Background: The global epidemic of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) is increasing. Current assessments that monitor capacity to address NCDs are often externally led and do not facilitate country planning. The Noncommunicable Disease Capacity Assessment and Planning (N-CAP) Process assists ministries of health and other governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to assess, prioritize, and plan how to address NCDs and other public health threats. This paper describes the development of this tool., Materials and Methods: Driven by ministries of health, the N-CAP Process engages new and existing stakeholders in three activities: Stakeholder Mapping; Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats Workshop; and N-CAP Workshop that uses Discussion Guides to lead in-depth assessment and planning. Standard Operating Procedures, a library of Discussion Guides based on common NCD themes, and an open-access e-learning course are available., Results: The N-CAP Process outcome is a prioritized plan of how to improve the country's public health functions. Adaptations to the tool were made after piloting in Jordan and Iraq., Conclusion: The N-CAP Process helps countries engage various stakeholders to identify gaps and create collaborative, country-specific strategies to effectively respond to NCDs, a leading public health threat. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has been felt acutely in Latin America with several countries having among the highest numbers of SARS-CoV-2 cases and related deaths. Individuals living with underlying health conditions have an increased risk of severe disease or death from COVID-19. Patient advocacy organizations often provide supportive services to these individuals and can offer a unique perspective of the patient experience. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of COVID-19 on access to health services in Latin America, as reported by patient advocacy organizations representing individuals living with autoimmune, chronic, and noncommunicable diseases., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in August 2020 with patient advocacy organizations in Latin America to measure perceived effects from COVID-19 and reported access to health services among individuals living with autoimmune, chronic, and noncommunicable diseases. An original, online survey was developed and deployed in Spanish and Portuguese. Univariate and bivariate analysis was conducted across two main subject areas: perceived patient effects from COVID-19 and patient access to health services. The main outcomes of analysis considered patient access to care during COVID-19 based on type of chronic illness and geographical region in Latin America., Results: A total of 81 survey responses were analyzed. A majority (83%) of patient advocacy organizations reported their patients experienced delays receiving their treatment and care services; 52% experienced delays of 30 days or more. Telemedicine was considered available, but not accessible to patients (37%) and a majority (76%) of patients faced challenges with electronic prescriptions. Patients were not likely to receive a multi-month prescription from their doctor (38%) or successfully fill it at the pharmacy (26%)., Conclusions: According to responses from patient advocacy organizations, individuals living with noncommunicable diseases in Latin America have faced unique challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: To determine the extent to which human rights considerations influence the attitudes of healthcare providers in Brazil with regard to access to the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for females over 13 and males of all ages., Methods: From May to August 2015, we conducted a cross-sectional study among healthcare providers in eight public health clinics in the city of Mauá, Brazil. Frequency analysis was conducted across three subject areas: access, knowledge, and attitudes., Results: A total of 154 surveys were analyzed. Providers reported their perception that Brazilians do not have equal access to health (80%) and the vaccine exclusions limit an individual's right to health (72%). Providers stated it is medically effective to vaccinate females over the age of 13 (77%), these females should be vaccinated (84%), and they would vaccinate them (82%). Similar responses were reported for males., Conclusion: Cervical cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer among females in Brazil. Most cervical cancer cases are caused by persistent HPV infection, preventable through HPV vaccination. Limiting access to the HPV vaccine when medically efficacious is a perceived infringement of an individual's right to health. Objective:: to report professors' experience in a public university of Southern region of Brazil using case studies and role play as learning strategies for nursing care of hospitalized adults., Method:: learning experience report from the Nursing Care of Adults I class of nursing undergraduate course., Results: the development of case studies and role play considered health care needs from epidemiological profile of chronic noncommunicable diseases morbidity and mortality, nursing as an assisting method, and social aspects of hospitalized individuals. Role play planning was made by creating a stage in laboratory of practices and dialogues comprising students and professors interaction., Conclusion: case studies and role play encouraged students to active search for learning and brought theory closer to real health care situations.

Objective to discuss the conditions that enabled home care at the beginning of the twentieth century. Method study of the genealogic inspiration on home care. The empirical material consisted of legal documents on the subject that were published in the Official Journal. The documents were studied using analytical tools, such as Power, Discipline and Biopolitics, which were inspired in Foucault. Results two analytical categories were established, "home inspection: visiting nurses and tuberculosis" and "records: political and economic apparatus". Final considerations tuberculosis, the new profession of visiting nurses, inspection records and the detailed analysis of the cities grant home care a nature of surveillance, inspection and control to conduct the behaviour of individuals.

This research aims to identify the perception of professional members ofa multi-professional residency program on Permanent Health Education. It is a case study research using a qualitative approach, with sixteen members of a multi-professional residency program. The data were collected from January to May 2012, through semi-structured interviews, document analysis and systematic observation, and analyzed according to Thematic Content Analysis. Two categories were identified: Permanent Health Education establishing collective spaces of reflection of practices and Permanent Health Education that promotes integration between disciplines. The members of the multiprofessional residencyteam were found to be aware that permanent education permeates theirtraining and enables reflection on their clinical practices and multidisciplinary action as producers of health actions.

The study attempts to understand how dying from cancer is portrayed by five movies produced in Hollywood between 1993 and 2006. Based on the cultural studies and their post-structuralism version and supported by the notions of discourse and subjectivity, as proposed by philosopher Michel Foucault, we suggest one of the possible readings of the movie picture corpus. We assess how the movie picture discourse acts as a cultural pedagogy that produces ways of seeing dying with cancer: immortalizing the healthy body image, silencing death, taking care of the dead body and, finally, accepting death. Our proposal is intended to stimulate reflections that may contribute to care and education in nursing.

The objective of the study was translation and cross-cultural adaptation into Brazilian Portuguese of the instrument Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS-r). The ESAS-r is a revised version of the instrument ESAS that assesses nine symptoms in Palliative Care. This is a methodological study based on a benchmark composed of six steps: translation, synthesis, backtranslation, expert committee, pre-test and submission of translated version for consideration of the authors. As a result changes were made to the title, statements and certain terms to ensure adequacy of grammar and vocabulary. In the pre-test the term 'nausea' raised doubts, and an additional explanation on this word was suggested. Standardization of instrument columns and the replacement of the term 'depression' for 'sadness' was also recommended. In this study, the ESAS-r instrument was translated and adapted to Brazilian Portuguese, and the next step will be testing the psychometric properties.

This is a qualitative study with an exploratory approach, situated in the field of cultural studies, using the tool proposed by Michel Foucault for textual analysis. It aims at analyzing how discourses transmitted by the media affect subjects and institute them as organ donors. The analysis corpus was made up of articles from the Folha de São Paulo newspaper, which is considered to be the most influential in the country. These articles contain discourses that were analyzed and represent the way organ donors are recruited. The newspaper discourses are seen as culture artifacts that produce truth and influence subjects, determining possible actions that may be performed so that more transplants take place.

This article is a theoretical reflection that is part of a study named Em Defesa da Sociedade: a invenção dos Cuidados Paliativos (In Defense of Society: the invention of Palliative Care). In order to articulate this discussion, we used the 2007edition of the Palliative Care Manual published by the World Health Organization (WHO), as we understand it is part of a body of work capable of producing subjectivities and ruling conduct. In this sense, we intend to understand how the discourses on palliative care are associated and promote the invention of a new subject that would work as a bio-political strategy in order to defend society. Based on the textual analysis of the discourse presented in the manual, with the help of the Cultural Studies framework and inspired by the works of Michel Foucault, we present one of the possible meanings derived from the readings of the WHO Guide. Thus, we observe the (re)organization and (re)invention of a subject that invests in the subjectivity of individuals and constitutes an actual framework that regulates and rules the population.

Hospice Care (HC) is given to patients out of therapeutic possibilities of cure,focusing on symptoms control and life quality. The Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) is an instrument to assess and monitor nine physical and psychological symptoms in patients in HC. The study aims to perform an integrative review on the assessment of health professionals and/or patients regarding the use of ESAS in cancer patients in Hospice Care. Eight papers have been localized at Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) between 1998 and 2009. The results displayed that although there are few studies on this topic, the ESAS is a valid instrument to detect and monitor symptoms in HC, presenting some limitations. The results led to the importance of the study continuity in translation and cross-cultural adaptation of this scale to Brazilian Portuguese.

Describe the implantation of a new process of management of the nursing assistant rest scale of a hospitalization unit of a universitarian hospital. It is presented the reality before the proposal, when the rests were distributed along the week; the reasons that took to the proposition of the new method and the working of the new scale, with rests in weekends and holidays. Among the benefits already seen include: bigger number of professionals working during the days of bigger work flow; more time of leisure of the workers with their families; bigger personal integration and professional of the group; scales organized for a year, which allows the employee plan his vacation, rests and studies; and bigger satisfaction with the work, with the new scale being considered a professional conquest.

Palliative care is becoming a professional knowledge and performance field by means of the proposal of another "regimen of truths". Such fact can be observed in the broadening of palliative care services and in the increase of publications on the subject. This study aims at learning the discourses on palliative care that the nurses have conveyed in the nursing publications. For such purpose we approached the Cultural Studies, especially those inspired on Michel Foucault in order to analyze articles published in two national nursing periodicals from 1999 to 2007. Among the statements, we point out those that see the hospital as a site where the patient is divested of his individuality and identity and those that mention such care as capable of providing the family and the patient with the best quality of life possible during the death process.

We consider looking at the death and dying as a social, historical and cultural construction. Thus, in we approach them to the Cultural Studies to know nurses speeches on the subject. The research is periodic articles of two national ones of nursing. In the analyses we use tools proposals for Michel Foucault that they make possible to constitute four categories: the silenced and occulted death; stopping one it fights against the death; the death in scene: multiplicity of faces and the palliative death and cares: paradigm change. The study detaches the way as the publications operate in the production of knowing on the death and dying to them and subjectiving the nurses.

We present enunciations that circulate in the media regarding the body, discussing the ways in which the speeches related with the maintenance of health and aesthetics invest in its improvement. Therefore, we used the Caderno Vida, a weekly insert of Zero Hora, for we understand it as owner of a proper speech that has the power of subjectivate people The analysis is part of Cultural Studies and it is based on the ideas of Michel Foucault. The methodological strategy used was the speech analysis of subjects about body care. The periodical questions its readers using speeches that point to beauty health and success The constructed categories were: how is the ideal body, what to do to have such body and why we must have this body Balanced feeding, practice of regular physical activities and the accomplishment of plastic surgeries are recommendations recurrently found in weekly inserts.

This paper focuses on the scientific production of health professionals, especially nurses, about agrochemicals and human health. The essay combines and presents information by means of literature review, with a view to acknowledge the contribution of each author and their use for the human health field. Thirty-two research articles, published in Brazilian journals, were located. The analysis of these articles highlights that healthcare professionals' contributions focus on human health, especially, workers' health and food quality. With a view to minimize the effects from agrochemicals on human and environmental health, the authors exposes action suggestions both for health professionals and for the institutions associated.

Classifying means segregating. It means seeing the world as something that can be made up of different entities that could be sorted and make what has been organized into something real. Thus, the Nursing Diagnoses (ND) aims at being an archive that allows a knowledge framework to be drawn about the individuals. In this paper we intend to learn how nurses have built this documental device. So, we analysed articles published on the Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem and found out that some meanings have been attributed to ND, which allowed us to group them into five classes. We also observed that the journal's discourses assign powers to such classification, because they make this knowledge stronger by publicising it.

This article discusses the production of meanings on nurses in Hollywood films. It aimed at studying how these films have depicted nurses, and meanings are built by the stories told. The body of analysis consisted of' Hollywood films, and data were collected according to Rose. The following discourse analysis categories were identified: the nurse as the hospital normalizer, the nurse as a subordinate and low-rank professional, the nurse as villain or hero, and nursing as a feminine profession.

This study focuses the meanings and transformations of healthcare humanization along the time through a literature review. The analysis is pointed out by a reading hipothesis of Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem (REBEn) and inspired by the ideas of Michel Focault, specially his discourse concept. It was identified as discourse appering condition: the nursing professional characteristics, the association of humanization meaning to scientific knowledge and the re-affirmation of its traditional meaning related to the new health policies. As delimiting instance of discourse it is presented: nursing, government, and technology. It is also presented the sense attributed to humanization since 1970 decade until the present time.

With the purpose of placing modern nursing into focus, in this essay I go over the possible conditions for the emergence of nursing practice systems. Based on texts by Michel Foucault and identified with Cultural Studies, I reclaim fragments from nursing history in order to put back together the organization of its practice system at a given historical moment and in a hospital environment. I tell the story of some of this plot's characters in an effort to show that the past can become the product of the present, once it encompasses historical writings devised and set up by the will of its authors. I highlight modern nursing as a practice of care that becomes professional and builds its own knowledge intent on ensuring professional independence.

This research has the purpose of gaining more understanding about the actions and policies put in place in order to ensure the training of professionals that work in the services of the State Health Care System, considering the direct and intrinsic relation between the education and its final quality. Broken down into 3 perspectives, here labeled as voices, we have tried to identify, by means of the discourses on social control in the area of health, the system's administration, and education represented by the schools of nursing, what are the criticisms and propositions concerning the theme of professional training for the State Health Care System. The text deals with the terms used in the context of professional training, as well as a critical reflection about the new tendencies and paradigms that are on the agenda in current debates and discussions.

In this essay I try to show the source of the knowledge that determines a certain view that the healthcare team, particularly the nursing team, has developed on the body, especially the sick body. I understand that this knowledge determines ways of caring for the hospitalized bodies. Based on texts by Foucault I analyze the subject of Anatomy. I present a brief history of its construction as a field of knowledge since Versalius until today, when we find plastinated and digitized bodies. I highlight the cadaver as the student's first contact with a human body and observe that the illustrations contained in Anatomy books privilege male and white bodies. I characterize the body as a radically historical invention and observe that we are culturally trained to perceive it, in an organized way, from given viewpoints and by using certain lenses.

This text presents some reflections which we intend to use as subsidies for discussions stemming from the need to implement the current Curricular Guidelines in undergraduate Nursing programs in Brazil. Having as a reference authors who write from a post-critic perspective in Education, the text proposes a change in focus to address these reflections, namely, answers to questions, from certainty to doubt, from prescription to problematization. Following this line, we suggest that curricular guidelines should aim at providing references for the creation of political-pedagogical projects which articulate both with the political and social demands of the broad-based society as to local needs and interests, without attaching to or submitting to them.

This study discusses the National Curriculum Policies for professional education in technology, and its implementation in the health field, more especifically in the nursing field. The matter is approached from three different topics: 1) the contextualization of technological education, 2) the legal rationale, 3) the creation of human resources for SUS (Public Health system). As a conclusion, the study points out that the nursing professional would have his/her work even more fragmented than it already is. According to the study, this kind of education does not meet the needs of assistance in the present days, considering the complexity of problems related to it, the advancement of knowledge, and population growth.
