In this paper, a novel structure of self-voltage balanced switched-capacitor-based seven-level inverter (SVB-SCSLI) is proposed for asymmetrical input energy source applications. SVB-SCSLI develops a seven-level staircase waveform with a minimum number of semiconductor devices compared to existing multilevel inverters (MLIs). The proposed converter is more suitable for the solar PV system where unequal DC voltage sources are available. The SVB-SCSLI also resolves the main difficulty of connecting many inverters in parallel to achieve staircase voltage. Besides, it attains voltage balancing capability at DC-link by holding constant capacitor voltage at every cycle. The detailed loss and steady-state analysis of the SVB-SCSLI are examined. Furthermore, the proposed converter's efficiency improves with better power quality than other topologies reported in the literature. Most emerging applications of battery energy storage systems, fuel cells, and unified power supply (UPS) applications require essential bi‐directional power capability with a high conversion ratio. It supports the integration of the high‐voltage DC‐bus with an energy storage unit or fuel cell. In order to meet this requirement, this paper proposes a novel nonisolated high‐gain DC‐DC converter with bi‐directional power flow capability. This converter is configured with a hybrid structure with a combination of the switched capacitor (SC) and switched inductor (SI) techniques. Moreover, this converter can attain extreme voltage gain with less number of semiconductors and passive components. As a result, the converter cost gets reduced and achieves a wide range of voltage gain at a lesser duty ratio. Furthermore, steady‐state analysis and performance of the proposed topology and its characteristics were presented in this paper. Additionally, a detailed comparative analysis was presented with the most recent literature. Finally, a 500‐W experimental prototype has been fabricated to authorize the performance, feasibility, and analytical waveforms with experimental results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dynamic voltage instability is one of the major issues faced by grid-connected renewable energy systems due to fluctuations in the generation and sudden variation in the loads. The primary objective of this paper is to propose a method for constant power consumption from the grid to maintain a stable DC-link voltage during peak and nonpeak hours. It can be achieved by implementing an optimized active power management (OAPM) scheme between the photovoltaic (PV) and the grid by enabling a battery energy storage system (BESS). The intelligent constant power balance (ICPB) algorithm and detailed control strategies for dual active bridge (DAB) isolated DC–DC converter and grid-connected voltage source inverter (VSI) are discussed in this paper. Moreover, the high-gain step-up DC–DC converter (HSDC) is utilized to perform maximum power point tracking (MPPT) operation and to meet the required DC-link voltage. The accuracy of power transmission of DAB gets improved by imposing a curve-fitting interpolation (CFI) approach, thereby maintaining a constant DC-link voltage. Furthermore, an instantaneous sinusoidal current control (ISCC) scheme assures the feeding of active power with better power quality. The measured results are obtained and verified under different dynamic conditions of load and generation. Based on the validation, we conclude that the proposed OAPM scheme is most suitable for grid-connected renewable energy systems in the rural electrified microgrid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
