sepsis in children remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical characteristics and outcomes of sepsis with positive NRBCs and negative NRBCs in children, and to further explore whether the count of NRBCs has a relationship with the severity of sepsis.MethodsWe enrolled children with sepsis who were admitted to the Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between January 2020 and December 2022. The children’s clinical data, laboratory data and outcomes were recorded and analyzed.ResultsOne hundred and fifteen children met the inclusion criteria in our study. Compared to negative NRBCs patients, the C-reactive protein, alanine transaminase, urea nitrogen values, mortality rate and length of hospitalization were found to be significantly increased, while platelet counts, and hemoglobin were significantly decreased in sepsis patients with positive NRBC (P < 0.05). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves analysis showed that the optimal cutoff value of the NRBC count in the diagnosis of severe sepsis was 3, with a sensitivity of 87.5% and specificity of 94.9%. The area under the ROC curve was 0.877 (95% CI: 0.798-0.957).DiscussionThese findings demonstrated that NRBC count has the potential to be a biomarker for the diagnosis of sepsis in children, especially an NRBC count greater than 3, which may predict the severity and poor prognosis in children suffering from sepsis.

The readily available silica gel was converted into an amino functionalized silica by refluxing with 3-aminopropylthiethoxy silane. The amino functionalized silica was transformed into the respective Schiff-based ligand by the incorporation of [2,2′-bithiophene]-5,5′-dicarbaldehyde. The Pd(0) nanocatalyst on the silica gel support was developed by further processing the Schiff-based ligand with ammonium tetrachloropalladate and hydrazine. The Schiff-based Pd(0) nanocatalyst was extensively characterized using a range of spectroscopic techniques, including Raman, SEM, EDX, TEM, XRD, ICP, and XPS. Raman spectroscopy was used to confirm that the organic moieties have been successfully incorporated, and XPS, XRD, and EDX analyses supported the existence of palladium species on the silica surface. According to the TEM analysis, Pd-nanocomplex with a size distribution of 5.3 ± 0.6 nm was found to be evenly distributed on the silica surface. Palladium was incorporated into the silica surface at a rate of 1.9 w%, according to ICP and EDX analysis. The Mizoroki-Heck and Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions were successfully catalyzed by the Schiff-based Pd(0) catalyst using a diverse range of aryl halides, olefines, and organoboronic acids. High yields were achieved in each example in the case for the coupling products. Despite being recovered from the reaction medium and used multiple times, the catalyst still maintained the majority of its catalytic activity. Furthermore, this Schiff-based Pd(0) catalyst was used to produce biologically active molecules of Ozagrel, an antiplatelet agent and fungicidal Boscalid with high yield.

Abstract The reasonable power quality assessment model of microgrid is significant to the planning and management for a microgrid. In the power quality assessment, how to extract and integrate the implicative information in different evaluation indicators, to realize the comprehensive power quality assessment, are needs to be further studied. To solve the above problems, a microgrid power quality assessment model based on multivariate Gaussian distribution and local sensitivity analysis is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the probability density function is used to integrate the individual assessment indicators, and the correlation between the assessment indicators is reflected by the covariance matrix, and then the above characteristics of evaluation indicators are quantized to be as the indicator weights by using the local sensitivity. Comparing with the traditional power quality assessment method, the proposed evaluation model is more suitable for microgrid. Finally, an example is developed to verify that the overall situation of microgrid power quality can be reasonably reflected by the proposed evaluation model.

Gas turbine vibration data may exhibit considerable differences under time-varying conditions, which poses challenges for neural network anomaly detection. We first propose a framework for a gas turbine vibration frequency spectra process under time-varying operation conditions, assisting neural networks’ ability to capture weak information. The framework involves scaling spectra for aligning all frequency components related to rotational speed and normalizing frequency amplitude in a self-adaptive way. Degressive beta variational autoencoder is employed for learning spectra characteristics and anomaly detection, while a multi-category anomaly index is proposed to accommodate various operating conditions. Finally, a dataset of blade Foreign Object Damage (FOD) fault occurring under time-varying operating conditions was used to validate the framework and anomaly detection. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively reduce the spectra differences under time-varying conditions, and also detect FOD fault during operation, which are challenging to identify using conventional methods.

To solve the current energy and environmental dilemma, hydrogen energy is considered to be the best clean energy source to replace traditional fossil fuels. Water electrolysis as the main technology for hydrogen production has been affected by two half-reactions, making it difficult to improve the yield. To solve this problem, the development of inexpensive and efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts is the focus of current research. CuCo2S4/NF(Ni foam) nanowires are synthesized using a mild hydrothermal process and were later placed in a plasma reactor. Application of the voltage triggers a chemical reaction between the microdischarge wires and the sample. This leads to a change in the physical morphology of the catalyst and an improvement in its catalytic performance. The morphological characterization results show that the catalyst modification generates a distinct flower-like nanowire structure, which helps in the solid attachment of the catalyst to the nickel foam surface. The plasma-modified CuCo2S4/Ni foam (PA@CuCo2S4/NF) exhibits low overpotentials of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline solutions. Additionally, the Tafel slopes of the HER and OER are 85.9 mVdec−1 and 142.7 mVdec−1, respectively, indicating optimal reaction kinetics. A cell voltage of only 1.55 V is required to provide a 10 mA cm−2 current during water splitting. This study validates the feasibility of using plasma technology to create high-performance electrocatalysts.

BackgroundIncreasing evidence elucidated N6-methyladenosine (m6A) dysregulation participated in regulating RNA maturation, stability, and translation. This study aimed to demystify the crosstalk between m6A regulators and the immune microenvironment, providing a potential therapeutic target for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).MethodsTotals of 371 HCC and 50 normal patients were included in this study. GSE121248 and GSE40367 datasets were used to validate the expression of HNRNPC. The R package “ConsensusClusterPlus” was performed to screen consensus clustering types based on the expression of m6A regulators in HCC. The R package “pheatmap”, “immunedeconv”, “survival”, “survminer” and “RMS” were applied to investigate the expression, immunity, overall survival, and clinical application in different clusters and expression groups. Comprehensive analysis of HNRNPC in pan-cancer was conducted by TIMER2 database. Besides, HNRNPC mRNA and protein expression were verified by qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry analysis.ResultsMost of m6A regulators were over-expressed excerpt for ZC3H13 in HCC. Three independent clusters were screened based on m6A regulators expression, and the cluster 2 had a favorable prognosis in HCC. Then, the cluster 2 was positively expression in macrophage, hematopoietic stem cell, endothelial cell, and stroma score, while negatively in T cell CD4+ memory and mast cell. We identified HNRNPC was an independent prognostic factor in HCC, and nomogram performed superior application value for clinical decision making. Moreover, PD-L1 was significantly up-regulated in HCC tissues, cluster 1, and cluster 3, and we found PD-L1 expression was positively correlated with HNRNPC. Patients with HCC in high-expression groups was associated with tumor-promoting cells. Besides, HNRNPC was correlated with prognosis, TMB, and immune checkpoints in cancers. Particularly, the experiments confirmed that HNRNPC was positively expression in HCC cells and tissues.ConclusionThe m6A regulators play irreplaceable roles in prognosis and immune infiltration in HCC, and the relationship of HNRNPC and PD-L1 possesses a promising direction for therapeutic targets of immunotherapy response. Exploration of m6A regulators pattern could be build the prognostic stratification of individual patients and move toward to personalized treatment.

This paper proposes a novel PSD-based algorithm to overcome limitations found in drive-by bridge health monitoring through the application of a transfer function to extract the contact point response from axle accelerations, the removal of the road irregularities by subtracting responses at different speeds in the spatial domain, and the estimation of damage by comparison of the PSD to a reference database. A strength of the algorithm lies in the use of a moving constant force to create the database, greatly simplifying computational and modelling requirements. Theoretical testing is conducted driving a quarter-car over a 15 m simply supported bridge in 1800 damage scenarios defined by a single crack randomly located across the span. The accuracy in locating and quantifying the crack remains unaffected overall when adding 5% Gaussian noise to the accelerations. The highly accurate quantification demonstrates the success in removing vehicular and road components from the axle accelerations.

The design of an efficient and green dye degradation technology is of great significance to mitigate water pollution as well as ecological damage. Fe3O4/CuO/ZnO/RGO was prepared by solvothermal synthesis and homogeneous precipitation. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM) were used to characterize the samples, to explore the morphology and structural composition of the composites. To enhance the degradation efficiency, a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD)–Fe3O4/CuO/ZnO/RGO co-catalytic system was created based on the DBD plasma technology. Response surface methodology analysis results demonstrate that the degradation effect of DBD–Fe3O4/CuO/ZnO/RGO is optimal and the decolorization rate is 95.06 % when the solution pH is 3, conductivity is 0.5 mS/cm, the input voltage is 90 V, and Fe3O4/CuO/ZnO/RGO concentration is 0.18 g/L. Therefore, this study offers a novel method for dye degradation and confirms the viability of a DBD–Fe3O4/CuO/ZnO/RGO synergistic catalytic system.

Distributed generation (DG) needs to be connected to the microgrid (MG) through an inverter. The power quality of MG is impacted due to the characteristics of DGs and access to many types of loads. Traditionally, robust control or secondary regulation is used in MG inverters to solve power quality problems. However, there are issues in which the controller order is too high or the design is too complicated. A novel adaptive control strategy based on Narendra theory for voltage source inverter in MGs is proposed in this paper to solve the above problems. This strategy improves the control performance by designing an adaptive law. The MG inverter can adjust the parameters adaptively to change the output voltage quality under complex working conditions. The example shows that the inverter with the proposed adaptive control strategy can maintain good voltage control performance under complex conditions of MG, thus ensure the power quality in the MG.

BackgroundThe Metabolic score of insulin resistance (METS-IR) has recently been accepted as a reliable alternative to insulin resistance (IR), which was demonstrated to be consistent with the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp. Few pieces of research have focused on the relationship between METS-IR and diabetes in Chinese. The purpose of this research was to explore the effect of METS-IR on new-onset diabetes in a large multicenter Chinese study.MethodsAt the baseline of this retrospective longitudinal research, 116855 participators were included in the Chinese cohort study administered from 2010 to 2016. The subjects were stratified by quartiles of METS-IR. To assess the effect of METS-IR on incident diabetes, the Cox regression model was constructed in this study. Stratification analysis and interaction tests were applied to detect the potential effect of METS-IR and incident diabetes among multiple subgroups. To verify whether there was a dose-response relationship between METS-IR and diabetes, a smooth curve fitting was performed. In addition, to further determine the performance of METS -IR in predicting incident diabetes, the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was conducted.ResultsThe average age of the research participators was 44.08 ± 12.93 years, and 62868 (53.8%) were men. METS-IR were significant relationship with new-onset diabetes after adjusting for possible variables (Hazard ratio [HR]: 1.077; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.073-1.082, P < 0.0001), the onset risk for diabetes in Quartile 4 group was 6.261-fold higher than those in Quartile 1 group. Moreover, stratified analyses and interaction tests showed that interaction was detected in the subgroup of age, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and fasting plasma glucose, there was no significant interaction between males and females. Furthermore, a dose-response correlation was detected between METS-IR and incident diabetes, the nonlinear relationship was revealed and the inflection point of METS-IR was calculated to be 44.43. When METS-IR≥44.43, compared with METS-IR < 44.43, the trend was gradually saturated, with log-likelihood ratio test P < 0.001. Additionally, the area under receiver operating characteristic of the METS-IR in predicting incident diabetes was 0.729, 0.718, and 0.720 at 3, 4, and 5 years, respectively.ConclusionsMETS-IR was correlated with incident diabetes significantly, and showed a nonlinear relationship. This study also found that METS-IR had good discrimination of diabetes.

Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) is an inflammatory molecule that is closely related to the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of cancer. In order to explore the role of PTX3 in the occurrence and development of esophageal carcinoma (ESCA), we modified the PTX3 gene in ESCA cell lines to obtain the model of gene knockout and overexpression and studied cell proliferation, cycle, apoptosis, migration ability, energy metabolism, and sensitivity to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. We observed the increase in cell proliferation, cycle, apoptosis, migration ability, and sensitivity to chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the PTX3 knockout model, while in the PTX3 overexpression model, these phenomena were significantly reduced. Knockout of the PTX3 also resulted in decreased cell glycolysis and increased oxidative phosphorylation, which is consistent with other findings that PTX3 affects the tumorigenic ability of cells and their sensitivity to docetaxel. In ESCA, SOX9 directly regulates the expression of PTX3, while human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-system-related genes are significantly up-regulated when lacking PTX3. These results indicate that SOX9 may play a crucial role in regulating PTX3 and affecting the HLA system in ESCA.

Eicosanoids are crucial downstream signals in the insect immune responses. Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) catalyzes phospholipids, the initial step in eicosanoid biosynthesis. In mammals, the biological roles of Ca2+-independent Phospholipase A2 (iPLA2) have been extensively studied; however, only a few studies have attempted to explore iPLA2 functions in insects. In this study, we identified two iPLA2 genes (designated as BmiPLA2A and BmiPLA2B) in the silkworm, Bombyx mori. BmiPLA2A had a 2427 base pair (bp) open reading frame (ORF) that coded for a protein with 808 amino acids. In contrast, BmiPLA2B had a 1731 bp ORF that coded for a protein with 576 amino acids. Domain analysis revealed that BmiPLA2A had six ankyrin repeat domains, but BmiPLA2B lacks these domains. BmiPLA2A and BmiPLA2B were transcribed widely in various tissues and developmental stages with different expression patterns. The administration of 20-hydroxyecdysone increased their expression levels in the epidermis and hemocytes. Furthermore, challenged with virus, fungus, Gram-negative bacteria, and Gram-positive bacteria induced the expression of BmiPLA2A and BmiPLA2B with variable degrees along with different time points. Our findings imply that BmiPLA2A and BmiPLA2B may have important biological roles in the development and innate immunity of B. mori.

Thresholds are commonly used in condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of gas turbine engines as they are the criteria for health status discrimination. We discover that most thresholds should be varying according to gas turbine working condition, but many traditional fixed threshold designs didn’t consider this and therefore can potentially be replaced with dynamic ones for higher monitoring precision. In this paper, we propose an objective function that can be applied in any neural network model to learn to output a set of parameters for a distribution based on the maximum likelihood theory, and a matching dynamic threshold determination method for health state discrimination in example of a residual-based monitoring approach. The proposed methods are examined progressively with simulated data and finally an industrial gas turbine failure case. Results show that 1) the proposed objective function can learn the parameters of the distribution well; 2) the dynamic thresholds can effectively reduce the false-positive and false-negative rates when there is a varying noise comparing to fixed thresholds.

BackgroundHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common cancer and the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, seriously affecting human community health and care. Emerging evidence has shown that aberrant glycosylation is associated with tumor progression and metastasis. However, the role of glycosylation-related genes in HCC has notbeen reported.MethodsWeighted gene coexpression network analysis and non-negative matrix factorization analysis were applied to identify functional modules and molecularm subtypes in HCC. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator Cox regression was used to construct the glycosylation-related signature. The independent prognostic value of the risk model was confirmed and validated by systematic techniques, including principal component analysis, T-distributed random neighbor embedding analysis, Kaplan–Meier survival analysis, the ROC curve, multivariate Cox regression, the nomogram, and the calibration curve. The single-sample gene set enrichment analysis, gene set variation analysis, Gene Ontology, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses were evaluated by the immune microenvironment and potential biological processes. The quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry analysis were used to verify the expression of five genes.ResultsWe identified the glycosylation-related genes with bioinformatics analysis to construct and validate a five-gene signature for the prognosis of HCC patients. Patients with HCC in the high-risk group had a worse prognosis. The risk score could be an independent factor and was associated with clinical features, such as the grade and stage. The nomogram exhibited an accurate score that included the risk score and clinical parameters. The infiltration levels of antitumor cells were upregulated in the low-risk group, including B_cells, Mast_cells, neutrophils, NK_cells, and T_helper_cells. Moreover, glycosylation was more sensitive to immunotherapy, and may play a critical role in the metabolic processes of HCC, such as bile acid metabolism and fatty acid metabolism. In addition, the five-gene messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein expression were overexpressed in HCC cells and tissues.ConclusionsThe glycosylation-related signature is effective for prognostic recognition, immune efficacy evaluation, and substance metabolism in HCC, providing a novel insight for therapeutic target prediction and clinical decision-making.

The development of efficient transition-metal catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction is significant to meeting global energy demands. In this study, to realize a high-performance electrocatalyst, we synthesize an Fe-doped Ni3S2 nanosheet material in situ on 3D structured nickel foam via the hydrothermal sulfide method, and then modify it by the dielectric barrier discharge plasma technique. Combining Fe atom doping and plasma modification increases the electrochemical surface area, provides an abundance of active sites, optimizes the electronic structure, and accelerates the reaction kinetics, thereby improving catalytic activity. As a result, the PA@Fe1/4-Ni3S2/NF catalyst exhibits excellent hydrogen evolution reaction activity, only requires ultra-low overpotentials to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm−2, and exhibits excellent durability. This study proposes a novel method for rationally designing non-noble metal electrocatalysts.

The objective of this study was to evaluate whether combinations of sulbactam, meropenem, and polymyxin-B could reduce or close the gap of mutant selection window (MSW) of individual antibiotics against Acinetobacter baumannii harboring OXA-23. MICs of three antimicrobials used alone and in combination (meropenem/polymyxin-B or meropenem/polymyxin-B/sulbactam) were obtained in 11 clinical isolates and mutant prevention concentrations were determined in 4 of the 11 isolates. All isolates were resistant to meropenem or polymyxin-B. Combining meropenem and polymyxin-B with or without sulbactam resulted in synergistic bactericidal activities. Pharmacokinetic (PK) simulations of drug concentrations in the blood and epithelial lining fluid coupled with pharmacodynamic (PD) evaluations revealed that the fractions of time over the 24-h in terms of free drug concentration within the MSW (fTMSW) and above the MPC (fT>MPC) were optimized by combination therapy. The resultant clinical regimens of meropenem, polymyxin-B, and sulbactam evaluated in the PK-PD analysis were 2 g q8h, 2.5 mg/kg loading dose followed by 1.5 mg/kg q12h, and 3 g q8h, respectively, in patients with normal renal function. Subsequent corresponding equivalent exposure regimens would depend on the extent of renal failure. The overall results indicate that combination antibiotics consisting of sulbactam/meropenem/polymyxin-B can confer potential efficacy against A. baumannii harboring OXA-23, and reduce the opportunity for bacteria to develop further resistance. This study provides a framework for pharmacodynamic evaluation of drug-resistant mutant suppression in an antimicrobial co-administration setting. The results thereby lay the groundwork for additional studies and future clinical confirmation is warranted.

Taking advantages of high-resolution, natural color restoration, and high imaging speed, optical sectioning structured illumination microscopy (OS-SIM) plays an important role in geology, biology, and material science. However, when encountering chromatic aberration or dealing with samples with semitransparent surface, the HSV (Hue, Saturation, and Value) decoding algorithm suffers intensity deviation and fading color. In this paper, we propose a focus level correlation algorithm for 3D color image reconstruction in OS-SIM. Simulations and experiments demonstrate that the algorithm can restore color of sample authentically, and improve the image processing speed by about 45%. This new algorithm successfully improves the results and the speed of optical sectioning reconstruction, expanding the application of OS-SIM.

The diversity of cognitive task paradigms using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and the lack of theoretical explanations for these functional imaging atlases have greatly hindered the application of fNIRS in psychiatry. The fNIRS brain imaging based on multiple cognitive tasks could generally reflect the working patterns and neurovascular coupling changes in the prefrontal working memory network. By alternating the stimulation patterns of resting and task states, six typical symptom-related functional brain imaging waveforms related to psychiatric disorders are identified and three joint networks of the prefrontal working memory, namely, the attentional working memory primary coordination network, the perceptual content working memory secondary network, and the emotional-behavioral working memory executive network, are initially represented. This is the first attempt to characterize the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral regulation of the prefrontal working memory network using fNIRS, which may promote the application of fNIRS in clinical settings.

Abstract Positively charged Pt can work as the active center for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) but the corresponding design of state‐of‐the‐art electrocatalysts at high current densities has never been realized. Here the application of positively charged Pt in an effective Fe‐PtNiPO nanoreactor for highly efficient and stable HER is demonstrated. Synchrotron radiation X‐ray absorption spectroscopy confirms the formation of internal positively charged Pt and the in situ experiments reveal the quick charge transfer in the nanoreactor. Ni‐based materials around Pt are used to tune the electronic structure and promote the water dissociation to form locally enriched H+, while a porous Fe shell can both prevent the loss of active material and allow the efficient material transport. All the beneficial compositions work together to form an effective nanoreactor for HER. As a result, the Fe‐PtNiPO nanoreactor shows a low overpotential of 19 mV to achieve 10 mA cm−2 and exhibits a high mass activity of 10.93 A mgPt−1 (at 100 mV). Most importantly, it only needs an ultra‐low overpotential of 193 mV to achieve a high current density of 1000 mA cm−2 with an excellent stability over 300 h, which represents one of the best electrocatalysts for alkaline HER and might be used for large‐scale industrial application in the future.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a recurrent chronic mental disorder with a broad profile of functional deficits including disturbed emotional processing and cognitive impairments. The goal of the current study was to further explore the underlying neural mechanism of dysfunction in patients with BD from a comprehensive perspective of both cognition and emotion. Forty-six clinical patients with BD and forty-five healthy controls performed emotion induction task and verbal fluency task (VFT), with frontal activity measured by functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Our results show distinct hemodynamic activity in the prefrontal region during emotional and cognitive processing between patients with BD and healthy controls. Patients with BD exhibit valence-dependent prefrontal cortex (PFC) hemodynamic response to emotional stimuli, with bilateral frontal hypoactivity indicating decreased positive reactivity and left frontal hyperactivity indicating increased negative reactivity. On the other hand, patients with BD showed impaired performance with bilateral frontal hypoactivity during VFT. Taken together, frontal dysfunction of cognition and emotionality in patients with BD probed by fNIRS would be a potential biomarker in clinical assessment.

Probiotics are beneficial for human health. However, they are vulnerable to adverse effects during processing, storage, and passage through the gastrointestinal tract, thus reducing their viability. The exploration of strategies for probiotic stabilization is essential for application and function. Electrospinning and electrospraying, two electrohydrodynamic techniques with simple, mild, and versatile characteristics, have recently attracted increased interest for encapsulating and immobilizing probiotics to improve their survivability under harsh conditions and promoting high-viability delivery in the gastrointestinal tract. This review begins with a more detailed classification of electrospinning and electrospraying, especially dry electrospraying and wet electrospraying. The feasibility of electrospinning and electrospraying in the construction of probiotic carriers, as well as the efficacy of various formulations on the stabilization and colonic delivery of probiotics, are then discussed. Meanwhile, the current application of electrospun and electrosprayed probiotic formulations is introduced. Finally, the existing limitations and future opportunities for electrohydrodynamic techniques in probiotic stabilization are proposed and analyzed. This work comprehensively explains how electrospinning and electrospraying are used to stabilize probiotics, which may aid in their development in probiotic therapy and nutrition.

Drought monitoring is an important scientific basis for drought impact evaluation and the selection of mitigation strategies. Since the drivers of drought vary among regions, there is no universal drought index applicable to different regions. The Shiyang River Basin, an inland river basin, located in Gansu Province, China, has a closed water cycle system. Drought is a dominant nature disaster for the sustainable development of the region. Thus, this is an ideal area to explore the suitability of drought-monitoring indices. Here, we took the Shiyang River Basin as an example, in order to explore suitable indicators for agricultural drought monitoring in inland river basins. This study assessed the twelve different widely used drought indices used for monitoring the impact of drought on crop growth, represented by net primary production (NPP). The results showed that the vegetation status-based drought indices (VCI and NVSWI) had the highest significant correlation (0.6 ≤ |R| ≤ 1, p < 0.05) on NPP, and the integrated drought indices (DSI and ISDI) had the strong significant correlation (0.4 ≤ |R| < 0.6, p < 0.1). These four indices are good indicators for agricultural drought monitoring. Studies based on these four indices showed that agricultural drought has a tendency to slow down from 1982 to 2020. This is inconsistent with the monitoring of drought indices based on the meteorological variables that show a trend of increasing drought. This is mainly due to the increased efficiency of water management and its use in inland river basins. This indicates that other water resource information, such as runoff, should be included to construct an integrated agricultural drought-monitoring indices in management intensive regions, such as in an inland river basin.

Abstract Potassium ion hybrid capacitors (PIHCs) have attracted considerable interest due to their low cost, competitive power/energy densities, and ultra‐long lifespan. However, the more sluggish insertion kinetics of battery‐type anodes than capacitor‐type cathodes in PIHCs seriously limits their practical application. Therefore, developing advanced anodes with high capacitor and suitable K+ intercalation is imperative and significant. A novel core–shell structure of NiCo oxide/NiCo oxyphosphide (NCOP) nanowires are designed and constructed in this study via efficient and facile strategy. Combining the merits of the core–shell structure and the massive active sites in the oxyphosphide layer, the as‐prepared NCOP composites manifest highly reversible capacitors and outstanding rate capability. Meanwhile, the insertion and conversion potassium storage mechanisms of the NCOP are successfully revealed through in situ X‐ray diffraction and density functional theory calculations, respectively. Furthermore, the PIHC was assembled with NCOP anode and borocarbonitride cathode, which displays a large energy density and high‐power density, along with an exceptional capacity retention of ≈90% over 10 000 cycles at 1.0 A g−1. This work provides the anion regulation strategy for modifying the transition metal oxide and constructing the advancing electrode materials for next‐generation energy storage and beyond.

Abstract Biotransformation has the advantages of low cost and environmental protection and is a preferred method for production of compounds. At present, most 2,5-dihydroxymethylfuran (DHMF) is synthesized by chemical methods. In this study, 12.008 μg/mL DHMF was produced from 9.045 μg/mL 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) with a yield of 1.33 g/g using the crude enzymes from fungus Ganoderma sessile. To elucidate the toxic potential for both compounds, cytotoxicity tests and acute toxicity were evaluated respectively. 5-HMF induced weak cytotoxicity in HCT-8, A549 and SGC-7901 cells and DHMF exerted no cytotoxicity on HCT-8 while induced inhibition proliferation of A549 and SGC-7901 cells. The acute toxicity study showed no mortality happened in any group even at the single dose of 2000 mg/kg body weight. These results suggest it is feasible to convert 5-HMF to DHMF via crude enzymes from fungus G. sessile under mild condition, and that DHMF displays a potential effect of antitumor in vitro with little acute toxicity.

Abstract Photoelectrochemical hydrogen generation is a promising approach to address the environmental pollution and energy crisis. In this work, we present a hybridized mechanical and solar energy-driven self-powered hydrogen production system. A rotatory disc-shaped triboelectric nanogenerator was employed to harvest mechanical energy from water and functions as a sufficient external power source. WO3/BiVO4 heterojunction photoanode was synthesized in a PEC water-splitting cell to produce H2. After transformation and rectification, the peak current reaches 0.1 mA at the rotation speed of 60 rpm. In this case, the H2 evolution process only occurs with sunlight irradiation. When the rotation speed is over 130 rpm, the peak photocurrent and peak dark current have nearly equal value. Direct electrolysis of water is almost simultaneous with photoelectrocatalysis of water. It is worth noting that the hydrogen production rate increases to 5.45 and 7.27 μL min−1 without or with light illumination at 160 rpm. The corresponding energy conversion efficiency is calculated to be 2.43% and 2.59%, respectively. All the results demonstrate such a self-powered system can successfully achieve the PEC hydrogen generation, exhibiting promising possibility of energy conversion.

Machine learning methods have made great development in data-driven fault diagnosis of rolling bearings. But the intelligent fault diagnosis of intershaft bearing faces the following two dilemmas: 1) the fault vibration is extremely weak, and it is difficult to extract features that can distinguish different classes; 2) due to the complex and variable working condition, the intershaft bearing does not always fail in same working conditions. That is, the labeled training data is not sufficient for every source domain. These challenges lead to the failure of traditional machine learning based fault diagnosis for intershaft bearings. Therefore, a novel intelligent fault diagnosis scheme is investigated for intershaft bearings of dual-rotor equipment under variable working conditions. The paper focuses on two key issues: 1) developing a feature extraction approach with which the fault features with excellent clustering and separation are extracted from vibration signals. This approach addresses the dilemma of weak fault feature extraction of intershaft bearing and creates a feasible precondition for subsequent feature transfer; 2) proposing a feature transfer method transforming the labeled sample features in multiple source domains into the trainable sample features in the target domain. This new transfer achieves the sharing of labeled training samples under working conditions and enriches the trainable samples in target domain. Ultimately, the faults of intershaft bearings can be diagnosed with the help of the neural network classifier trained by the transferred samples with labels. Experimental results verify that this established scheme is effective and superior to other comparable methods for the transfer diagnosis task from multiple source domains to target domain.

While converting water to H2 with a catalyst offers a renewable means to produce carbon-neutral fuels, understanding the catalytic active sites has proven challenging. Here, authors show a structurally well-defined model complex with Pt-O bonding to enable efficient H2 evolution electrocatalysis.
