Microwave interferometric methods aid the research on shocked porous ball powders, and demonstrate reflection and absorption variations in the microwave signal. Development of the hot spot at the shock front probably causes these variations. The hot spots are computed to a first order by incorporating metal particles in unreacting beds and by evaluating their influence on microwave propagation.
