Introduction: Osteoarthritis of the knee is a common musculoskeletal diseases affecting a major population in India. It can impact the individual's functions and activities of daily living. Total knee arthroplasty may raise controversy when treating the younger, athletic patient with arthritis. Arthroscopic debridement, high tibial osteotomy, unicondylar knee arthroplasty, and total knee arthroplasty allow younger patients to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle but can take a longer time to rehabilitate. PFO could be used as an alternative procedure. The Proximal Fibular Osteotomy, which provides immediate short term relief in cases with medial compartment osteoarthritis. Resecting a segment of bula, loosens the lateral side allowing the upper tibia to settle into a more favorable lateral alignment, shifting the mechanical axis towards neutral or valgus. Aims & objectives: Ÿ To assess the functional, clinical and radiological outcome of proximal bular osteotomy in grade 2 and 3 OA of knee and followed up for 1 year. Ÿ The clinical and functional outcome is accessed by Knee Society Score and VAS observed pre-op , post-op ,3 months ,6 months and 12 months. Ÿ The improvement in radiology is accessed using change in the medial joint space improvements in CP angle, change in the ratio of medial joint space to lateral joint space observed pre-op and post-op Methodology: The patients selected had grade 2 and 3 Osteoarthritis of knee according to Kellgren Lawrence classication between the age groups 20yrs-80yrs and are admitted to RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore. The Sample Size is 30 and is calculated based on previous studies as well as approximate availability of number of cases in the above mentioned duration satisfying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Clinical, functional and radiological outcome were used, Results were calculated using Knee Society Scoring Scale score. This study Conclusion: suggested that Proximal Fibular Osteotomy is an alternative procedure that can be used to treat medial compartment knee Osteoarthritis, if the patients are selected carefully. Patients followed up for one year showed a signicant improvement in radiological, clinical and functional outcomes and thereby is an effective method of treatment in younger patients with Grade 2 and Grade 3 Osteoarthritis with an average BMI of 26.2

Objective The purpose of this study was to explore awareness and assess the risk of fall in stroke patients.Methods In this study100 stroke patients were recruited. The patients were asked to answer questions focusing on their awareness of risk of fall in stroke patients. All the collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0.Results The respondents were asked questions and each correct response was scored lsquo1rsquo and wrong answer was scored lsquo0rsquo. The level of awareness was classified into 3 categories good awareness average awareness and poor awareness. Overall 97 participants had poor knowledge on awareness and 100 participants had the fear of falling.Conclusions Patients had poor level of awareness about stroke and majority of stroke patients had the fear of falling.

Objectives International migration is rapidly increasing worldwide. However, the health status of migrants differs across groups. Information regarding health at arrival and subsequent periodic follow-up in the host country is necessary to develop equitable health care to immigrants. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of the length of stay in Norway and other sociodemographic variables on the prevalence of multimorbidity across immigrant groups (refugees, labour immigrants, family reunification immigrants and education immigrants). Methods This is a register-based study merging data from the National Population Register and the Norwegian Health Economics Administration database. Sociodemographic variables and multimorbidity across the immigrant groups were compared using Persons’ chi-square test and anova as appropriate. Several binary logistic regression models were conducted. Results Multimorbidity was significantly lower among labour immigrants (OR (95% CI) 0.23 (0.21–0.26) and 0.45 (0.40–0.50) for men and women, respectively) and education immigrants (OR (95% CI) 0.40 (0.32–0.50) and 0.38 (0.33–0.43)) and higher among refugees (OR (95% CI) 1.67 (1.57–1.78) and 1.83 (1.75–1.92)), compared to family reunification immigrants. For all groups, multimorbidity doubled after a five-year stay in Norway. Effect modifications between multimorbidity and sociodemographic characteristics across the different reasons for migration were observed. Conclusions Multimorbidity was highest among refugees at arrival but increased rapidly among labour immigrants, especially females. Health providers need to ensure tailor-made preventive and management strategies that take into account pre-migration and post-migration experiences for immigrants in order to address their needs.

Purpose: In recent years, there has been much focus on compassion in nursing care, and concern has been raised in a number of reports and media stories regarding decreased compassion. The aim of this study was to explore similarities and differences in the understanding and demonstration of compassion in nursing practice across 15 countries. Design: A total of 1,323 nurses from 15 countries responded to questions in relation to compassion, via an international online survey. Results: The data revealed the impact of sociopolitical influences on perceptions of compassion, and the conscious and intentional nature of compassion. Discussion and Conclusion: The study demonstrated shared understandings of the importance of compassion as well as some common perceptions of the attributes of compassionate care. The differences reported were not as significant as had been expected. Implications for Practice: Further research is needed to explore the country and culture differences in the enactment of compassion. © 2015, © The Author(s) 2015.

Background: Compassion is considered the cornerstone of nursing practice. However, the recent failures in delivering high-quality compassionate nursing care in the UK's National Health Service have brought the topic of compassion to the attention of the public, service providers, policy makers and academics. Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the nurses’ views and experiences of a number of compassion-related issues in nursing and describe similarities and differences at an international level as well as from the different nursing roles of the participating nurses. Methods: An exploratory, cross-sectional descriptive study, using the International Online Compassion Questionnaire. A total of 1323 nurses from 15 countries completed the questionnaire. Results: The majority of participants (59.5%) defined compassion as “Deep awareness of the suffering of others and wish to alleviate it” but definitions of compassion varied by country. Of participants, 69.6% thought compassion was very important in nursing and more than half (59.6%) of them argued that compassion could be taught. However, only 26.8% reported that the correct amount and level of teaching is provided. The majority of the participants (82.6%) stated that their patients prefer knowledgeable nurses with good interpersonal skills. Only 4.3% noted that they are receiving compassion from their managers. A significant relationship was found between nurses’ experiences of compassion and their views about teaching of compassion. Conclusion: Our study is unique in identifying the views and experiences of nurses from 15 different countries worldwide. The findings reveal that compassion is neither addressed adequately in nursing education nor supported in the practice environment by managers. Limitations: Self-report bias was inherent to our survey study design. Furthermore, the individual cultural differences and similarities in the findings are difficult to extrapolate owing to the fact that our analysis was at country level, as well as at the level of the participating nurses. Implications for nursing policy: Understanding the influence of culture on nurses’ views about compassion is critical in the current multicultural healthcare environment and merits further research. This will potentially drive changes in nursing education (ensuring that compassion is taught to nurses) and in the way healthcare leaders and managers foster a compassionate culture within their organizations (e.g. by leading by example and compassionate to their staff). © 2016 International Council of Nurses
