The assumption that the Standard Model is an Effective Field Theory (SM EFT) of a more fundamental theory at a higher, than electroweak, energy scale, implies a growth of cross-sections for electroweak Vector Boson Scattering (VBS) processes signalling the appearance of a resonance (or resonances) nearby that scale. In this article, we investigate in detail SM EFT effects from dimension-6 operators in VBS with like-sign-$W$ production in fully leptonic decay modes at the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). We find that these effects are important for a handful of operators, most notably for the operator composed of three $SU(2)$ field strength tensors responsible for strong transversely polarized vector boson interactions. We argue that in models with several high scales; e.g. in composite Higgs models or in gauge extensions of the Standard Model (SM), vector-like leptons can be likely produced in a relatively large $\sqrt{s}$ region of the phase space. Likewise, they can easily decay into final states not containing SM gauge bosons. This contrasts with the topology in which these new particles are being searched for at the LHC. Adopting an effective field theory approach, we show that searches for excited leptons must be used instead to test this scenario. We derive bounds on all the relevant interactions of dimension six; the most constrained ones being of about $0.05$ TeV$^{-2}$. In this work the vector boson scattering process is investigated through the reaction $pp\rightarrow 2 \mathrm{jets} + W^\ast W^\ast \rightarrow 2 \mathrm{jets} + l\nu_l l'\nu_l'$, where $W^\ast$ denote in general off-shell $W^+$, in the EFT approach with the HL-LHC and HE-LHC experiments in mind. We have investigated the discovery potential of certain classes of the EFT "models" of both the SMEFT and HEFT bases with the particular emphasis on using the EFT "models" in their region of validity. A novel method has been proposed for determining the discovery regions of physics beyond the SM, described by the EFT "models". Independent of the basis chosen, the discovery regions are found to be non-empty. We then compare differences in experimental signatures between SMEFT and HEFT, which is an important step for distinguishing between the two hypotheses in the future data. We investigate the Beyond Standard Model discovery potential in the framework of the Effective Field Theory (EFT) for the same-sign $WW$ scattering process in purely leptonic $W$ decay modes at the High-Luminosity and High-Energy phases of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The goal of this paper is to examine the applicability of the EFT approach, with one dimension-8 operator varied at a time, to describe a hypothetical new physics signal in the $WWWW$ quartic coupling. In the considered process there is no experimental handle on the $WW$ invariant mass, and it has previously been shown that the discovery potential at 14 TeV is rather slim. In this paper we report the results calculated for a 27 TeV machine and compare them with the discovery potential obtained at 14 TeV. We find that while the respective discovery regions shift to lower values of the Wilson coefficients, the overall discovery potential of this procedure does not get significantly larger with a higher beam energy., Comment: 21 pages, published version plus typo corrected in the Acknowledgments

It is possible that measurements of vector boson scattering (VBS) at the LHC will reveal disagreement with Standard Model predictions, but no new particles will be observed directly. The task is then to learn as much as possible about the new physics from a VBS analysis carried within the framework of the Effective Field Theory (EFT). In this paper we discuss issues related to the correct usage of the EFT when the WW invariant mass is not directly accessible experimentally, as in purely leptonic W decay channels.
