Background: This study presents an intelligent table tennis e-training system based on a neural network (NN) model that recognizes data from sensors built into an armband device, with the component values (performances scores) estimated through principal component analysis (PCA). Methods: Six expert male table tennis players on the National Youth Team (mean age 17.8 ± 1.2 years) and seven novice male players (mean age 20.5 ± 1.5 years) with less than 1 year of experience were recruited into the study. Three-axis peak forearm angular velocity, acceleration, and eight-channel integrated electromyographic data were used to classify both player level and stroke phase. Data were preprocessed through PCA extraction from forehand loop signals. The model was trained using 160 datasets from five experts and five novices and validated using 48 new datasets from one expert and two novices. Results: The overall model’s recognition accuracy was 89.84%, and its prediction accuracies for testing and new data were 93.75% and 85.42%, respectively. Principal components corresponding to the skills “explosive force of the forearm” and “wrist muscle control” were extracted, and their factor scores were standardized (0–100) to score the skills of the players. Assessment results indicated that expert scores generally fell between 60 and 100, whereas novice scores were less than 70. Conclusion: The developed system can provide useful information to quantify expert-novice differences in fore-hand loop skills.

Context: Warm-up exercise is an essential preexercise routine for athletes to optimize performance. However, the benefits of combined warm-up protocols remain unclear. Objective: This comparative study investigated the acute effects of dynamic stretching (DS) followed by static stretching (SS), self-myofascial release using a foam rolling (FR) device, or vibration foam rolling (VFR) as a warm-up exercise to improve flexibility, power, agility, and specific skills in elite table tennis players. Design: A crossover study. Setting: University. Participants: Twenty-three elite table tennis players. Interventions: Players completed 3 different interventions in a random order (DS + SS, DS + FR, and DS + VFR). The target muscle groups included the bilateral posterior calf, posterior thigh, anterior thigh, back, and shoulder. Main Outcome Measures: Sit-and-reach test for flexibility, board jump test for lower-extremity power, medicine ball throw test for upper-extremity power, Edgren Side Step Test for agility, and ball speed of table tennis was assessed before and after intervention. Results: After intervention, significant increases in flexibility (15.2%, 20.4%, and 23.8%); lower-limb power (4.5%, 6.6%, and 6.3%); upper-limb power (9.6%, 8.5%, and 9.1%); and ball speed (7.4%, 7.6%, and 7.7%) were observed for DS + SS, DS + FR, and DS + VFR, respectively (all P P Conclusion: The authors suggest that a combination of DS with FR or VFR as warm-up exercises significantly improved flexibility, power, ball speed, in addition to agility in elite table tennis players. Coach and athletic professionals may take this information into account for choosing more effective warm-up protocols to enhance performance.

Fully implementing the barcode medication administration system has been shown to help improve medication safety. We have promoted the barcode medication administration system in our hospital since May of 2014. However, the rate of implementation reached only 32% initially. We identified the major obstacles to fully implementing the barcode system as: (1) the barcodes on patients' wristbands were smudged or broken; (2) the barcodes on transparent drug bags and infusion bags were difficult to scan; (3) nurses were not familiar with the scanner and lacked the skills necessary to conduct barcode scans; (4) poor wireless Internet access inhibited effective barcode scanning; and (5) the beep sound generated during barcode scanning disturbed patients' sleep. The present project was conducted to improve the implementation by nursing staff of the barcode medication administration system.The purpose was to increase the rate of implementation from 32% to 80%.The key members of the project were nurses, computer technicians, and pharmacists. The following procedures were conducted: (1) check the integrity of the wrist band and renew this band periodically; (2) print the barcode against a white background on transparent drug transfusion bags; (3) demonstration the skills of barcode scanning to nurses and inspect the function of scanners periodically; (4) increase the number of access points for the wireless network; (5) demonstrate the procedure for adjusting the sound volume on the scanner; and (6) provide rewards / incentives for using the barcode medication administration system.The rate of implementation of the barcode medication administration system increased from 32% to 85.2%.This project significantly increased the use of the barcode medication administration system by our nursing staff. A thin ZnO film (approximately 500 nm in thickness) was deposited on quartz glass by sputtering a ZnO target (purity of 99.995%) using a radio frequency (RF) power source in the magnetron sputter. Annealing of the specimen at elevated temperatures (i.e., 1000, 1100, and 1200 °C) was conducted to clarify the effects of annealing on the microstructure and optical characteristics of the film. It was found that silicon ions diffused faster than zinc and oxygen ions in the system containing the oxide film and quartz glass substrate Zn2SiO4 whose thickness depended on the annealing temperature and duration. The surface and cross-sectional morphologies of the as-sputtered film and films annealed at various temperatures were examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and in more detail by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Line scans obtained by scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) showed that the composition (wt %) of the film annealed at 1200 °C was Zn (70%), Si (20%), and O (10%). These findings indicated that ZnO completely transferred into the Zn2SiO4 film to act as a luminescence center in the case of postannealing at 1200 °C for 2 h. The amounts of ZnO transferred to Zn2SiO4 were 38.5% at 1000 °C and 31.1% at 1100 °C for the same duration. The specimens annealed at 1000, 1100, and 1200 °C showed no photoluminescence (PL) emission as determined by measurement.
