Background The mortality risks of children undergoing various cardiac surgeries for congenital heart disease (CHD) in India are not well defined. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the inhospital mortality of various common CHD surgeries reported in India and compared it to representative data from established Western databases. Methods and Results We searched four bibliographic databases for studies published in India over the last 25 years. In total, 135 studies met the inclusion criteria and included 30,587 patients aged from 1 day to 65 years. The pooled mortality rate of 43 Indian studies reporting multiple CHD surgical outcomes is 5.63% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.26–7.16; I2 = 93.9%), whereas the Western data showed a pooled mortality rate of 2.65% (P value for comparison

Background: The delivery of dental treatment might be negatively impacted by a child’s unwillingness to cooperate. Judging a behavior-guiding strategy that successfully lowers fear and anxiety during dental treatment, results in a change in the child’s attitude toward the treatment, and is also accepted by the parents is necessary given the variety of behavior management strategies that are available. While conventional techniques of behavior modification have been effective, parents’ and dental professionals’ attitudes regarding them are evolving. New nonaversive approaches that are acceptable to parents are thus required. One such approach that may find favor with parents and dental professionals is music therapy. Methods: Pertinent medical databases such as PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, and Google Scholar were searched from January 1, 2001, to April 20, 2023, for randomized controlled trials and clinical studies that used music and no music (control) in children undergoing dental treatment. Primary outcomes included a decrease in pulse rate as measured through pulse oximeter in children undergoing dental treatment. Results: Through search strategy and screening through titles and abstracts, four randomized clinical trials (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation [GRADE] high certainty) and eight nonrandomized studies (GRADE high certainty) were included and the pooled results bared that the music pulse rate was significantly reduced in children who were made to listen to the music than those who did not listen to music during dental treatment. Conclusion: It was established that music distraction was a better behavior management technique as compared to no music group and instrumental music was better when compared to the nursery rhyme for anxiety reduction in children.

Abstract Stimulation of mammalian cells with inflammatory inducers such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS) leads to alterations in activity of central cellular metabolic pathways. Interestingly, these metabolic changes seem to be important for subsequent release of pro‐inflammatory cytokines. This has become particularly clear for enzymes of tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle such as succinate dehydrogenase (SDH). LPS leads to inhibition of SDH activity and accumulation of succinate to enhance the LPS‐induced formation of IL‐1β. If enzymes involved in beta‐oxidation of fatty acids are important for sufficient responses to LPS is currently not clear. Using cells from various patients with inborn long‐chain fatty acid oxidation disorders (lcFAOD), we report that disease‐causing deleterious variants of Electron Transfer Flavoprotein Dehydrogenase (ETFDH) and of Very Long Chain Acyl‐CoA Dehydrogenase (ACADVL), both cause insufficient inflammatory responses to stimulation with LPS. The insufficiencies included reduced TLR4 expression levels, impaired TLR4 signaling, and reduced or absent induction of pro‐inflammatory cytokines such as IL‐6. The insufficient responses to LPS were reproduced in cells from healthy controls by targeted loss‐of‐function of either ETFDH or ACADVL, supporting that the deleterious ETFDH and ACADVL variants cause the attenuated responses to LPS. ETFDH and ACADVL encode two distinct enzymes both involved in fatty acid beta‐oxidation, and patients with these deficiencies cannot sufficiently metabolize long‐chain fatty acids. We report that genes important for beta‐oxidation of long‐chain fatty acids are also important for inflammatory responses to an acute immunogen trigger like LPS, which may have important implications for understanding infection and other metabolic stress induced disease pathology in lcFAODs.

Using computational approaches, the potential efficacy and specificity of 1,3,4 trisubstituted pyrazole derivatives as MtInhA inhibitors which will aid in rational drug design for tubercular therapy were forecasted. QSARINS software was used to investigate the ability of compound to inhibit MtInhA. Three noteworthy descriptors with significant correlations and impressive statistical values were identified by the produced QSAR model: Correlation of coefficient(R2)= 0.8789, Cross-validation leave one out correlation coefficient (Q2LOO)= 0.8402, Cross-validation leave-many-out correlation coefficient(Q2LMO)=0.7321, Concordance Correlation Coefficient for cross-validation(CCCtr)=0.9355, CCCext =0.888. The descriptor generated by the QSAR model includes Centered Broto-Moreau autocorrelation weighted by Sanderson electronegativities (ATSC1e), Radial distribution functions at 15.0 and 2.0 Å inter-atomic distances weighted by relative van der Waals volumes (RDF150v), Radial distribution function – 145/weighted by relative I-state (RDF145s). Using these, three descriptor model was developed and the designed compounds were evaluated for their MtInhA inhibitory activity. Further, ADMET prediction and Molecular docking studies were carried out using Schrodinger's Software. ADMET prediction were used to evaluate drug likeliness and molecular docking was used to determine the interactions of designed compounds with the target protein. After the docking studies, the compounds were subjected for MM-GBSA calculations and MD simulation. Among the designed compounds, AP2 had the strongest binding affinity towards the MtInhA enzyme. The result of this work helps to understand the key interactions between 1,3,4 trisubstituted pyrazole derivatives and MtInhA protein that may be necessary to develop new lead compounds against tuberculosis.

Aim: The aim is to compare and evaluate the impact music has on anxiety in children while performing restorative procedures. Materials and Methods: Forty-five children between the ages of 4 and 12 years without any prior dental experience were recruited for the study. Forty-five children were equally divided into three groups of 15 children in each by simple random sampling. The children were allocated to the groups using the computer allocation method. Group A consisted of 15 children who were not made to hear music, Group B consisted of 15 children who heard nursery rhymes, and Group C consisted of 15 children who heard music of their own choice while undergoing restorative treatment for 40 min. Anxiety levels were assessed preoperatively and postoperatively using Venham’s picture test, and pulse rate using pulse oximeter. Results: Music of choice and nursery rhymes showed a better reduction in anxiety levels than no music, with a very high statistically significant difference (P < 0.001). Music of choice was better than nursery rhymes and no music in reducing anxiety in children. Conclusion: The music of choice was more effective in reducing anxiety when compared to the nursery rhyme group and no music group.

Background: Disseminated septicemia and endocarditis are extremely rare complications of Pasteurella infection and are mainly seen in patients with associated major comorbidities. Clinical Description: A 13-year-old boy, who had undergone surgery for congenital heart disease in early childhood, presented with prolonged fever, gross hematuria, and oliguria. The child was found to be conscious and febrile, with tachycardia, pallor, and edema. There was a systolic murmur in the left upper sternal border with hepatosplenomegaly. Management and Outcome: Routine investigations revealed anemia, low serum albumin, and progressively worsening renal functions, with urinalysis showing significant proteinuria and red cells. Serial blood cultures showed growth of Pasteurella multocida. Echocardiography showed vegetation in conduit (homograft) connecting the right ventricle with the pulmonary artery. Despite intravenous antibiotics, the clinical condition did not improve, so the conduit was removed surgically, following which the child recovered. Conclusion: This case creates awareness regarding infective endocarditis in a child being caused by a rare organism P. multocida, involving a surgically created conduit. The case also highlights the importance of timely surgical removal of the source combined with a prolonged course of antibiotics in a successful recovery.

Abstract Chronic inflammation is a major cause of cancer worldwide. Interleukin 33 (IL-33) is a critical initiator of cancer-prone chronic inflammation; however, its induction mechanism by environmental causes of chronic inflammation is unknown. Herein, we demonstrate that Toll-like receptor (TLR)3/4-TBK1-IRF3 pathway activation links environmental insults to IL-33 induction in the skin and pancreas inflammation. An FDA-approved drug library screen identifies pitavastatin to effectively suppress IL-33 expression by blocking TBK1 membrane recruitment/activation through the mevalonate pathway inhibition. Accordingly, pitavastatin prevents chronic pancreatitis and its cancer sequela in an IL-33-dependent manner. The IRF3-IL-33 axis is highly active in chronic pancreatitis and its associated pancreatic cancer in humans. Interestingly, pitavastatin use correlates with a significantly reduced risk of chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer in patients. Our findings demonstrate that blocking the TBK1-IRF3-IL-33 signaling axis suppresses cancer-prone chronic inflammation. Statins present a safe and effective prophylactic strategy to prevent chronic inflammation and its cancer sequela.

Abstract In mice, periodic cycles of a fasting mimicking diet (FMD) protect normal cells while killing damaged cells including cancer and autoimmune cells, reduce inflammation, promote multi-system regeneration, and extend longevity. Here, we performed secondary and exploratory analysis of blood samples from a randomized clinical trial (NCT02158897) and show that 3 FMD cycles in adult study participants are associated with reduced insulin resistance and other pre-diabetes markers, lower hepatic fat (as determined by magnetic resonance imaging) and increased lymphoid to myeloid ratio: an indicator of immune system age. Based on a validated measure of biological age predictive of morbidity and mortality, 3 FMD cycles were associated with a decrease of 2.5 years in median biological age, independent of weight loss. Nearly identical findings resulted from a second clinical study (NCT04150159). Together these results provide initial support for beneficial effects of the FMD on multiple cardiometabolic risk factors and biomarkers of biological age.

Abstract Heat waves, and an increased number of warm days and nights, have become more prevalent in major agricultural regions of the world. Although well adapted to semi-arid regions, cotton is vulnerable to high temperatures, particularly during flowering and boll development. To maintain lint yield potential without compromising its quality under high-temperature stress, it is essential to understand the effects of heat stress on various stages of plant growth and development, and associated tolerance mechanisms. Despite ongoing efforts to gather data on the effects of heat stress on cotton growth and development, there remains a critical gap in understanding the distinct influence of high temperatures during the day and night on cotton yield and quality. Also, identifying mechanisms and target traits that induce greater high day and night temperature tolerance is essential for breeding climate-resilient cotton for future uncertain climates. To bridge these knowledge gaps, we embarked on a rigorous and comprehensive review of published literature, delving into the impact of heat stress on cotton yields and the consequential losses in fiber quality. This review encompasses information on the effects of heat stress on growth, physiological, and biochemical responses, fertilization, cotton yield, and quality. Additionally, we discuss management options for minimizing heat stress-induced damage, and the benefits of integrating conventional and genomics-assisted breeding for developing heat-tolerant cotton cultivars. Finally, future research areas that need to be addressed to develop heat-resilient cotton are proposed.

Abstract Hydroxyapatites have been investigated since past six decades as laser host materials. Because of their important roles in bone and teeth, these have been subjects of recent investigations. Gallium and titanium have great potential for decreasing the depletion of calcium and reducing osteoporosis. The electrical properties and polarity play important roles in regeneration of the bones. We observed growth of grains in selenium‐doped gallium and titanium containing silicate hydroxyapatites. Observed morphology showed non‐facetted microstructures and it helped in achieving larger grains. For the material processed for the period of longer than 70 h, we did not observe any difference in the dielectric constant and resistivity of the selenium‐doped materials. For irradiating the materials, a Cs‐137 γ‐radiation with 5 µm curie dose was used up to 100 h. We observed that the dielectric constant and resistivity at different frequencies ranging from 100 to 100 000 Hz were affected by the high energy radiation. However, bias voltage in the range of 50–1 000 mV did no alter the dielectric constant or resistivity. This indicated that the breakdown of the material did not occur for this bias range.

Abstract Intestinal microbiota play an essential role in the health of a host organism. Here, we define how commensal Escherichia coli (E. coli) alters its host after long term exposure to glucose using a Caenorhabditis elegans-E. coli system where only the bacteria have direct contact with glucose. Our data reveal that bacterial processing of glucose results in reduced lifespan and healthspan including reduced locomotion, oxidative stress resistance, and heat stress resistance in C. elegans. With chronic exposure to glucose, E. coli exhibits growth defects and increased advanced glycation end products. These negative effects are abrogated when the E. coli is not able to process the additional glucose and by the addition of the anti-glycation compound carnosine. Physiological changes of the host C. elegans are accompanied by dysregulation of detoxifying genes including glyoxalase, glutathione-S-transferase, and superoxide dismutase. Loss of the glutathione-S-transferase, gst-4 shortens C. elegans lifespan and blunts the animal's response to a glucose fed bacterial diet. Taken together, we reveal that added dietary sugar may alter intestinal microbial E. coli to decrease lifespan and healthspan of the host and define a critical role of detoxification genes in maintaining health during a chronic high-sugar diet.

This study reviews prevailing trends in “for-profit” business-related gamification. It examines the current literature, focusing on gamification elements, industries and variables that is of interest to researchers in different business environments. A systematic mapping approach was applied to this study. Articles were selected from different databases in a two-step screening process, subject to sets of inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 25 articles were further for: (1) represented industries, (2) orientation of the gamified system, (3) types of implementation, (4) gamification elements analysed, (5) impact on companies, and (6) company variables analysed. Results confirmed that the number of empirical studies on gamification in for-profit organisations is growing. Researchers have placed greater emphasis on analysing customer-related gamification environments than on employee-oriented gamification. This finding is consistent with the prevailing trend of increasing demand from practitioners to gamify customer-related processes. This is likely due to the potential for higher positive impact on the performance of companies. Most frequently deployed gamification elements are badges, rewards, and leader boards. The literature suggests that over all, gamification has a positive effect on various company variables, such as motivation, engagement of employees, brand loyalty, and customer experience. This paper highlights the particular areas of business-related gamification that have already been examined and possible future directions.

Platelets are small, anucleated effector cells that play an important role in linking the hemostatic and inflammatory processes in the body. Platelet function is known to be altered under various inflammatory conditions including aging. A gain in platelet function during aging can increase the risk of thrombotic events, such as stroke and acute myocardial infarction. Anti-platelet therapy is designed to reduce risk of serious cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events, but the adverse consequences of therapy, such as risk for bleeding increases with aging as well. Age-associated comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia also contribute to increased platelet activity and thus can enhance the risk of thrombosis. Therefore, identification of unique mechanisms of platelet dysfunction in aging and in age-associated comorbidities is warranted to design novel antiplatelet drugs. This review outlines some of the current areas of research on aging-related mechanisms of platelet hyperactivity and addresses the clinical urgency for designing anti-platelet therapies toward novel molecular targets in the aging population.

Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is an oncological emergency characterized by a classic tetrad of hyperuricemia, hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia, and hypocalcemia. Risk assessment and prophylactic therapy is critical in preventing this oncological emergency. Treatment of established TLS involves aggressive hydration, electrolyte management, and the use of hypouricemic agents.

Indoor production of bedding plant seedlings using sole-source radiation may present value in increasing uniformity and consistency compared with greenhouse production. However, information on physiological acclimation related to growth and photosynthesis in seedlings exposed to high-intensity blue radiation and elevated CO2 is limited. Seedlings of petunia (Petunia ×hybrida) ‘Dreams Midnight’ were exposed to red (peak = 660 nm):blue (peak = 451 nm) radiation ratios of 50:50 (R50:B50) or 90:10 (R90:B10) and radiation intensities of 150 or 300 µmol·m−2·s–1 under two CO2 regimes of 450 or 900 µmol·mol–1. Shoot dry mass (SDM), leaf area index (LAI), internode length, and whole-plant photosynthesis and light-use efficiency (LUE) responses to increasing radiation intensity were measured. In addition, leaf photosynthetic rate (A) was measured at ambient and supra-optimal CO2 concentrations for plants grown under 450 µmol·mol–1 CO2. Our results indicated growth (based on SDM, LAI, and internode length) was lowered for seedlings produced under R50:B50 compared with R90:B10. However, we observed an increase in whole-plant light-saturated photosynthesis (Ag,max) and whole-plant light saturation point (LSP) under R50:B50 compared with R90:B10. In addition, we observed lower LUE below and higher LUE above a radiation intensity of 500 µmol·m−2·s–1 in seedlings grown under R50:B50 compared with R90:B10. Based on our results, seedling growth was lowered under a high proportion of blue radiation mainly due to lower radiation interception (due to lower LAI and shorter internode length) and LUE of intercepted radiation at the intensities used. Higher Ag,max and LSP in R50:B50 compared with R90:B10 under higher radiation intensities was likely in part due to higher LUE. Further investigation revealed A was higher at both optimal and supra-optimal CO2 concentrations under R50:B50 compared with R90:B10, indicating a lack of stomatal effects of a higher proportion of blue radiation on carboxylation and LUE. We hypothesize that higher LUE in R50:B50 compared with R90:B10 under higher radiation intensities is due to improved photochemical quenching from increased biosynthesis of carotenoids and anthocyanins. The results from our study generated fundamental information on growth and photosynthetic responses to excess blue radiation, data that can be further used in optimizing plant production in controlled environments.

Introduction: A number of guidelines are available for management of congenital heart diseases from infancy to adult life. However, these guidelines are for patients living in high-income countries. Separate guidelines, applicable to Indian children, are required when recommending an intervention for congenital heart diseases, as often these patients present late in the course of the disease and may have co-existing morbidities and malnutrition. Process: Guidelines emerged following expert deliberations at the National Consensus Meeting on Management of Congenital Heart Diseases in India, held on the 10th and 11th of August, 2018 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Objectives: The aim of the study was to frame evidence-based guidelines for (i) indications and optimal timing of intervention in common congenital heart diseases and (ii) follow-up protocols for patients who have undergone cardiac surgery/catheter interventions for congenital heart diseases. Recommendations: Evidence-based recommendations are provided for indications and timing of intervention in common congenital heart diseases, including left-to-right shunts, obstructive lesions, and cyanotic congenital heart diseases. Summary: The novel coronavirus disease 2019 has had a major impact on human life and livelihood. The unprecedented challenges have expanded beyond just social and work life, and have grown to impact resident education. In this article, we review the structure of plastic surgery education before the pandemic, the different online learning opportunities for self-directed learning. A summary of the range of platforms and approaches of online remote access delivery of conferences and education that emerged or expanded as a result of the crisis has been reported. This article highlighted the rapid initiatives and efforts of programs and national and international societies to support continuing medical education in conjunction with the guidelines to “shelter at home” and maintain social distancing, and possible future for expanding the reach of online academic initiatives, in addition to the role of developing virtual technologies. The coronavirus disease 2019 crisis has created an opportunity to analyze and advance online learning options to overcome the associated challenges and continue as a reliable platform even following the resolution of the social distancing requirements.

Abstract Background Following acute myocardial infarction (AMI), microvascular integrity and function may be compromised as a result of microvascular obstruction (MVO) and vasodilator dysfunction. It has been observed that both infarcted and remote myocardial territories may exhibit impaired myocardial blood flow (MBF) patterns associated with an abnormal vasodilator response. Arterial spin labeled (ASL) CMR is a novel non-contrast technique that can quantitatively measure MBF. This study investigates the feasibility of ASL-CMR to assess MVO and vasodilator response in swine. Methods Thirty-one swine were included in this study. Resting ASL-CMR was performed on 24 healthy swine (baseline group). A subset of 13 swine from the baseline group underwent stress ASL-CMR to assess vasodilator response. Fifteen swine were subjected to a 90-min left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery occlusion followed by reperfusion. Resting ASL-CMR was performed post-AMI at 1–2 days (N = 9, of which 6 were from the baseline group), 1–2 weeks (N = 8, of which 4 were from the day 1–2 group), and 4 weeks (N = 4, of which 2 were from the week 1–2 group). Resting first-pass CMR and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) were performed post-AMI for reference. Results At rest, regional MBF and physiological noise measured from ASL-CMR were 1.08 ± 0.62 and 0.15 ± 0.10 ml/g/min, respectively. Regional MBF increased to 1.47 ± 0.62 ml/g/min with dipyridamole vasodilation (P 0.60). Conclusions ASL-CMR can assess vasodilator response in healthy swine and detect significant reduction in regional MBF at rest following AMI. ASL-CMR is an alternative to gadolinium-based techniques for assessment of MVO and microvascular integrity within infarcted, as well as salvageable and remote myocardium. This has the potential to provide early indications of adverse remodeling processes post-ischemia.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an aggressive primary liver cancer. However, its origin remains a debated question. Using human data and various hepatocarcinogenesis mouse models, we show that, in early stages, transformed hepatocytes, independent of their proliferation status, activate hepatic progenitor cell (HPC) expansion. Genetic lineage tracing of HPCs and hepatocytes reveals that, in all models, HCC originates from hepatocytes. However, whereas in various models tumors do not emanate from HPCs, tracking of progenitors in a model mimicking human hepatocarcinogenesis indicates that HPCs can generate benign lesions (regenerative nodules and adenomas) and aggressive HCCs. Mechanistically, galectin-3 and α-ketoglutarate paracrine signals emanating from oncogene-expressing hepatocytes instruct HPCs toward HCCs. α-Ketoglutarate preserves an HPC undifferentiated state, and galectin-3 maintains HPC stemness, expansion, and aggressiveness. Pharmacological or genetic blockage of galectin-3 reduces HCC, and its expression in human HCC correlates with poor survival. Our findings may have clinical implications for liver regeneration and HCC therapy. : Tummala et al. demonstrate that hepatocytes and hepatic progenitor cells participate in liver tumor heterogeneity. Malignant hepatocytes crosstalk and activate the neighboring progenitor cells through releases of galectin-3 and α-ketoglutarate. Blocking galectin-3 reduces hepatocarcinogenesis and may have important clinical implications. A comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying eyebrow aging is vital in allowing plastic surgeons to appropriately address these age-related changes and to recreate an aesthetically desirable outcome for patients seeking brow rejuvenation. The aim of this study is to summarize the current literature on eyebrow height changes with aging. Methods:. A comprehensive search was conducted across several databases to identify all published studies that reported changes of eyebrow position or height with aging, from 1946 to January 2019. Studies that reported eyebrow position at the level of medial canthus, mid-pupil, and lateral canthus were included in a meta-analysis. Results:. A total of 346 articles were initially identified, of which 19 met our inclusion criteria. Of 3,634 patients who were identified, 2,237 (64%) were females and 1,274 (36%) were males. Eyebrow height showed significant increase with aging at the level of medial canthus (mean difference 1.4 mm; 95% CI: 0.22–2.59; P = 0.02), and the level of mid-pupil (mean difference 1.17 mm; 95% CI: 0.54–1.8; P = 0.0002). However, no significant difference was found at the level of lateral canthus (mean difference 0.19 mm; 95% CI: −0.87 to 1.25; P = 0.72). Conclusions:. Based on the reviewed literature to date, the medial eyebrow height increases with age, whereas it remains stable at the level of the lateral canthus. These results should be considered when considering eyebrow rejuvenation.

With increased globalization of trade and business in a knowledge-based economy, and increasing diversification of the workforce, there is increasing pressure on multinational companies to report, and even measure, their social capital. This article explores the role of language in the creation of corporate social capital. The language used in a corporation is an asset, which creates value and corporate social capital in the use and exchange of ideas. Linguists have long attempted to assess the value of language as a commodity, but with little success. This article offers an approach to overcome this difficulty and to measure the value of language as an element of corporate social capital. To do so, it draws an analogy between the functions of language and functions of currency. The article goes on to suggest that multinational corporations should hold a portfolio of language skills, much as it does a portfolio of currencies.

The present study was designed to evaluate the antioxidant potential of three natural origin drugs, namely crocin, kaempferol and podophyllotoxin by chemical, biochemical and electrochemical assays. The chemical assay was carried out by DPPH and reducing power assays while the biochemical assay evaluated the lipid peroxidation inhibition capacity, using brain cells as models; the electrochemical characterization was performed by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry using multi-walled carbon nanotube paste electrode (MWCNTPE) in 0.02 M acetate buffer (pH 4.5). The superoxide radical scavenging activity was performed at dropping mercury electrode (DME) in 0.1 M KCl. All the species proved to have antioxidant activity, and particularly, by the electrochemical techniques, it has been shown that these drugs showed scavenging ability on superoxide anion produced by electrochemical reduction of oxygen. The highest scavenging property of crocin may be due to the hydroxyl and glucose moieties that could provide the necessary component as a radical scavenger.

Education in its essential meaning should beget a civilized and socio-emotionally intelligent, competent mindset in its stakeholders. However, this seems an ideal situation which is impractical owing to several conditions and constraints that impede the implementation of holistic education. Pedagogical practices initially relied on rote learning and thereafter several reforms in educational policies asserted the importance of nurturing global competency among the learners. However, this shift from rote learning to a more self-directed learning is a challenging transformation which is idealized to a great extent. In this article, we argue that a sudden shift may not be possible, and to realize learner autonomy and their self-directedness, there should be a gradual but steady progress from pedagogy to andragogy and then to heutagogy. Self-directedness and learner-centredness are the crucial aspects of heutagogy. Taking examples from a case study that we conducted with teachers of English from select higher education institutions in India, we analysed the various tenets of heutagogy and its practicality in the Indian context. We investigated how teachers are incorporating aspects of heutagogy in their English classrooms and what major challenges are encountered. Their individual classroom episodes may serve as an initial reservoir of ideas to orient further research in the field. The possibility of embedding the PAH continuum in classrooms is analysed through the lens of socio-constructivist theory. The insights from this study will be valuable for teachers and students who wish to gain a deeper insight into the heutagogical learning paradigm and its integration into language teaching in the classroom.

Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) has been used to develop an electro-analytical procedure for the determination of flutamide and evaluate its interaction with DNA immobilised on the carbon paste electrode (CPE) surface. In 0.3 M phosphate buffer (pH 7.0 ± 0.01) as supporting electrolyte flutamide produced a well defined DPV peak at Ep = −0.75 V vs. SCE. The DPV study on the DNA–flutamide interaction clearly demonstrated that flutamide interacts preferentially with adenine and guanine groups in DNA. Thus, enabling to assign mechanism of action of the anticancer drug, flutamide. The developed method was successfully applied to the determination of flutamide in pharmaceutical formulations. The work has been supplemented by UV spectral study.
