Abstract

The present paper is aimed at sharing practical experience of organizing active interaction with Maritime English students of remote groups in conditions of permanent online teaching and learning processes. The authors explore various strategies that can be integrated into the design and development of tailored e‐ books and tutors’ e‐courses to foster high level of Maritime English students’ online interaction. In addition, the use of modern digital tools for the successful running of e‐books and e‐courses is discussed as well as the role these tools play in promoting atmosphere of interaction to allow students be deeply engaged into learning activities and contribute to genuine discussion. A few aspects considered with regard to the process of designing e‐books and e‐courses are accessibility of learning materials, integration of design elements, and development of students’ online community, encouraging discussions and application of effective assessment methods. The study examines their experience of teaching Maritime English using Moodle and Zoom platforms. The findings of the study can be useful for educators to promote more interactive online learning. Abstract

A number of preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated the efficiency of mesenchymal stromal cells to serve as an excellent base for a cell-mediated drug delivery system. Cell-based targeted drug delivery has received much attention as a system to facilitate the uptake a nd transfer of active substances to specific organs and tissues with high efficiency. Human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are attracting increased interest as a promising tool for cell-based therapy due to their high proliferative capacity, multi-potency, and anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. In particular, these cells are potentially suitable for use as encapsulated drug transporters to sites of inflammation. Here, we studied the in vitro effects of incorporating synthetic polymer microcapsules at various microcapsule-to-cell ratios on the morphology, ultrastructure, cytokine profile, and migration ability of human adipose-derived MSCs at various time points post-phagocytosis. The data show that under appropriate conditions, human MSCs can be efficiently loaded with synthesized microcapsules without damaging the cell’s structural integrity with unexpressed cytokine secretion, retained motility, and ability to migrate through 8 μm pores. Thus, the strategy of using human MSCs as a delivery vehicle for transferring microcapsules, containing bioactive material, across the tissue–blood or tumor–blood barriers to facilitate the treatment of stroke, cancer, or inflammatory diseases may open a new therapeutic perspective.

Abstract

Aim. To determine the sensitivity of filmforming strains of staphylococci, isolated from the respiratory tract, to bacteriophages drugsMethods and results. It is established that biofilmforming ability was indicated in 16 (61.5 %) of the studied strains of Staphylococcus aureus, isolated from the upper respiratory tract of people. The remaining 10 (38.5 %) was not filmforming strains.Conclusion. It was determined that more than 80% of the film- and non-filmforming strains were sensitive to phages of the drugs «Piobaсteriophage» and «Staphylococcal bacteriophage», to drug «Intestiphage» was sensitive 56.3% filmforming strains and 70% non-filmforming strains., Способность бактерий к пленкообразованию может усиливать ряд их свойств, в том числе устойчивость к антибиотикам, что приводит к необходимости поиска альтернативных средств, среди которых перспективными являются бактериофаги. Для изучения чувствительности биопленкообразующих штаммов золотистого стафилококка к лечебным препаратам фагов было исследовано 26 штаммов, способных и неспособных к пленкообразованию. Для исследований использовали бактериологические методы и методы определения чувствительности к фагам. Установлено, что биопленки образовывали 16 (61,5%) штаммов. Более 80% как пленко-, так и непленкообразующих штаммов были чувствительны к фагам препаратов «Пиобактериофаг» и «Бактериофаг стафилококковый», к препарату «Интестифаг» чувствительными были 56,3% пленкообразующих штаммов и 70% необразующих пленку, что свидетельствует о возможности эффективного применения фагов для терапии осложнений, вызванных пленкообразующими штаммами., Здатність бактерій до біоплівкоутворення може посилювати ряд їхніх властивостей, у тому числі стійкість до антибіотиків, що обумовлює потребу в пошуку альтернативних засобів лікування, серед яких перспективними є бактеріофаги. Для вивчення чутливості біоплівкоутворюючих штамів золотистого стафілокока до препаратів фагів вивчили 26 штамів, котрі здатні та нездатні до утворення біоплівки. Для досліджень використовували бактеріологічні методи та методи вивчення чутливості до фагів. Встановили, що біоплівки утворювали 16 (61,5%) штамів золотистого стафілокока, що досліджувались. Визначили, що понад 80% як плівко-, так і неплівкоутворюючих штамів були чутливі до фагів із препаратів «Піобактеріофаг» і «Бактеріофаг стафілококовий», до препарату «Інтестіфаг» чутливими були 56,3% плівкоутворюючих штамів і 70%, які не утворювали плівку, а це свідчить про можливість ефективного застосування фагів для терапії ускладнень, котрі викликані плівкоутворюючими штамами.
