Abstract

Background: Peroneus longus tendon (PLT) autograft has emerged as one of the primary graft options for arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). We aimed to study whether PLT autograft could be used as primary graft for arthroscopic single bundle ACLR, without compromising stability of donor ankle. Materials and Methods: A prospective observational study of 120 patients, who underwent single bundle arthroscopic ACLR with ipsilateral PLT autograft was done. Functional outcome of patients were evaluated with international knee documentation (IKDC) and Lysholm knee scores after one year. The donor ankle morbidity was assessed using American orthopedic foot and ankle score (AOFAS) and foot and ankle disability index (FADI) scores. Results: The mean IKDC pre-op subjective score was 55.3 ± 10.7 and after one year follow-up was 91.4 ± 5.86. Abstract

Crop failure is largely caused by various climate hazards, and among them, heat stress is the primary factor hindering crop production. The significant global loss of crop yield is primarily due to heat-related damage during the reproductive phase. Terminal heat stress has been well documented in wheat, causing morphophysiological alterations, biochemical disruptions, and reduction of genetic potential. The formation of shoots and roots, the effect on the double ridge stage, and early biomass in the vegetative stage are also impacted by heat stress. The final negative outcomes of heat stress include reduced grain number and weight, slower grain filling rate, reduced grain quality, and shorter grain filling duration. Plants have developed mechanisms to adapt to heat stress through modifications in their morphological or growth responses, physiological and biochemical pathways, and changes in enzyme reactions. Numerous heat tolerance genes have been identified in wheat, but the more extensive study is needed to increase heat tolerance in crops to satisfy the food demands of the world’s growing population. The global food policy needs to prioritize and promote additional joint research and the development of heat-tolerant wheat breeding to ensure the world’s food security.

Abstract

Electronic and electrical waste (e-waste) has increased exponentially due to the humungous growth in the information technology and communication sector. Many multi-metal catalysts are developed by researchers for electronic waste plastic conversion into fuel products and recovery of valuable metals. In the present study, an Alumina-supported catalyst powder with selected transition metals metal oxides was prepared to improve the yield of hydrocarbon liquids. FESEM with energy-dispersive spectroscopy, XRD and laser diffraction particle size analysis were used to characterise catalysts. The shredded e-waste chips to catalyst weight ratio was maintained from 2:1 to 10:1 and studied. The experiments were conducted with a reaction temperature range from 300°C to 500°C. The produced fuel density was 0.88 kg/L, with 0.75 liquid fuel conversion and 71.7% overall liquid fuel yield. The light gas percentage was 4–6%. NMR analysis, bomb calorimetric study and gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy of liquid fuel analysis suggest carbon chain compounds of C3–C20 hydrocarbon, indicating a mixture of petrol and diesel-like liquid products. The catalyst can be tuned to improve liquid fuel conversion. The liquid fuel product is promising for fuel use, however, upgrading treatments are needed to meet standard product specifications. Abstract

Pond ash is a mixture of fly ash and bottom ash obtained from thermal power plants. The cement treatment of pond ash results in improved cohesion and strength gain due to cement hydration and pozzolanic reactions. The optimum moisture content (OMC) obtained from standard Proctor compaction tests on untreated and cemented pond ash is about 25%. This study investigates the sufficiency of this OMC for complete hydration of cement, especially for higher dosages, in cement stabilized pond ash systems. The degree of hydration is quantified using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and the corresponding improvement in strength is evaluated using unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests. The corresponding porosity is not measured directly, but calculated from the dry unit weight and specific gravity of the material. Three water contents (OMC-2% , OMC, and OMC+2%), five cement dosages (2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 24%) and three curing periods (7, 14, and 28 days) are adopted. The results show that the untreated pond ash did not undergo hydration reactions upon adding water due to its lower calcium content. For cement-treated pond ash, the formation of calcium silicate hydrates (C-S-H) increases with cement dosage, curing period, and water content. At intermittent curing conditions of 7 and 14 days, the C-S-H formation reached a saturation point for lower cement dosages at OMC but continued to increase with the increase in water content for 24% cemented pond ash system. For 28 days curing, the C-S-H formation reached a maximum at OMC, and a further increase in water content did not increase the C-S-H content. Here, further addition of water does not contribute to hydration and pozzolanic reactions, but water acts as a pore-filling fluid.
