15. Unveiling Phytochemicals and Antioxidant, Cytotoxic, Antithrombotic, Anti-Inflammatory, Analgesic, Hypoglycemic and Antidiarrheal Activities from the Leaves Extract of Zanthoxylum rhetsa (Roxb.) DC.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the chemico-pharmacological properties of the leaves methanolic extract (ME) of Zanthoxylum rhetsa (Roxb.) and its various solvent fractions, focusing on its antioxidant, cytotoxic, thrombolytic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, hypoglycaemic, and antidiarrheal effects. Methods: Phytochemicals in the ME were identified and characterized using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Antioxidant activity was measured via DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) scavenging assay and measuring total phenolic content (TPC). Anti-inflammatory, thrombolytic, and cytotoxic effects were evaluated using membrane stabilization, clot lysis, and brine shrimp bioassays, respectively. In vivo evaluations of hypoglycaemic, antidiarrheal, and analgesic activities of the ME (200, 400 and 600 mg/kg bw) were conducted in mice model. Results: A total of 65 phytoconstituents were identified in the ME, where 13-docosenamide (Z) (17.78%) and phytol (10.64%) were the most abundant. The aqueous soluble fraction (AQSF) fraction exhibited the highest TPC (181.875 mg GAE/gm of extractive) and antioxidant efficacy (IC50 = 4.78 μg/mL). The AQSF also exhibited promising antithrombotic properties, showing over 88% clot lysis capacity. Furthermore, chloroform soluble fraction (CSF) displayed 93.2% haemolysis inhibition under heat-induced conditions, while the inhibition of haemolysis was 46.8% in hypotonic conditions. All the tested three doses showed dose-dependent statistically significant (p < 0.05) analgesic and antidiarrheal efficacy, where only 200 and 400 mg/kg bw doses exhibited significant hypoglycaemic effects. In acute oral toxicity test, the ME exhibited median lethal dose greater than 4000 mg/kg bw. Conclusions: Z. rhetsa leaf extractives demonstrated promising antioxidant, cytotoxic, antithrombotic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antidiarrheal effects, supporting the traditional uses of the plant species. Further extensive investigation, particularly on the AQSF fraction, is recommended to identify the responsible lead compounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The spatial and size distributions of titanium diisopropoxide bisacetylacetonate [(C5H7O2)2[(CH3)2CHO]2, also known as Ti(acac)2(OiPr)2] mist, diluted in CH3OH, are investigated in a tubular furnace using atmospheric‐pressure mist chemical vapor deposition (mist CVD). The focus is on the deposition of amorphous (a)‐TiO2 films with tubular furnace temperature and mesh bias as variables. When the furnace temperature reaches 350 °C, the number density of mist particles increases without significant changes in their size distribution, leading to a higher film deposition rate. Further, the deposition rate and average size of the mist particles with lower adhesion coefficient decrease with increasing spatial distance from the furnace inlet. Furthermore, applying a mesh bias results in an increase in the maximum number density of mist particles with a narrower size distribution; however, the overall film deposition rate decreases. These variations are attributed to the chemical reactivity of the mist precursors produced by pyrolysis and mesh bias. The fine mist precursors, which are strongly charged, coordinate with CH3OH and CHO groups through solvation, enhancing their chemical stability and lifetime. This process yields a dense and rigid a‐TiO2 network, improving the junction properties at the a‐TiO2/c‐Si interface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We investigated the synthesis of amorphous aluminum titanium oxide Al1−xTixOy thin films from a Al(acac)3 and Ti(acac)4 mixture using CH3OH/H2O as a solvent through mist chemical vapor deposition (mist-CVD) for application as a high dielectric material. The Ti composition ratio x in the Al1−xTixOy thin films depends on the Al(acac)3 and Ti(acac)4 mixing ratios and CH3OH/H2O volume ratio. A bandgap energy of Al1−xTixOy films was decreased from 6.38 to 4.25 eV and the surface roughness also decreased when the Ti composition ratio was increased from 0 to 0.54. The capacitance–voltage plot revealed that the dielectric constant of Al1−xTixOy thin films increased from 6.23 to 25.12. Consequently, Al1−xTixOy thin films with a bandgap energy of 5.12 eV and a dielectric constant of 13.8 were obtained by adjusting the ratio x of 0.26. This Al0.74Ti0.26Oy layer was applied as a gate dielectric layer for metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) using a mechanically exfoliated two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC), MoSe2, and As-doped WSe2 flakes as a channel layer. The MoSe2-based MOSFETs with source/drain gold electrodes exhibit n-channel behavior with a field-effect mobility of 85 cm2/(V s), a threshold voltage of 0.92 V. On the other hand, an on/off ratio of ∼106. As-doped WSe2-based MOSFETs with source/drain platinum electrodes also showed an ambipolar behavior, which was applied for use in logic applications. These findings suggest that Al0.74Ti0.26Oy by mist-CVD is promising as a high-k material for TMDC-based MOSFETs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

39. Unveiling the Structural, Electronic, Optical, Mechanical, and Photovoltaic Properties of Lead-Free Inorganic New Ba3MBr3(M = As, N, P, and Sb) Perovskites

Abstract

Highly efficient, stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are investigated using barium (Ba)-based homologous series compound materials such as Ba3MBr3(M = As, P, Sb, and N) as absorbers due to their exceptional light-absorbing and stability qualities. Despite achieving a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of approximately 25% with lead (Pb)-based perovskites, significant challenges persist due to their absorbing efficacy and environmental instability. Our study employs first-principles calculations (Density Functional Theory; DFT) and SCAPS-1D simulation to unveil the electronic, mechanical, optical, and solar cell characteristics of Ba3MBr3perovskite compounds. These compounds exhibit unique geometric structures, suitable band structures, charge density distributions, and partial density of states (PDOS), with direct band-gaps ranging from 0.532 to 0.976 eV. Investigation into the photoconversion efficiency (PCE) in solar cell structures utilizing Ba3MBr3absorbers and SnS2electron transport layers (ETL) reveals a peak PCE of ≈29.8% in Ba3PBr3-absorber heterostructure, with VOCof 0.720 V, JSCof 49.50 mA cm–2, FF of 83.30%, and quantum efficiency (QE) ≥ 90% in the range of 300–1200 nm of AM1.5G spectra. The combined (DFT and SCAPS-1D) studies provide detailed insights into Ba-based perovskites and the necessary resources for fabricating high-efficiency, stable inorganic PSCs for advanced photovoltaic technology.
