1. Electron vortex beams for chirality probing at the nanoscale

Abstract: In this work we propose a method for probing the chirality of nanoscale electromagnetic near fields utilizing the properties of a coherent superposition of free-electron vortex states in electron microscopes. Electron beams optically modulated into vortices carry orbital angular momentum, thanks to which they are sensitive to the spatial phase distribution and topology of the investigated field. The sense of chirality of the studied specimen can be extracted from the spectra of the electron beam with nanoscale precision owing to the short picometer de Broglie wavelength of the electron beam. We present a detailed case study of the interaction of a coherent superposition of electron vortex states and the optical near field of a golden nanosphere illuminated by circularly polarized light as an example, and we examine the chirality sensitivity of electron vortex beams on intrinsically chiral plasmonic nanoantennae.

2. A low-temperature synthesis of strongly thermochromic W and Sr co-doped VO2 films with a low transition temperature

Abstract: The reversible semiconductor-to-metal transition of vanadium dioxide (VO2) makes VO2-based coatings a promising candidate for thermochromic smart windows, reducing the energy consumption of buildings. We report low-temperature (320 degC) depositions of thermochromic V1-x-yWxSryO2 films with a thickness of 71-73 nm onto 170-175 nm thick Y-stabilized ZrO2 layers on a 1 mm thick conventional soda-lime glass. The developed deposition technique is based on reactive high-power impulse magnetron sputtering with a pulsed O2 flow feedback control allowing us to prepare crystalline W and Sr co-doped VO2 films of the required stoichiometry without any substrate bias or post-deposition annealing. The W doping of VO2 decreases the transition temperature below 25 degC, while the Sr doping of VO2 increases the integral luminous transmittance, Tlum, significantly due to widening of the visible-range optical band gap, which is consistent with lowering of the absorption coefficient of films. We present the discussion of the effect of the Sr content in the metal sublattice of VO2 on the electronic and crystal structure of V1-x-yWxSryO2 films, and on their temperature-dependent optical and electrical properties. An optimized V0.855W0.018Sr0.127O2 film exhibits a high Tlum = 56.8% and modulation of the solar energy transmittance deltaTsol = 8.3%, which are 1.50 times and 1.28 times, respectively, higher compared with those of the V0.984W0.016O2 film. The achieved results constitute an important step toward a low-temperature synthesis of large-area thermochromic VO2-based coatings for future smart-window applications, as it is easy to further increase the Tlum and deltaTsol by >6% and >3%, respectively, using a 280 nm thick top SiO2 antireflection layer.

Abstract: We present the results of a search for gravitational-wave transients associated with core-collapse supernova SN 2023ixf, which was observed in the galaxy Messier 101 via optical emission on 2023 May 19th, during the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA 15th Engineering Run. We define a five-day on-source window during which an accompanying gravitational-wave signal may have occurred. No gravitational waves have been identified in data when at least two gravitational-wave observatories were operating, which covered $\sim 14\%$ of this five-day window. We report the search detection efficiency for various possible gravitational-wave emission models. Considering the distance to M101 (6.7 Mpc), we derive constraints on the gravitational-wave emission mechanism of core-collapse supernovae across a broad frequency spectrum, ranging from 50 Hz to 2 kHz where we assume the GW emission occurred when coincident data are available in the on-source window. Considering an ellipsoid model for a rotating proto-neutron star, our search is sensitive to gravitational-wave energy $1 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2$ and luminosity $4 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2/\text{s}$ for a source emitting at 50 Hz. These constraints are around an order of magnitude more stringent than those obtained so far with gravitational-wave data. The constraint on the ellipticity of the proto-neutron star that is formed is as low as $1.04$, at frequencies above $1200$ Hz, surpassing results from SN 2019ejj., Comment: Main paper: 6 pages, 4 figures and 1 table. Abstract: The magnetar SGR 1935+2154 is the only known Galactic source of fast radio bursts (FRBs). FRBs from SGR 1935+2154 were first detected by CHIME/FRB and STARE2 in 2020 April, after the conclusion of the LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA Collaborations' O3 observing run. Here we analyze four periods of gravitational wave (GW) data from the GEO600 detector coincident with four periods of FRB activity detected by CHIME/FRB, as well as X-ray glitches and X-ray bursts detected by NICER and NuSTAR close to the time of one of the FRBs. We do not detect any significant GW emission from any of the events. Instead, using a short-duration GW search (for bursts $\leq$ 1 s) we derive 50\% (90\%) upper limits of $10^{48}$ ($10^{49}$) erg for GWs at 300 Hz and $10^{49}$ ($10^{50}$) erg at 2 kHz, and constrain the GW-to-radio energy ratio to $\leq 10^{14} - 10^{16}$. We also derive upper limits from a long-duration search for bursts with durations between 1 and 10 s. Abstract: Radiomics is a relatively new field which utilises automatically identified features from radiological scans. It has found a widespread application, particularly in oncology because many of the important oncological biomarkers are not visible to the naked eye. The recent advent of big data, including in medical imaging, and the development of new ML techniques brought the possibility of faster and more accurate oncological diagnosis. Furthermore, standardised mathematical feature extraction based on radiomics helps to eliminate possible radiologist bias. This paper reviews the recent development in the oncological use of MRI radiomic features. It focuses on the identification of the isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation status, which is an important biomarker for the diagnosis of glioblastoma and grade IV astrocytoma., Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure

6. forester: A Tree-Based AutoML Tool in R

Abstract: The majority of automated machine learning (AutoML) solutions are developed in Python, however a large percentage of data scientists are associated with the R language. Unfortunately, there are limited R solutions available. Moreover high entry level means they are not accessible to everyone, due to required knowledge about machine learning (ML). To fill this gap, we present the forester package, which offers ease of use regardless of the user's proficiency in the area of machine learning. The forester is an open-source AutoML package implemented in R designed for training high-quality tree-based models on tabular data. It fully supports binary and multiclass classification, regression, and partially survival analysis tasks. With just a few functions, the user is capable of detecting issues regarding the data quality, preparing the preprocessing pipeline, training and tuning tree-based models, evaluating the results, and creating the report for further analysis.

7. Variability of thermal subthreshold retinal laser treatment plans.

Abstract: To investigate the variability in subthreshold laser treatment plans for patients with diabetic macular edema or central serous chorioretinopathy. Diagnostic images from 20 patients were utilized, and 25 retina specialists generated subthreshold treatment plans along with a self-rated experience level. Evaluation comprised of i) Area Variability (AV): quantifies the consensus regarding the covered area and is the difference between the areas planned by 75% and 25% of the participants ii) mean Centroid Distance (CD): level of agreement on the localization of a treatment. Subgroup analysis investigated the impact of participants experience levels, utilizing the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon test. The predominant plan style is a targeted treatment approach (92%) and avoidance of subfoveal region (89%). Mean CD is 71.0 ± 37.5 pixels (≈half disc diameter) and mean AV is 9.8%±8.9%. A slight difference is observed between the 50-75% areas, but a notable distinction exists between the 25-50% areas. Subgroup analysis revealed CD and AV value of 75.9 pixels and 24% in the lower experience level group as opposed to 55.9 pixels and 8.6% in the higher experience level group. There is significant variability in treatment planning which reduces with increased experience of retina specialists. While consensus is observed around focal points, differences in the surrounding extents persist.

Abstract: We present results from a search for X-ray/gamma-ray counterparts of gravitational-wave (GW) candidates from the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) network using the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (Swift-BAT). The search includes 636 GW candidates received in low latency, 86 of which have been confirmed by the offline analysis and included in the third cumulative Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalogs (GWTC-3). Targeted searches were carried out on the entire GW sample using the maximum--likelihood NITRATES pipeline on the BAT data made available via the GUANO infrastructure. We do not detect any significant electromagnetic emission that is temporally and spatially coincident with any of the GW candidates. We report flux upper limits in the 15-350 keV band as a function of sky position for all the catalog candidates. For GW candidates where the Swift-BAT false alarm rate is less than 10$^{-3}$ Hz, we compute the GW--BAT joint false alarm rate. Finally, the derived Swift-BAT upper limits are used to infer constraints on the putative electromagnetic emission associated with binary black hole mergers., Comment: 50 pages, 10 figures, 4 tables

9. Effect of magnetic field configuration on double layer formation and reverse discharge ignition in bipolar HiPIMS

Abstract: The reverse discharge (RD) phenomenon in bipolar HiPIMS has been observed when a sufficiently long positive pulse is applied to the magnetron. Due to the magnetic field, electrons accumulated behind the magnetic trap are prevented from reaching the positive target. Consequently, a space charge double layer (DL) is formed between the positive target and the plasma behind the magnetic trap, leading to electron acceleration across the DL and RD ignition. This study reveals the significant impact of the magnetic field configuration on RD ignition. Experiments are performed using a Ti target involving magnetic field variation, wire probe measurements of floating potential, and optical emission spectroscopy imaging. It is found that adjusting the magnetic field to a more balanced configuration leads to earlier RD ignition, while a more unbalanced one delays or even prevents it. Specifically, the time of RD ignition decreases with an increase in the magnetic null point distance from the target. Moreover, the size and shape of optical emission in the RD varies with nearby probe placement, suggesting sensitivity to external electrodes.

10. Updating Windows Malware Detectors: Balancing Robustness and Regression against Adversarial EXEmples

Abstract: Adversarial EXEmples are carefully-perturbed programs tailored to evade machine learning Windows malware detectors, with an on-going effort in developing robust models able to address detection effectiveness. However, even if robust models can prevent the majority of EXEmples, to maintain predictive power over time, models are fine-tuned to newer threats, leading either to partial updates or time-consuming retraining from scratch. Thus, even if the robustness against attacks is higher, the new models might suffer a regression in performance by misclassifying threats that were previously correctly detected. For these reasons, we study the trade-off between accuracy and regression when updating Windows malware detectors, by proposing EXE-scanner, a plugin that can be chained to existing detectors to promptly stop EXEmples without causing regression. We empirically show that previously-proposed hardening techniques suffer a regression of accuracy when updating non-robust models. On the contrary, we show that EXE-scanner exhibits comparable performance to robust models without regression of accuracy, and we show how to properly chain it after the base classifier to obtain the best performance without the need of costly retraining. 11. Enhancement of hole mobility in high-rate reactively sputtered Cu2O thin films induced by laser thermal annealing

Abstract: In presented work, a reactive high-power impulse magnetron sputtering (r-HiPIMS) was used for high-rate deposition ( 170 nm/min) of Cu2O films. Films were deposited on a standard soda-lime glass (SLG) substrate at a temperature of 190C. As-deposited films exhibit poor hole mobility in the orders of 1 cm2/Vs. We have systematically studied the effect of laser thermal annealing (LTA) procedure performed using high-power infrared laser under different laser parameters (number of pulses, length of the pulse). We have found, LTA procedure could significantly enhance the hole mobility (up to 24 cm2/Vs in our case). We have also fitted the results of a temperature-dependent Hall measurement to clarify the mechanism of the reported increase in hole mobility. Moreover, we have discussed the effect of the LTA procedure on microstructure (crystallinity, surface morphology) and on the value of optical band gap.

Abstract: We report the observation of a coalescing compact binary with component masses $2.5\text{-}4.5~M_\odot$ and $1.2\text{-}2.0~M_\odot$ (all measurements quoted at the 90% credible level). The gravitational-wave signal GW230529_181500 was observed during the fourth observing run of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA detector network on 2023 May 29 by the LIGO Livingston Observatory. The primary component of the source has a mass less than $5~M_\odot$ at 99% credibility. We cannot definitively determine from gravitational-wave data alone whether either component of the source is a neutron star or a black hole. However, given existing estimates of the maximum neutron star mass, we find the most probable interpretation of the source to be the coalescence of a neutron star with a black hole that has a mass between the most massive neutron stars and the least massive black holes observed in the Galaxy. We provisionally estimate a merger rate density of $55^{+127}_{-47}~\text{Gpc}^{-3}\,\text{yr}^{-1}$ for compact binary coalescences with properties similar to the source of GW230529_181500; assuming that the source is a neutron star-black hole merger, GW230529_181500-like sources constitute about 60% of the total merger rate inferred for neutron star-black hole coalescences. 13. On double-layer and reverse discharge creation during long positive voltage pulses in a bipolar HiPIMS discharge

Abstract: Time-resolved Langmuir probe diagnostics at the discharge centerline and at three distances from the target (35mm, 60mm, and 100mm) was carried out during long positive voltage pulses (a duration of 500$\mu$s and a preset positive voltage of 100V) in bipolar High-Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering of a Ti target (a diameter of 100mm) using an unbalanced magnetron. Fast-camera spectroscopy imaging recorded light emission from Ar and Ti atoms and singly charged ions during positive voltage pulses. It was found that during the long positive voltage pulse, the floating and the plasma potentials suddenly decrease, which is accompanied by the presence of anode light located on the discharge centerline between the target center and the magnetic null of the magnetron's magnetic field. These light patterns are related to the ignition of a reverse discharge, which leads to the subsequent rise in the plasma and the floating potentials. The reversed discharge is burning up to the end of the positive voltage pulse, but the plasma and floating potentials have lower values than the values from the initial part of the positive voltage pulse. Secondary electron emission induced by the impinging Ar$^+$ ions to the grounded surfaces in the vicinity of the discharge plasma together with the mirror configuration of the magnetron magnetic field are identified as the probable causes of the charge double-layer structure formation in front of the target and the ignition of the reverse discharge.

14. Deciphering AutoML Ensembles: cattleia's Assistance in Decision-Making

Abstract: In many applications, model ensembling proves to be better than a single predictive model. Hence, it is the most common post-processing technique in Automated Machine Learning (AutoML). The most popular frameworks use ensembles at the expense of reducing the interpretability of the final models. In our work, we propose cattleia - an application that deciphers the ensembles for regression, multiclass, and binary classification tasks. This tool works with models built by three AutoML packages: auto-sklearn, AutoGluon, and FLAML. The given ensemble is analyzed from different perspectives. We conduct a predictive performance investigation through evaluation metrics of the ensemble and its component models. We extend the validation perspective by introducing new measures to assess the diversity and complementarity of the model predictions. Moreover, we apply explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques to examine the importance of variables. Summarizing obtained insights, we can investigate and adjust the weights with a modification tool to tune the ensemble in the desired way. The application provides the aforementioned aspects through dedicated interactive visualizations, making it accessible to a diverse audience. We believe the cattleia can support users in decision-making and deepen the comprehension of AutoML frameworks.

15. Rethinking of Encoder-based Warm-start Methods in Hyperparameter Optimization

Abstract: Effectively representing heterogeneous tabular datasets for meta-learning purposes remains an open problem. Previous approaches rely on predefined meta-features, for example, statistical measures or landmarkers. The emergence of dataset encoders opens new possibilities for the extraction of meta-features because they do not involve any handmade design. Moreover, they are proven to generate dataset representations with desired spatial properties. In this research, we evaluate an encoder-based approach to one of the most established meta-tasks - warm-starting of the Bayesian Hyperparameter Optimization. To broaden our analysis we introduce a new approach for representation learning on tabular data based on [Tomoharu Iwata and Atsutoshi Kumagai. Meta-learning from Tasks with Heterogeneous Attribute Spaces. In Advances in Neural Information Processing Systems, 2020]. The validation on over 100 datasets from UCI and an independent metaMIMIC set of datasets highlights the nuanced challenges in representation learning. We show that general representations may not suffice for some meta-tasks where requirements are not explicitly considered during extraction.

Abstract: Among the various candidates for dark matter (DM), ultralight vector DM can be probed by laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors through the measurement of oscillating length changes in the arm cavities. In this context, KAGRA has a unique feature due to differing compositions of its mirrors, enhancing the signal of vector DM in the length change in the auxiliary channels. Here we present the result of a search for $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson DM using the KAGRA data from auxiliary length channels during the first joint observation run together with GEO600. Abstract: Narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxies are a peculiar subclass of active galactic nuclei (AGN). Among them, TXS 1206+549 belongs to a small group of radio-loud and gamma-ray-emitting NLS1 galaxies. We focus on the radio properties of this galaxy by analysing archival, high-resolution, very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) imaging observations taken at 8 GHz frequency in six epochs between 1994 and 2018. Using the milliarcsecond-scale radio structure, we can resolve a core and a jet component whose angular separation increases by (0.055 +/- 0.006) mas/yr. This corresponds to an apparent superluminal jet component motion of (3.5 +/- 0.4) c. From the core brightness temperature and the jet component proper motion, we determine the characteristic Doppler-boosting factor, the bulk Lorentz factor, and the jet viewing angle. We find no compelling evidence for a very closely aligned blazar-type jet. Abstract: Controlling the electron dynamics in matter by individual oscillations of light fields has recently led to the development of attosecond metrology. One of the phenomena resulting from the nonlinear response of materials in the strong-field interaction regime is coherent emission of high energy photons. High harmonic spectra carry the fingerprints of sub-cycle electronic motion and the energy structure of the studied system. Here we show that tailoring the waveform of the driving light by using a coherent combination with its third harmonic frequency allows to control the electron tunneling time within each half-cycle of the fundamental wave with attosecond precision. We introduce an experimental scheme in which we simultaneously monitor the modulation of amplitude and emission delays of high harmonic radiation and the excited electron population generated in crystalline silicon as a function of the relative phase between the {\omega}-3{\omega} fields. The results reveal unambiguously the connection between the dynamics of electron tunneling and high harmonic generation processes in solids.

Abstract: The little pocket mouse, Perognathus longimembris, and its nine congeners are small heteromyid rodents found in arid and seasonally arid regions of Western North America. The genus is characterized by behavioral and physiological adaptations to dry and often harsh environments, including nocturnality, seasonal torpor, food caching, enhanced osmoregulation, and a well-developed sense of hearing. Here we present a genome assembly of Perognathus longimembris longimembris generated from PacBio HiFi long read and Omni-C chromatin-proximity sequencing as part of the California Conservation Genomics Project. The assembly has a length of 2.35 Gb, contig N50 of 11.6 Mb, scaffold N50 of 73.2 Mb, and includes 93.8% of the BUSCO Glires genes. Interspersed repetitive elements constitute 41.2% of the genome. A comparison with the highly endangered Pacific pocket mouse, P. l. pacificus, reveals broad synteny. These new resources will enable studies of local adaptation, genetic diversity, and conservation of threatened taxa.

Abstract: Dercas nina Mell 1913 (Pieridae) is a little-studied butterfly species endemic to China that flies primarily in the forest canopy. Genome skimming by Illumina sequencing allowed assembly of 146,702 reads for complete 1471.3-fold mean coverage of the circular 15,264 bp mitogenome from D. nina consisting of 82.1% AT nucleotides. A gene order typical of butterflies was recovered consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, two rRNAs, and a predicted control region. The Dercas nina COX1 open reading frame begins with atypical start codon CGA. Six protein-coding genes (COX1, COX2, ND2, ND3, ND4, ND5) with single-nucleotide (T) stop codons, and two protein-coding genes (ATP6, ATP8) with two-nucleotide (TA) stop codons encoded in the DNA were inferred to be completed by adenine nucleotides from the Poly-A tail of the mRNA. Bayesian’s phylogenetic reconstruction places the D. nina and D. lycorias mitogenomes as sister clades. Dercas mitogenomes were sister to those from genus Colias in the monophyletic subfamily Coliadinae. The mitogenome phylogeny is consistent with previous molecular phylogenetic hypotheses based on other markers, but differs somewhat from a morphology-based hypothesis that suggested that Dercas was more closely related to genus Gonepteryx. This may falsify the hypothesis or may instead reflect mitochondrial-nuclear phylogenetic discordance.

A retrospective cross-sectional study analyzed 2D vascular en-face OCTA images from Heidelberg Spectralis (1478 samples: 1102 training, 276 validation, 100 testing) and Optovue Solix (1003 samples: 754 training, 189 validation, 60 testing). OCTA scans were labeled based on clinical diagnoses and adjacent B-scan OCT fluid information, categorizing activity into normal, dry AMD, active wet AMD, and wet AMD in remission. Experiments explored cross-instrument disease classification using separate and combined datasets for training the DNN. Testing involved 100 Heidelberg and 60 Optovue samples. Training on Heidelberg data alone yielded 73% accuracy on Heidelberg images and 60% on Optovue images. Training on Optovue data alone resulted in 34% accuracy on Heidelberg and 85% on Optovue images. Combined training data from both instruments achieved 78% accuracy on Heidelberg and 76% on Optovue test sets. Results indicate that cross-instrument classifier training demonstrates high classification prediction accuracy, making cross-instrument training viable for future clinical applications. This implies that vascular morphology in OCTA can predict disease progression.

Abstract: This study focused on the synthesis and purification of nano-sized titanium carbide (TiC) particles through vacuum carbothermal reduction under a hydrogen/argon atmosphere. The process involved the production of carbon-coated titanium precursors, followed by heating under vacuum conditions at 1500 °C for 2.5 h. The resulting products underwent additional treatment in either a hydrogen/argon (1:1) mixed gas or pure hydrogen gas. Experimental findings revealed that TiC powders exhibiting a single phase are obtained within a molar ratio of Ti to C ranging from 1:2 to 1:4. Adjusting the molar ratio of Ti/C in the precursors allowed for controlled variation in the particle size of the synthesized TiC powders, ranging from 50 to 80 nm. Treatment in hydrogen/argon mixed gas at 850 °C for 3 h resulted in TiC products with an impressive purity of 99.40%. The subsequent incorporation of 5% Nano-TiC-3 (Ti to C ranging from 1:3) as reinforcement into an aluminum alloy by Friction stir process technique demonstrated a remarkable 19.41% improvement in tensile strength, highlighting the efficacy of this specific reinforcement. The nano-TiC-3 reinforced composite exhibited uniform distribution without porosity. Additionally, a notable 50.81% improvement in hardness and the best wear resistance were observed for the 5% Nano-TiC-3 reinforced aluminum composite. This comprehensive study contributes valuable insights into the synthesis, purification, and application of nano-sized TiC particles, paving the way for the development of high-performance aluminum-based composites with enhanced mechanical and tribological properties.

Abstract: Abstract In healthy vision, bright slow-motion stimuli are processed primarily by the regions of the visual system that receive input from the central part of the scene, whereas processing of dark fast-motion stimuli is more dependent on peripheral visual input. We tested 31 retinitis pigmentosa (RP) patients with long-term loss of peripheral photoreceptors and healthy controls with temporarily limited peripheral vision. We measured motion-based acuity using random-dot kinematograms, establishing individual thresholds for differentiating a circle from an ellipse. Participants subsequently performed a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) task set at a constant level of difficulty. The results showed that limiting vision did not affect motion-acuity thresholds in control participants but did cause different brain activations than those in RP patients, indicating prompt implementation of the strategy that would be perceptually successful. Compared with controls with both full and limited vision, impaired motion acuity in RP patients led to decreased brain activation, particularly in the primary peripheral visual areas V1-3. Importantly, compared with controls in full vision, matched decreased activation in MT+/V5, salience-processing cortices and the superior temporal cortex were detected in RP patients and in controls with limited peripheral vision, revealing brain networks that compensate for the loss of peripheral vision.

Abstract: Background and Study Aim. Respiratory function in women aged 45-50 often declines due to natural physiological changes associated with aging. These changes include reduced lung elasticity, decreased diaphragm efficiency, and a general reduction in physical activity. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of a combined yoga and Pilates program on respiratory function in women aged 45-50. Material and Methods. The study involved 38 women with an average age of 47.7 ± 2.5 years. A pedagogical experiment was conducted over six months. The experimental group (n=19) participated in a training regimen focused on improving respiratory function through a combination of yoga and Pilates. The control group (n=19) followed a yoga-based training program. Both groups completed an equal number of sessions—72 in total. The external respiratory function of the participants was assessed using spirometry at two key points: at the beginning of the study and after six months. Results. The comparison of respiratory function indicators between the experimental and control groups after 6 months of training revealed significant differences across most parameters. The actual value of Vital Capacity was significantly greater in the experimental group compared to the control group by 0.17 L (p < 0.01), forced vital capacity by 0.30 L (p < 0.01), forced expiratory volume by 0.19 L (p < 0.01), peak expiratory flow by 0.23 L/sec (p < 0.01), maximum expiratory flow at 25% of Forced Vital Capacity by 0.96 L/sec (p < 0.001), maximum expiratory flow at 50% of Forced Vital Capacity by 0.59 L/sec (p < 0.001), expiratory reserve volume by 0.47 L (p < 0.001), and maximal voluntary ventilation by 17.00 L/min (p < 0.001). Conclusions. The combined Yoga and Pilates training regimen was more effective in improving external respiratory function than Yoga alone. This result highlights the benefits of an integrated approach to respiratory health for women aged 45-50. The study demonstrates the potential advantages of combining different types of exercise to counteract age-related declines in respiratory function. Such programs could play a significant role in promoting overall well-being in this age group.

The clinical presentation of HDBSCC includes severe recurrent hemorrhages involving the brain parenchyma and the ventricles beginning in utero and continuing in infancy together with dense central cataracts present at birth. This comprehensive review documents reported cases on this unique condition and describes its genetic, neuroradiologic and ophthalmic features. It should be included in the differential diagnosis of children with congenital cataracts and neurodevelopmental abnormalities. Abstract: Abstract Open research data refer to publicly available scientific information that can be accessed free of charge, usually provided by public data sources. Users must comply with specific requirements set by the institutions providing the data and always acknowledge the source of the data when processing, transmitting, storing or publishing it. One of the tasks of the BrineRIS project is the mapping of brine resources, requiring reliable data on the location of exploration facilities, environmental characteristics, brine exploitation parameters and formal and legal information. These data come from a review of various archives, databases and survey results. Initially, information on the location of the sources should be obtained, which may be available in publicly accessible databases. Next, geological and hydrogeological parameters, which can be obtained from scientific papers and reports, are useful. An important part of the project is also the analysis of legal regulations concerning water extraction and environmental protection. Therefore, data should be obtained from various sources, such as public administration, state institutions or research units. These will serve to develop the database needed to perform further analyses within the BrineRIS research project. It is therefore crucial to carefully collect, analyse and assess the usefulness of the data.

44. Acceptance Times of Bibliometric Analyses on COVID-19 Literature

Abstract: The present study aims to analyze the acceptance times of scientific papers presenting bibliometric analyses of COVID-19 literature published in the first phase of the pandemic. We collected the data from the Web of Science of Clarivate Analytics. The analysis considered various aspects of the papers and the published journals, such as document type, impact factor (IF) quartile rank of journals, and journal indexation. An initial search yielded 149 papers, 91 of which were selected for further analysis after excluding editorial materials and articles unrelated to COVID-19 and bibliometrics. We should have collected the required submission history information for fourteen of the 91 papers. The analysis revealed that acceptance times of bibliometric analyses on COVID-19 literature ranged between 1 and 238 days, with a median of 47 and a mean of 66.4 days. Most papers had shorter acceptance times than the mean, with only a few documents being accepted after a long wait. Journals without IF had lower acceptance times than those with IF, whereas journals with an IF between 2 and 2.99 had the most extended acceptance times; similarly, second- and fourth-quartile journals had a shorter acceptance time for papers than first- and third-quartile journals. Journals indexed in ESCI accepted documents in less time than journals indexed in other databases. In conclusion, scientific journals joined the rush to publish COVID-19-related research, as they shortened acceptance times for bibliometric analyses on COVID-19 literature published during the first phase of the pandemic compared to the period before the pandemic.

46. Variability of thermal subthreshold retinal laser treatment plans

Abstract: Abstract To investigate the variability in subthreshold laser treatment plans for patients with diabetic macular edema or central serous chorioretinopathy. Diagnostic images from 20 patients were utilized, and 25 retina specialists generated subthreshold treatment plans along with a self-rated experience level. Evaluation comprised of i) Area Variability (AV): quantifies the consensus regarding the covered area and is the difference between the areas planned by 75% and 25% of the participants ii) mean Centroid Distance (CD): level of agreement on the localization of a treatment. Subgroup analysis investigated the impact of participants’ experience levels, utilizing the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon test. The predominant plan style is a targeted treatment approach (92%) and avoidance of subfoveal region (89%). Mean CD is 71.0 ± 37.5 pixels (≈half disc diameter) and mean AV is 9.8%±8.9%. A slight difference is observed between the 50-75% areas, but a notable distinction exists between the 25-50% areas. Subgroup analysis revealed CD and AV value of 75.9 pixels and 24% in the lower experience level group as opposed to 55.9 pixels and 8.6% in the higher experience level group. There is significant variability in treatment planning which reduces with increased experience of retina specialists. While consensus is observed around focal points, differences in the surrounding extents persist.

47. Hypoxia and Foxn1 alter the proteomic signature of dermal fibroblasts to redirect scarless wound healing to scar-forming skin wound healing in Foxn1−/− mice

Abstract: Abstract Background Foxn1−/− deficient mice are a rare model of regenerative skin wound healing among mammals. In wounded skin, the transcription factor Foxn1 interacting with hypoxia-regulated factors affects re-epithelialization, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and dermal white adipose tissue (dWAT) reestablishment and is thus a factor regulating scar-forming/reparative healing. Here, we hypothesized that transcriptional crosstalk between Foxn1 and Hif-1α controls the switch from scarless (regenerative) to scar-present (reparative) skin wound healing. To verify this hypothesis, we examined (i) the effect of hypoxia/normoxia and Foxn1 signalling on the proteomic signature of Foxn1−/− (regenerative) dermal fibroblasts (DFs) and then (ii) explored the effect of Hif-1α or Foxn1/Hif-1α introduced by a lentiviral (LV) delivery vector to injured skin of regenerative Foxn1−/− mice with particular attention to the remodelling phase of healing. Results We showed that hypoxic conditions and Foxn1 stimulation modified the proteome of Foxn1−/− DFs. Hypoxic conditions upregulated DF protein profiles, particularly those related to extracellular matrix (ECM) composition: plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (Pai-1), Sdc4, Plod2, Plod1, Lox, Loxl2, Itga2, Vldlr, Ftl1, Vegfa, Hmox1, Fth1, and F3. We found that Pai-1 was stimulated by hypoxic conditions in regenerative Foxn1−/− DFs but was released by DFs to the culture media exclusively upon hypoxia and Foxn1 stimulation. We also found higher levels of Pai-1 protein in DFs isolated from Foxn1+/+ mice (reparative/scar-forming) than in DFs isolated from Foxn1−/− (regenerative/scarless) mice and triggered by injury increase in Foxn1 and Pai-1 protein in the skin of mice with active Foxn1 (Foxn1+/+ mice). Then, we demonstrated that the introduction of Foxn1 and Hif-1α via lentiviral injection into the wounded skin of regenerative Foxn1−/− mice activates reparative/scar-forming healing by increasing the wounded skin area and decreasing hyaluronic acid deposition and the collagen type III to I ratio. We also identified a stimulatory effect of LV-Foxn1 + LV-Hif-1α injection in the wounded skin of Foxn1−/− mice on Pai-1 protein levels. Conclusions The present data highlight the effect of hypoxia and Foxn1 on the protein profile and functionality of regenerative Foxn1−/− DFs and demonstrate that the introduction of Foxn1 and Hif-1α into the wounded skin of regenerative Foxn1−/− mice activates reparative/scar-forming healing.

48. A Study on the Effects of Cold Deformation on CMnSi Steel Structures Utilised in the Shipbuilding Industry

Abstract: This article analyses the effects of deformation on the structure of CMnSi steel at various deformation levels. After hot forging, the structure of CMnSi steel comprises coarse-sized alpha and pearlite particles. The average grain size of steel after forging was 100 μm. After hot rolling, the grain size gradually decreases, with the average size of the ferrite and pearlite grains measured as 60 μm. After that, CMnSi steel was subjected to cold deformation at levels of 40%, 60%, and 80%. The grain size of the CMnSi steel sample after 80% cold deformation reached level 7, corresponding to about 25 μm. For a deformation level of 40%, the grain size was level 5, corresponding to 40 μm, while a deformation level of 60% produced a grain size of 35 μm, corresponding to level 6. In addition, scanning electron microscopy showed that after 80% deformation, smaller particles with a size of about 5 μm appear inside the parent particles. Moreover, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis revealed the carbide appearance in the form M23C6, with M being a mixture of Fe and Mn. These carbides have a fine size of about 1–2 μm and contribute to the prevention of particle growth during subsequent heat treatments.

49. The Comparison of Brief, Online Mindfulness and Relaxation Interventions to Reduce Stress and Improve Sleep-Related Outcomes in College Students

Abstract: Objective: The current study aimed to examine whether brief online stress reduction exercises supplemented with sleep improvement strategies would reduce stress, arousal, and sleep difficulties in college students who were not required to use the sleep improvement strategies for participation. Participants: A sample of 114 college student participants were enrolled because they were experiencing stress and/or wanted to improve their sleep. Methods: Participants were randomized into an abbreviated progressive muscle relaxation, a mindful breathing, or a self-monitoring control condition for the 4-week intervention. Measures of physical relaxation, mindfulness, perceived stress, pre-sleep arousal, and insomnia symptom severity were collected. Results: The APMR group improved on five of the six dependent measures and was significantly different than the SM group at posttest, but not different than the MB group. Conclusion: The results suggests promise for brief, online, scaled back stress reduction interventions to reduce stress, arousal, and sleep difficulties in college students.

50. Comparing Rapid Type Analysis with Points-To Analysis in GraalVM Native Image

Abstract: Whole-program analysis is an essential technique that enables advanced compiler optimizations. An important example of such a method is points-to analysis used by ahead-of-time (AOT) compilers to discover program elements (classes, methods, fields) used on at least one program path. GraalVM Native Image uses a points-to analysis to optimize Java applications, which is a time-consuming step of the build. We explore how much the analysis time can be improved by replacing the points-to analysis with a rapid type analysis (RTA), which computes reachable elements faster by allowing more imprecision. We propose several extensions of previous approaches to RTA: making it parallel, incremental, and supporting heap snapshotting. We present an extensive experimental evaluation of the effects of using RTA instead of points-to analysis, in which RTA allowed us to reduce the analysis time for Spring Petclinic, a popular demo application of the Spring framework, by 64% and the overall build time by 35% at the cost of increasing the image size due to the imprecision by 15%.
