Abstract All-solid-state lithium–sulfur batteries exhibit high energy densities, operate safely, and suppress polysulfide shuttling. However, their electrochemical performance is restricted by the insulating nature of sulfur and Li2S, and by severe cathode-related volumetric changes during cycling. Here, we prepare a Li2S-based cathode composite with high mixed-conductivity and stability, by infiltrating a Li2S–LiI active material solution into a mesoporous carbon replica with ~10-nm-sized pores, followed by mixing with a liquid-phase-synthesized Li6PS5Br solid electrolyte and vapour-grown carbon fibres. Benefiting from a mechanically reinforced, three-dimensional ion/electron-conducting structure, the cathode exhibits high discharge capacity (1009 mAh g−1, 20 cycles, 298 K, 0.05 C) and high reversible capacity (650 mAh g−1, 100 cycles, 298 K, 0.1 C). These findings underscore the feasibility of developing high-performance all-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries by designing three-dimensional mixed-conducting mechanically robust cathodes.

Key Clinical Message The newly‐proposed tandem approach, Wire ThRoUgh Snare Twice (Wire TRUST) is effective for grasping a lead with inaccessible ends. This case report shows that Wire TRUST can also enable successful extraction of a left ventricular lead by iteratively grasping and repositioning to the distal portion of the lead.

Abstract Information on the cathode/organic–electrolyte interface structure provides clues regarding the rate and reversibility of lithium intercalation reactions in lithium‐ion batteries. Herein, structural changes within the LiCoO2 electrode, throughout the interphase region, and in the LiPF6/propylene carbonate electrolyte are observed concurrently by in situ neutron reflectometry. The formation of an electrical double layer (EDL) during the early stages of charging and discharging is investigated and compared with that at an intercalation‐inactive Nb:SrTiO3 electrode. At the intercalation‐inactive interface between Nb:SrTiO3 and the electrolyte, a voltage‐dependent ionic distribution corresponding to the EDL forms on the electrolyte side without the formation of a cathode/electrolyte interphase (CEI) layer. In contrast, at the intercalation‐active LiCoO2/electrolyte interface, a CEI layer forms immediately after cell construction, and the ionic distribution in the electrolyte formed outside the CEI layer scarcely changes upon voltage application. The CEI/electrolyte interface is shielded from potential changes by the electronically insulating CEI; therefore, structural changes in the EDL are restricted. This supports the prevailing understanding that the CEI layer defines the rates of solvation/de‐solvation and adsorption/desorption reactions of lithium ions.

Abstract A passive, low‐cost, paper‐based intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is designed to reflect a signal in a desired direction to overcome non‐line‐of‐sight scenarios in indoor environments. The IRS is fabricated using conductive silver ink printed on paper with a specific nanoparticle arrangement, yielding a cost‐effective paper‐based IRS that can easily be mass‐produced. Full‐wave numerical simulation results were consistent with measurement results, demonstrating the IRS's ability to reflect incident waves into a desired nonspecular direction based on the inkjet‐printed design and materials.

Sign language recognition is crucial for improving communication accessibility for the hearing impaired community and reducing dependence on human interpreters. Notably, while significant research efforts have been devoted to many prevalent languages, Korean Sign Language (KSL) remains relatively underexplored, particularly concerning dynamic signs and generalizability. The scarcity of KSL datasets has exacerbated this limitation, hindering progress. Furthermore, most KSL research predominantly relies on static image-based datasets for recognition, leading to diminished accuracy and the inability to detect dynamic sign words. Additionally, existing KSL recognition systems grapple with suboptimal performance accuracy and heightened computational complexity, further emphasizing the existing research gap. To address these formidable challenges, we propose a robust dynamic KSL recognition system that combines a skeleton-based Graph Convolution network with an attention-based neural network, effectively bridging the gap. Our solution employs a two-stream deep learning network to navigate the intricacies of dynamic signs, enhancing accuracy by effectively handling non-connected joint skeleton features. In this system, the first stream meticulously processes 47 pose landmarks using the Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) to extract graph-based features. These features are meticulously refined through a channel attention module and a general CNN, enhancing their temporal context. Concurrently, the second stream focuses on joint motion-based features, employing a similar approach. Subsequently, these distinct features from both streams are harmoniously integrated and channelled through a classification module to achieve precise sign-word recognition. A significant contribution of our work lies in creating a novel KSL video dataset, addressing the scarcity of data in this domain. This dataset comprises comprehensive information, including skeletal data from 47 joint skeleton points and details from both hands, body, and facial expressions. Our dataset aims to fill a critical gap in KSL research and provides a solid foundation for more extensive and inclusive studies in the field. Through this innovative approach, we aim to contribute significantly to the field of KSL recognition, filling the gaps in dynamic sign recognition and bolstering the accessibility of sign language communication within the Korean hearing impaired community and beyond. Our evaluations on a benchmark KSL-77 dataset and our proprietary lab dataset resulted in recognition accuracies of 99.87% and 100%, respectively. These results highlight the superiority of our model in the KSL recognition domain, outperforming existing models in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency.

An integrated scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq analysis of retina from the goldfish, Carassius auratus, reveals global biases in expression patterns between the two (L and S) subgenomes that resulted from ancestral whole-genome duplication.

A thin-film battery composed of a LiFePO4 cathode/Li3PO4 electrolyte/Li anode was fabricated on a Pt/Ti/Si (PTS) substrate via RF magnetron sputtering. The amorphous Li3PO4 film was densely stacked on a 60 nm-thick LiFePO4 film, which provided a suitable reaction field for understanding the electrochemical properties of LiFePO4 at the interface with the solid electrolyte. The LiFePO4 cathode film exhibited highly reversible lithium desertion/insertion at the interface at room temperature and 60 °C, without any side reactions. An irreversible oxidation reaction occurred during the initial charging process at 100 °C, leading to an increase in the charge-transfer resistance of the LiFePO4/Li3PO4 interface with no significant decrease in the lithium desertion/insertion capacity of LiFePO4. This result suggests the formation of a resistive interphase via the decomposition of Li3PO4 at 100 °C. A severe decrease in capacity is observed at 125 °C, which indicates the LiFePO4-side interface contributed to the side reactions. The film battery exhibits a severe decrease in capacity at 125 °C.

Electrocatalytic oxygen evolution is a key reaction for water splitting, but the detailed atomic structures of single-crystal electrodes under cycling conditions are still not fully understood. Here, the authors study the oxygen evolution activity on Pt(111) during potential cycling and find that the current density reaches a maximum in the third cycle and is nine times higher than that in the initial cycle, owing to a roughened Pt(111) surface and formation of islands and atomic vacancies in the second subsurface Pt layer.

The electronic structure evolution within a battery during cycling can provide crucial cues for its optimization, but insights on operando band structures are extremely challenging to obtain. Here, the authors determine the overall band structure of a model thin-film solid-state lithium battery via operando hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, considering the cathode and anode sides.

Despite major therapeutic advances, heart failure, as a non-communicable disease, remains a life-threatening disorder, with 26 million patients worldwide, causing more deaths than cancer. Therefore, novel strategies for the treatment of heart failure continue to be an important clinical need. Based on preclinical studies, allogenic human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocyte (hiPSC-CM) patches have been proposed as a potential therapeutic candidate for heart failure. We report the implantation of allogeneic hiPSC-CM patches in a patient with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ClinicalTrials.gov, #jRCT2053190081). The patches were produced under clinical-grade conditions and displayed cardiogenic phenotypes and safety in vivo (severe immunodeficient mice) without any genetic mutations in cancer-related genes. The patches were then implanted via thoracotomy into the left ventricle epicardium of the patient under immunosuppressive agents. Positron emission tomography and computed tomography confirmed the potential efficacy and did not detect tumorigenesis in either the heart or other organs. The clinical symptoms improved 6 months after surgery, without any major adverse events, suggesting that the patches were well-tolerated. Furthermore, changes in the wall motion in the transplanted site were recovered, suggesting a favorable prognosis and the potential tolerance to exercise. This study is the first report of a successful transplant of hiPSC-CMs for severe ischemic cardiomyopathy.

Human activities have been changing in conjunction with the status of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, with school closures and activity cancellations becoming commonplace. As such, the COVID-19 pandemic likely also has had a detrimental impact on the behavioral problems of children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD). In Japan, the government issued a stay-at-home order causing children to stop participating in school activities following the first declaration of a state of emergency (April 7 to May 25, 2020). During winter 2020, the stay-at-home order and school closures were lifted. Using longitudinal data of children with NDD, we compared the behavioral problems of children with NDD between October 1 and December 31, 2020 (i.e., winter 2020) with their behavioral problems before the COVID-19 pandemic (pre-COVID-19). In this study, 143 caregivers of children with NDD evaluated their behavioral problems using the Japanese version of the Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC-J) in the pre-COVID-19 period and winter 2020. We found no scores that were higher in winter 2020 compared to pre-COVID-19. Moreover, irritability and hyperactivity scores were significantly lower in winter 2020 compared to pre-COVID-19. These findings suggest weak negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the behavioral problems of children with NDD. In schools and clinical practice, children learned knowledge about COVID-19 and related preventive behaviors. Therefore, these practices may have alleviated the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children with NDD.

Sign language recognition (SLR) is one of the crucial applications of the hand gesture recognition and computer vision research domain. There are many researchers who have been working to develop a hand gesture-based SLR application for English, Turkey, Arabic, and other sign languages. However, few studies have been conducted on Korean sign language classification because few KSL datasets are publicly available. In addition, the existing Korean sign language recognition work still faces challenges in being conducted efficiently because light illumination and background complexity are the major problems in this field. In the last decade, researchers successfully applied a vision-based transformer for recognizing sign language by extracting long-range dependency within the image. Moreover, there is a significant gap between the CNN and transformer in terms of the performance and efficiency of the model. In addition, we have not found a combination of CNN and transformer-based Korean sign language recognition models yet. To overcome the challenges, we proposed a convolution and transformer-based multi-branch network aiming to take advantage of the long-range dependencies computation of the transformer and local feature calculation of the CNN for sign language recognition. We extracted initial features with the grained model and then parallelly extracted features from the transformer and CNN. After concatenating the local and long-range dependencies features, a new classification module was applied for the classification. We evaluated the proposed model with a KSL benchmark dataset and our lab dataset, where our model achieved 89.00% accuracy for 77 label KSL dataset and 98.30% accuracy for the lab dataset. The higher performance proves that the proposed model can achieve a generalized property with considerably less computational cost.

This study used a longitudinal method to investigate relations between motor abilities and mental health in young children. We analyzed longitudinal data of 38 Japanese children who were 3–6 years old. We administered the Movement Assessment Battery for Children–Second edition (MABC2) and Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) at 3–4 years and 5–6 years of age: MABC2 was used to evaluate each child’s motor ability; SDQ was used to assess the degree of their mental health difficulties and prosocial behavior. Logistic regression results indicated that the MABC2 score at 3–4 years can predict the risk of motor skill impairments at 5–6 years (adjusted odds ratio was 0.354). Motor ability assessed at 3–4 years, however, did not predict the risk of mental health problems at 5–6 years. Analyses of longitudinal quantitative changes in motor ability and mental health confirmed these results. Mental health problems that occurred at 5–6 years were related only to individual SDQ score differences at 3–4 years. The MABC2 total score at 3–4 years was not related to later prosocial behavior. Boys tended to obtain a lower MABC2 score at 5–6 years. Girls tended to obtain a higher SDQ prosocial score at 5–6 years. Results of this study suggest that motor skill impairment and SDQ-measured mental health are independent characteristics in young Japanese children aged 3–6 years.

Abstract Background In Japan, the mental health system has been shifting from hospitalization-based to community-based care; some organizations have gradually begun providing intensive case management (ICM) services. We developed an Intensive Case Management Screening Sheet (ICMSS) to screen for the need for ICM in people with mental illness. Methods The aim of this study was to examine the psychometric properties and discriminative ability of ICMSS. Subjects consisted of 911 people with mental illness. The ICMSS score was rated by a professional such as a nurse, social worker, or occupational therapist. Results Exploratory factor analysis showed a one-factor structure with 14 items. The factor structure was supported by confirmatory factor analysis (comparative fit index, 0.98; Tucker–Lewis index, 0.97; root mean square error test of close fit, 0.05). In the receiver operating characteristic analysis for discriminating between users and non-users of ICM services, the area under the curve (AUC) for ICMSS was significantly larger than for Global Assessment of Functioning and Personal and Social Performance Scale, indicating better discriminative ability. However, the AUC for ICMSS was moderate. Thus, we suggest that the need for ICM services is determined by quantitative assessment (i.e., ICMSS) and clinical judgment. Conclusion ICMSS is a brief tool for mental health professionals that will be useful in routine clinical practice. We expect that ICMSS will be used as a measure that reflects the views of professionals from various disciplines in Japanese institutions.

Oxygen reduction and evolution reactions (ORR and OER, respectively) of perovskite-type La0.8Sr0.2CoO3 were characterized using two-dimensional model electrodes with different reaction planes (001), (110), and (111). Synthesized by pulsed laser deposition, these thin (30 nm) and flat (roughness < 1 nm) electrodes can reveal the reaction plane dependence of the ORR activity. From steady-state polarization measurements in KOH (aq.), the ORR activity was the highest on the (001) film during the first ORR/OER cycle, and it decreased significantly during the second cycle. In-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction clarified crystal structure changes in the bulk and surface regions of La0.8Sr0.2CoO3, and these changes are associated with forming oxygen defects during the initial electrochemical process. Furthermore, the La0.8Sr0.2CoO3 surface partially decomposed upon reacting with the aqueous solution, as clarified by hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. Therefore, the interfacial structures formed in the electrochemical reaction field is important for enhancing ORR and OER activities.

Sequential congruency effects are observed in interference tasks, in which reaction times (RTs) are shorter for congruent stimuli preceded by congruent (cC) than incongruent stimuli (iC), and RTs are longer for incongruent stimuli preceded by congruent (cI) than incongruent stimuli (iI). These effects are interpreted as resulting from incongruent stimuli triggering attentional control in the next trial, which reduces cognitive control. This study aimed to examine sequential congruency effects on event-related potential (ERP) components for Go- and Nogo-stimuli. We used the hybrid reverse Stroop Go/Nogo task. The stimuli were Kanji characters, “赤” (i.e., red) and “青” (i.e., blue) painted in congruent and incongruent colors. Participants responded to one of the two characters (i.e, the Go-stimulus) and stopped responding to the other character (i.e., the Nogo-stimulus). The results indicated that the Nogo-N1 was reduced by trials preceded by incongruent stimuli compared with congruent ones, suggesting that color processing was inhibited by attentional control; however, there was no reduction in the Go-N1. In addition, the Nogo-N2 amplitudes were larger for cI than iI and iC than cC. On the other hand, the Go-N2 was not modulated by sequential modulation effects, which was lower for incongruent stimuli than congruent stimuli. These results indicate that the Nogo-N2 is involved in cognitive control, whereas the Go-N2 is associated with selection processing. These findings suggest that the modulation of sequential congruency effects of N1 and N2 required the response inhibition task demand; however, Go-P3 and Nogo-P3 amplitudes were the largest for cI. Therefore, the time range of ERP components might be related to the susceptibility of an interaction effect between response inhibition task demand and sequential congruency effects.

We examined the association of mental health problems with preventive behavior and caregivers' anxiety in children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) and their caregivers during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Data were obtained from 227 pairs of children with NDD and their caregivers in a clinic in Fukui Prefecture, Japan, from October 1 to December 31, 2020. During this period, the activities of children and caregivers were not strongly restricted by the public system. Caregivers' anxiety about children's activities was positively associated with caregivers' and children's fears of COVID-19 and children's depressive symptoms. Children's preventive behavior was negatively associated with children's depressive symptoms. These findings suggested that caregivers' fear of COVID-19 stemmed from worry about the relationship between children's activity and COVID-19 infection, and children might have reflected caregivers' expressions of concern. In schools and clinics, practitioners educate children on how to engage in preventive behavior against COVID-19. Our results support the effectiveness of such practices in mitigating mental health problems in children with NDD.

The establishment of three-electrode cells for all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries is an important issue to clarify the electrochemical behavior of the battery components and solve problems for the practical applications. Here we prepared an all-solid-state three-electrode cell with a chemically-reduced Li4Ti5O12 reference electrode and investigated electrochemical properties of a LiCoO2 composite electrode in a Li-In|Li10GeP2S12|LiCoO2 cell. Plateau potentials in charge-discharge curves were coincident with reported values. Cell impedance measured with two-electrode configuration agreed well with the sum of the impedances of the positive and the negative electrodes measured with the reference electrode. These results show that chemically-reduced Li4Ti5O12 reference electrode was worked as a Li7Ti5O12|Li4Ti5O12 reference electrode and electrochemical properties of the LiCoO2 electrode and the Li-In electrode were separated. From the temperature and the state of charge dependences of LiCoO2 impedance, resistances related to interface or interphase and charge-transfer reaction were identified. These results show that all-solid-state cells with chemically-reduced Li4Ti5O12 reference electrodes are promising candidates for three-electrode cells for all-solid-state lithium-ion battery systems.

A combinatorial synthesis system consisting of co-sputtering multiple radio frequency (RF) cathodes was developed to investigate the presence of new amorphous solid electrolytes in a pseudo-ternary Li3PO4-Li4SiO4-LiAlO2 system. Oxynitride solid-electrolyte films were synthesized under an N2 atmosphere by reactive RF sputtering with cathodes made of different materials, such as Li3PO4, Li4SiO4, and LiAlO2 installed at different positions in the chamber. The formation of amorphous films with no grains and a continuous atomic distribution was confirmed using scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. In a single synthesis, we fabricated an oxynitride solid-electrolyte film, in which the composition range of the components was approximately one-eighth that in the corresponding pseudo-ternary system. The highest Li-ion conductivity of 3.1 × 10−6 S cm−1 was obtained for the LiPSiAlON film with a composition ratio of LiPON : LiSiON : LiAlON = 48.5 : 33.9 : 17.6. The different bonding states of O and N in the LiPSiAlON film doped with P, Si, and Al were examined using X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. The ionic conductivity was improved by the mixed anion effect. The combinatorial synthesis enables the efficient optimization of the chemical composition and facilitates the development of highly conductive amorphous solid electrolytes.

K2NiF4-type oxides are expected to be potential lithium-ion conductors because they have a structure similar to that of perovskites, which provide a reasonably flexible framework for accommodating defects such as charge carriers within the lattice. However, the K2NiF4-type structure as a framework for lithium conductors is scarcely reported. This article presents the preparation of Sr(La1−xLi3x)ScO4 with a K2NiF4 structure by a solid-state reaction at a high pressure of 2 GPa, and elucidates its lithium-ion-conducting properties. Sr(La1−xLi3x)ScO4 forms solid solutions in the x range of 0.05–0.20. Its orthorhombic lattice expands with lithium doping, indicating the incorporation of lithium ions as interstitial species in the structure. The highly doped samples exhibit high ionic conductivities (e.g., 4.66 × 10−6 S cm−1 at 250 °C for x = 0.15 and 4.29 × 10−2 S cm−1 at 375 °C for x = 0.2) with an activation energy of ∼100 kJ mol−1. The samples show an abnormal increase in the ionic conductivity at ∼300 °C, possibly due to the increase in the orthorhombicity of Sr(La1−xLi3x)ScO4. As the electronic conductivities of the developed oxide materials are a few orders of magnitude lower than their total conductivities, they can be used as solid electrolytes in all-solid-state lithium batteries. The study reveals that K2NiF4-type oxides are attractive candidates for developing novel lithium-ion conductors.

Direct observation of the lithiation and de-lithiation in lithium batteries on the component and microstructural scale is still difficult. This work presents recent advances in MeV ion-beam analysis, enabling quantitative contact-free analysis of the spatially-resolved lithium content and state-of-charge (SoC) in all-solid-state lithium batteries via 3 MeV proton-based characteristic x-ray and gamma-ray emission analysis. The analysis is demonstrated on cross-sections of ceramic and polymer all-solid-state cells with LLZO and MEEP/LIBOB solid electrolytes. Different SoC are measured ex-situ and one polymer-based operando cell is charged at 333 K during analysis. The data unambiguously show the migration of lithium upon charging. Quantitative lithium concentrations are obtained by taking the physical and material aspects of the mixed cathodes into account. This quantitative lithium determination as a function of SoC gives insight into irreversible degradation phenomena of all-solid-state batteries during the first cycles and locations of immobile lithium. The determined SoC matches the electrochemical characterization within uncertainties. The presented analysis method thus opens up a completely new access to the state-of-charge of battery cells not depending on electrochemical measurements. Automated beam scanning and data-analysis algorithms enable a 2D quantitative Li and SoC mapping on the µm-scale, not accessible with other methods.

Perovskite-type lithium ionic conductors were explored in the (LixLa1−x/3)ScO3 system following their syntheses via a high-pressure solid-state reaction. Phase identification indicated that a solid solution with a perovskite-type structure was formed in the range 0 ≤ x < 0.6. When x = 0.45, (Li0.45La0.85)ScO3 exhibited the highest ionic conductivity and a low activation energy. Increasing the loading of lithium as an ionic diffusion carrier expanded the unit cell volume and contributed to the higher ionic conductivity and lower activation energy. Cations with higher oxidation numbers were introduced into the A/B sites to improve the ionic conductivity. Ce4+ and Zr4+ or Nb5+ dopants partially substituted the A-site (La/Li) and B-site Sc, respectively. Although B-site doping produced a lower ionic conductivity, A-site Ce4+ doping improved the conductive properties. A perovskite-type single phase was obtained for (Li0.45La0.78Ce0.05)ScO3 upon Ce4+ doping, providing a higher ionic conductivity than (Li0.45La0.85)ScO3. Compositional analysis and crystal-structure refinement of (Li0.45La0.85)ScO3 and (Li0.45La0.78Ce0.05)ScO3 revealed increased lithium contents and expansion of the unit cell upon Ce4+ co-doping. The highest ionic conductivity of 1.1 × 10−3 S cm−1 at 623 K was confirmed for (Li0.4Ce0.15La0.67)ScO3, which is more than one order of magnitude higher than that of the (LixLa1−x/3)ScO3 system.

This study investigated the applicability of the Movement Assessment Battery for Children – Second Edition (MABC-2) for 3- to 6-year-old Japanese children, particularly addressing its internal consistency and factorial validity. The MABC-2 test set for 3- to 6-year-old children was administered to 252 children. Differences between Japanese children and those of the original normative sample (i.e. United Kingdom children) were investigated along with sex differences. The Japanese children aged 3–6 years were found to have higher Manual Dexterity and Balance component scores than children of the normative sample. Girls scored higher than boys on the Balance component. Results of several analyses showed good internal consistency of the MABC-2. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that a theoretical three-component model of the MABC-2 was not fitted to Japanese children aged 3–6 years. Instead, a new three-component model was postulated and discussed. The new three-component model of the MABC-2, with Manual Dexterity, Static Balance and Ball Skills, and Dynamic Balance, has high factorial validity in Japanese children aged 3–6 years.

In the present study, ICP-MS with a new hybrid simultaneous preconcentration combining solid phase extraction using chelating resin and iron hydroxide coprecipitation in one batch at a single pH adjustment (pH 6.0) were developed for multielement determination of trace metal ions in seawater. In multielement determination, the present method makes it possible to determine Cr(III), As(V), Se (IV), and other 14 trace metal elements (Ti, V, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Zr, Ge, Cd, Sb, Sn, W, Pb, and U) in seawater. Moreover, for speciation analyses of Cr, As, and Se, the pH dependence on recovery for the different chemical forms of Cr, As, and Se was investigated. In speciation analyses, Cr, As, and Se were determined as the total of Cr (III) and a part of Cr (VI), total of As (III) and As (V), and Se(IV), respectively. Determination of total of Se and Cr(VI) remains as future task to improve. Nevertheless, the present method would have possibility to develop as the analytical method to determine comprehensively most metal elements in all standard and guideline values in quality standard in environmental water in Japan, that is, most toxic metal elements in environmental water.

Lithium superionic conductors with the Li10GeP2S12 (LGPS)-type structure are promising materials for use as solid electrolytes in next-generation lithium batteries. A novel member of the LGPS family, Li9.42Si1.02P2.1S9.96O2.04, and its solid solutions were synthesised by quenching from 1273 K in the Li2S–P2S5–SiO2 pseudoternary system. The material exhibited an ionic conductivity as high as 3.2×10−4 S cm−1 at 298 K, as well as the high electrochemical stability to lithium metal, which was improved by the introduction of oxygen into the LGPS-type structure. An all-solid-state cell with a lithium metal anode and Li9.42Si1.02P2.1S9.96O2.04 as the separator showed excellent performance with a high coulomb efficiency of 100%. Thus, oxygen doping is an effective way of improving the electrochemical stability of LGPS-type structure.

We developed a parenting resilience elements questionnaire (PREQ) measuring the degree to which mothers possess elements that aid in adapting to challenges and difficulties related to children with developmental disorders (DD). A total of 424 parents of children with DD were recruited from five medical institutes. Psychometric properties of PREQ were evaluated using data of 363 mothers of children with DD. Furthermore, multiple regression analysis was performed, predicting depressive symptoms and parenting behavior with PREQ subscales, a general health questionnaire, and the total difficulties score of a strength and difficulties questionnaire. Factor analysis revealed three reliable factors: "knowledge of the child's characteristics," "perceived social supports," and "positive perceptions of parenting." Moreover, multiple regression analysis showed that "knowledge of the child's characteristics" was associated with parenting behavior, whereas "perceived social supports" predicted depressive symptoms; "positive perceptions of parenting" influenced both parenting behavior and depressive symptoms. These findings indicated that the PREQ may be used as a scale measuring resiliency in mothers of children with DD and is useful for evaluating their parenting ability in clinical interventions.

Mechanical properties of Li10.35Ge1.35P1.65S12 (LGPS) solid electrolytes with different grain sizes were investigated via indentation tests. Hand-milled LGPS (HM LGPS, d50: 1.32 μm) and wet-milled LGPS (WM LGPS, d50: 0.46 μm) powders were uniaxially pressed to obtain pellet samples. The HM LGPS and WM LGPS pellets had a similar bulk density of 1.63 g cm-3. At the initial loading/unloading, the WM LPGS pellet showed a large deformation owing to a decrease in cavities compared with the HM LGPS. In the subsequent cycles, both pellets exhibited elastic deformation behavior in the pressure range up to 20 N. The elastic modulus and relative residual depth of HM LGPS and WM LGPS were 21.7 GPa and 15.0 GPa and 0.75 and 0.71, respectively. This result revealed that WM LGPS is more elastically deformable and less plastically deformable than HM LGPS, which could be associated with the grain boundary strengthening interpreted by the Hall-Petch relation. Based on these mechanical properties, the superior cycle stability at the In-Li electrode/WM LGPS electrolyte interface during charging/discharging was discussed. Sign language recognition is vital for enhancing communication accessibility among the Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. In Japan, approximately 360,000 individualswith hearing and speech disabilities rely on Japanese Sign Language (JSL) for communication. However, existing JSL recognition systems have faced significant performance limitations due to inherent complexities. In response to these challenges, we present a novel JSL recognition system that employs a strategic fusion approach, combining joint skeleton-based handcrafted features and pixel-based deep learning features. Our system incorporates two distinct streams: the first stream extracts crucial handcrafted features, emphasizing the capture of hand and body movements within JSL gestures. Simultaneously, a deep learning-based transfer learning stream captures hierarchical representations of JSL gestures in the second stream. Then, we concatenated the critical information of the first stream and the hierarchy of the second stream features to produce the multiple levels of the fusion features, aiming to create a comprehensive representation of the JSL gestures. After reducing the dimensionality of the feature, a feature selection approach and a kernel-based support vector machine (SVM) were used for the classification. To assess the effectiveness of our approach, we conducted extensive experiments on our Lab JSL dataset and a publicly available Arabic sign language (ArSL) dataset. Our results unequivocally demonstrate that our fusion approach significantly enhances JSL recognition accuracy and robustness compared to individual feature sets or traditional recognition methods.
