We present direct local-probe evidence for strongly hybridized nuclear-electronic spin states of an Ising ferromagnet LiHoF$_4$ in a transverse magnetic field. The nuclear-electronic states are addressed via a magnetic resonance in the GHz frequency range using coplanar resonators and a vector network analyzer. The magnetic resonance spectrum is successfully traced over the entire field-temperature phase diagram, which is remarkably well reproduced by mean-field calculations. Our method can be directly applied to a broad class of materials containing rare-earth ions for probing the substantially mixed nature of the nuclear and electronic moments., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

We report ac susceptibility, specific heat, and neutron scattering measurements on a dipolar-coupled antiferromagnet LiYbF$_4$. For the thermal transition, the order-parameter critical exponent is found to be 0.20(1) and the specific-heat critical exponent -0.25(1). The exponents agree with the 2D XY/h$_4$ universality class despite the lack of apparent two-dimensionality in the structure. The order-parameter exponent for the quantum phase transitions is found to be 0.35(1) corresponding to (2+1)D. These results are in line with those found for LiErF$_4$ which has the same crystal structure, but largely different T$_N$, crystal field environment and hyperfine interactions. Our results therefore experimentally establish that the dimensional reduction is universal to quantum dipolar antiferromagnets on a distorted diamond lattice., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

In this paper, we consider context-awareness to enhance route reliability and robustness in multi-hop cognitive networks. A novel context-aware route discovery protocol is presented to enable secondary users to select the route according to their QoS requirements. The protocol facilitates adjacent relay selection under different criteria, such as shortest available path, route reliability and relay reputation. New routing and security-based metrics are defined to measure route robustness in spatial, frequency and temporal domains. Secure throughput, defined as the percentage of traffic not being intercepted in the network, is provided. The resources needed for trading are then obtained by jointly optimizing secure throughput and trading price. Simulation results show that when there is a traffic imbalance of factor 4 between the primary and secondary networks, 4 channels are needed to achieve 90% link reliability and 99% secure throughput in the secondary network. Besides, when relay reputation varies from 0.5 to 0.9, a 20% variation in the required resources is observed., Comment: 7 pages

We present a systematic study of the crystal field interactions in the Li$R$F$_4$, $R$ = Gd, Ho, Er, Tm and Yb, family of rare-earth magnets. Using detailed inelastic neutron scattering measurements we have been able to quantify the transition energies and wavefunctions for each system. This allows us to quantitatively describe the high-temperature susceptibility measurements for the series of materials and make predictions based on a mean-field approach for the low-temperature thermal and quantum phase transitions. We show that coupling between crystal field and phonon states leads to lineshape broadening in LiTmF$_4$ and level splitting in LiYbF$_4$. Furthermore, using high resolution neutron scattering from LiHoF$_4$, we find anomalous broadening of crystal-field excitations which we attribute to magnetoelastic coupling., Comment: 16 pages, 12 figures

We present a study of the model spin-glass LiHo$_{0.5}$Er$_{0.5}$F$_4$ using simultaneous AC susceptibility, magnetization and magnetocaloric effect measurements along with small angle neutron scattering (SANS) at sub-Kelvin temperatures. All measured bulk quantities reveal hysteretic behavior when the field is applied along the crystallographic c axis. Furthermore avalanche-like relaxation is observed in a static field after ramping from the zero-field-cooled state up to $200 - 300$ Oe. SANS measurements are employed to track the microscopic spin reconfiguration throughout both the hysteresis loop and the related relaxation. Comparing the SANS data to inhomogeneous mean-field calculations performed on a box of one million unit cells provides a real-space picture of the spin configuration. We discover that the avalanche is being driven by released Zeeman energy, which heats the sample and creates positive feedback, continuing the avalanche. The combination of SANS and mean-field simulations reveal that the conventional distribution of cluster sizes is replaced by one with a depletion of intermediate cluster sizes for much of the hysteresis loop., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Electric-field-dependent pulse measurements are reported in the charge-ordered state of alpha-(BEDT-TTF)2I3. At low electric fields up to about 50 V/cm only negligible deviations from Ohmic behavior can be identified with no threshold field. At larger electric fields and up to about 100 V/cm a reproducible negative differential resistance is observed with a significant change in shape of the measured resistivity in time. These changes critically depend whether constant voltage or constant current is applied to the single crystal. At high enough electric fields the resistance displays a dramatic drop down to metallic values and relaxes subsequently in a single-exponential manner to its low-field steady-state value. We argue that such an electric-field induced negative differential resistance and switching to transient states are fingerprints of cooperative domain-wall dynamics inherent to two-dimensional bond-charge density wave with ferroelectric-like nature., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, resubmitted to Phys. - Abstract
A surge in diverse novel network services is being driven by the 4th Industrial revolution and by a number of new Internet of Things (IoT) use cases. With the emergence of 5G mobile broadband, Network Slicing (NS) has been recognized as a solution for service diversification. It enables network operators to create service-aware logical networks customized for different vertical industries, which have diverse requirements in terms of functionality, performance and resource separation. Provisioning of end-to-end delay-critical communication across multiple network domains is one of the key requirements for enabling future services. In addition, due to the decreasing size of end devices, a number of use cases depend on reliable and latency constrained computational offloading. The extension of the cloud computing concept into edge computing, located in the access network, is another key technological trend that enables reductions in latency, costs, and security risks. This thesis proposes novel resource allocation mechanisms for network traffic with strict latency limitations. First, a multi-domain network slicing framework is designed, based on a novel multipath multihop delay model. This framework encompasses a novel hierarchical orchestration mechanism and a mechanism for dynamic slice resizing. Next, the problem of latency limited on-demand computational tasks offloading to Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) and cloud servers is considered. The offloading decision and resource allocation problem is formulated as a joint optimization of communication and computation resources. Then, low complexity heuristic algorithms are proposed with the aim to minimize the total resource consumption of the system. Optimal solution-based, reinforcement learning-based resource allocation algorithms are proposed to efficiently handle latency limited tasks and tasks with extremely low latency requirements. - Abstract
The novel concept of factory-as-a-service (FaaS) allows the agility of adapting the manufacturing process by identifying the industry’s supply chain and user requirements. To cater to FaaS, flexibility in networking and cloud services is a must. 5G network slice broker (NSB) is a third-party mediator that caters to networking resource demand from clients to the service providers. Thus, this article introduces a secure blockchain-based NSB to facilitate FaaS. The proposed secure NSB (SNSB) provides secure, cognitive, and distributed network services for resource allocation and security service level agreement (SSLA) formation with coordination of slice managers and SSLA managers. In SNSB, we introduce a federated slice selection algorithm with Stackelberg game model and reinforcement learning algorithm to compute the real time and the optimal unit price and demand level. We provide an extensive implementation and performance evaluation of SNSB using the slice manager and a custom SSLA manager.

- Abstract
According to World Health Organization (WHO), the worldwide prevalence of chronic diseases increases fast and new threats, such as Covid-19 pandemic, continue to emerge, while the aging population continues decaying the dependency ratio. These challenges will cause a huge pressure on the efficacy and cost-efficiency of healthcare systems worldwide. Thanks to the emerging technologies, such as novel medical imaging and monitoring instrumentation, and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), more accurate and versatile patient data than ever is available for medical use. To transform the technology advancements into better outcome and improved efficiency of healthcare, seamless interoperation of the underlying key technologies needs to be ensured. Novel IoT and communication technologies, edge computing and virtualization have a major role in this transformation. In this article, we explore the combined use of these technologies for managing complex tasks of connecting patients, personnel, hospital systems, electronic health records and medical instrumentation. We summarize our joint effort of four recent scientific articles that together demonstrate the potential of the edge-cloud continuum as the base approach for providing efficient and secure distributed e-health and e-welfare services. Finally, we provide an outlook for future research needs.

PURPOSE As cancer surgery restarts after the first COVID-19 wave, health care providers urgently require data to determine where elective surgery is best performed. This study aimed to determine whether COVID-19–free surgical pathways were associated with lower postoperative pulmonary complication rates compared with hospitals with no defined pathway. PATIENTS AND METHODS This international, multicenter cohort study included patients who underwent elective surgery for 10 solid cancer types without preoperative suspicion of SARS-CoV-2. Participating hospitals included patients from local emergence of SARS-CoV-2 until April 19, 2020. At the time of surgery, hospitals were defined as having a COVID-19–free surgical pathway (complete segregation of the operating theater, critical care, and inpatient ward areas) or no defined pathway (incomplete or no segregation, areas shared with patients with COVID-19). The primary outcome was 30-day postoperative pulmonary complications (pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, unexpected ventilation). RESULTS Of 9,171 patients from 447 hospitals in 55 countries, 2,481 were operated on in COVID-19–free surgical pathways. Patients who underwent surgery within COVID-19–free surgical pathways were younger with fewer comorbidities than those in hospitals with no defined pathway but with similar proportions of major surgery. After adjustment, pulmonary complication rates were lower with COVID-19–free surgical pathways (2.2% v 4.9%; adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.62; 95% CI, 0.44 to 0.86). This was consistent in sensitivity analyses for low-risk patients (American Society of Anesthesiologists grade 1/2), propensity score–matched models, and patients with negative SARS-CoV-2 preoperative tests. The postoperative SARS-CoV-2 infection rate was also lower in COVID-19–free surgical pathways (2.1% v 3.6%; aOR, 0.53; 95% CI, 0.36 to 0.76). CONCLUSION Within available resources, dedicated COVID-19–free surgical pathways should be established to provide safe elective cancer surgery during current and before future SARS-CoV-2 outbreaks.

Edge Computing is a novel computing paradigm moving server resources closer to end-devices. In the context of IoT, Edge Computing is a centric technology for enabling reliable, context-aware and low-latency services for several application areas such as smart healthcare, smart industry and smart cities. In our previous work, we have proposed a three-tier IoT Edge architecture and a virtual decentralized service platform based on lightweight microservices, called nanoservices, running on it. Together, these proposals form a basis for virtualizing the available local computational capacity and utilizing it to provide localized resource-efficient IoT services based on the applications’ need. Furthermore, locally-deployed functions are resilient to access network problems and can limit the propagation of sensitive user data for improved privacy. In this paper, we propose an automatic service and resource discovery mechanism for efficient on-the-fly deployment of nanoservices on local IoT nodes. As use case, we have selected a healthcare remote monitoring scenario, which requires high service reliability and availability in a highly dynamic environment. Based on the selected use case, we propose a real-world prototype implementation of the proposed mechanism on Raspberry Pi platform. We evaluate the performance and resource-efficiency of the proposed resource matching function with two alternative deployment approaches: containerized and non-containerized deployment. The results show that the containerized deployment is more resource-efficient, while the resource discovery and matching process takes approximately 6–17 seconds, where containerization adds only 1–1.5 seconds. This can be considered a feasible price for streamlined service management, scalability, resource-efficiency and fault-tolerance.

- Abstract
Effective, long-lasting Industrial IoT (IIoT) solutions start with short-term gains and progressively mature with added capabilities and value. The heterogeneous nature of IIoT devices and services suggests frequent changes in resource requirements for different services, applications, and use cases. With such unpredictability, resource orchestration can be quite complicated even in basic use cases and almost impossible to handle in some extensively dynamic use cases. In this paper, we propose SDRM; an SDN-enabled Resource Management scheme. This novel orchestration methodology automatically computes the optimal resource allocation for different IIoT network models and dynamically adjust assigned resources based on predefined constraints to ensure Service Level Agreement (SLA). The proposed approach models resource allocation as a Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) where optimality is based on the solution of a predefined Satisfiability (SAT) problem. This model supports centralized management of all resources using a software defined approach. Such resources include memory, power, bandwidth, and edge-cloud resources. SDRM aims at accelerating efficient resource orchestration through dynamic workload balancing and edge-cloud resource utilization, thereby reducing the cost of IIoT system deployment and improving the overall ROI for adopting IIoT solutions. We model our resource allocation approach on SAVILE ROW using ESSENSE PRIME modeling language, we then implement the network model on CloudSimSDN and PureEdgeSim. We present a detailed analysis of the system architecture and the key technologies of the model. We finally demonstrate the efficiency of the model by presenting experimental results from a prototype system. Our test results show an extremely low solver time ranging from 0.47 ms to 0.5 ms for nodes ranging from 100 to 500 nodes. With edge-cloud collaboration, our results show about 4 percent improvement in overall task success rates.

- Abstract
The rapid evolution of technology allows the healthcare sector to adopt intelligent, context-aware, secure, and ubiquitous healthcare services. Together with the global trend of an aging population, it has become highly important to propose value-creating, yet cost-efficient digital solutions for healthcare systems. These solutions should provide effective means of healthcare services in both the hospital and home care scenarios. In this paper, we focused on the latter case, where the goal was to provide easy-to-use, reliable, and secure remote monitoring and aid for elderly persons at their home. We proposed a framework to integrate the capabilities of edge computing and blockchain technology to address some of the key requirements of smart remote healthcare systems, such as long operating times, low cost, resilience to network problems, security, and trust in highly dynamic network conditions. In order to assess the feasibility of our approach, we evaluated the performance of our framework in terms of latency, power consumption, network utilization, and computational load, compared to a scenario where no blockchain was used.

- Abstract
Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) is recognised as a solution in future networks to offload computation and data storage from mobile and IoT devices to the servers at the edge of mobile networks. It reduces the network traffic and service latency compared to passing all data to cloud data centers while offering greater processing power than handling tasks locally at terminals. Since MEC servers are scattered throughout the radio access network, their computation capacities are modest in comparison to large cloud data centers. Therefore, offloading decision between MEC and cloud server should minimize the usage of the resources while maximizing the number of accepted delay critical requests. In this work we formulate the joint optimization of communication and computation resources allocation for computation offloading (CO) requests with strict latency constraints. We show that the global optimization problem is NP-hard and propose an efficient heuristic solution based on the single user optimal solution. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, compared to optimal and baseline solution where tasks are allocated in the order of arrival, with different system parameters. They show that our algorithm performs close to the optimal in terms of resource utilization and outperforms the baseline algorithm in terms of acceptance rate.

Paper focuses on the providing theoretical and practical background on the wedding industry, with a special emphasis on the recommendation for wedding event planners, reached through implemented field "mystery shopping" research methodology. Wedding industry becomes one of the leading segments of the global events industry, with turnover of almost USD 220 billion only in the USA. Having this economic impact, it is necessary to understand that the wedding (as the form of event organisation) is becoming more and more complex process, and that complexity is driven by changes in the needs and wants of new generation of clients, and by changes in clients free time management in the life-work balance. On the case of the largest wedding organiser in Serbia, using the mystery shopping approach, it was possible to determine key areas of improvement internal wedding organiser process and to reach higher client's satisfaction.

The possibility to prevent employees` turnover intentions are important issue for organizations but it is not easy without identifying risk factors. HR analytic methods are seen as the valuable tools for extracting and weighting predictors of employees` withdrawal behavior. This paper ilustrates the potential of analytic hierarchy process method for identifying key predictors of voluntary turnover intentions. The analysis is conducted on 665 production employees using five criteria: work satisfaction, work characteristics (job motivating potential), intrinsic motivation, life aspirations and needs, from the most to the least weighted. Two parementers were included, sector where employees work and their shift. Results indicate the sectors and shift employing people with highest risk of turnover demonstrating the effectivness of using AHP method for the purpose. As previous studies that uses HR analytics tools in the domain mainly operated with demographic and general employees` data, while more orthodox HR approaches focus on direct effect of job satisfaction, we offered the combination of those two. We imply that the integration of more subjective data collected directly from employee, might be integrated in the overal personnel database and available for processing with HR analytic tools.

Fraud presents a serious problem and arising issue for all of society at national and global levels. According to global fraud research conducted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, it is estimated that the average company loses about 5% of its annual revenue due to different types of business fraud. Total estimated annual fraud losses according to global ACFE research reaches about 4.7 trillion dollars. Business frauds also present an important issue for the Croatian economy, business community and society as a whole. Thereby, considerable attention should be given to this issue with the aim of raising awareness throughout society on fraud and its negative and destructive impact on all of society. The main purpose of this paper is to examine differences in fraud characteristics between state-owned and private companies in the Republic of Croatia. Research was based on data on business frauds obtained by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Croatia which included 124 respondents. Data were related to frauds that occurred in Croatian companies in 2021 and 2020. In this paper we focused on fraud characteristics such as fraud loss, type of fraud, fraud duration and methods of fraud detection in order to determine whether fraud in privately owned companies differs significantly from fraud in state-owned companies. Research results revealed how differences in fraud characteristics among privately and state-owned companies exist. Based on a sample of Croatian companies that were victims of fraud, it is noted how fraud in state-owned companies lasts longer and creates greater loses in comparison to fraud in private owned companies. Moreover, data related to estimated fraud loss and fraud duration were statistically significant in terms of differentiating these two groups of companies. Based on data on discriminatory variables a logistic regression model correctly classified 78.46% of companies in the group of companies that are privately or state-owned.

- Abstract
With network slicing, physical networks are partitioned into multiple virtual networks tailored to serve different types of service with their specific requirements. In order to optimize the utilization of network resources for delay-critical applications, we propose a new multi-domain network virtualization framework based on a novel multipath multihop delay model. This framework encompasses a novel hierarchical orchestration mechanism for mapping network slices onto physical resources and a mechanism for dynamic slice resizing. The main idea is to locally redefine the delay requirements on each network domain depending on the conditions in the rest of the network. Delays larger than threshold (debt) are allowed in certain domains if there is a possibility to compensate such excessive delays in other segments of the network that can transmit the messages with less latency (credit). This tradeoff or delay threshold redefinition on different segments of the route is referred to as network latency equalization. For performance comparison, minimum cost routing with latency constraints is used as a baseline. We show that our approach enables significantly better utilization of the network resources measured in the number of slices with the same latency requirements that can be accommodated in the network.

Nemaline myopathy (NM) is one of the most common congenital nondystrophic myopathies and is characterized by muscle weakness, often from birth. Mutations in ACTA1 are a frequent cause of NM (ie, NEM3). ACTA1 encodes alpha-actin 1, the main constituent of the sarcomeric thin filament. The mechanisms by which mutations in ACTA1 contribute to muscle weakness in NEM3 are incompletely understood. We hypothesized that sarcomeric dysfunction contributes to muscle weakness in NEM3 patients.To test this hypothesis, we performed contractility measurements in individual muscle fibers and myofibrils obtained from muscle biopsies of 14 NEM3 patients with different ACTA1 mutations. To identify the structural basis for impaired contractility, low angle X-ray diffraction and stimulated emission-depletion microscopy were applied.Our findings reveal that muscle fibers of NEM3 patients display a reduced maximal force-generating capacity, which is caused by dysfunctional sarcomere contractility in the majority of patients, as revealed by contractility measurements in myofibrils. Low angle X-ray diffraction and stimulated emission-depletion microscopy indicate that dysfunctional sarcomere contractility in NEM3 patients involves a lower number of myosin heads binding to actin during muscle activation. This lower number is not the result of reduced thin filament length. Interestingly, the calcium sensitivity of force is unaffected in some patients, but decreased in others.Dysfunctional sarcomere contractility is an important contributor to muscle weakness in the majority of NEM3 patients. - Abstract
In multi-hop secondary networks, bidding strategies for spectrum auction, route selection, and relaying incentives should be jointly considered to establish multi-hop communication. In this paper, a framework for joint resource bidding and tipping is developed where users iteratively revise their strategies, which include bidding and incentivizing relays, to achieve their quality of service requirements. A bidding language is designed to generalize secondary users’ (SUs) heterogeneous demands for multiple resources and willingness to pay. Then, group partitioning-based auction mechanisms are presented to exploit the heterogeneity of SU demands in multi-hop secondary networks. These mechanisms include primary operator (PO) strategies based on static and dynamic partition schemes combined with new payment mechanisms to obtain high revenue and fairly allocate the resources. The proposed auction schemes stimulate the participation of SUs and provide high revenue for the PO while maximizing the social welfare. Besides, they satisfy the properties of truthfulness, individual rationality, and computational tractability. Simulation results have shown that for highly demanding users the static group scheme achieves 150% more winners and three times higher revenue for the PO compared to a scheme without grouping. For lowly demanding users, the PO may keep similar revenue with the dynamic scheme by lowering 50% the price per channel as the number of winners will increase proportionally.

New thiazole hybrids were synthesized and evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxicity against a panel of human malignant cell lines. The key steps in the synthesis of hybrids 3–7 involved the initial condensation of appropriate aldononitriles with cysteine ethyl ester hydrochloride, followed by subsequent treatment of resulting thiazolines with diazabicycloundecene to form the thiazole ring. Bioisosteres 8 and 14 have been prepared after the stereoselective addition of 2-(trimethylsilyl)thiazole to the hemiacetals obtained by periodate cleavage of terminal diol functionality in the suitably protected d-glucose derivatives. The obtained analogues showed various antiproliferative activities in the cultures of several tumour cell lines. Hybrid 6 was the most potent in HeLa cells, exhibiting more than 10 and 4 times stronger activity than both leads 1 and 2, respectively. The most active compound in Raji cells was hybrid 12, which was nearly 2-fold more potent than the clinical antitumour drug doxorubicin. All analogues were more potent in A549 cells with respect to lead 1, while compounds 6 and 7 were slightly more active than doxorubicin. Preliminary structure–activity relationship analysis revealed that the presence of a cinnamate group at the C-3 position in analogues of type 7 increases the activity of resulting molecular hybrids.

48. The epidemiology of blunt ocular trauma in a tertiary health care institution in Serbia - a four-year-long retrospective study

Introduction/Objective. Ocular trauma is a globally important cause of visual impairment. The aim of our study was to analyses demographic, epidemiological, and clinical characteristics of blunt ocular trauma. Methods. The retrospective study enrolled patients with blunt ocular trauma, hospitalized at the Eye Clinic, University Clinical Centre of Serbia in Belgrade during a four-year period (2018–2022). Demographic characteristics, mechanism of injury, best corrected visual acuity on admission and discharge and injured eye structure were analyzed. Results. Out of 283 patients, the majority (n = 233, 82%) were men. People aged 61 and over (n = 82, 29%) were at greatest risk for blunt ocular trauma. Injuries from splitting wood (n = 78, 28%) and various blunt tools and objects (n = 70, 25%) were the most common mechanism in the entire study group, both in men and in women. Visual acuity on admission was better than 0.6 in 147 (52%) patients and at discharge in 185 (65%). The most common eye structure affected are pathological findings in anterior chamber (n = 160, 56%), which are mainly related to hyphemia. Conclusion. Present study showed that blunt ocular trauma affects all age groups, but most often elderly and children. Men are injured more often than women. Splitting wood and manipulating blunt tools and objects are activities with the highest risk of blunt ocular trauma.

Hotel revenue management brings significant financial benefits, but on the other hand, it can lead to a deterioration in guest perceived fairness. Certain pricing manipulations, dynamic price optimization, and changes in reservation terms aim to maximize a hotel's financial performance. However, such practices can negatively impact the non-financial aspects of customer relationship management, such as perceived value, customer satisfaction, and loyalty. Price discrimination as one of the revenue management techniques is often closely linked to a hotel guest's perceived fairness. Additionally, inventory management techniques like capacity constraints and overbooking can have adverse effects on guest satisfaction. Hotel managers are aware of the risks associated with guest dissatisfaction and, therefore, seek to identify and define strategies to prevent and mitigate their negative consequences. The goal of this paper is to gain insight into the potential consequences of implementing revenue management techniques and emphasize the need for defining preventive measures and plans to reduce and eliminate guest dissatisfaction.

50. Photocoagulation for retinal hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel-Lindau disease

Introduction. Von Hippel–Lindau disease is a hereditary, autosomal dominant, tumor syndrome with a predisposition to developing various benign and malignant tumors. Retinal hemangioblastoma is often the presenting manifestation. We report a case of Von-Hippel–Lindau disease in a 13-year-old girl with bilateral eye involvement. Case outline. The patient was referred to the Eye Clinic, University Clinical Center of Serbia, with a diagnosis of Coats disease. Clinical examination revealed that best corrected visual acuity was 20/20 on her right eye, while her left eye showed counting fingers at 20 cm distance. Dilated fundoscopy of the right eye revealed multiple tortuous feeding vessels leading to orange-reddish, sharply demarcated multiple lesions on the far periphery of the upper retina, corresponding to retinal hemangioblastoma. the left eye showed edematous optic nerve head, tortuous retinal vessels, exudates, and retinal detachment including macula. Considering that the patient had multiple bilateral retinal hemangioblastomas and that her father had pathohistologically proven brain hemangioblastoma and numerous visceral tumors, Von Hippel–Lindau disease was assumed. Focal argon laser photocoagulation was performed in the region of all visible vascular tumors and feeding vessels in the right eye. The patient’s visual acuity remained unchanged five months after the disease detection. Conclusion. The importance of education about dominant inheritance pattern of Von Hippel–Lindau disease cannot be overemphasized. Role of an ophthalmologist is critical in early diagnosis of both retinal hemangioblastoma and Von Hippel–Lindau disease.
