In the experimental conditions the use of homogenized fruits and vegetables mashed potatoes with the addition of the water-extracted apple-pectin Classic AF-702 as a protector of a toxic action of xenobiotic for the conservation of reproductive ability of the organism and the optimum development of posterity.

Complex medical, statistic, hygienic and pathophysiologic study proved occurrence of psychic disorders including asthenic and depression states to be possibly determined by ecologic factors. Pathogenesis of asthenic and depression states involves "revision" of relationships in "hypothalamus-hypophysis complex-epiphysis" system due to changes in secretion by specific neurons.

The authors examined magnetic goods production and specified its technologic sites associated with higher risk of gynecologic diseases and female endocrine imbalance. Scientific work helped to identify a hypothesis on mechanisms underlying influence of magnetic field, major occupational hazard in magnetic goods production, on reproductive disorders.

Epidemiologic studies helped to disclose peculiarities of thyroid diseases prevalence in several districts of Rostov Province. High prevalence of thyroid diseases appeared to be proportional to degree of anthropogenic accumulation of industrial waste in the area. Intensity of the prevalence was independent on iodine deficiency. The materials collected prove technogenic factors to play an important role in development of thyroid diseases, so the prophylactics should consider not only correction of iodine intake.

It has been noticed that the morphofunctional organization of the thyroid gland is similar in representatives of two different classes of vertebrates: in fishes and in rats. Exposure of experimental animals to ecological factors with increased lead levels was followed by a phase response (activation, depression) of various structural elements of the thyroid gland. Obvious differences in morphofunctional mechanisms of adaptation to chemical stress factors in fishes and rats were found. A possible relationship is discussed between the environmental pollution with heavy metals and the increased incidence of thyroid gland disease in human population.

The authors studied possible use of screening cytogenetic methods calculating micronuclei in frog blood cells to indicate degree of environmental pollution and its danger for human health. The data correlate with higher incidence of reproductive disorders in the females and of congenital abnormalities in the children, who live in regions with higher microelements level in soil subjected to the cytogenetic studies. Biogeochemical screening study evaluating ecological situation by means of test-objects to be informative.

Problems of ecology do not affect nations individually. Similarly, scientists must participate in seeking solutions to ecologic problems regardless of State borders. The sophistication of certain demographic indices, primarily those of infant and maternal mortality and of population reproduction, is a barometer of a nation's socioeconomic status and the quality of medical care. Solutions to practical problems in the field of public health are based on scientific research conducted on various problems. A task of urgent priority in Russia is to solve the problems of maintaining health, particularly reproductive, and preventing health disorders. It is the generation of the 1980s and 1990s that faces the basic difficulties of reestablishing the Russian State. We offer for our colleagues' discussion the basic directions of scientific research planned in the Russian Federation to find points of contact with respect to this problem within the framework of possible cooperation.

This paper reports results of clinical and experimental studies which sought to validate endonasal laser treatment for prevention of dysfunctional labor in late toxemia. Electrophysiologic and histochemical studies showed stimulating effects of the helium-neon laser treatment on function of large cell hypothalamic nuclei and uterine contractility. Clinical efficiency of this treatment was seen as a lower incidence of dysfunctional labor and cesarean section.

A comparative study was made of the biological activity of red (632.8 nm) and violet (430.5 nm) laser radiation with respect to the reproductive system status of exposed animals. Distinctions were noted in the response of the biological system to the applied effects. Possible mechanisms of the processes observed are discussed.

An experimental study in pregnant rats has demonstrated an obvious effect of endonasal, vaginal and epigastric application of the helium-neon laser on histophysiologic characteristics of the hypothalamo-neuropituitary neurosecretory system, the epiphysis and the myometrium. Therefore, the exposure to the laser beam, particularly the endonasal one may enhance the cervical-hypothalamic reflex.

The paper presents data of clinical and laboratory investigations performed in patients with vulvar leukoplakia or kraurosis before and after the helium-neon laser therapy. The impairment of adrenal performance (related to glucocorticoid, androgenic or mineralocorticoid functions) has been identified in the examinees. Employment of the laser therapy has normalized the impaired functions and beneficially affected local dystrophic processes in vulvar tissues. Local application of aerosol corticoid agents prolongs the response to the therapy.
