This article aims to investigate the interest of self-initiated expatriates (SIEs) in working virtually for their country of origin and its relationship to the values of the individual. This research contributes to our understanding of the interest in working virtually for the country of origin and its relationships to universal values. The analysis is based on a quantitative study conducted with 1,970 SIEs from Lithuania. More than half of the respondents were willing to work virtually for their country of origin. Moreover, higher motivation influences the willingness to work virtually. Positive correlations were found between collectivist and individualist values and willingness to work virtually for the country of origin and between individualist values and economic motivation. The study is based solely on self-reports of their subjective values and opinions and refers to the case of expatriates from a single country.

Knowledge and skills of future employees should be constantly developed in order to be in line with changes, information flow, and new technologies. High unemployment rates of youth lead us to look for reasons and means to change this situation. However, university teachers in the entire world deal with students who do not care or who do not want to work every day. Therefore, this paper aims to present the results of intercultural study evaluating students’ attitudes to job performance. The research design is based on Blanchard and Thacker’s (2004) Human Performance model, which includes three main factors, namely i) Motivation, ii) Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes, and iii) Environment. The study provides insights on how students evaluate their skills, motivation and environment factors influencing their future performance in Lithuania, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Iran, Portugal and Estonia. Totally 1355 respondents participated in the poll. The results confirm that students evaluate their task related skills, which are the most important for employers as the weakest. Basic and growth needs are the most important, and specific environment influences students more according to the study. In addition, cultural differnces among respective countries were highlighted. This survey can be useful for university teachers working with international groups in order to improve students’ viewpoint on human performance at work within national and international context, and for employers to understand better new employees coming to work after graduation from universities.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.ee.27.2.13586

Entrepreneurial organisations continuously search for innovations and innovative ways of doing business that provide a competitive advantage in the market. In the age of countries without borders and free movement of people organisations in Eastern Europe deal with the lack of high quality labour force caused by migration that force to seek alternative ways of managing work and workplace. The paper analyses networking, virtual workplace and other characteristics of job design in entrepreneurial organisations. Results of the research in Lithuanian organisations show positive correlations between corporate entrepreneurship, networking at the workplace, and virtual workplace. Moreover, more and less entrepreneurial organisations differ in job complexity. No significant correlation between corporate entrepreneurship and two other characteristics of job design, i.e. multitasking and job autonomy, was found, hoewever, they have relationshis with virtual workplace as well as networking or job complexity. Current results suggest further researches on job design in the field of entrepreneurship and call organisations to use virtual workplace and networking design at the workplace. Straipsnyje pristatoma palyginamoji lietuvių ir ispanų studentų emigracijos priežasčių analizė. Minimose šalyse nedarbo lygis ir jaunų žmonių migracija yra didžiausia ES. Straipsnio tikslas – atskleisti ispanų ir lietuvių studentų emigracijos priežasčių skirtumus bei pateikti pasiūlymus situacijos gerinimui. Straipsnyje atlikta mokslinės literatūros ir statistinių duomenų analizė nedarbo lygio ir emigracijos klausimais bei empirinis tyrimas, nagrinėjantis studentų emigracijos priežastis Lietuvoje ir Ispanijoje. Empirinis tyrimas parodė, kad pagrindinės emigracijos priežastys abiems tirtosioms grupėms yra ekonominės. Kultūrinės ir socialinės-demografinės priežastys – antroje vietoje. Nežiūrint tam tikrų skirtumų, pasirenkant migracijos šalį, lietuvių ir ispanų studentams patraukliausios yra Jungtinė Karalystė ir Jungtinės Amerikos Valstijos. Analizuojant priežastis, dėl kurių pasirenkamos būtent šios šalys, buvo išskirtos šios: didesnis darbo užmokestis, geresnė galimybė gauti darbą bei kalba. Atlikta analizė patvirtino ir papildė ankstesnius šioje srityje atliktus tyrimus. Gautieji rezultatai galėtų pasitarnauti stabdant migracijos, ypač jaunimo, mastus, siekiant pristabdyti senėjančios visuomenės augimą tiek Ispanijoje, tiek Lietuvoje ir užtikrintų šių šalių darnų ekonominį vystymąsi. Comparison analysis of students emigration reasons in Lithuania and Spain is presented in this paper. These two countries face with big problems of unemployment, especially of young population and their emigration, what effects sustainable development of them. The purpose of this paper is to disclose students emigration reasons in Lithuania and Spain and to provide suggestions to improve existing situation. Methods used in this article are scientific literature and statistical data analysis on unemployment and migration in Lithuania and Spain, and empirical study analysing migration‘s reasons of undergraduate students in Lithuania and Spain. Results of data have showed that the economic factors are the most important reasons in the case of academic migration; the main countries for destination are the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the main reasons for selecting countries of migration are bigger salary and better possibility to get a job; presented study confirmed previous studies analysed main reasons of migration for students.
