In this work we present a model of two young eclipsing binaries in the Orion Complex. Both heavily spotted, they present radii and temperatures that are in disagreement with the predictions of standard stellar models. 2M05-06 consists of two stars with different masses (~0.52 and ~0.42 Msun) but with very similar radii (~0.9 Rsun), and with the less massive star having a highly spotted surface that causes it to have a hotter (unspotted) photosphere than the higher-mass star. The other system, 2M05-00, consists of two stars of very similar masses (~0.34 Msun), but very different radii (~0.7 and ~1.0 Rsun), which creates an appearance of the two eclipsing stars being non-coeval. 2M05-00 appears to have a tertiary companion that could offer an explanation for the unusual properties of the eclipsing stars, as has been seen in some other young triple systems. Comparing the empirically measured properties of these eclipsing binaries to the predictions of stellar models, both standard and magnetic, we find that only the magnetic models correctly predict the observed relationship between mass and effective temperature. However, standard (non-magnetic) models better predict the temperatures of the unspotted photospheres. To date, we have access to enormous inventories of stellar spectra that allow the extraction of atmospheric parameters and chemical abundances essential in stellar studies. However, characterizing such a large amount of data is complex and requires a good understanding of the studied object to ensure reliable and homogeneous results. In this study, we present a methodology to measure homogenously the basic atmospheric parameters and detailed chemical abundances of over 1600 thin disk main-sequence stars in the 100 pc solar neighborhood, using APOGEE-2 infrared spectra. We employed the code tonalli to determine the atmospheric parameters using a prior on log g. The log g prior in tonalli implies an understanding of the treated population and helps to find physically coherent answers. Our atmospheric parameters agree within the typical uncertainties (100 K in Teff, 0.15 dex in log g and $[M/H]$) with previous estimations of ASPCAP and Gaia DR3. We use our temperatures to determine a new infrared color-temperature sequence, in good agreement with previous works, that can be used for any main-sequence star. Additionally, we used the BACCHUS code to determine the abundances of Mg, Al, Si, Ca, and Fe in our sample. The five elements (Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Fe) studied have an abundance distribution centered around slightly sub-solar values, in agreement with previous results for the solar neighborhood. The TEMPO (Transiting Exosatellites, Moons, and Planets in Orion) Survey is a proposed 30-day observational campaign using the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. By providing deep, high-resolution, short-cadence infrared photometry of a dynamic star-forming region, TEMPO will investigate the demographics of exosatellites orbiting free-floating planets and brown dwarfs -- a largely unexplored discovery space. Here, we present the simulated detection yields of three populations: extrasolar moon analogs orbiting free-floating planets, exosatellites orbiting brown dwarfs, and exoplanets orbiting young stars. Additionally, we outline a comprehensive range of anticipated scientific outcomes accompanying such a survey. These science drivers include: obtaining observational constraints to test prevailing theories of moon, planet, and star formation; directly detecting widely separated exoplanets orbiting young stars; investigating the variability of young stars and brown dwarfs; constraining the low-mass end of the stellar initial mass function; constructing the distribution of dust in the Orion Nebula and mapping evolution in the near-infrared extinction law; mapping emission features that trace the shocked gas in the region; constructing a dynamical map of Orion members using proper motions; and searching for extragalactic sources and transients via deep extragalactic observations reaching a limiting magnitude of $m_{AB}=29.7$\,mag (F146 filter)., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, submitted to OJAp

We have assembled a sample of $\sim$8200 stars with spectral types F5V-M5V, all having directly measured X-ray luminosities from eROSITA and rotation periods from TESS, and having empirically estimated ages via their membership in stellar clusters and groups identified in Gaia astrometry (ages 3-500 Myr). This is the largest such study sample yet assembled for the purpose of empirically constraining the evolution of rotationally driven stellar X-ray activity. We observe rotation-age-activity correlations that are qualitatively as expected: stars of a given spectral type spin down with age and they become less X-ray active as they do so. We provide simple functional representations of these empirical relationships that predict X-ray luminosity from basic observables to within 0.3 dex. Interestingly, we find that the rotation-activity relationship is far simpler and more monotonic in form when expressed in terms of stellar angular momentum instead of rotation period. We discuss how this finding may relate to the long-established idea that rotation-activity relationships are mediated by stellar structure (e.g., convective turnover time, surface area). (Edited) Many fast rotator stars (rotation periods of < 2 days) are found in unresolved binaries with separations of tens of au. This correlation leads to the question of whether the formation of binary stars inherently produces fast rotators. We aim to understand whether the formation of companions plays a role in spinning up stars. We use magneto-hydrodynamical simulations to study the formation of multiple star systems from turbulent and non-turbulent protostellar cores. We track the angular momentum accreted by individual star and inner disc systems by using a sink particle technique. We run a resolution study to extrapolate protostellar properties. We find in all simulations that the primary star can experience spin-up events that are correlated with the formation of companions. The primary star can spin up by up to 84% of its pre-fragmentation angular momentum and by up to 18% of its pre-fragmentation mass-specific angular momentum. The mechanism for the spin-up is gravitational disc instabilities in the circumstellar disc around the primary star, leading to the accretion of material with high specific angular momentum. The simulations that experience the strongest disc instabilities fragment to form companions. Simulations with weaker spin-up events experience disc instabilities triggered by a companion flyby, and the disc instability in these cases does not produce further fragments. We conclude that the primary star in multiple star systems may end up with a higher spin than single stars. This is because gravitational instabilities in the circumstellar disc around the primary star can trigger a spin-up event. In the strongest spin-up events, the instability is likely to cause disc fragmentation and the formation of companions. We developed a grid of stellar rotation models for low-mass and solar-type Classical T Tauri stars (CTTS) ($0.3M_{\odot}

Data-driven models, which apply machine learning to infer physical properties from large quantities of data, have become increasingly important for extracting stellar properties from spectra. In general, these methods have been applied to data in one wavelength regime or another. For example, APOGEE Net has been applied to near-IR spectra from the SDSS-V APOGEE survey to predict stellar parameters (Teff, log g, and [Fe/H]) for all stars with Teff from 3,000 to 50,000 K, including pre-main sequence stars, OB stars, main sequence dwarfs, and red giants. The increasing number of large surveys across multiple wavelength regimes provides the opportunity to improve data-driven models through learning from multiple datasets at once. In SDSS-V, a number of spectra of stars will be observed not just with APOGEE in near-IR, but also with BOSS in optical regime. Here we aim to develop a complementary model, BOSS Net, that will replicate the performance of APOGEE Net in these optical data through label transfer. We report dynamical mass measurements of the individual stars in the most luminous and massive stellar member of the nearby Ophiuchus star-forming region, the young tight binary system S1. We combine 28 archival datasets with seven recent, proprietary VLBA observations obtained as part of the \textit{Dynamical Masses of Young Stellar Multiple Systems with the VLBA} project (DYNAMO--VLBA), to constrain the astrometric and orbital parameters of the system, and recover high accuracy dynamical masses. The primary component, S1A, is found to have a mass of 4.11$\pm$0.10~M$_\odot$, significantly less than the typical value, $\sim$~6~M$_\odot$ previously reported in the literature. We show that the spectral energy distribution of S1A can be reproduced by a reddened blackbody with a temperature between roughly 14,000~K and 17,000~K. According to evolutionary models, this temperature range corresponds to stellar masses between 4~M$_\odot$ and 6~M$_\odot$ so the SED is not a priori inconsistent with the dynamical mass of S1A. The luminosity of S1 derived from SED-fitting, however, is only consistent with models for stellar masses above 5~M$_\odot$. Thus, we cannot reconcile the evolutionary models with the dynamical mass measurement of S1A: the models consistent with the location of S1A in the HR diagram correspond to masses at least 25\% higher than the dynamical mass. For the secondary component, S1B, a mass of 0.831~$\pm$~0.014~M$_\odot $ is determined, consistent with a low-mass young star. While the radio flux of S1A remains roughly constant throughout the orbit, the flux of S1B is found to be higher near the apastron.

We developed a tool that measures equivalent widths of various lines in low resolution optical spectra, and it was applied to stellar spectra obtained as part of SDSS-V and LAMOST programs. These lines, such as Li I which directly indicates stellar youth, or optical H I and Ca II which in emission indicate activity associated with stellar youth, are commonly seen in YSOs. We observe several notable differences in the properties of these lines between YSOs and the field stars. Using these data, we devise a set of criteria through which it is possible to confirm the youth of stars that have been observed by the ABYSS program, as well as to identify likely young stars that have serendipitously been observed by other programs. We examine the decrement of H lines seen in emission in CTTSs, and estimate the properties of the accretion stream that is responsible for the production of these lines. One of the key research themes identified by the Astro2020 decadal survey is Worlds and Suns in Context. The Advanced X-ray Imaging Satellite (AXIS) is a proposed NASA APEX mission that will become the prime high-energy instrument for studying star-planet connections from birth to death. This work explores the major advances in this broad domain of research that will be enabled by the AXIS mission, through X-ray observations of stars in clusters spanning a broad range of ages, flaring M-dwarf stars known to host exoplanets, and young stars exhibiting accretion interactions with their protoplanetary disks. In addition, we explore the ability of AXIS to use planetary nebulae, white dwarfs, and the Solar System to constrain important physical processes from the microscopic (e.g., charge exchange) to the macroscopic (e.g., stellar wind interactions with the surrounding interstellar medium)., Comment: This White Paper is part of a series commissioned for the AXIS Probe Concept Mission

Interacting binary stars undergo evolution that is significantly different from single stars, thus, a larger sample of such systems with precisely determined stellar parameters is needed to understand the complexities of this process. We present an analysis of a hierarchical triple containing a spectroscopically double-lined eclipsing binary, 2M16+21. Our calculations show that this system has undergone significant mass transfer, with the current mass and radius of the donor of 0.33 Msun and 2.55 Rsun, as well as the accretor of 1.37 Msun and 2.20 Rsun, resulting in a mass ratio of 4.2. Despite the already significant mass loss from the donor, shedding well over half its initial gas, mass transfer remains active. The shock from the accretion has produced a spot on the surface of the accretor that is ~2 times hotter than the photosphere, reaching temperatures of ~10,000 K and producing significant UV excess. This shock temperature is comparable to what is seen in the pre-main sequence stars that undergo active accretion. The compactness of the hot spot of just ~2 deg is one of the smallest observed in systems exhibiting binary mass transfer, pointing to the recency of its formation, as such it can be used to explicitly trace the point of impact of the accretion stream. The donor of this system may be a sub-sub-giant; comparing it with systems with similar initial conditions may help with understanding the formation processes of such stars., Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, accepted to MNRAS

The Advanced X-ray Imaging Satellite (AXIS) is a Probe-class concept that will build on the legacy of the Chandra X-ray Observatory by providing low-background, arcsecond-resolution imaging in the 0.3-10 keV band across a 450 arcminute$^2$ field of view, with an order of magnitude improvement in sensitivity. AXIS utilizes breakthroughs in the construction of lightweight segmented X-ray optics using single-crystal silicon, and developments in the fabrication of large-format, small-pixel, high readout rate CCD detectors with good spectral resolution, allowing a robust and cost-effective design. Further, AXIS will be responsive to target-of-opportunity alerts and, with onboard transient detection, will be a powerful facility for studying the time-varying X-ray universe, following on from the legacy of the Neil Gehrels (Swift) X-ray observatory that revolutionized studies of the transient X-ray Universe. We develop statistical methods within a Bayesian framework to infer the star formation history from photometric surveys of pre-main sequence populations. Our procedures include correcting for biases due to extinction in magnitude-limited surveys, and using distributions from subsets of stars with individual extinction measurements. We also make modest corrections for unresolved binaries. We apply our methods to samples of populations with Gaia photometry in the Orion A molecular cloud. Using two well-established sets of evolutionary tracks, we find that, although our sample is incomplete at youngest ages due to extinction, star formation has proceeded in Orion A at a relatively constant rate between ages of about 0.3 and 5 Myr, in contrast to other studies suggesting multiple epochs of star formation. Similar results are obtained for a set of tracks that attempt to take the effects of strong magnetic fields into account. We also find no evidence for a well-constrained "birthline" that would result from low-mass stars appearing first along the deuterium-burning main sequence, especially using the magnetic evolutionary tracks. While our methods have been developed to deal with Gaia data, they may be useful for analyzing other photometric surveys of star-forming regions.

We report the discovery of 2M0056-08 as an equal-mass eclipsing binary (EB), comprising two red straggler stars (RSSs) with an orbital period of 33.9 d. Both stars have masses of 1.419 Msun, identical to within 0.2%. Both stars appear to be in the early red-giant phase of evolution; however, they are far displaced to cooler temperatures and lower luminosities compared to standard stellar models. The broadband spectral energy distribution shows NUV excess and X-ray emission, consistent with chromospheric and coronal emission from magnetically active stars; indeed, the stars rotate more rapidly than typical red giants and they evince light curve modulations due to spots. These modulations also reveal the stars to be rotating synchronously with one another. There is evidence for excess FUV emission and long-term modulations in radial-velocities; it is not clear whether these are also attributable to magnetic activity or if they reveal a tertiary companion. Stellar evolution models modified to account for the effects of spots can reproduce the observed radii and temperatures of the RSSs. If the system possesses a white dwarf tertiary, then mass-transfer scenarios could explain the manner by which the stars came to possess such remarkably identical masses and by which they came to be sychronized. However, if the stars are presumed to have been formed as identical twins, and they managed to become tidally synchronized as they evolved toward the red giant branch, then all of the features of the system can be explained via activity effects, without requiring a complex dynamical history., Comment: 23 pages, 15 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We use TESS full-frame imaging data to investigate the angular momentum evolution of young stars in Orion Complex. We confirm recent findings that stars with rotation periods faster than 2 d are overwhelmingly binaries, with typical separations of tens of AU; such binaries quickly clear their disks, leading to a tendency for rapid rotators to be diskless. Among (nominally single) stars with rotation periods slower than 2 d, we observe the familiar, gyrochronological horseshoe-shaped relationship of rotation period versus $T_{\rm eff}$, indicating that the processes which govern the universal evolution of stellar rotation on Gyr timescales are already in place within the first few Myr. Using spectroscopic $v\sin i$ we determine the distribution of $\sin i$, revealing that the youngest stars are biased toward more pole-on orientations, which may be responsible for the systematics between stellar mass and age observed in star-forming regions. We are also able for the first time to make empirical, quantitative measurements of angular momenta and their time derivative as functions of stellar mass and age, finding these relationships to be much simpler and monotonic as compared to the complex relationships involving rotation period alone; evidently, the relationship between rotation period and $T_{\rm eff}$ is largely a reflection of mass-dependent stellar structure and not of angular momentum per se. Our measurements show that the stars experience spin-down torques in the range ~$10^{37}$ erg at ~1 Myr to ~$10^{35}$ erg at ~10 Myr, which provide a crucial empirical touchstone for theoretical mechanisms of angular momentum loss in young stars., Comment: Accepted to AJ, 17 pages, 11 figures

The eighteenth data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys (SDSS) is the first one for SDSS-V, the fifth generation of the survey. SDSS-V comprises three primary scientific programs, or "Mappers": Milky Way Mapper (MWM), Black Hole Mapper (BHM), and Local Volume Mapper (LVM). This data release contains extensive targeting information for the two multi-object spectroscopy programs (MWM and BHM), including input catalogs and selection functions for their numerous scientific objectives. We describe the production of the targeting databases and their calibration- and scientifically-focused components. DR18 also includes ~25,000 new SDSS spectra and supplemental information for X-ray sources identified by eROSITA in its eFEDS field. We present updates to some of the SDSS software pipelines and preview changes anticipated for DR19. We also describe three value-added catalogs (VACs) based on SDSS-IV data that have been published since DR17, and one VAC based on the SDSS-V data in the eFEDS field., Comment: Accepted to ApJS

The fifth iteration of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-V) is set to obtain optical and near-infrared spectra of $\sim$5 million stars of all ages and masses throughout the Milky Way. As a part of these efforts, APOGEE & BOSS Young Star Survey (ABYSS) will observe $\sim10^5$ stars with ages $<$30 Myr that have been selected using a set of homogeneous selection functions that make use of different tracers of youth. The ABYSS targeting strategy we describe in this paper is aimed to provide the largest spectroscopic census of young stars to-date. It consists of 8 different types of selection criteria that take the position on the HR diagram, infrared excess, variability, as well as the position in phase space in consideration. The resulting catalog of $\sim$200,000 sources (of which a half are expected to be observed) provides representative coverage of the young Galaxy, including both nearby diffuse associations as well as more distant massive complexes, reaching towards the inner Galaxy and the Galactic center., Comment: 18 pages, 12 pages. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV (SDSS-IV) APOGEE-2 primary science goal was to observe red giant stars throughout the Galaxy to study its dynamics, morphology, and chemical evolution. The APOGEE instrument, a high-resolution 300 fiber H-band (1.55-1.71 micron) spectrograph, is also ideal to study other stellar populations in the Galaxy, among which are a number of star forming regions and young open clusters. We present the results of the determination of six stellar properties ($T_{eff}$, $\log{g}$, [Fe/H], $L/L_\odot$, $M/M_\odot$, and ages) for a sample that is composed of 3360 young stars, of sub-solar to super-solar types, in sixteen Galactic star formation and young open cluster regions. Those sources were selected by using a clustering method that removes most of the field contamination. Samples were also refined by removing targets affected by various systematic effects of the parameter determination. The final samples are presented in a comprehensive catalog that includes all six estimated parameters. This overview study also includes parameter spatial distribution maps for all regions and Hertzprung-Russell ($L/L_\odot$ vs. $T_{eff}$) diagrams. This study serves as a guide for detailed studies on individual regions, and paves the way for the future studies on the global properties of stars in the pre-main sequence phase of stellar evolution using more robust samples., Comment: 6 figures, 4 tables

We report the discovery of 2M1222-57 as a low-mass, pre-main-sequence (PMS) eclipsing binary (EB) in the Lower Centaurus Crux (LCC) association for which, using Gaia parallaxes and proper motions with a neural-net age estimator, we determine an age of 16.2$\pm$2.2 Myr. The broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) shows clear excess at ~10 um indicative of a circumbinary disk, and new speckle-imaging observations reveal a faint, tertiary companion separated by ~100 AU. H-alpha emission is modulated on the orbital period, consistent with theoretical models of orbitally pulsed accretion streams reaching from the inner disk edge to the central stars. From a joint analysis of spectroscopically determined radial velocities and TESS light curves, together with additional tight constraints provided by the SED and the Gaia parallax, we measure masses for the eclipsing stars of 0.74 Msun and 0.67 Msun; radii of 0.98 Rsun and 0.94 Rsun; and effective temperatures of 3750 K and 3645 K. The masses and radii of both stars are measured to an accuracy of ~1%. The measured radii are inflated, and the temperatures suppressed, relative to predictions of standard PMS evolutionary models at the age of LCC; also, the Li abundances are ~2 dex less depleted than predicted by those models. However, models that account for the global and internal effects of surface magnetic fields are able to simultaneously reproduce the measured radii, temperatures, and Li abundances at an age of 17.0$\pm$0.5 Myr. Altogether, the 2M1222-57 system presents very strong evidence that magnetic activity in young stars alters both their global properties and the physics of their interiors., Comment: 23 pages, 19 figures, accepted by ApJ

Very young (t $\lesssim$ 10 Myrs) stars possess strong magnetic fields that channel ionized gas from the interiors of their circumstellar discs to the surface of the star. Upon impacting the stellar surface, the shocked gas recombines and emits hydrogen spectral lines. To characterize the density and temperature of the gas within these accretion streams, we measure equivalent widths of Brackett (Br) 11-20 emission lines detected in 1101 APOGEE spectra of 326 likely pre-main sequence accretors. For sources with multiple observations, we measure median epoch-to-epoch line strength variations of 10% in Br11 and 20% in Br20. We also fit the measured line ratios to predictions of radiative transfer models by Kwan & Fischer. We find characteristic best-fit electron densities of $n_e$ = 10$^{11} - 10^{12}$ cm$^{-3}$, and excitation temperatures that are inversely correlated with electron density (from T$\sim$5000 K for $n_e \sim 10^{12}$ cm$^{-3}$, to T$\sim$12500 K at $n_e \sim 10^{11}$ cm$^{-3}$). These physical parameters are in good agreement with predictions from modelling of accretion streams that account for the hydrodynamics and radiative transfer within the accretion stream. The evolutionary status of 24 post-AGB stars is presented based on Gaia DR3 data. All 24 stars have parallaxes accurate to better than 3 X sigma and have RUWE values less than 1.4. Based on the Gaia DR3 distances the absolute luminosities are derived. For 14 of the stars, the luminosities confirm their post-AGB evolutionary stage. However, V1027 Cyg, which was previously classified as a post-AGB star, is found to have a higher luminosity; thus it may be an evolved, massive, pulsating semi-regular variable star of type G7Ia. We present a catalog of 3354 candidate young stars within 500 pc that appear to have been ejected from their parent associations with relative speeds of >5 km/s. These candidates have been homogeneously selected through performing a 2d spherical traceback of previously identified pre-main sequence candidates to various star forming regions, ensuring that the traceback age as well as the estimated age of a star is consistent with the age of the population, and excluding contaminants from the nearby moving groups that follow the dominant velocity currents in the field. Among the identified candidates we identify a number of pairs that appear to have interacted in the process of the ejection, these pairs have similar traceback time, and their trajectory appears to be diametrically opposite from each other, or they have formed a wide binary in the process. As the selection of these candidates is performed solely in 2d, spectral follow-up is necessary for their eventual confirmation. Unfortunately, recently released Gaia DR3 radial velocities appear to be unsuitable for characterizing the kinematics of low mass stars with ages <100 Myr, as the accretion, activity, and a variety of other spectral features that make them distinct from the more evolved stars do not appear to have been accurately accounted for in the data, resulting in significant artificially inflated scatter in their RV distribution., Comment: 12 pages, 11 figures, accepted to MNRAS

We present design considerations for the Transiting Exosatellites, Moons, and Planets in Orion (TEMPO) Survey with the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. This proposed 30-day survey is designed to detect a population of transiting extrasolar satellites, moons, and planets in the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC). The young (1-3 Myr), densely-populated ONC harbors about a thousand bright brown dwarfs (BDs) and free-floating planetary-mass objects (FFPs). TEMPO offers sufficient photometric precision to monitor FFPs with ${\rm M}\geq1{\rm M}_{\rm J}$ for transiting satellites. The survey is also capable of detecting FFPs down to sub-Saturn masses via direct imaging, although follow-up confirmation will be challenging. TEMPO yield estimates include 14 (3-22) exomoons/satellites transiting FFPs and 54 (8-100) satellites transiting BDs. Of this population, approximately $50\%$ of companions would be "super-Titans" (Titan to Earth mass). Yield estimates also include approximately $150$ exoplanets transiting young Orion stars, of which $>50\%$ will orbit mid-to-late M dwarfs and approximately ten will be proto-habitable zone, terrestrial ($0.1{\rm M}_{\oplus} - 5{\rm M}_{\oplus}$) exoplanets. TEMPO would provide the first census demographics of small exosatellites orbiting FFPs and BDs, while simultaneously offering insights into exoplanet evolution at the earliest stages. This detected exosatellite population is likely to be markedly different from the current census of exoplanets with similar masses (e.g., Earth-mass exosatellites that still possess H/He envelopes). Although our yield estimates are highly uncertain, as there are no known exoplanets or exomoons analogous to these satellites, the TEMPO survey would test the prevailing theories of exosatellite formation and evolution, which limit the certainty surrounding detection yields., Comment: Submitted to PASP

Dipper stars are a classification of young stellar objects that exhibit dimming variability in their light curves, dropping in brightness by 10-50%, likely induced by occultations due to circumstellar disk material. This variability can be periodic, quasi-periodic, or aperiodic. Dipper stars have been discovered in young stellar associations via ground-based and space-based photometric surveys. We present the detection and characterization of the largest collection of dipper stars to date: 293 dipper stars, including 234 new dipper candidates. We have produced a catalog of these targets, which also includes young stellar variables that exhibit predominately bursting-like variability and symmetric variability (equal parts bursting and dipping). The total number of catalog sources is 414. These variable sources were found in a visual survey of TESS light curves, where dipping-like variability was observed. We found a typical age among our dipper sources of <5 Myr, with the age distribution peaking at ~2 Myr, and a tail of the distribution extending to ages older than 20 Myr. Regardless of the age, our dipper candidates tend to exhibit infrared excess, which is indicative of the presence of disks. TESS is now observing the ecliptic plane, which is rich in young stellar associations, so we anticipate many more discoveries in the TESS dataset. We present a catalog of ~100,000 periodic variable stars in TESS FFI data among members of widely distributed moving groups identified with Gaia in the previous papers in the series. By combining the periods from our catalog attributable to rotation with previously derived rotation periods for benchmark open clusters, we develop an empirical gyrochronology relation of angular momentum evolution that is valid for stars with ages 10-1000 Myr. Excluding stars rotating faster than 2 days, which we find are predominantly binaries, we achieve a typical age precision of ~0.2-0.3 dex and improving at older ages. Importantly, these empirical relations apply to not only FGK-type stars but also M-type stars, due to the angular momentum distribution being much smoother, simpler, continuous and monotonic as compared to the rotation period distribution. As a result, we are also able to begin tracing in fine detail the nature of angular momentum loss in low-mass stars as functions of mass and age. We characterize the stellar variability amplitudes of the cool stars as functions of mass and age, which may correlate with the starspot covering fractions. We also identify pulsating variables among the hotter stars in the catalog, including $\delta$ Scuti, $\gamma$ Dor and SPB-type variables. We analyze the internal dynamics of young stars towards Perseus using Gaia EDR3 data, including Per OB2 and California Cloud. Interpreting the current dynamics, we speculate that Per OB2 may have formed from two separate clouds that have begun forming stars in a close proximity of each other. IC 348 is caught in the middle between the two of them, inheriting kinematics of both, and it stands out as a possible site of cloud cloud interaction. We also consider a possibility of a past supernova in Per OB2 - while one had likely occurred, it did not appear to have caused any obvious triggered star formation, but it has created a shock which has swept away the molecular gas away from IC 348. Finally, we examine a recently proposed shell between Taurus and Perseus. While its origin is unknown, we find no support for an expanding bubble in stellar kinematics, nor can we identify a likely progenitor for a supernova that may have caused it, disfavoring this scenario in the formation of this apparent shell., Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures. The interstellar medium (ISM) is turbulent on all scales and in all phases. In this paper, we study turbulence with different tracers in four nearby star-forming regions: Orion, Ophiuchus, Perseus, and Taurus. We combine the APOGEE-2 and Gaia surveys to obtain the full 6-dimensional measurements of positions and velocities of young stars in these regions. The velocity structure functions (VSFs) of the stars show a universal scaling of turbulence. We also obtain H{\alpha} gas kinematics in these four regions from the Wisconsin H-Alpha Mapper. The VSFs of the H{\alpha} are more diverse compared to the stars. In regions with recent supernova activities, they show characteristics of local energy injections and higher amplitudes compared to the VSFs of stars and of CO from the literature. Such difference in amplitude of the VSFs can be explained by the different energy and momentum transport from supernovae into different phases of the ISM, thus resulting in higher levels of turbulence in the warm ionized phase traced by H{\alpha}. In regions without recent supernova activities, the VSFs of young stars, H{\alpha}, and CO are generally consistent, indicating well-coupled turbulence between different phases. Within individual regions, the brighter parts of the H{\alpha} gas tend to have a higher level of turbulence than the low-emission parts. We use time-resolved spectra from the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE) to examine the distribution of radial velocity (RV) variations in 249 stars identified as members of the Sagittarius (Sgr) dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxy by Hayes et al (2020). We select Milky Way (MW) stars that have stellar parameters ($log(g)$, $T_{eff}$, and $[Fe/H]$) similar to those of the Sagittarius members by means of a k-d tree of dimension 3. We find that the shape of the distribution of RV shifts in Sgr dSph stars is similar to that measured in their MW analogs, but the total fraction of RV variable stars in the Sgr dSph is larger by a factor of $\sim 2$. After ruling out other explanations for this difference, we conclude that the fraction of close binaries in the Sgr dSph is intrinsically higher than in the MW. We discuss the implications of this result for the physical processes leading to the formation of close binaries in dwarf spheroidal and spiral galaxies.

OB associations are low-density groups of young stars that are dispersing from their birth environment into the Galactic field. They are important for understanding the star formation process, early stellar evolution, the properties and distribution of young stars and the processes by which young stellar groups disperse. Recent observations, particularly from Gaia, have shown that associations are highly complex, with a high degree of spatial, kinematic and temporal substructure. The kinematics of associations have shown them to be globally unbound and expanding, with the majority of recent studies revealing evidence for clear expansion patterns in the association subgroups, suggesting the subgroups were more compact in the past. This expansion is often non-isotropic, arguing against a simple explosive expansion, as predicted by some models of residual gas expulsion. The star formation histories of associations are often complex, exhibit moderate age spreads and temporal substructure, but so far have failed to reveal simple patterns of star formation propagation (e.g., triggering). These results have challenged the historical paradigm of the origin of associations as the expanded remnants of dense star clusters and suggests instead that they originate as highly substructured systems without a linear star formation history, but with multiple clumps of stars that have since expanded and begun to overlap, producing the complex systems we observe today. We train a convolutional neural network, APOGEE Net, to predict $T_\mathrm{eff}$, $\log g$, and, for some stars, [Fe/H], based on the APOGEE spectra. This is the first pipeline adapted for these data that is capable of estimating these parameters in a self-consistent manner not only for low mass stars, (such as main sequence dwarfs, pre-main sequence stars, and red giants), but also high mass stars with $T_\mathrm{eff}$ in excess of 50,000 K, including hot dwarfs and blue supergiants. The catalog of ~650,000 stars presented in this paper allows for a detailed investigation of the star forming history of not just the Milky Way, but also of the Magellanic clouds, as different type of objects tracing different parts of these galaxies can be more cleanly selected through their distinct placement in $T_\mathrm{eff}$-$\log g$ parameter space than in previous APOGEE catalogs produced through different pipelines., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures. This paper documents the seventeenth data release (DR17) from the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys; the fifth and final release from the fourth phase (SDSS-IV). DR17 contains the complete release of the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey, which reached its goal of surveying over 10,000 nearby galaxies. The complete release of the MaNGA Stellar Library (MaStar) accompanies this data, providing observations of almost 30,000 stars through the MaNGA instrument during bright time. DR17 also contains the complete release of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2) survey which publicly releases infra-red spectra of over 650,000 stars. The main sample from the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS), as well as the sub-survey Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS) data were fully released in DR16. New single-fiber optical spectroscopy released in DR17 is from the SPectroscipic IDentification of ERosita Survey (SPIDERS) sub-survey and the eBOSS-RM program. Along with the primary data sets, DR17 includes 25 new or updated Value Added Catalogs (VACs). This paper concludes the release of SDSS-IV survey data. The Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC) is the most massive region of active star formation within a kpc of the Sun. Using Gaia DR3 parallaxes and proper motions, we examine the bulk motions of stars radially and tangentially relative to the cluster center. We find an age gradient with distance to the stars in the ONC, from 385 pc for the oldest stars, to 395 pc for the younger stars, indicating that the star forming front is propagating into the cloud. We find an organized signature of rotation of the central cluster, but it is present only in stars younger than 2 Myr. We also observe a net infall of young stars into the center of the ONC's deep gravitational potential well. The infalling sources lie preferentially along the filament, on the other hand, outflowing sources are distributed spherically around the cluster, and they have larger velocity dispersion. We further propose a solution to a long-standing question of why the ONC shows a weak signature of expansion even though the cluster is likely bound: much of this expansion may be driven by unstable N-body interactions among stars, resulting in low-velocity ejections. Though analyzing signatures imprinted on stellar dynamics across different spatial scales, these observation shed new light on the signatures of formation and evolution of young clusters., Comment: 14 pages, accepted to MNRAS

We present a large-scale study of stellar rotation for T Tauri stars in the Orion Star-Forming Complex. We use the projected rotational velocity ($v\sin(i)$) estimations reported by the APOGEE-2 collaboration as well as individual masses and ages derived from the position of the stars in the HR diagram, considering Gaia-EDR3 parallaxes and photometry plus diverse evolutionary models. We find an empirical trend for $v\sin(i)$ decreasing with age for low-mass stars ($0.4 M_{\odot} < M_{\ast} < 1.2 M_{\odot}$). Our results support the existence of a mechanism linking $v\sin(i)$ to the presence of accreting protoplanetary disks, responsible for regulating stellar rotation in timescales of about 6 Myr, which is the timescale in which most of the T Tauri stars lose their inner disk. Our view of the variety of stellar structures pervading the local Milky Way has been transformed by the application of clustering algorithms to the Gaia catalog. In particular, several stellar streams have been recently discovered that are comprised of hundreds to thousands of stars and span several hundred parsecs. We analyze one such structure, Theia 456, a low-density stellar stream extending nearly 200 pc and 20$^{\circ}$ across the sky. By supplementing Gaia astrometric data with spectroscopic metallicities from LAMOST and photometric rotation periods from the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) and the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), we establish Theia 456's radial velocity coherence, and we find strong evidence that members of Theia 456 have a common age ($\simeq$175 Myr), common dynamical origin, and formed from chemically homogeneous pre-stellar material ([Fe/H] = $-$0.07 dex). Unlike well-known stellar streams in the Milky Way, which are in its halo, Theia 456 is firmly part of the thin disk. If our conclusions about Theia 456 can be applied to even a small fraction of the remaining $\simeq$8300 independent structures in the Theia catalog, such low-density stellar streams may be ubiquitous. APOGEE-2 is a dual-hemisphere, near-infrared (NIR), spectroscopic survey with the goal of producing a chemo-dynamical mapping of the Milky Way Galaxy. The targeting for APOGEE-2 is complex and has evolved with time. In this paper, we present the updates and additions to the initial targeting strategy for APOGEE-2N presented in Zasowski et al. (2017). These modifications come in two implementation modes: (i) "Ancillary Science Programs" competitively awarded to SDSS-IV PIs through proposal calls in 2015 and 2017 for the pursuit of new scientific avenues outside the main survey, and (ii) an effective 1.5-year expansion of the survey, known as the Bright Time Extension, made possible through accrued efficiency gains over the first years of the APOGEE-2N project. For the 23 distinct ancillary programs, we provide descriptions of the scientific aims, target selection, and how to identify these targets within the APOGEE-2 sample. The Bright Time Extension permitted changes to the main survey strategy, the inclusion of new programs in response to scientific discoveries or to exploit major new datasets not available at the outset of the survey design, and expansions of existing programs to enhance their scientific success and reach. After describing the motivations, implementation, and assessment of these programs, we also leave a summary of lessons learned from nearly a decade of APOGEE-1 and APOGEE-2 survey operations. We present the orbital solution of a peculiar double-lined spectroscopic and eclipsing binary system, 2M17091769+3127589. This solution was obtained by a simultaneous fit of both APOGEE radial velocities and TESS and ASAS-SN light curves to determine masses and radii. This system consists of an $M=0.256^{+0.010}_{-0.006}$ $M_\odot$, $R=3.961^{+0.049}_{-0.032}$ $R_{\odot}$ red giant and a hotter $M=1.518 ^{+0.057}_{-0.031}$ $M_\odot$, $R=2.608^{+0.034}_{-0.321}$ $R_{\odot}$ subgiant. Modelling with the MESA evolutionary codes indicates that the system likely formed 5.26 Gyrs ago, with a $M=1.2$ $M_\odot$ primary that is now the system's red giant and a $M=1.11$ $M_\odot$ secondary that is now a more massive subgiant. Due to Roche-lobe overflow as the primary ascends the red giant branch, the more evolved "primary" (i.e., originally the more massive star of the pair) is now only one-sixth as massive as the "secondary". Such a difference between the initial and the current mass ratio is one of the most extreme detected so far. Evolutionary modelling suggests the system is still engaged in mass transfer, at a rate of $\dot{M} \sim 10^{-9}$ $M_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$, and it provides an example of a less evolved precursor to some of the systems that consist of white dwarfs and blue stragglers., Comment: Accepted to AJ; 12 pages, 8 figures

APOGEE spectra offer $\lesssim$1 km s$^{-1}$ precision in the measurement of stellar radial velocities (RVs). This holds even when multiple stars are captured in the same spectrum, as happens most commonly with double-lined spectroscopic binaries (SB2s), although random line of sight alignments of unrelated stars can also occur. We develop a code that autonomously identifies SB2s and higher order multiples in the APOGEE spectra, resulting in 7273 candidate SB2s, 813 SB3s, and 19 SB4s. We estimate the mass ratios of binaries, and for a subset of these systems with sufficient number of measurements we perform a complete orbital fit, confirming that most systems with period $<$10 days have circularized. Overall, we find a SB2 fraction ($F_{SB2}$) $\sim$3\% among main sequence dwarfs, and that there is not a significant trend in $F_{SB2}$ with temperature of a star. We are also able to recover a higher $F_{SB2}$ in sources with lower metallicity, however there are some observational biases. We also examine light curves from TESS to determine which of these spectroscopic binaries are also eclipsing. Such systems, particularly those that are also pre- and post-main sequence, are good candidates for a follow-up analysis to determine their masses and temperatures., Comment: Accepted to AJ. 23 pages, 17 figures

We present a catalog of 167 newly discovered, irregular variables spanning a $\sim$7 deg${^2}$ area that encompasses the G 305 star-forming complex, one of the most luminous giant H II regions in the Galaxy. We aim to unveil and characterize the young stellar object (YSO) population of the region by analyzing the $K_{\rm s}$-band variability and $JHK_{\rm s}$ infrared colors from the {\it VISTA Variables in the V\'ia L\'actea} (VVV) survey. Additionally, SDSS-IV APOGEE-2 infrared spectra of selected objects are analyzed. The sample show relatively high amplitudes ($0.661<\Delta K_{\rm S} <3.521$ mag). Most of them resemble sources with outbursts with amplitude $>1$ mag and duration longer than a few days, typically at least a year, known as {\it Eruptive Variables}. About 60% are likely to be Class II/Flat/I objects. This is also confirmed by the spectral index $\alpha$ when available. From the analysis of APOGEE-2 near-infrared spectra of sources in the region, another 122 stars are classified as YSOs, and displays some infrared variability. The measured effective temperature $T_{\rm eff}$ peak is around 4000K and they are slightly super-solar in metal abundance. The modal radial velocity is approximately $-$41 km/s. Combining available catalogs of YSOs in the region with our data, we investigate the spatial distributions of 700 YSOs. They are clearly concentrated within the central cavity formed by the massive clusters Danks 1 and 2. The calculated surface density for the entire catalog is 0.025 YSOs/pc$^{-2}$, while the central cavity contains 10 times more objects per area (0.238 YSOs/pc$^{-2}$)., Comment: 22 pages, 13 figures

We calculated physical and orbital properties for 2M06464003+0109157, a 1.06 day eclipsing double lined spectroscopic binary. We modelled the system's ASAS-SN and TESS light curves, measuring the system's inclination and radii of each component. Extracting radial velocities for each component from 6 SDSS/APOGEE spectra, we measured the system's mass ratio and performed a full orbital fit. Our analysis indicates that 2M06464003+0109157 has components with nearly equal masses ($m_1/m_2 =0.99 \pm 0.01$; $M_1{_,}{_2} = 0.57 \pm 0.015$ M$_\odot$) and comparable radii ($R_1 = 0.66 \pm 0.05$ R$_\odot$, $R_2 = 0.57 \pm 0.06$ R$_\odot$). The solution required two star spots to incorporate the out of eclipse variation that is seen in the light curve. We study protostellar envelope and outflow evolution using Hubble Space Telescope NICMOS or WFC3 images of 304 protostars in the Orion Molecular clouds. These near-IR images resolve structures in the envelopes delineated by the scattered light of the central protostars with 80 AU resolution and they complement the 1.2-870 micron spectral energy distributions obtained with the Herschel Orion Protostar Survey program (HOPS). Based on their 1.60 micron morphologies, we classify the protostars into five categories: non-detections, point sources without nebulosity, bipolar cavity sources, unipolar cavity sources, and irregulars. We find point sources without associated nebulosity are the most numerous, and show through monochromatic Monte Carlo radiative transfer modeling that this morphology occurs when protostars are observed at low inclinations or have low envelope densities. We also find that the morphology is correlated with the SED-determined evolutionary class with Class 0 protostars more likely to be non-detections, Class I protostars to show cavities and flat-spectrum protostars to be point sources. Using an edge detection algorithm to trace the projected edges of the cavities, we fit power-laws to the resulting cavity shapes, thereby measuring the cavity half-opening angles and power-law exponents. We find no evidence for the growth of outflow cavities as protostars evolve through the Class I protostar phase, in contradiction with previous studies of smaller samples. We conclude that the decline of mass infall with time cannot be explained by the progressive clearing of envelopes by growing outflow cavities. Furthermore, the low star formation efficiency inferred for molecular cores cannot be explained by envelope clearing alone.

As many as 10\% of OB-type stars have global magnetic fields, which is surprising given their internal structure is radiative near the surface. A direct probe of internal structure is pulsations, and some OB-type stars exhibit pressure modes ($\beta$ Cep pulsators) or gravity modes (slowly pulsating B-type stars; SPBs); a few rare cases of hybrid $\beta$ Cep/SPBs occupy a narrow instability strip in the H-R diagram. The most precise fundamental properties of stars are obtained from eclipsing binaries (EBs), and those in clusters with known ages and metallicities provide the most stringent constraints on theory. Here we report the discovery that HD 149834 in the $\sim$5 Myr cluster NGC 6193 is an EB comprising a hybrid $\beta$ Cep/SPB pulsator and a highly irradiated low-mass companion. We determine the masses, radii, and temperatures of both stars; the $\sim$9.7 M$_\odot$ primary resides in the instability strip where hybrid pulsations are theoretically predicted. The presence of both SPB and $\beta$ Cep pulsations indicates that the system has a near-solar metallicity, and is in the second half of the main-sequence lifetime. The radius of the $\sim$1.2 M$_\odot$ companion is consistent with theoretical pre-main-sequence isochrones at 5 Myr, but its temperature is much higher than expected, perhaps due to irradiation by the primary. The radius of the primary is larger than expected, unless its metallicity is super-solar. Finally, the light curve shows residual modulation consistent with the rotation of the primary, and Chandra observations reveal a flare, both of which suggest the presence of starspots and thus magnetism on the primary., Comment: Accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal, 15 pages, 14 figures

Stars form in molecular clouds in the interstellar medium (ISM) with a turbulent kinematic state. Newborn stars therefore should retain the turbulent kinematics of their natal clouds. Gaia DR2 and APOGEE-2 surveys in combination provide three-dimensional (3D) positions and 3D velocities of young stars in the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex. Using the full 6D measurements, we compute the velocity structure functions (VSFs) of the stars in six different groups within the Orion Complex. We find that the motions of stars in all diffuse groups exhibit strong characteristics of turbulence. Their first-order VSFs have a power-law exponent ranging from $\sim0.2-0.5$ on scales of a few to a few tens of pc, generally consistent with Larson's relation. On the other hand, dense star clusters, such as the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC), have experienced rapid dynamical relaxation, and have lost the memory of the initial turbulent kinematics. The VSFs of several individual groups and the whole Complex all show features supporting local energy injection from supernovae. The measured strength of turbulence depends on the location relative to the supernova epicenters and the formation history of the groups. Our detection of turbulence traced by young stars introduces a new method of probing the turbulent kinematics of the ISM. We present analyses of near-infrared, spectroscopic data from the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE) survey for 45 previously confirmed or candidate white dwarf-main sequence (WDMS) binaries identified by the optical SDSS and LAMOST surveys. Among these 45 systems, we classify three as having red giant primaries in the LAMOST sample and fourteen to be young stellar object contaminants in the photometrically identified SDSS sample. From among the subsample of 28 systems that we confirm to have MS primaries, we derive and place limits on orbital periods and velocity amplitudes for fourteen. Seven systems have significant velocity variations that warrant a post-common-envelope (PCE) binary classification -- four of which are newly classified, three of which are newly confirmed, and five for which we can derive full orbital parameters. If confirmed, one of these newly discovered systems (2M14544500+4626456) will have the second longest orbital period reported for a typical, compact PCE WDMS binary ($P=15.1$ days). In addition to the seven above, we also recover and characterize with APOGEE data the well known PCE WDMS systems EG UMa and HZ 9. We also investigate the overall metallicity distribution of the WDMS sample, which is a parameter space not often explored for these systems. Of note, we find one system (2M14244053+4929580) to be extremely metal-poor (${\rm [Fe/H]}=-1.42$) relative to the rest of the near-solar sample. Additionally, the PCE systems in our sample are found to be, on average, higher in metallicity than their wide-binary counterparts, though we caution that with this small number of systems, the sample may not be representative of the overall distribution of WDMS systems., Comment: 19 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication by AJ

A reliable census of pre-main sequence stars with known ages is critical to our understanding of early stellar evolution, but historically there has been difficulty in separating such stars from the field. We present a trained neural network model, Sagitta, that relies on Gaia DR2 and 2MASS photometry to identify pre-main sequence stars and to derive their age estimates. Our model successfully recovers populations and stellar properties associated with known star forming regions up to five kpc. Furthermore, it allows for a detailed look at the star-forming history of the solar neighborhood, particularly at age ranges to which we were not previously sensitive. HD 54236 is a nearby, wide common-proper-motion visual pair that has been previously identified as likely being very young by virtue of strong X-ray emission and lithium absorption. Here we report the discovery that the brighter member of the wide pair, HD~54236A, is itself an eclipsing binary (EB), comprising two near-equal solar-mass stars on a 2.4 d orbit. It represents a potentially valuable opportunity to expand the number of benchmark-grade EBs at young stellar ages. Using new observations of Ca2H&K emission and lithium absorption in the wide K-dwarf companion, HD 54236B, we obtain a robust age estimate of 225 +/- 50 Myr for the system. This age estimate and Gaia proper motions show HD 54236 is associated with Theia~301, a newly discovered local "stellar string", which itself may be related to the AB Dor moving group through shared stellar members. Applying this age estimate to AB~Dor itself alleviates reported tension between observation and theory that arises for the luminosity of the 90M_Jup star/brown dwarf AB Dor C when younger age estimates are used., Comment: 23 pages, 19 figures, accepted to Astronomical Journal

The Orion Complex is a notable star forming region, that it is fragmented into several different populations that have substantial difference in their phase space. I propose a model that attempts to explain the how the Complex has evolved to this current configuration. In this model, the large scale expansion can be attributable to a supernova that has exploded 6 Myr ago. The remnant of which can be seen as Barnard's loop, as the center of the expansion is consistent with the geometrical center of the HII bubble. This is similar to the HII bubble and the ballistic expansion that is associated with $\lambda$ Ori, a region which has also been a site of an ancient supernova. Assuming that the Orion Complex has originally been forming as one long filament spanning from the bottom of Orion A to $\psi^2$ Ori (or, potentially, as far as $\lambda$ Ori), Barnard's loop supernova could have split the cloud, which lead to the formation of Orion C \& D. Furthermore, the shockwave that has propagated into the filament could have swept along the gas through several pc, which lead to the formation of the singularly most massive cluster in the Solar Neighborhood, the ONC. We use observations from the APOGEE survey to explore the relationship between stellar parameters and multiplicity. We combine high-resolution repeat spectroscopy for 41,363 dwarf and subgiant stars with abundance measurements from the APOGEE pipeline and distances and stellar parameters derived using \textit{Gaia} DR2 parallaxes from \cite{Sanders2018} to identify and characterise stellar multiples with periods below 30 years, corresponding to \drvm$\gtrsim$ 3 \kms, where \drvm\ is the maximum APOGEE-detected shift in the radial velocities. Chemical composition is responsible for most of the variation in the close binary fraction in our sample, with stellar parameters like mass and age playing a secondary role. In addition to the previously identified strong anti-correlation between the close binary fraction and \feh\, we find that high abundances of $\alpha$ elements also suppress multiplicity at most values of \feh\ sampled by APOGEE. The anti-correlation between $\alpha$ abundances and multiplicity is substantially steeper than that observed for Fe, suggesting C, O, and Si in the form of dust and ices dominate the opacity of primordial protostellar disks and their propensity for fragmentation via gravitational stability. Near \feh{} = 0 dex, the bias-corrected close binary fraction ($a<10$ au) decreases from $\approx$ 100 per cent at \alh{} = $-$0.2 dex to $\approx$ 15 per cent near \alh{} = 0.08 dex, with a suggestive turn-up to $\approx$20 per cent near \alh{} = 0.2. We conclude that the relationship between stellar multiplicity and chemical composition for sun-like dwarf stars in the field of the Milky Way is complex, and that this complexity should be accounted for in future studies of interacting binaries., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, plus appendices; accepted to MNRAS

FU Orionis objects (FUors) are rapidly-accreting, pre-main sequence objects that are known to exhibit large outbursts at optical and near-infrared wavelengths, with post-eruption, small-scale photometric variability superimposed on longer-term trends. In contrast, little is known about the variability of FUors at longer wavelengths. To explore this further, we observed six FUor objects using the NOrthern Extended Millimeter Array (NOEMA) and for a subset of three objects we obtained coordinated observations with NOEMA and the Lowell Discovery Telescope (LDT). In combination with previously published NOEMA observations from 2014, our 2017 observations of V1735 Cyg provide the first detection of variability in an FUor object at 2.7 mm. In the absence of significant optical variability, we discount the possibility that the mm flux density changed as a result of irradiation from the central disk. In addition, a change in the dust mass due to infall is highly unlikely. A plausible explanation for the change in 2.7 mm flux density is variability in free-free emission due to changes in the object's jet/wind. Thus, it may be that free-free emission in some FUor objects is significant at $\sim$3 mm and must be considered when deriving disk masses in order to help constrain the mechanism responsible for triggering FUor outbursts., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, to be published in The Astrophysical Journal

We present the results of the hierarchical clustering analysis of the Gaia DR2 data to search for clusters, co-moving groups, and other stellar structures. The current paper builds on the sample from the previous work, extending it in distance from 1 kpc to 3 kpc, increasing the number of identified structures up to 8292. To aid in the analysis of the population properties, we developed a neural network called Auriga to robustly estimate the age, extinction, and distance of a stellar group based on the input photometry and parallaxes of the individual members. We apply Auriga to derive the properties of not only the structures found in this paper, but also previously identified open clusters. Through this work, we examine the temporal structure of the spiral arms. Specifically, we find that the Sagittarius arm has moved by >500 pc in the last 100 Myr, and the Perseus arm has been experiencing a relative lull in star formation activity over the last 25 Myr. We confirm the findings from the previous paper on the transient nature of the spiral arms, with the timescale of transition of a few 100 Myr. Finally, we find a peculiar ~1 Gyr old stream of stars that appears to be heliocentric. It is unclear what is the origin of it., Comment: 25 pages, 17 figures, Accepted to AJ.
