IntroductionThe 2024 Voice AI Symposium, presented by the Bridge2AI-Voice Consortium, featured deep-dive educational workshops conducted by experts from diverse fields to explore the latest advancements in voice biomarkers and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in healthcare. Through five workshops, attendees learned about topics including international standardization of vocal biomarker data, real-world deployment of AI solutions, assistive technologies for voice disorders, best practices for voice data collection, and deep learning applications in voice analysis. These workshops aimed to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and healthcare to advance the development and implementation of voice-based AI tools.MethodsEach workshop featured a combination of lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions. Transcripts of audio recordings were generated using Whisper (Version 7.13.1) and summarized by ChatGPT (Version 4.0), then reviewed by the authors. The workshops covered various methodologies, from signal processing and machine learning operations (MLOps) to ethical concerns surrounding AI-powered voice data collection. Practical demonstrations of AI-driven tools for voice disorder management and technical discussions on implementing voice AI models in clinical and non-clinical settings provided attendees with hands-on experience.ResultsKey outcomes included the discussion of international standards to unify stakeholders in vocal biomarker research, practical challenges in deploying AI solutions outside the laboratory, review of Bridge2AI-Voice data collection processes, and the potential of AI to empower individuals with voice disorders. Additionally, presenters shared innovations in ethical AI practices, scalable machine learning frameworks, and advanced data collection techniques using diverse voice datasets. The symposium highlighted the successful integration of AI in detecting and analyzing voice signals for various health applications, with significant advancements in standardization, privacy, and clinical validation processes.DiscussionThe symposium underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to address the technical, ethical, and clinical challenges in the field of voice biomarkers. While AI models have shown promise in analyzing voice data, challenges such as data variability, security, and scalability remain. Future efforts must focus on refining data collection standards, advancing ethical AI practices, and ensuring diverse dataset inclusion to improve model robustness. By fostering collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and technologists, the symposium laid a foundation for future innovations in AI-driven voice analysis for healthcare diagnostics and treatment.

Abstract Background Lipodystrophy is a rare disease characterized by loss of adipose tissue. Natural history studies have demonstrated significant burden of disease; however, there is limited data on the impact of lipodystrophy on quality of life (QoL) and psychoemotional well-being. The QuaLip study is a prospective observational real-world study that aims to determine the impact of lipodystrophy on QoL and psychoemotional well-being and explore subjective burden of the disease. Sixty-seven adult patients and eight pediatric patients with lipodystrophy were included. Patients were followed up for 24 months and assessments were repeated every three months. Patients were examined by licensed psychiatrists at baseline, and at year 1 and year 2 visits. Results Eighteen (27.69%) of 65 adult patients (two subjects refused psychiatric assessment) were diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder (e.g., depressive episodes, mixed anxiety and depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, adjustment disorder, recurrent depression, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, unspecified mood disorder, nonorganic sleep disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, depressive episode comorbidity, social phobia and obsessive–compulsive disorder comorbidity). Lipodystrophy disease and QoL questionnaires revealed a significant disease burden over the study period. More than one-third of patients reported depression symptoms on the Beck Depression Inventory and more than one-fourth of the patients reported significant hunger throughout the study period. Physical appearance, fatigue, and pain contributed to the disease burden. QoL scores were lower in patients with psychiatric disease and in those with poor metabolic control. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depressive disorder, sub-threshold depressive symptoms, obsessive–compulsive disorder, appetite problems, and issues with physical appearance were identified in selected pediatric subjects. Conclusions Lipodystrophy has a significant impact on QoL and psychoemotional well-being. Psychiatric disorders seem to be underdiagnosed among patients with lipodystrophy.

Abstract Indium (In) is a neutron absorbing additive that could feasibly be used to mitigate criticality in ceramic wasteforms containing Pu in the immobilised form, for which zirconolite (nominally CaZrTi2O7) is a candidate host phase. Herein, the solid solutions Ca1-xZr1-xIn2xTi2O7 (0.10 ≤ x ≤ 1.00; air synthesis) and Ca1-xUxZrTi2-2xIn2xO7 (x = 0.05, 0.10; air and argon synthesis) were investigated by conventional solid state sintering at a temperature of 1350 °C maintained for 20 h, with a view to characterise In3+ substitution behaviour in the zirconolite phase across the Ca2+, Zr4+ and Ti4+ sites. When targeting Ca1-xZr1-xIn2xTi2O7, single phase zirconolite-2M was formed at In concentrations of 0.10 ≤ x ≤ 0.20; beyond x ≥ 0.20, a number of secondary In-containing phases were stabilised. Zirconolite-2M remained a constituent of the phase assemblage up to a concentration of x = 0.80, albeit at relatively low concentration beyond x ≥ 0.40. It was not possible to synthesise the In2Ti2O7 end member compound using a solid state route. Analysis of the In K-edge XANES spectra in the single phase zirconolite-2M compounds confirmed that the In inventory was speciated as trivalent In3+, consistent with targeted oxidation state. However, fitting of the EXAFS region using the zirconolite-2M structural model was consistent with In3+ cations accommodated within the Ti4+ site, contrary to the targeted substitution scheme. When deploying U as a surrogate for immobilised Pu in the Ca1-xUxZrTi2-2xIn2xO7 solid solution, it was demonstrated that, for both x = 0.05 and 0.10, In3+ was successfully able to stabilise zirconolite-2M when U was distributed predominantly as both U4+ and average U5+, when synthesised under argon and air, respectively, determined by U L3-edge XANES analysis.

Zirconolite is a candidate ceramic wasteform under consideration for the immobilisation of the UK civil PuO2 inventory. In the present work, a baseline dual-substituted zirconolite with the target composition (Ca0.783Gd0.017Ce0.2)(Zr0.883Gd0.017Ce0.1)(Ti1.6Al0.4)O7 was fabricated by hot isostatic pressing (HIPing). In order to optimise the microstructure properties and improve the obtained yield of the zirconolite phase, a range of planetary ball milling parameters were investigated prior to consolidation by HIP. This included milling the batched oxide precursors at 400 rpm for up to 120 min, the pre-milling of CeO2 (PuO2 surrogate) to reduce the particle size and using a CeO2 source with finer particle size (3-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy was utilised to determine the Ce oxidation state. In this study, the ideal milling parameter for the fabrication of zirconolite waste forms was defined as 60 min at 400 rpm.

BackgroundAntimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as a major global public health challenge due to the overuse and misuse of antibiotics for humans and animals. Hospitals are among the major users of antibiotics, thereby having a large contribution to AMR. ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacteria and the level of antibiotic residues in the hospital effluents in Selangor, Malaysia. MethodsA cross-sectional study will be performed in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. Tertiary hospitals will be identified based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The methods are divided into three phases: sample collection, microbiological analysis, and chemical analysis. Microbiological analyses will include the isolation of bacteria from hospital effluents by culturing on selective media. Antibiotic sensitivity testing will be performed on the isolated bacteria against ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, meropenem, vancomycin, colistin, and piperacillin/tazobactam. The identification of bacteria will be confirmed using 16S RNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and multiplex PCR will be performed to detect resistance genes (ermB, mecA, blaNDM-L, blaCTX-M, blaOXA-48, blaSHV, VanA, VanB, VanC1, mcr-1, mcr-2, mcr-3, Intl1, Intl2, and qnrA). Finally, the level of antibiotic residues will be measured using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography. ResultsThe expected outcomes will be the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter (ESKAPE) bacterial species from the hospital effluents, the occurrence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) from the isolated ESKAPE bacteria, and the level of antibiotic residues that may be detected from the effluent. Sampling has been conducted in three hospitals. Data analysis from one hospital showed that as of July 2022, 80% (8/10) of E. faecium isolates were resistant to vancomycin and 10% (1/10) were resistant to ciprofloxacin. Further analysis will be conducted to determine if the isolates harbor any ARGs and effluent samples are being analyzed to detect antibiotic residues. Sampling activities will be resumed after being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are scheduled to end by December 2022. ConclusionsThis study will provide the first baseline information to elucidate the current status of AMR of highly pathogenic bacteria present in hospital effluents in Malaysia. Objective: The term psychotic experiences (PEs) encompass subclinical hallucinatory and delusional experiences. There are limited number of studies on PEs clinical and socio-demographic characteristics. We aimed to investigate the association between PEs and patterns of cannabis use, cognitive functions, schizotypy and childhood traumas. Methods: Participants were recruited from specialized units using the snowball method. All of the participants were regular cannabis users. Participants with PEs and without PEs were compared by looking into socio-demographic and clinical correlates. Significant variables at univariate comparisons were included in binary multivariate logistic regression analysis with PEs as the dependent variable. Results: Forty participants were recruited (20 with PEs, 20 without PEs). Adolescence onset of cannabis use (χ2 = 8.120; p < 0.05), positive schizotypy (t = 3.762; p < 0.01), Trail Making Test A (TMT A) Scores (u = 98.5; p < 0.01) and emotional neglect (u = 128; p = 0.05) were significantly associated with PEs. The binary regression model included a significant contribution of positive schizotypy (OR = 1.16, CI 1.025–1.330) and TMT A Score (OR = 1.22, CI 1.03–1.44). Conclusions: Results showed a novel positive association of PEs with adolescent-onset cannabis use, TMT A Scores, positive schizotypy and emotional neglect. Hence, it is required to construct such structures which can resist earthquake. The construction of earthquake resistant structures and its effective design is much more required all over the world, particularly, the places where earthquake vulnerability is maximum. This paper is reviewed and tested experimentally for the innovative design of earthquake resistant building which is proposed by engineers and scientists all over the world.in this paper we create multiplex with different link arrangements to minimize the seismic effect and make structure dynamically stable. Other part of the paper concentrates on bolting and busing system with graphene multilayer coting as a vibration isolation and damper.

Background: Endoscopic intervention is often the first line of therapy for GI nonvariceal bleeding. Although some of the devices and techniques used for this purpose have been well studied, others are relatively new, with few available outcomes data. Methods: In this document, we review devices and techniques for endoscopic treatment of nonvariceal GI bleeding, the evidence regarding their efficacy and safety, and financial considerations for their use. Results: Devices used for endoscopic hemostasis in the GI tract can be classified into injection devices (needles), thermal devices (multipolar/bipolar probes, hemostatic forceps, heater probe, argon plasma coagulation, radiofrequency ablation, and cryotherapy), mechanical devices (clips, suturing devices, banding devices, stents), and topical devices (hemostatic sprays). Conclusions: Endoscopic evaluation and treatment remains a cornerstone in the management of nonvariceal upper- and lower-GI bleeding. A variety of devices is available for hemostasis of bleeding lesions in the GI tract. Other than injection therapy, which should not be used as monotherapy, there are few compelling data that strongly favor any one device over another. For endoscopists, the choice of a hemostatic device should depend on the type and location of the bleeding lesion, the availability of equipment and expertise, and the cost of the device.

Introduction Fetal growth restriction, preterm birth, low birth weight and stillbirth are adverse birth outcomes that are prevalent in low-income and middle-income settings such as the Pacific Island region. It is widely accepted that the excess burden of adverse birth outcomes is attributable to socioeconomic and environmental factors that predispose families to excess risk. Our review seeks to determine the prevalence of adverse birth outcomes in the Pacific Island region and to identify the risk factors of adverse birth outcomes in the Pacific Island region.Methods This scoping review will follow the five-staged Arksey and O’Malley’s framework and consultation with Solomon Islands’ health stakeholders. A preliminary literature review was undertaken to understand the scope of the review. We will use Medical Subject Heading and keyword terms for adverse birth outcomes to search CINAHL, Medline, Scopus, ProQuest and Springer Link databases for articles published from 1 January 2000. The subsequent searches will be undertaken via Google Scholar and the internet browser to world health organisation and regional health organisations for published and unpublished reports on non-indexed studies. All articles retrieved will be managed with EndNote software. Eligible studies will be screened using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses flow chart for final selection. In the charting phase, we will extract the data into Excel spreadsheets. The results will be presented as numerical and thematic summaries that map risk factors and prevalence to the population and cultures of the Pacific Island region.Ethics and dissemination Formal ethical approval is not required as primary or administrative data will not be collected. However, we will seek ethics approval for the stakeholder consultation from the Research Office of Curtin University and the Solomon Islands. The findings of this study will be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented in national and regional conferences and disseminated to stakeholders.Ethics approval There will be no direct contact with human or patients in the case of the scoping review; therefore, no ethics will be required. However, we will seek ethical approval from the Research Ethics Office of Curtin University and the Health Research and Ethics Committee in the Solomon Islands for stakeholder consultation. Dissemination will be made through regional conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
