Abstract

Large bandgap insulators are considered promising for applications such as photocatalysts, dielectric resonators and interference filters. Based on synchrotron X-ray diffraction, diffuse reflectance measurement and density functional theory, we report the crystal structure, optical response, and electronic properties of the synthesized $d^0$ double perovskite Ba$_2$ScTaO$_6$. In contrast to earlier prediction, the electronic bandgap is found to be large, $\sim 4.66$ eV. The optical response is characterized by the presence of multiple exciton modes extending up to the visible range. A detailed investigation of the direct gap excitons based on the Elliot formula is presented. Density functional theory based investigation of the electronic properties within generalized gradient approximation severely underestimates the electronic gap. To reach a quantitative agreement, we consider different available flavors of the modified-Becke-Johnson exchange-correlation potential and discuss their effects on the electronic and optical properties., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures

36. Public Debt and Economic Growth in India: The New Evidence.

Abstract

The study gives new evidence on the effects of public debt on economic growth in India with key macroeconomic indicators from 1980 to 2019. In the past decade, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a substantial rise in public debt, which reached 90% of the GDP in April 2021. Therefore, it is imperative to study the impact of different public debt sources on the Indian economy to help policymakers frame informed debt management policies. The long-run equilibrium relationship and cointegrating coefficients are calculated using Johansen cointegration and fully modified ordinary least square techniques. Toda and Yamamoto's (1995) Granger causality test is used as a short-run diagnostic test for the long-run equilibrium relationship. The study's major findings suggest that domestic debt, total factor productivity (TFP) and exports are the major determinants of economic development in the long run. In contrast, economic prosperity determines the growth of external debt, debt service payments and TFP in the short run. It is recommended that the government should control and channel public debt productively for favourable growth effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Time-dependent conduction in epitaxial superlattice (SL) strain relief layers of GaN high electron mobility transistors on 200 mm engineered substrates with a poly-AlN core was observed and analyzed. This phenomenon occurs when the devices were operated with substrate bias of ∼−300 V for 101–103 s. The formation of the conduction path is related to trap-assisted leakage through the SLs on the engineered substrates; de-trapped carriers spread out vertically and laterally within a portion of the SLs, leading to a higher electrical field across the rest of the layers. This conduction mechanism may be hidden during the devices' normal operation (target 650–1200 V). It could lead to undesired effects during the operation of the devices, such as a time-dependent dynamic Ron. More resistive SLs will potentially reduce the impact of this phenomenon. Abstract

The perovskites are desirable materials for photovoltaic and other renewable green energy technologies. Lead‐based perovskite solar cells (PSC) have recently gained considerable attention due to the abrupt rise in power conversion efficiency, but lead's well‐known toxicity prevents its large‐scale commercialization. One compelling option is Cs2TiBr6, which offers a nontoxic alternative. Herein, the electronic and optical characteristics of Cs2TiBr6 absorber material using density functional theory employing the WIEN2K tool are investigated. The energy band structure of Cs2TiBr6 shows an indirect bandgap of 2.2 eV. Additionally, optical properties are calculated, and the suitability of this material as an absorber for indoor and outdoor photovoltaic devices is investigated. The Cs2TiBr6 material has a peak absorption coefficient of 39.57 × 104 cm−1 and optical conductivity of 1.98 × 1015s−1, demonstrating its suitability as an absorber material. After that, a PSC is modeled using SCAPS‐1D by using the computed parameters. The performance of the modeled perovskite is enhanced by optimization of various parameters, resulting in the achievement of a high‐performance Cs2TiBr6‐based PSC, boasting a power conversion efficiency of 19.9% for air mass AM1.5 G spectra and power conversion efficiency of 16.76% for light emitting diode and 17.18% for incandescent light for indoor light conditions. This paper presents, a sensor limiting strategy for current measurement being recently recommended to interleaved boost inverter-based battery-super capacitor for HESS is introduced. Abstract

Generation of very fast transient over voltages (VFTOs) is very common during switching operations in gas insulated substations (GIS) and it is extremely harmful for substation equipment like transformers as it becomes a reason of insulation damage due to its less arising time. Sometimes, the VFTOs magnitude may be very near to the basic insulation level (BIL). Improvement and investigation of such transients in power transformer is of crucial importance in GIS as transformers are vital components of power system network. Generation of transient issues considers the generation and propagation of VFTOs while switching of circuit breakers or disconnector switches or earth faults. In this research, the investigation is on VFTO by putting intelligible models for a GIS of a capacity 400 KV. This paper presents a modeling guideline for VFTO analysis in GIS and, further mitigation techniques such as Nano-crystalline Rings, RC Filter, Ferrite Rings, Damping Resistance etc. have been studied using MATLAB simulation. Using an intelligent optimization technique like PSO, VFTO waveforms can be scaled down further to controllable limits so that substation components can be saved from impending failures. Further VFTO effect on GIS such as stress on substation Transformer leading to winding deformation has been discussed in this paper and localization of deformation and type of deformation in transformer winding is also carried out using intelligent classifier.
