Pour contribuer à la lutte contre la maladie de l’enroulement jaunissant des feuilles de la tomate, un programme de recherche a été initié en Côte d’Ivoire. L’influence des paramètres climatiques sur l’évolution des populations du vecteur de cette maladie virale, la mouche blanche (Bemisia tabaci Genn.) a été évaluée à la Station de Recherche sur les Cultures Vivrières du Centre National de Recherche Agronomique à Bouaké à travers six différentes dates de semis de décembre 2000 à février 2002. Cinq variétés de tomate dont un témoin local ont été testées selon un dispositif en blocs de Fisher répété quatre fois. L’analyse de variance, l’analyse en composantes principales, la corrélation linéaire de Pearson et la régression linéaire ont permis d’analyser les données collectées. Les résultats ont montré une significative influence des trois paramètres climatiques sur les populations de l’insecte. Le modèle linéaire double constitué du couple température moyenne et pluviométrie et du nombre d’adultes et de larves, a été celui qui a mieux décrit les fluctuations des adultes et des larves. Ce modèle a en effet expliqué 35,80% des fluctuations des populations adultes et 43,20% de celles des larves montrant ainsi l’influence du climat sur l’insecte. English Title: Influence of some climatic parameters on the numbers of Bemisia tabaci on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)To contribute to the fight against the Tomato yellow leaf curl disease of tomato, a research program has been initiated in Côte d’Ivoire. The influence of climatic parameters on the evolution of populations of the vector of this viral disease, the whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn.) was evaluated at the Food Crops Research Station of the National Agronomic Research Center in Bouaké through six different sowing dates from December 2000 to February 2002. Five varieties of tomato, including a local control, were tested in a Fisher block design repeated four times. Analysis of variance, principal component analysis, Pearson linear correlation, and linear regression were applied to the collected data. The results showed a significant influence of the three climatic parameters on the populations of the insect. The linear double model of the mean temperature and rainfall pair and the number of adults and larvae best described the fluctuations in adults and larvae. This model explained 35.80% of fluctuations in adult populations and 43.20% of those of larvae, thus showing the influence of climate on whitefly in Côte d’Ivoire.Keywords: Whitefly, tomato, variety, sowing date, Tomato yellow leaf curl, Côte d’Ivoire.

Garcinia kola is used as chew-stick for dental care in West Africa. The species is nearly commercially extinct in nature, and its propagation is hampered by seed germination problems. The current study investigated seed germination responses of Garcinia kola at different maturity stage. The experiments were conducted at the Central Laboratory of Biotechnology of the Centre National de Recherche Agronomique (CNRA) located at Adiopodoume (North Abidjan - Cote d’Ivoire) while the fruit samples were collected from Yapo a protected forest area with very humid equatorial climate. The experimental design was factorial design with two factors. Seeds processed from green fruits of 6 weeks old did not germinate, whilst those of 10 weeks old fruits, at the intermediate stage, germinated at the rate of 46%. Seeds from orange-coloured mature fruits had a germination rate of 54 to 62%. The adventitious roots of intermediate maturity seeds protruded at the same time as mature ones after 9 weeks of sowing and normal germination, with first shoot growth occurring simultaneously after 12 weeks in the two (intermediate maturity and full maturity) stage of fruits. Desiccation tests after 4 weeks revealed similar trends of weight decrease and moisture content in the two kinds of seed. Seeds from partly intermediate mature fruits showed germinating characteristics comparable to mature fruits. These indicate that the seeds from this stage could be used to germinate Garcinia kola Heckel, for conservation, post harvesting and commercial purposes. Recent studies in the Nawa region of Cote d’Ivoire have indicated an acute malnutrition rate of 11.3% among cocoa producers. One of recommended actions from the studies was to diversify agriculture with nutrients rich crops. Introduction of soybean (Glycine max) cropping system could go a long way to ensure food and nutritional security in the region. The current study was conducted in two sites (Logboayo and Soubre) in the south-west of Cote d’Ivoire, to evaluate the effect of IRAT-FA3 Bradyrhizobium japonicum strain inoculum on the agronomic performance of five varieties of soybean named Doko, Canarana, V3_2013, V6_2013 and IT_235. As population estimates for 2050 reach over 9 billion, issues of food security and nutrition have been dominating academic and policy debates. A total of 805 million people are undernourished worldwide and malnutrition affects nearly every country on the planet. Despite impressive productivity increases, there is growing evidence that conventional agricultural strategies fall short of eliminating global hunger, as well as having long-term ecological consequences. Forests can play an important role in complementing agricultural production to address the Sustainable Development Goals on zero hunger. Forests and trees can be managed to provide better and more nutritionally-balanced diets, greater control over food inputs–particularly during lean seasons and periods of vulnerability (especially for marginalised groups)–and deliver ecosystem services for crop production. However forests are undergoing a rapid process of degradation, a complex process that governments are struggling to reverse. Forests have huge potential to reduce global hunger and malnutrition. The Soudano-Sahelian environment has been shaped by human practices responding to changes in urban demands, public policies and climatic variability. In a context of exposure to multiples changes and stressors, people have developed coping and adapting livelihoods strategies based on the diversity of ecosystems in their territories or the surroundings (permanent agricultural fields under parklands, temporary fields, fallows, savannas and grassland). This paper aims at analyzing to what extent tree ecosystems act as safety nets for people to meet their needs in Burkina Faso. We analyzed vulnerability through surveys at farm and individual levels and we assessed the woody resource in villages' territories. We selected villages with different levels of woody resources availability and different levels of right and access to these resources. Initial results show that people's coping or adapting strategies rely barely on woody resources and that households and individuals with different access to resources use almost similar strategies. Although most local people claim that deforestation is affecting livelihoods, it seems that most livelihoods are adapting to the loss of woody resources by developing strategies that rely on the diversity of ecological assets in landscapes as well as other human and social assets.
