Hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) for ankylosing spondylarthritis was employed in Kuibyshev Medical Institute for 10 years. The response was registered in 94.4% ot 142 patients treated as shown by positive changes in external respiration, performance status, electromyographic, laboratory, biochemical and immunological findings.

An analysis of clinical observations (126 patients) enabled the authors to make a conclusion that early diagnostics and early operative treatment are important for better results of treatment of patients with injuries of humeral biceps tendons . Differentiated approach to treatment of such patients is thought by the authors to be necessary. The method of choice for treatment of patients with neglected injuries of the humeral biceps tendons is, to the authors' opinion, "tonicizing" autologous tendoplasty.

On the basis of voluminous clinical material (218 patients) the authors consider the peculiarities of diagnosis and treatment of victims with Achilles tendon damages. The authors pay special attention to the thorough clinical investigation of patients, indicate the importance of early diagnosis and opportune operative treatment. The authors present the basic principles of surgical tactics which ensure correct approach to the selection of operative treatment in case of Achilles tendon rupture. There are analyzed long-term results of treatment of 161 patients with Achilles tendon injuries.

The authors believe that the means and methods of the restorative treatment as well as the technique of their application should be dependent on the character of injuries, their severity, period of the disease and individual features of the patient. In the complex treatment of multiple and associated traumas it is expedient to use the HBO-therapy which decreases the tissue hypoxia and stimulates reparative processes.

The method of treatment with the application of compression-distraction apparatus is described. An analysis of remote results of the treatment of 57 patients is given.

The authors analyse their many-year experience gained in the treatment of patients with foot deformities of various origins, carried out at the traumatology clinic of the Kuibyshev D. I. Ulyanov Medical Institute. New surgical techniques for the treatment of congenital talipes, valgus deformity of the first thumb combined with transverse platypodia, paralytic loose, paralytic pes planus and calcaneus are described. The causes of valgus deformities in the patients with infantile cerebral paralysis after achillotomy are discussed on the basis of EMG data. The described methods are superior to the routine ones.
