Abstract

1.A reversible temperature dependence has been found for the31P{1H} NMR spectra of cymanthrenyl carbenium ions with two phosphine ligands.2.The conversion of the carbinol predecessors to the cymanthrenyl carbenium ions with two phosphine ligands is accompanied by the appearance ofa barrier to free rotation of the metallocarbonyl fragment Mn(CO)(P)2 around the Mn-cyclopentadienyl bond.

Abstract

1.Measurements have been made on the1H and13C NMR spectra of the 1-alkoxy- and 1-alkylthio-1-buten-3-ynes.2.The trans isomers of these compounds exist as s-cis and gauche conformers with respect to the E-C1 bond; the cis isomers are probably in something closer to s-trans conformers.3.The charge distribution in the vinylacetyl fragment is determined by the combined effect of multiple-bond p polarization and p delocalization. The relative significance of these effects is determined, in turn, by the geometrical structure of the compound.4.The1H-1H and1H-13C spin-spin coupling constants are shown to be characteristic of interaction in the various fragments.
