The purpose of this study was to explore teachers' perceptions and patterns of their activities on a participatory platform for cultural heritage content creation and dissemination. Using a convenience sample of participants, eight in-service teachers enrolled in a postgraduate program were invited to the study. Qualitative research methods were used, including (a) interviews with in-service teachers, (b) focus group discussions with two randomly selected teachers, the instructor of the course and an ICT expert as a digital content evaluator, and (c) observation of teachers' activities patterns on the participatory Culture Gate platform. The results of this study highlight, as well as encourage discussion on how teachers can learn through online collaboration and also aims to identify factors connected with teachers' professional development within a pedagogic framework.

Preprocessing electroencephalographic (EEG) signals during computer-mediated Cognitive Load tasks is crucial in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). This process significantly influences subsequent EEG analysis and the efficacy of Artificial Intelligence (AI) models employed in Cognitive Load Assessment. Consequently, it stands as an indispensable procedure for developing dependable systems capable of adapting to users’ cognitive capacities and constraints. We systematically analyzed fifty-seven (57) research papers on computer-mediated Cognitive Load EEG experiments published between 2018 and 2023. The preprocessing methods identified were multiple, controversial, and strongly dependent on the particularities of each experiment and the derived experimental dataset. Our investigation involved the meticulous classification of preprocessing methods based on distinct parameters, namely the degree of user intervention, the noise level, and the subject pool size. Particular attention was paid to semi-automated denoising technology since conventional methods, advanced approaches, and standardized pipelines overwhelm research, but no optimum solution is available yet. This survey is anticipated to provide a valuable contribution to the rising demand for an efficient and fully automated preprocessing approach in EEG-based computerized Cognitive Load experiments.

Digital technologies nowadays provide essential support for companies, making them a priority for businesses and a prominent area of study for researchers. In response to the increasing emphasis on sustainability and resilience, new information systems are developing to meet evolving business needs, namely circular and resilient information systems (CRISs). These systems integrate with traditional ones to optimise key performance indicators (KPIs) related to circularity and resiliency. Despite extensive methodologies for evaluating traditional information systems, systems designed for circularity and resiliency need to be assessed in parallel and in depth. Existing evaluations focus on efficiency and user satisfaction but often neglect the unique demands of circularity and resiliency. This study introduces a novel evaluation methodology for CRISs. Through a case study of an innovative system and the established literature, we address real-life needs and challenges in manufacturing. In particular, the system serves the needs of three distinct case studies: Carbon Fibre-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) waste utilisation in drone manufacturing, recovery of magnets from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), and the repurposing of citrus processing waste into juice by-products. Our methodology is built on the 5W1H method to make our approach context-specific and aligned with each case’s unique requirements, making it also replicable for other industries. Our findings offer insights and a tool for practitioners and researchers to evaluate CRIS performance. The research highlights the importance of a two-fold evaluation approach for CRISs, evaluating both pilot-specific KPIs and the system’s technical performance. Policy implications suggest the need for regulatory frameworks and incentives to support the adoption, as well as evaluation, of CRISs and promote sustainable and resilient industrial practices.

Recommendation systems are widely used in tourism in order to provide people personalized suggestions that would make their trip memorable. Nowadays, mobile assisted guided tours based on recommendation services are used in museums to enhance visitors ’ experience. However, all those systems have been designed to target indoor or outdoor museum visits. Is it feasible to design a system that supports mobile services that connect a museum visit to artworks situated outdoor in the city environment? Is it possible to connect the artworks of a city center to the exhibits of a museum? In this work, we attempt to give a first answer to such questions proposing and implementing a set of services that connects the museum to the city public space. In order to show the strength of the implemented services, we present a basic usage scenario along with a first system evaluation showing positive results.

Public campaigns offer an opportunity to prevent child sexual abuse by raising awareness and promoting help available to bystanders, victims, and those at risk of perpetrating the abuse. This paper explores the impact of The Lucy Faithfull Foundation's 'Stop It Now!' campaign in the UK (2015–2018) on help-seeking. Helpline calls (11,190 unique callers), website analytics (109,432 new website visitors) and three website-hosted surveys (N = 252) provided data on help-seeking, awareness, and self-reported behavior. Results indicated that there were more visitors to the help website during active campaigning periods, and helpline callers and website visitors were more likely to seek help after viewing campaign materials during active than non-active campaign periods. Help-seekers were predominantly men concerned about their own behavior. Survey 2 respondents concerned about their own behavior (n = 53) indicated that their awareness of the law (75.5%), and legal and personal consequences (67.9%) had changed after hearing about the campaign, and 66% reported a change in behavior. Their insight on BLS courses was also assessed. Answers were collected during June 2020.Results: Out of 5513 certified providers, 25.53% completed the survey. The majority (83.36%) would provide CPR to a cardiac arrest victim with possible or confirmed Covid-19 infection. Regarding the use of an automated external defibrillator, most respondents anticipated that it is equally safe as in the pre-Covid-19 period (58.24%). A more elementary level of education (p = 0.04) made rescuers more willing to provide CPR. Access to the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) or to the Greek National Public Health Organization (NPHO) guidelines was not correlated to the attitude towards resuscitation. Time since the last BLS seminar had no impact on the rescuers’ attitude (p = 0.72). All responders agreed that training in CPR during Covid-19 remains necessary.Conclusion: Certified BLS providers maintained their willingness to perform CPR in cardiac arrest victims even during the pre-vaccine, dangerous Covid-19 pandemic period. Knowledge regarding Covid-19 CPR was satisfactory; however, continuous training, focused on the revised algorithms, was considered essential.Keywords: BLS, covid-19, resuscitation, survey

Nowadays there is a tremendous effort to enhance educational procedure with the incorporation of new technologies aiming at the better understanding of educational material from students. In this direction many theories have been developed, some of which have been implemented into digital systems. A challenge here is to develop a system that integrates more than one of such theories in a harmonic way for the benefit of student community. In this work we attempt to give an answer to this challenge proposing a novel system that integrates the main characteristics of three well-known educational theories: learning objects, collaborative learning and mobile learning in the context of cultural heritage teaching and learning. Evaluation results suggest that such an attempt is technically feasible, the integrated characteristics of the educational theories remain visible to educators of cultural heritage courses, while cultural heritage educators positively accept the potential incorporation of the platform in the educational procedure. Long COVID refers to patients with symptoms as fatigue, “brain fog,” pain, suggesting the chronic involvement of the central nervous system (CNS) in COVID-19. The supplementation with probiotic (OB) would have a positive effect on metabolic homeostasis, negatively impacting the occurrence of symptoms related to the CNS after hospital discharge. On a total of 58 patients hospitalized for COVID-19, 24 (41.4%) received OB during hospitalization (OB+) while 34 (58.6%) taken only the standard treatment (OB–). Serum metabolomic profiling of patients has been performed at both hospital acceptance (T0) and discharge (T1). Six months after discharge, fatigue perceived by participants was assessed by administrating the Fatigue Assessment Scale. 70.7% of participants reported fatigue while 29.3% were negative for such condition. The OB+ group showed a significantly lower proportion of subjects reporting fatigue than the OB– one (p < 0.01). Furthermore, OB+ subjects were characterized by significantly increased concentrations of serum Arginine, Asparagine, Lactate opposite to lower levels of 3-Hydroxyisobutirate than those not treated with probiotics. Our results strongly suggest that in COVID-19, the administration of probiotics during hospitalization may prevent the development of chronic fatigue by impacting key metabolites involved in the utilization of glucose as well as in energy pathways.

Suicide ideation and behaviors are major health issues in the field of mental health. Several psychological and psychosocial factors have been taken into account as possible predictors of suicidality. Only recently affective temperaments have been considered as possible factors linked to suicide. This study aims to investigate the relationship between affective temperaments and suicidality, including the lifetime onset of suicide ideation, lifetime presence of suicide attempts and the total number of lifetime suicide attempts. This is a naturalistic multicentric observational study, involving outpatient units of seven University sites in Italy. Patients were administered with the short version of TEMPS-M and the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale. A total of 653 participants were recruited, with a diagnosis of bipolar (55.7%), unipolar (35.8%) and cyclothymic disorder (8.4%). Regression models showed that the presence of lifetime suicide behaviors was increased in patients presenting trait related impulsivity (p < 0.0001), poor free-interval functioning (p < 0.05), higher number of affective episodes (p < 0.01), higher number of hospitalizations (p < 0.0001), cyclothymic and irritable affective temperaments (p < 0.05 and p < 0.05, respectively). Conversely, the presence of hyperthymic affective disposition reduced the likelihood of having suicidal behaviors (p < 0.01). Lifetime suicidal ideation was associated with trait-related impulsivity (p < 0.001), poor free-interval functioning (p < 0.05), higher number of affective episodes (p < 0.001) and of hospitalizations (p < 0.001). Depressive temperaments increased the likelihood of presenting suicidal ideation (p < 0.05), along with irritable temperaments (p < 0.01), contrary to hyperthymic affective (p < 0.05). Results of the present study confirm that affective disposition has a significant impact on the onset of suicidal ideation and behaviors, and that affective dispositions should be assessed in clinical settings to identify people at risk of suicide. Moreover, a wider clinical evaluation, including different clinical psychopathological dimensions, should be taken into consideration to develop effective preventive interventions.
